IPhone 4 issue (Slightly different to others?
Ok people, just really seeing if anyone else is having the same issue.
Got an iPhone 4, now running 4.0.1, had an i4 since launch, I cannot for the life of me get 3G to work in my house.
iPhone 4 is showing as having 4 bars (with 4.0.1) and 3G symbol is displayed, when trying to connect to a website using safari i get the error "Cannot Open Page Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding." Applications also are unable to get a data connection.
If I make a call, go to home screen and try (at this point, 4 bars are also displayed + 3G) my data connection works fine, I can browse the internet and running the speed test application seems to give me 3G speeds or around 1Mbps.
Now. still on the i4, If i turn 3G off, data access works. If i take my phone into work, 20 odd miles away 3G is fine.
So, to rule out the phone, apple have sent me another unit built in week 28 - same issue. (new phone, not restored) have also checked APN - idata.o2.co.uk, tried resetting network settings..
If i use my mico-sim adapter and place my sim into my 'old' 3GS, running stock 4.0.1 3G runs fine..
i Have turned every single electrical device off in the house to rule our interference... still no joy.
Extremely frustrating!... Just wondering if anyone else has seen anything similar?
When i got mine i noticed that i wasnt connecting to the 3g network (even edge doesnt work) did all the recommended steps including airport and resets and even went to AT&T and replaced my sim card. Nothing. called support, they couldn't do anything so they replaced my phone. Just got my phone a few hours ago and I'm having the same problem still. and yes, there is coverage in my area, my friend who was helping me had great 3g speeds on his 3gS phone right next to mine.

The problem that people are describing I can replicate on my iPhone 4. I thought I would test with another phone and see if the death grip could cause the same problems.
The antenna on this unit is obviously to the right of the phone - watch for yourself. I have not experienced many problems on the SE unit despite being able to recreate this.

The only difference is that the iPhone does not switch frequency when the antenna is blocked - that can be resolved
Comments?I've conducted a test, to verify the theory that it is really the contact made between the two antennas that is provoking the reception degradation...
I realized that there are two points of contact possible, one at the bottom left, but also one at the top, so I told myself: "If it's really making contact witht he two antennas with the hand, that is generating this issue to appear, then it should also happen if I do this on the other point of contact, that is at the top left corner making sure to cover the two antennas"
Guess what? NOTHING happen if you do so... So apparently making contact between the two antenna is not the reason of this issue!
That would explain why this issue still appears when you deactivate both WiFi and Bluetooth and grip the phone at the bottom left corner...
So it's clearly more complicated than anyone tried to find out here! -
How do I change computers for syncing my iPhone 4s? The original laptop that I used to sync with died and I can not get my iPhone to sync with my desktop.
can't if you do not have access to the old library (the usual workaround is to backup the old library and import it to the new itunes)
for important data...
sync your existing contacts with icloud, your text messages will not be disrupted, music will sync with whatever music you have on your new itunes, photos shoud still be in the camera roll (I would sync them to photostream before you sync, just in case). Any photos on your phone that are not in camera roll or photostream... if you lost those pictures with the computer crash I would take screen shots (lock button + home button at the same time) of each photo so they show up in the camera roll. App data may or may not be lost. In my experience, it depends on the app. Some of the apps recognize your apple ID and sync data over the internet with servers, some do not. I would take note of important data (such as passwords in a password keeper if you have such an app) just in case if you lose that data. -
IPod Not recognized by XP, Slightly different from others
I am having a similiar problem to many peoples. Early this morning I connected my iPod and there were no problems, later in the day I tried and for no apparent reason XP will not recognize it. Not only this but it will also not charge when connected to the computer. Thinking it was just my iPod, I tried the other iPod in my house on a different profile with a different library and the same problem occured.
I have tried restarting the computer, resetting the ipod, uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it, and I also tried to use the restore feature but since XP will not recognize the iPod, neither will the updater.
I do not believe it is the USB cable or ports I am using because when I connect the USB to the iPod the iPod will turn on. I could very easily be wrong but I really don't think it is the USB.
I have not loaded the latest updater, but I do have the latest iTunes. So, it must be that in the span of about ten hours my computer malfunctioned, causing it to simply not read iPods?
Any help and/or solutions is greatly appreciated.

