Iphone 4 manufacturing defect detected after warranty runs out

I have had my iphone 4 since launch 18 months ago and now the sleep/on off button has become stuck. The Apple store said they charge £119 for a replacement.
My iphone 4 is in great condition, no marks or wear etc so this is obviously a manufacturing defect. Especially when I typed it into google I found out its a very common issue as many owners have reported it.
I cannot believe Apple are not admitting its their fault. Like when the phone first came out they blamed the antenna issue on customers not holding their phones properly...
I will never pay £119 for a replacement just to fix a button that is likely to break again and when it is not my fault.
There is also no way to contact Apple UK to complain, instead they charge people £25 for a one off incident phone support.
what I'm I to do now?
Well I have learnt my lesson and thats the fact that Apple are not as good as they are made out to be ESPECIALLY in terms of their customer service.
Even though I really want to get the iphone 5 when it comes out I will try my best not to as I fear that the level of quality of Apple products are very poor. I will have to start researching Blackberrys and Nokia phones for when my contract expires next year.
Thanks, any advice would be appreciated

I to0 have the same problem. I went to my local Apple Store today and was indeed given the same response: £119 to fix the problem, for a replacement. It is also 18 months old and no blemishes.
Now we all know Apple only give you a one year warranty wheres as most other companies give you two years. I understand you can purchase apple care but as I like the orional OP handel my goods with care I dont see the need for this. The sales of goods act as well as the EU directive states that a product has to be 'fit for purpose'.
'The UK Sale of Goods Act already offers us protection against faulty goods even when the manufacturer’s guarantee has run out and says that goods must last a “reasonable time” – which can be claimed anything up to 6 years from the date of purchase.'
Now if my phone had a smashed up screen and the button was broken off by throwing or dropping it then yes i epect to pay but simple wear and tear after 18 months is unacceptable, and to charge £119 demonstrates the lact of respect Apple has for its consumers. They may be the genuis bar what we are not mugs.

I am trying to edit my music list and then sync it to my iPhone 5 so I don't run out of storage space. However, I see the check marks on the iTunes library but am unable to uncheck them? How do I manually edit what will be synced to my phone? (the check marks are not bolded, does this mean they are not in my library but only on my phone?)

You uncheck the music in your iTunes library on your computer and along with sync only checked songs and videos selected under the Summary selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, only checked songs in your iTunes library will be transferred to your iPhone or remain on your iPhone and the unchecked songs in your iTunes library that are currently on your iPhone will be removed when syncing.
Or make use of iTunes playlists and choose selected playlists, albums, artists under the Music selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and select the playlists below that you want transferred to your iPhone.

  • IPhone turns off, thinking it has run out of battery

From time to time (every second or third day) my iPhone turns off thinking it has run out of battery. This is despite the battery % stating it still has a significant amount of power remaining. I have seen it turn off at 17%, 25% and today 38%. When I try to turn it back on by holding down the on/off butting, the screen displays the out of battery screen, telling me to plug it into a charger. When I plug it into a charger, the phone comes back on, and already has the same amount of charge as it did before it turned off. So in today's case when I plugged it back it, and it powered up, the phone had 38% of battery immediately.
What can I do to fix this so the phone uses all its battery life?
    Thanks

For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
    Restart / Reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    Backing up, Updating and Restoring
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try all these steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...

  • Trackpad gestures freezes after battery runs out

I have noticed very annoying problem with my macbook pro. Everytime when the battery runs out trackpads finger gestures freezes and only one finger using + scrolling with two works but nothing with three or four fingers. Also the mouse acceleration like shuts down. Only way to make the trackpad working again is to reboot the computer.
I have also tried deepsleep widget and the problem doesn't seem to have anything to do with the hibernation but with the battery life ending.
Does anyone have a same problem and any way to fix it without rebooting the computer?

No I mean when the battery really runs out and computer goes to sleep and then the blinking light stops blinking and computer goes to hibernate mode.

