IPhone 4 isn't visible in Devices in iTunes before or after Restore.
I did a full Restore and I can see that it is communicating with iCloud but is not listed under Devices in iTunes. When I plug it into a USB cable, it does not charge but I know the cable works because it will charge when plugged into an A/C outlet.
I can't help, but I just noticed several people having the same problem (that's why I'm looking). Wonder if it's something with the new version of iTunes. I have a 3GS, but I've seen people posting this problem with 4 and 3GS. I found something at apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/#section_5 -- did everything it said to, but no help. Good luck!

I want to set up my iphone to sync with my macbook but when I plug it in via USB my iphone doesn't show up under devices in itunes even though it is plugged in correctly and is charging through my computer. How do I get it to show up? I've tried restarting my computer.

Yes. It will only erase the phone, not any data or backups from icloud.com. If you think it was stolen, you might want to read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5668.

i have deleted all contacts in icloud but still have them on my iphone (which is backed up as well to iTunes) how can i restore the iphone data to the iCloud so it will resend it to my mac book and iPad? thanks royThere's a menu choice (I think under "Files") that lets you sync purchased items on a device back to itunes. Look for that.
iCloud does not store music. If you want to do that you'd have to subscribe to itunes Match, but to get music to the match servers, you need the music in the itunes library on your computer. -

When you restore from an itunes backup it doesnt backup music or ring tones. resync from the computer that has the music. If you bought all the songs from iTunes, you can always redownload them but ringtones are a one-time download. Follow the article to redownload them. For the ringtones you can contact Apple to ask for a redownload of them

iPhone 4S 32 GB starts aprox every 5 minutes by themself after restoring/updating iOS 6.1.3 from support mode.

I took it back to the Apple store 2 days ago and they gave me a new one, but they told me not to restore it from backup cos if something (an app) is corrupted it will happen again. The only thing they could keep was my contacts cos they did something there that allowed them to transfer them to the new phone. I went home, and downloaded only ONE app (facebook), and guess what - THE PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURING ON THE BRAND NEW PHONE! It is driving me insane as I cant get through the day without my phone.

IPhone only shows up as a device in iTunes. Not in iPhoto, Image Capture, or anything else.
Right now, only iTunes sees my iPhone connnected to it. iPhoto doesn't see it, and neither does Image Capture or Xcode. I can sync with iTunes just fine, but I can't get transfer photos from my phone to my MacMini.

Yes you can use the software to move music and message to your computer - you would need to add the music back to your iTunes media library.

First off, they all need to be registered to the same AppleID. Same one you should log into when you start up iTunes. When you back up in there, preferably storing locally on the computer and not the iCloud, each device creates its own backup file (only one, by default, but that can be changed). Look in iTunes / Preferences / Devices (hover the cursor over each entry for more info).
So yes, you can back up more than one device onto an iTunes setup. When you plug the brand new iPhone for the first time, iTunes will recognize the fact and offer to Restore from a backup, giving you a list to pick from. Which leads us to an issue: you can only restore from a single backup, iTunes has no means of merging two backups into one.
Even if you manually force a Restore, the phone will be wiped before the backup is applied. Hence, no merging occurs.
Edit: If you want to keep more than a single backup of a phone in iTune's backup library, right-click (or control-click) on any backup in Preferences / Devices. Choose Archive from the popup menu and name the result appropriately. Next time you back up that device, a new file will be created, with the default name. -
Update iTunes before or after updating iPhone?
I can't seem to find this answered anywhere on Apple's site.
I'm on iTunes 7.5. When I plug in my phone and check for updates it says 1.1.3 is available for download.
Is it safe to run the update from 7.5 or should I install 7.6 first and then mount the iPhone?
Presumably 7.6 just adds the movie rental capability? Can I do without it altogether and still have 1.1.3?
tbh I may wait on 1.1.3 if there's a problem with order of sms messages, but the new features look worthwhile, especially if some bugs in Google maps have been fixed.

The update supposedly requires at least iTunes 7.5 or above however I used iTunes 7.4.2 and everything worked fine.
If you decide to update iTunes to 7.6 I recommend you update your QuickTime first to 7.4 then iTunes. As always repair permissions both before and after the install if you are on the Mac OS. -
Since changing to icloud, my iphone is no longer recognised in itunes and does not show as a device nor can I sync it to my Macbook.

Mac OS X v10.6.8 or earlier only: Reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service.

i tried to upgrade my iphone 4 to ios5 yesterday in the installation process my iphone stopped process and the actuall phone itself has frozen what is showing is the music note icon over a CD disc icon with an arrow pointing upwards and a picture of the usb cable small end . i have gone back into itunes on the left side and nothing comes up for list of devices to restore it or reset it back to prior upgrade attempt. i cant even locate the serial number under edit preferences and devices.. however it shows that all my music was imported and synced .. how do i recover the i phone so i can go back to using it.

greatly appreciatedIf you've been using your phone as recommended in the User Guide, you've synched your contacts with a cloud service like Google, MobileMe or iCloud, or with a program on your computer like Address Book or Outlook.
Your contacts should still be safe in those programs and ready for resynching.
If, on the other hand, you've relied only on the iPhone to maintain your contacts, then you have just learned a valuable lesson, and this is why is is NOT recommended by Apple.
Likewise, it's recommended that photos get uploaded from your phone to your computer for safe keeping. Did you do this?