Can you try to back date your XP by doing with the system store
If not works then put your iPod in Disk Mode and hope it got mount -
Yosemite upgrade causes Win7 Bootcamp to BSOD (slightly different than others)
Like others I no longer have a working Win7 Bootcamp partition. Unlike others I still see Windows 7 when I hold ALT booting up the machine. It starts to load windows then I get blue screen of death (unmountable boot volume) and reboots. I can get to the Win7 repair but when it looks for a Windows installation to repair it does not see any.
I can also still see files in that partition in Finder, I'm just really hoping I can get back into the system since I have so many important things installed. I've seen Loner T helping many people and read lots of posts, but I just figured I'd throw my hat in and hope there's a fix for me.

Slightly different airport issue
I've seen a lot of topics already about airport issues, but mine is slightly different. My computer has always had issues connecting to my Linksys wrt54g (802.11g). For a while after we switched ISPs it was better but not perfect. It would cut out for a while and I'd have to restart the router and modem to get signal back up.
Now my computer simply won't recognize my network at least 5 times an hour, probably more. Also, it now has this issue with the network at school. I don't know of anything that's changed to make this happen. At home I now rely on ethernet.
Could it be something wrong with my Macbook Pro 1,1's airport card? Could it be worn out? Can I replace it?
HELP PLZ!Do you have any other computers connecting wirelessly to your router? I seem to remember seeing MANY issues with the WRT54G router and Macs. Possible that your router is bad as well. Your MBP being the problem is not the only possibility.

iPhone WiFi issue. I enter a password, click join, and get a message back that it is an incorrect password. I have several computers and other iPhones connected using the same password. Any ideas?

It sounds like you are not able to join your Wi-Fi network with the correct password on 1 out of many devices. I recommend the troubleshooting from the article named:

Restart your iOS device.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
If that troubleshooting does not resolve the issue, I would next try these steps from further down the article:
Unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network
Verify that you're attempting to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Make sure you're entering your Wi-Fi password correctly. Passwords may be case sensitive and may contain numbers or special characters.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
recently used Bluetooth accessories
VPN and APN settings.

Hyperlinks don't work in Outlook 10 (Slightly different issue)
I have a Dell Latitude running windows 7 Outlook 2010 and Explorer9. When I click on a link in Outlook i get a Microsoft Outlook message which says
General Failure. The URL was:
://click.???????????????? Class Not registered
Cannot place full message due to account not being verified yet.
This only seems to have occurred since Explorer 9 was downloaded, tried reverting back to 8 but same thing happens. Have tried all previous suggestions to fix including " Microsoft Fix It" but no joy. The message I get seems different from others.

Creating several slightly different versins of video
Hi. I am working on a video where we want slightly different versions of it for different coteries (this is a legal thing, they are all in English). I know I could duplicate project and make changes but we will be contently evolving the video and most of it is the same. In FCP 7 I would do this with nested sequences. I would have a sequence for each version and have a number of reusable nested sequences for the content that is the same. Where it is different either edit straight into the sequence or have sequences specific to the version which I also nest.
How should I approach this with FCP X. Maybe I can share compositions between projects in the same library?

You would be doing yourself a huge favor if you right click on the H.264 originals in the Event Browser and select Transcode media and select Create Optimized Media. Karsten was right about nesting compound clips... they will start taking a severe performance hit if you use too many. FCPX has a feature that allows you to build "Auditions" which lets you line up as many clips as you like to occupy a specific time in your project. You can select which version you wish to use right in the storyline. Why does my iPhone 4 have a different Model # than those on display at Apple?
I noticed while in my local Apple store today that their iPhone 4's have a higher Model # in their Settings --> About screen. When I compare mine vs. theirs, why is my Model # lower?
My biggest fear is that Apple will secretly correct the hardware issues on the iPhone 4 & screw over everyone who bought it early by not doing a recall since it would cost them an arm & a leg.

