Iphone 4 is not recognized as a device by itunes on mac

itunes does not recognize my iphone 4 as a device. I’ve seen this problem resolved for pc users, but I have a mac book. When I have new photos, the mac recognizes the camera. Without new photos, the mac does not recognize when I plug in the phone at all. Any help is appreciated.

Try downloading iTunes and re-install it over the existing. No need to delete iTunes first.

Unable to get new iphone 5c recognized as a device in itunes for syncing purposes. Backup from old phone made yesterday and now would like to sync new phone from that backup.  Any advice appreciated.

Even if I enable the new phone to backup automatically with the cloud? Wouldn't that keep everything up to date? And if I use the software, couldn't I choose to copy just the music & messages to I tunes, and not select anything else to keep the data from the new phone intact? Sorry, this is confusing. I like these products, but Apple really fails on portability. I had this same issue with Ipod years ago, and it ****** me off then too. They sold me (the last time I lost everything) on the icloud, telling me it backed EVERYTHING up. I'm a bit upset at store personnel right now to say the least.
Sorry I was under the impression you still wanted to restore from your old phone backup.
yes if you enable backup on your new phone everything will be up to date.
Yes you can use the software to move music and message to your computer - you would need to add the music back to your iTunes media library.
I provided a link with what is backup to icloud.  YOur purchased item is always tied to your apple id.

  • IPhone 4s not recognized by MacBook Pro nor iTunes

I am currently running iOS 6.0.1 on my iPhone 4s and OS X 10.9.4 on my MacBook Pro Retina Late 2012. I recently reformatted my computer by means of a bootable OSX installer and I did a completely clean install. For some reason, my iPhone is able to charge, but not recognized by my computer nor iTunes at all. Nothing comes up.
I have followed the directions in the following:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591?viewlocale=en_US
    and
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24169239#24169239#24169239
Neither solution seems to be working. I have done the following:
    reinstalled my iTunes multiple times
reset my networking on my iPhone a few times
    restarted my computer
    updated all my software
checked to make sure USB cables work
    tried multiple iPhone charging cables
I'd greatly appreciate some guidance in regards to this. Thanks!

When you say a bootable OS X installer where did you get the installer?  Is it one you created yourself?
You might want to try restarting the MacBook Air holding the Command and R keys.  From Utilities on the menu bar, choose Install Mac OS X.  That will reinstall using an installer from Apple.  Install and see if that changes the behavior.
I did the following from this website:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2056561/how-to-make-a-bootable-mavericks-install -drive.html
    Option 1: Use createinstallmedia
Hidden inside the Mavericks installer is a Unix program calledcreateinstallmedia, provided by Apple for creating a bootable Mavericks installer. If you’re comfortable using Terminal, it’s a relatively simple tool to use. The program assumes your account has administrator privileges.
Note: This method does not work in Snow Leopard. It works only in Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks. (The resulting installer drive will let you install Mavericks over Snow Leopard, but you can’t create the installer drive while booted into Snow Leopard.) If you need to create a Mavericks install drive while booted into Snow Leopard, you should use the Disk Utility instructions, below.
Download the Mavericks installer from the Mac App Store and make sure it’s in your main Applications folder. (This means that if you followed my advice to move the installer out of your Applications folder, you’ll have to move it back, at least temporarily. The Terminal command I’m using here assumes the installer is in its default location.)
Connect to your Mac a properly formatted 8GB (or larger) drive. Rename the drive to Untitled. (The Terminal command used here assumes the drive is named Untitled.)
    Select the text of this Terminal command and copy it:sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
    Launch Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities).
Paste the copied command into Terminal and press Return. Warning: This step will erase the destination drive or partition, so make sure it doesn’t contain any valuable data.
Enter your admin-level account password when prompted.
The Terminal window displays the progress of the process, in a very Terminal sort of way, by displaying a textual representation of a progress bar: Erasing Disk: 0%... 10%...20%... and so on. The program then tells you it’s copying the installer files, making the disk bootable, and copying boot files. Wait until you see the text Copy Complete. Done. (see the screenshot below), which could take as long as 20 or 30 minutes, depending on how fast your Mac can copy data to your destination drive.
You now have a bootable Mavericks-install drive.

  • My Nano 5th gen. is not recognized as a device in ITunes so I can't sync Nano and Itunes.  Previously was able to do so.  What can I do?

Please advise why my Nano 5th g is suddenly not recognized in Itunes as a Device as was previously.  I cannot sync Nano with ITunes.  What do I need to do?

  • HT4528 iphone 5 not recognized as portable device in Windows 7 ultimate (64)

My iPhone 5 refuses to show up under my computer as a portable device, but syncs perfectly with itunes 11.0.1.12.  Oddly, my wife's iPhone shows up on her Dell XPS 9100 which is also running W7U x64.  I have a newer version of the same PC (the only real major difference being an intel 990x hexacore processor in mine vs the wife's quadcore 930 but I can't imagine why that would make any difference).  I thought that maybe the apple mobile device driver needed to be updated but that's not it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but no luck.  I find it extremely odd that my iPod touch 5 gen is actually showing up as it should. Since my iPhone is now my primary everyday camera for quick snapshots (carrying my SLR for other than specialty photos is far too cumbersome), I need to be able to transfer my pictures.  I could try the wife's computer but would prefer to save my pics on my computer and not have to transfer from hers to save time.  Anyone have any ideas?