  • 2G Ipod Touch stuck in recovery mode after battery runs out

I recently bought an Ipod Touch and have had the battery run out on me several time now on accident and every time it has gotten stuck in recovery mode giving me error 1604 every time i try to restore it. several times before i have gotten it to restore by seemingly random means but was wondering if there was a single way this can be solved other than making sure my battery never dies.

    Hi Ardent Veritas,
The 1604 error is generally related to USB connection issues. The USB connection issue could be causing the charging issues also.
Make sure the iPod is directly connected to the PC and not plugged into a hub, monitor, or keyboard. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1286 provides general USB connection troubleshooting tips.

  • TS4510 IPhone iOS7.0.6 Do Not Disturb stays on after Schedule runs out.

When you click the Schedule option in the DND FEATURE, the Manual Option turns on. This is a bug.

    'Do Not Disturb' ON

at schedule time, moon icon APPEAR (~10 seconds delay), ring NOT from 'Favorites' PASS THROUGH
    'Do Not Disturb' OFF
under Notification -> 'Do Not Disturb' Scheduled ON
at schedule time, moon icon APPEAR (~10 seconds delay), right NOT from 'Favorites' PASS THROUGH
    'Do Not Disturb' ON
under Notification -> 'Do Not Disturb' Scheduled OFF
    moon icon APPEAR
Allow Calls From 'Favorites', (test phone not on favorites)

I think the above tests should proof that the 'Do Not Disturb' is not working except showing a moon icon.

  • How can I update my iPhone 3gs to iOS4, after iOS5 came out?

I am still running iOS 3 (1.3) on my iPhone 3GS and I'm happy with it - but all the new apps requires iOS4 and now I'm sick of this. I want iOS4 (and not iOS5, cause it will drain my battery as far as I've understood).
How can I update my iPhone 3GS in a normal way to iOS4, through iTunes or another easy way? I have never jailbreaked an iPhone so I don't know too much about "backdoors" into my iPhone.

The only Firmware in the iOS 4 series that Apple is still signing for the iPhone 3GS is 4.1. So you could restore  to 4.1. You will have to download the 4.1 IPSW from Apple, and then install it with iTunes, Option Click Mac or Shift Click Windoz, on the Restore Button and then select the 4.1 IPSW on your computer. The current iTunes may give meaningless Errors, I doubt because you are Upgrading. But if Error Message is given you will have to search the Web for ways to Exit Recovery.

  • BPM Timer Object - Process sticks at timer after duration runs out

We have a process that is using a timer as part of the logic, but we had a strange issue where the process got stuck on the timer for 10 hours (it should have been 1 minute). The context values seem fine for the timer. This has only happened once. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen? Server issue? We are running 7.31 SP05.

SAP will take some time to reply. We can try out different things till then.
Is it possible for you to re-deploy the BPM DC and check again?
Where is this timer placed exactly? Does it have anything else running in parallel? Would be great if you can post your process design here so that we can look into it.

  • Got Applecare in the mail after warranty ran out

I had ordered Applecare for my ipod from a 3rd party and I had actually placed the order prior to the warranty expiring however due to shipping delays I won't actually be able to register it until a few days after it's 1 year warranty has expired. Will this work or should I get a refund from this company?

nel360, let's not get it confused! Did you previously have your device appraised online here? http://vz.to/1cbRAbP If so, then the Device Recycling Team will mail you shipping materials to send that device to them.