One forum in Canada listed 8 batch numbers of iPhones residing in their country with the last code of "C/A". Mine is "LL" for some reason in the USA. I would have thought it would be "US" but there is probably a more detailed thread on this code choice by Apple.

Powerpoint renders slides slightly differently on different Macs
I have again this weird problem with Powerpoint.
Sometimes, slides look differently on different machines.
The difference is not very large, but definitely noticeable, in particular, if there are other objects on the slide besides the text.

The effect is most pronounced on the first line of bullet 2. (The "R^d" thing is an image.)
I created the PDFs using the print command in Powerpoint and then saving to PDF.
I created the PNG taking a screenshot.
As you can see, there are two problems:
1.
When I print the slide on the MacBook to PDF, the layout of the text is slightly different than on screen.
2.
The layout of the text looks different on both machines.
Both machines run Mac OS 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard).
The powerpoint versions on both machines are identical and up-to-date (12.2.3).
The powerpoint files on both machines are identical (just copied).
I use an in-house font on the slides, which is StoneSansITC; I copied the font files from one machine to the other; they all reside in ~/Library/Fonts, and this is the only place where these font files are located.
I have checked with 'pdffonts' and it seems to me that the Stone fonts are indeed correctly embedded in the PDFs. Here is the output of pdffonts:

With pptonmacbook.pdf, pdffonts yields very similar output.
In Powerpoint, I have checked File -> Properties -> Contents, and the list under "Fonts Used" shows the StoneSansITC fonts alright.
The compatibility report in Powerpoint does not report any issues with fonts (only a few warnings about animations, movies, and "some shapes cannot be changed in earlier versions ..").
Does anyone have an idea how I could resolve this differences in rendering?

S440 - Slightly different WIFI problem
I've read the other lengthy thread on the S440 wifi problem and i'm not sure if mine is slightly different as it has nothing to do with hebernation or sleep mode.
Basically, twice in the last week my wifi has dropped out. I've still been connected to the router, and all other devices in the home are connected and working fine, but my S440 cannot connect to the internet and i get the small yellow exclamation mark over my wifi icon.
The first time it happened, it eventually fixed itself the following day via the network centre trouble shooting, and it came up as some sort of IP address issue.
It happened again last night but it wouldn't fix itself this time. Although this morning, I booted up at the office and its working again.
Its definitely something to do with the laptop as both time all other devices have been ok.

I’m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Wifi on ThinkPad S440.
As per the issue it might with Wifi driver, hence we are requesting you to check with updating the latest driver from the support driver link.

Is there a way to make a smart "playlist" of specific books in my iTunes library, and copy ONLY THOSE books to an iOS device? I own an iPad and an iPhone but I want different books on each different device. When I've tried this, the iOS devices don't seem to respond.
There is no playlist for iBooks, butther eis nothing to preent you from choosing to download specific titles from itunes, or syncing just specific titles to an individual device.

That is a new "feature" described in Connect your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch using Continuity
You can turn it off by going to Settings > FaceTime and changing "iPhone Cellular Calls" to off -
Are the iPhone 5 and 6 different kinds of devices?

In an attempt to restore an iPhone 6 from an iPhone 5 back up in iTunes to attain the voice memos from the iPhone 5, the voice memos did not transfer to the iPhone 6 along with other things.

Any video taken AFTER ios6 was installed only displays a black screen with audio using same version of Quicktime. Sure hope they fix this FAST!! So much for Apple's quality testing!!

I plugged in my iPod and it needed an update. Before the update could complete it said there was an error and then closed the window. Now my iPod is stuck in the loading screen and won't register in iTunes. Please Help.