I FIGURED IT OUT. THANK FREAKING GOD!
    This is what I did:
I went to control panel and unistalled iTunes completely, then I installed 10.6.3
http://support.apple.com/downloads/#itunes which you can find here
It came up with an error saying that my library had beed used with a more updated verision, basically had to upgrade. I installed iTunes 10.7
After it had installed and iTunes was running I hooked up both my iPhone and my flash drive, I have more than 1 usb port I figure most computers do now, and by the time and date in the bottom right corner a small icon came up showing that I had devices hooked up. It showed both my iPhone (but did not know what it was) and my flash drive. If you right click on the iPhone it has the option to Troubleshoot it. I did it and my iPhone 5 now FINALLY SYNCS!
    I'm sooo happy now.

  • HT201302 iphone is not recognized as an accessible device by your windows 7 or 8 pc?

Despite the fact that itunes has no problems accessing the iphone nor does a 3rd party paid app like "iExplorer", the iphone is not recognized as a device by Windows (7 and 8). The support bulletin referenced is inadequate.

    Hi James,
I'll give you steps so it'll be easy to read.
I suggest having your phone plugged into a working USB during this process.
      1. Open up your Device Manager (run/use command line devmgmt.msc or look for it by sliding open your charm bar located on the right of your computer screen, selecting PC Info, and then on the left hand side of your PC Info window, click "Device Manager"
    2. Once you are in your device manager, look at the above tab (It should say File, Action, View, and Help) and Click View. Click "Show Hidden Devices"
    3. Look for "Portable Devices", and click it. There should be something similar or exact to "Apple iPhone".
    4. Right click it, and select "Update Driver Software..."
    5. Click "Browse my computer for driver software"
    6. Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
    7. Click "Show All Drivers", then click "Next"
    8. Click "Have Disk"
    9. Type in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
    10. Click "Browse", there should be a file that says "usbaapl64" RIGHT click it and click "Install"
    11. From there it should install. Open iTunes to make sure.
Please let me know if my directions are not clear enough, it took me some time to figure out what I was doing myself. I wish you the best!

  • IPhone 4s won't sync to iMac, isn't recognized as a device in iTunes or iPhoto.

my iPhone 4s is not recognized as a device in iTunes or on my iMac. Doesn't show up in Wifi cloud sync as a device either. It's charging now via my iMac so the USB cord is good. I am on iTunes v.11.1.1 and Mac OS X v. 10.8.5. All other SW updates complete on iPhone and iMac. Also, when connected to iMac, iPhoto doesn't pop up asking to import the photos, which I need to do because I have so many on my iPhone and my memory is almost all used up.
Also, I think the iPhone is the issue NOT needing to uninstall and reinstall iTunes because of the memory issue and I have had the issue of the sound not working when playing back video and the sound has had weird issues which I've read about and think about a month or 2 ago I triggered where ther is a shut off safety precaution for when moisture might be in the iphone after I ran with it one night and wondering if the connector where the USB is plugged in is the problem. However, that wouldn't explain why it doesn't show up as a device in my iTunes when used as WiFi and not via a USB cable right?
I am afraid if I go back into the Apple store even though this one was replaced in March they will charge me to replace it again and then the next time I can upgrade to get an iPhone 5 will be extended (again).
Next I'll go checkon the support and whether I bought the extended warranty. Since this is the 1st replacement from my first iPhone 4s, would a 2nd one keep the same Apple warranty on the device or is it the same length?
I cannot afford to replace it now if they will change me for it, but I also but wish they'd allow me upgrade since I was due to be upgraded in Oct. 2013 and now it's not until March of 2014! So, if i have to replace it with this a 2nd time, would my upgrade be pushed to OCTOBER of 2014? I don't recall their terms since I haven't had to replace mine so many times before, so haven't paid attention.
Going to research T's and C's of Apple Care/warranty and extended Apple care now.

Another thank you here ... I was ready to go to the dark side!!

  • IPhone 5 not recognized by iTunes 12

    Hello all,
I have an iPhone 5, I'm running iTunes 12.0.1.26 and Yosemite (OS X 10.10.1). Over the last few days, I've noticed that my iPhone is not recognized by iTunes or even Yosemite itself. I have already tried everything in this doc: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X - Apple Support, to no avail. I've been combing the communities and Google to no avail. Does this mean I need to try a manual restore on the phone? Any other solutions?
    Thanks

I was able to uninstall and reinstrall iTunes, but my Iphone does not appear in iTunes, nor in Windows Explorer on my Windows 7 desktop. But it does appear in both iTunes and Windows Explorer on my laptop which runs Windows 8... How can I get it reconginzed on my desktop?

  • Iphone 6 not recognized in windows

iphone 6 not recognized in windows but it's recognized in Itunes. I uninstalled and reinstall Itunes but it's still not working. I have photos in my iphone. Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is updated. Under Device Manager and Portable Devices, I can't find Apple iPhone. Please advise.

then uninstall bonjour and maybe use regedit to search and delete all registry keys
and you can always connect it to another computer with a non messed up apple software and copy out the photos without having to pair or sync or anything with the computer
