IPhone 4 is not recognized by iTunes 10.1.2

I am running Windows 7 on my PC. My iPhone 4 was syncing perfectly fine until I updated to 10.1.2. Since the update none of my Apple products (iPad, iPhone 3g, iPhone 4) have been recognized by iTunes. This rules out the device as I highly doubt that all three devices would experience the exact same hardware issue. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes but to no avail. I have also tried restarting the Apple Mobile Device Service, and that didn't work either. I am lost as to what else to try as I have not been able to sync my devices since the end of January. Any other suggestions?

Here's Apple's support document on this subject, note in the last part that iTunes must be uninstalled & then reinstalled in a certain order:

Thanks for the response. There is no cloud icon next to them. All of the songs play on the phone still and no song was purchased through iTunes. I added them manually and tried to remove them manually. According to my iTunes they've been removed but they are still on my phone and working.

Did you try recovery mode?  Hold down the home button as you connect it to iTunes.  iTunes should pop up a window that says "iTunes has detected a device in recovery mode" and give you the option to restore.

I just bought a Macbook Air.  I previously owned a Macbook Pro.  I am attempting to transfer all of my photos and music to my new Air.  Photos were no problem, music was a breeze using Home Sharing.  However, my iphone 5s is not recognized by itunes on my new Air.  Any suggestions?

    Howdy AndieKanaras,
It sounds like your iPhone is being recognized everywhere but in iTunes. I would use the troubleshooting for that issue in the following article, named:

  • My iPhone 5 is not recognized by iTunes

My iPhone 5 is not recognized by iTunes. My iPhone is iOS 7.0.4 and my iTunes is 11.1.4. When i connect my iPhone to the computer, all that happens is the file view opens and shows how mush usage i have left on my phone. And when i try to connect it to iTunes, it does not recognize my phone at all. When i used to plug my phone in, iTunes would automatically pop up and i was able to download music or whatever to with iTunes.

    Hey there Jordan_z1a,
It sounds like you are unable to sync your phone to iTunes on your Windows 7 PC and you feel you have isolated the issue to the Apple Mobile Device Support driver is not installed. Use this section of the following article to verify whether or not its installed, and for instructions on how to install it if needed:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

    3. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
iOS devices require Apple Mobile Device Support, which should be automatically installed with iTunes. To verify whether it is installed, follow the steps appropriate for your Windows operating system below.
Windows XP: Click Start and choose Control Panel. Open the "Add or Remove Programs" control panel and verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is visible in the list of currently installed programs.
Windows Vista and Windows 7: Click Start and choose Control Panel. Click "Uninstall a program" (or if using Windows Vista's Classic View of the Control Panel, click "Programs and Features"). Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is visible in the list of currently installed programs.
Windows 8: Move the cursor to the upper right corner, click the magnifying glass, type Control Panel, and press Return. Click "Uninstall a program". Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is visible in the list of currently installed programs.
If Apple Mobile Device Support is not listed, remove iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Application Support, and then reinstall iTunes. Follow the steps appropriate for your Windows operating system below:
    Reinstall iTunes for Windows XP
Reinstall iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
If after reinstalling iTunes Apple Mobile Device Support is still not installed, follow steps in Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows.
If this does not resolve the issue, try starting from the top of the article and working your way down as needed.

  • My iphone 5s is not recognized by Itunes so I cannot sync with my windows 8.1 . my ipod touch will but not my Iphone. do you have a solution?

My IPhone 5S is not recognized on my Itunes so I cannot transfer music from my library to my phone. I use window 8.1 OS. My ipod touch is recognized so the problem is limited to my IPhone 5S. I have tried the solutions offered by Apple support What can I do?

I had a similar problem with my iPhone and fixed it. You might as well give this a try even if your iPod works. This is what I did. (Follow these steps):
    1. Make sure your phone is not connected/plugged to your computer then continue on step 2.
(For some reason, apparently iTunes also get installed to iPhone's which makes it sort of faulty.)
    2. By going to your computer's Control Panel - Uninstall itunes. To completely uninstall itunes you need to uninstall 5 programs in this very sequence. (You have to make sure you follow this in order.)
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    3. Then simply re-install the latest iTunes. Go tohttp://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ , on the left side of that page you'll see a blue botton that say's "Download Now". Press that button and it should allow you to make sure that you've downloaded the latest iTunes.
    4. Once you've reinstalled it go ahead and start iTunes and connect/plug your iPhone to your computer. iTunes should now be able to recognise your iPhone.
    5. If it still does not work try unplugging your Iphone again, restart your computer and connect your Iphone once more. See it your computer recognises your device.
Steps 1-4 worked out real well for me so I hope it does for you too. If still a no no why not try and contact apple themselves they should be able to give help.
Got all this info with an Apple person. Cheers.

Answering my own question this time since posting, found similar query and fixed it.
Went to control panel in Windows 7, printers and devices, down at the bottom shows the device
right clicked and chose troubleshoot. Turned out that the device drivers had not installed and the troubleshooter did
that automatically. Problem solved. Then the device showed up in itunes.

  • My new Iphone 4s is not recognized by itunes

I have two other iphone 4s that are 16g and they both have the latest OS and show up in itunes as a device. Using the same connector, the new 4S 64g that I just received ( bought on ebay) is not recognized by itunes. Wi fi and phone work ok, charger, etc. I've restarted the phone, updated the OS,  rebooted the computer, checked online for advise but nothing has helped. Thinking there may be something wrong with the thing which is a drag because I bought it for the extra capacity to store music from itunes.
    Any suggestions?

  • IPhone 5 is not recognized in iTunes or on my computer

I have an iPhone 5 and ever since the new iTunes update my iPhone 5 isn't recognized by my computer not will it come up in iTunes at all. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, restarted my iPhone 5 and it still won't come up on my computer at all when I connect it. All my USB ports are working fine. What can I do to fix this problem? I don't want to restore my phone to factory settings because I will lose everything that will not back up to iCloud since I can't get it connected to the computer to back it up manually.

If you didn't follow this guide when you uninstalled iTunes, you may want to try again following this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.  It's important to uninstall iTunes and all of its components, and to do so in the specified order, in order to be successful.  There are other troubleshooting steps in this article: iPhone not recognized in iTunes for Windows.
