IPhone 4 & iPod Touch can connect to Time Capsule, but not Internet

My family and I have an iPhone 4, iPhone 3G & iPod Touch. Our WiFi comes from a Time Capsule. My Macbook Pro can connect to the WiFi and get online, but the iPod & iPhones can only connect to the Wifi, not actually get online.
We some issues with our ISP last week, which took some time and some messing with the settings on Time Capsule to resolve. At one point, Airport Utility asked me if I'd like to switch to bridge mode...I'm not sure if that ever happened or not, to be honest, and don't know how to see if I'm in bridge mode or not (or even what that means, really).
With my iPhone 4, I can successfully connect to the wireless network, but the icon in the top left of the screen stays on 3G (unless my service drops in my house, in which case it shows the WiFi icon but won't let me connect via Safari or any other apps).
With the iPhone 3G, it does connect, but doesn't ever show the WiFi icon.
With the iPod, it says it connects, but doesn't ever show the WiFi icon. I get the error "Safari cannot open the page. The error was: Operation coudl not be completed. Invalid argument."
Does anyone have any idea what I could do to resolve this?

I fixed this on my own. How did I do it?
1. Reset Time Capsule to factory settings (via Airport Utility)
2. Renamed my WiFi network
3. Restarted my router
Everything's fixed. I've seen this problem all over the Web but no solutions, so hopefully this will help someone.

  • Windows 7 connects to Time Capsule but not internet

I have a macbook pro and two windows vista pcs that connect and surf the internet fine with Time Capsule, however, for two windows 7 laptops, they detect the network and can connect to the network, but cannot connect to the internet.
I'm not sure what the problem is, and diagnosing/repairing the network does not help.
So currently the network looks like this with the Windows 7 laptops:
W7 Laptop --- Time Capsule Network -x- Internet

I too have this problem, I see that there is a solution solved notice at the top of the page, but I do not see the solution.

    - Reset the iPOd. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router

  • Older Macbook connects to Time Capsule, but not really

Problem: My wife's Macbook (Intel Core Duo) is able to connect to my new Time Capsule, but it quickly loses its connection. It doesn't really disconnect though - it still says that it is connected with full reception, but there is no internet, or time machine, and I can't even ping the router.
The router logs show that she is still connected though, because they don't say "Disassociated with station" until she turns airport off.
There are definitely a lot of wireless networks around here, but I don't think interference is the issue, since many other computers are working fine. Her computer can connect to some of the other routers just fine. She could also connect to my old router just fine.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
When that happens, if you open the Network panel of System Preferences, select the AirPort connection item on the left, click the "Advanced" button, then the "TCP/IP" tab, do you see reasonable values for the several fields?
It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until it works again:
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    3) In the same panel as (2), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    4) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
    5) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( not <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
They may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try. Before you try these, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.

  • Vista connects to Time Capsule but not to the internet.

Hi. Please help, I am pulling my hair out. I have just bought a Time Capsule to use as a base station to connect my laptops, PS3, iPhone etc to the internet. When I set up my Time Capsule, I got my Macbook Pro, my PS3 and my iPhone connected in about 15 minutes flat. But I have now been trying to get my wife's Sony Vaio laptop (about one year old) connected for about 3 hours. It can see the network no problem, it connects, but it only ever connects locally and will not let the Windows machine connect to the internet. When I select which network to join, it correctly identifies my network with the correct name, but once it is connected it only sees an "unidentified network".
I have looked through the forums and made sure that the NETbios is started and the security encryption matches.
If I go to the "Summery" page in my Airport Utility on my Macbook, it can see the Windows laptop.
The more I try the more I want to throw the windows machine out of the window and get my wife a mac, but she informs me that she is 28 and she is a PC! Therefore, I need to fix this...............please help.

From the Vaio's Windows Desktop, start a Command Window session. (ref: Start > Start Search > enter cmd, and then, press Enter). At the command prompt, type-in ipconfig /all, and then, press Enter.
You may have several network components listed. For example, entries for both the Ethernet and Wireless connections. We want to concentrate on the wireless adapter settings.
Note the values of the following:
o IPv4 Address - This should be an IP address in the same range as that being provided to the other network clients. By default, the AirPort uses the 10.0.1.n range ... so an address like 10.0.1.10 would be appropriate.
o DHCP Enabled - This should be "Yes."
o Default Gateway - This should be the IP address of the LAN-side of your AirPort. By default, it would be 10.0.1.1.
o DHCP Server - This should be the same as the Default Gateway value.
o DNS Servers - These should be your ISP's DNS servers IP addresses.
Again, compare these values with the other computers that are successfully access the Internet. Except for the IPv4 value, all others should be the same.

  • My iPod Touch 4G connects to access point, but not the internet.

I'm stuck for ideas, so any help is appreciated! I've gone through the troubleshooting guide, and none of that helped. I've reset my network settings, forgetting the specific network, resetting the router, resetting the iPod, restoring it to factory settings, upgrading to the latest firmware, and nothing has worked.
Sometimes, if I forget the network and reset my iPod, it may (but not always) work for that session. Whenever I try again, I have to repeat this process and HOPE it works.
I can't try on another network because that's not available to me and won't be for a while.
This happened really randomly. Nothing changed, and it's driving me mad. Any help is appreciated a lot!

Does it connect to the internet with other networks?
    - If so that indicates a problem with your router. Likely time for a new router.
    - If not that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I can connect to my iPhone hot spot with no problems but I have no Internet
Please help, cellular data is on, also my computer gets IP address subnet and gateway,

I'd first be sure the Hot Spot service is provisioned correctly with your cell provider.  I'd then follow the restart/reset/restore troubleshooting path.

I don't have a DSL or cable modem to access the Internet ... just a mobile WiFi (there is no cable available at our house and the mobile WiFi is our only option). How do I connect my Time Capsule to the Internet via the mobile WiFi?

    LOL!!
I am in Australia and the ISP... I think both the main ones would fit your description to a T.. big T in particular.
Your router is really unsuitable.. if it is only wireless and no ethernet.. just buy an ethernet one.
Do a search on ebay.. 3g router.
But you can get the TC to join a wireless network.
It is a non-standard setup that Apple will not support.. the option is hidden.
If you are on Lion download the 5.6 utility. Go to the wireless set up page and hold down the option key whilst selecting wireless mode.. a new option, join will appear. You can then put in the ssid and passkey of the 3g router.
But please note the end result of this setup..
very slow speed. The TC is now a second wireless hop from your clients.. this will halve the speed.
In this mode the ethernet are deactived.. for reasons only Apple know, they decided you should not use ethernet when doing this.