  • Restarting after shutdown(run out of power)

    Device:
MacBook Pro - non Retina disp
    13" - Mid 2012
    2.9 GHz intel.C i7
    8GB RAM
    Greetings all,
So I've purchased my mac earlier this year and approximately after a month I've been noticing this weird thing happening whenever i re-use it in low power.
So I'm using my device until the battery power reaches a low percentage (around 10% and lower) and then i close the lid (Mac goes to sleep), and leave it for  some time (sometimes from night to morning and others for just couple of hours). then when i come back to use it, it doesn't start whenever i push the power button (no power). i then plug in the power cable and wait:
    - sometimes 5, 10, 30, 50 seconds
    -sometimes 1,2,4,5,10 minutes
-and sometimes more than half an hour!.
and then press the power button again. now, it does work and here is where the weird thing is happening.
once i press the power button, the screen becomes all grey and behind it is my log-in picture background with the log in password box. right beneath it there is a loading bar. it doesn't show me any loading process*. it just appears fully loaded (all bars are colored).
then it suddenly shuts down. i press multiple keyboard buttons, mouse and it doesn't respond. only sometimes when it shuts down there is light from the screen (black), but the very most of the times the devise "looks" completely shutdown.
i then press the power button again and everything goes normal, except that its slow when i type my log-in password.
once or twice the grey screen appeared again(2 times).
I've videoed the whole thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHsmNaYBWns
    * The video shows loading process, but it doesn't usually happen.

I managed to start it again, I just had to wait a while (battery power was too weak).

  • Iphone 4's battery runs out in 2 hours after connecting to Exchange 2003

    Hi,
Ever since I connected my iphone to Exchange 2003, the battery runs out 3-4 times as fast. It looks like it's constantly polling the server for new mai and also the phones appears to run hotter than before. Is there any parameter I can tweak to fix this?
    I'm running IOS 5 on iPhone 4.
    Thanks,
    Guy

My battery on my iphone 4 was draining in a few hours and turning hot while not doing anything (idling).
I downloaded lAssistant (with an L not an i) and noticed that before i deleted my hotmail account, the activity of the CPU while my iphone 4 was not doing anything, was 35-40% while AFTER i deleted my hotmail account the activity dropped to 4% and the battery returned tom normal drain.
My Iphone 4 returned to normal operation after
    1. removing my Hotmail account from settings->mail,contacts->accounts->(choose hotmail account) Delete Account,
    2. turning off my  iphone 4
    3. turning on my iphone 4
    4. Re-adding my Hotmail account
The battery has STOPPED draining and getting hot.

  • Problem after running out of battery.

My MACBOOK PRO running on OS X Lion shut down the other day after completelly running out of battery. Ever since, I have started having problems with my browsers. Certain pages such as facebook wont load aswell as videos. On top of that it keeps asking me to verify the certificates of any page I want to go to and  it keeps telling me that my date and time have been set to 1.1.2008 (although i changed it back the first time i saw it and since the date is still alright).
What do I have to do?

After charging at least overnight try the remaining items of:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My support warranty runs out in four days. I've had it for three years. Initially, that support was very helpful to me as I am a bit challenged when it comes to computers. I hate to spend the money to renew my support by phone for a year when I can get the help I need, which seems minimal now, by chatting to various communities. I had a problem with no sound on my MacBook about a month ago and someone from one of the communities told me how to rtesolve it. I was impressed. Do you think I can get the help from chatting to various communities or should I look into resubscribing? Thank you

Some of the forum members actually work for Apple, so they know what they are doing
Did anyone represent themselves as such that you know of? This is a user to user site and generally, there is no or very rare post by someone working for Apple (except for a community host) - anyone who does would/should be displaying the Apple logo under their name; the hosts do not offer technical support, but check the site to make sure it is running well and as intended. All that is spelled out rather nicely in the ToU's.

  • Does AppleCare cover manufacturing defects?

I recently got my new iPod touch 5th generation, and today I realized there was a dent in the bezel surrounding the screen. Will apple replace it?

Yes it covers manufacturing defect. However, the warranty includes this statement:
This Warranty does not apply: (a) to consumable parts, such as batteries or protective coatings that are designed to diminish over time, unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship; (b) to cosmetic damage, including but not limited to scratches, dents and broken plastic on ports; .....
    http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/ipod-english.html
Therefore, Apple may not replace it.
I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to find out.
