IPhone 4 moisture sensor

Hi,
I have a problem back home in Romania with the wireless carrier service provider. They took my 4 for service ( home button problem an volume "-" not functional) in a plastic bag even after I asked them why, because I went to the colection point with its original box and accesories. After 15 days they sent it back warranty voided because of the moisture sensors being triggered . Well it does not look right because I use a Griffin Survivor case. And also because it was never even remotely close to water. And I bought the phone from an Apple reseller. And why they took it wraped in a plastic bag when I had the box???
Long story short, how can I complain to Apple about the way this service works??? I am not the only one with this problem and they keep doing it.
There is any contact e-mail from Apple Inc?
Any advices more then welcomed !!!
Best regards,
Dan St

Thanks for the reply. Is your sensor partially white & silver or all silver?

  • Viewing the status of moisture sensors, temperature and other data

Is there a program which reports the status of temperature, moisture and other sensors as well? The applications I've tried do not include moisture sensor information.

The Apple Hardware Test will check the status of various internal sensors but not the moisture detectors.
    Ciao.

  • Why my 5s iphone aproximity sensor became red?

I Just notice that the aproximity sensor (near to the frontal camera)  began to shine in a red tone. Its a very weak light, and i really worried because I read something about "iphone wet" sensor and water.

Has your phone been exposed to water?

  • IPhone promimity sensor (?) emitting very bright light

A few days ago one of the sensors on my 3g iPhone has started emitting a bright light. The sensor is at the top of the phone, to the left of the earpiece. It's the sensor that has another directly above it. It looks like a small c with a circle in the middle. The iPhone hasn't been water damaged (and yes, I've checked the headphone socket and base of the phone). It's not a case of just seeing the sensor, the light is bright and constantly on; in the dark it looks like a red LED.
Can anyone, ahem, shed any light? I'm currently on holiday in a very hot Thailand (if that's of any help, I'm not just bragging)

Maybe you can just see infra-red? Seriously though, there may be a IR filter over the LED which has become dislodged. Normally it would only allow IR light to shine through, meaning you couldn't see it under normal circumstances.

  • My iPhone 4 sensor doesn't work?

I change my iPhone 4 screen and I found that the sensor doesn't work what I do

If you have a case on the iphone, remove and see if that helps.
If reset, restore do not solve, then make an appointment at the genius bar or call Apple Support to arrange for a replacement.

  • IPhone 3G Sensors

Hi all, I'm getting the 3G iPhone soon and I was wondering if anyone knew where the ambient light sensor/proximity sensor(s) are located, because I also want to get a skin or case for it, and I want to pick one that won't block any of the sensors. So if any of you know please enlighten me :]
    Thanks in advance for helping!

The location for the proximity sensor and light sensor for the iPhone 3G has been changed.
They are located to the left of the iPhone's earpiece instead of located side by side just above the earpiece with the first generation iPhone.
You need to purchase a case that includes being compatible with the iPhone 3G.
Check this case for the exact location of the light sensor and proximity sensor.

  • IPhones proximity sensor stopped working.

    Hi,
I've now read quite a lot of the other discussions on this so I've literally tried everything. Mine stopped working about two days ago (It had been working fine the past 2 and a bit years) - it's just pretty annoying really (the face dialing etc).
    What I've tried
    Reset settings
    Reset to factory settings
    soft reboot
    removed case
    removed screen protector
Phone hasn't been dropped , immersed in water , lcd replaced etc etc
    Anyone have any ideas?
P.S I can't take it in to an Apple retail store as at the moment I'm currently in New Zealand where they have no stores.
    Thanks!.

Also forgot to add that it also doesn't change brightness automatically anymore.

  • Iphone about light sensor

Iphone light sensor design mobile phone has some defects, such as mobile phone but from bright place back to when the shadows light sensor can't make timely adjust, cause when in the shade is still bright screen, or from dark turn to bright light environment when might not make timely adjust. Hope engineering and technical personnel can through the future software update or hardware transformations make the light sensor become more downy, timely.

I noticed that too. Very cool, particularly when you're on the phone and need to keep entering in numbers rather than get a real live person on the other end.

  • Warranty and moisture indicators

    Hello,
I just wanted to inform other iPhone users that there are 2 externally visible moisture indicators that are white normally but turn red when exposed to moisture. My phone has the one at the charger plug tripped but the phone works perfectly.
The problem here is my warranty is now void regardless of moisture not being a cause for the phone to have problems. What I'm worried about is if I do have a real problem not related to moisture and will be told it's not covered.
The purpose of the indicators is to warrant moisture causing failure of the device. Problem here is that my phone proves that an indicator turning red may not cause failure.
You all may want to check your phones to see if either the indicator in the end of the headphone jack (bottom of the hole) or in the small area in between the plug are tripped. if so you have no warranty regardless if your phone has been damaged by moisture.
Apple needs to do something about the accuracy of it's sensors if it will base warranty coverage off this.
This is horrible and could cause some legal implications in the future.
    Thanks for reading.

The idea of moisture sensors concerns me a lot. Firstly - why put moisture sensors on the outside of the phone. Most people will get a few raindrops on a phone without it causing a problem. For the moisture sensors to be useful they need to be attached to some vital component deep within the phone. If a couple of drops of water on the casing will cause failure then they need to redesign the phone.
Secondly, we have received an iMac and a MacBook Pro that have been damp (ie. water droplets on the casing) out of the box from new. In the case of the iMac, the water droplets were inside the case too - we know this because when we called AppleCare they suggested opening the case to help it dry out before we used it. We assume that these water droplets have formed because the computer was assembled or transported from somewhere with high humidity (such as China), and shipped to us in the UK where the humidity is lower and the temperatures are low, eg. any humidity condenses inside the box.
I would be very interested to know how Apple can prove that these moisture sensors changing colour were not caused by condensing humidity rather than accidental spillage.

  • Has anyone ever dropped an iphone in water and its worked again when its dried out?

I dropped my iphone down the loo! Will it work again when it has dried out?

Mine took a swim in a pool. Did the rice thing as described by Wjosten above. Got the phone back up and running but lost some pixels on the screen.
Just know, there is a moisture sensor inside the phone. If you go to the Apple store and they run a diagnostic, the phone will report back that it's gotten wet, thus nullifying your warranty. Doesn't take much for that Sensor to be activated. A good, sweaty workout at the gym gets it's going... Oh, that's if you workout with your phone in your bra, but that's a story for another time. TMI?

  • IPHONE 4 Can't See Anything.

My iPHON 4 work's but I can't see anything! The birghtness is all the way up, but nothing is showing. When I go to lock it, it would flash real quick, but then I can't see anything again. I have to put the phone on a slant to try and see where everything is. HELP!

This may be a result of liquid damage.
Which unfortunately voids any warranty made by apple.
You should book a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest apple store for a proper examination.
What you have described to me sounds like what happens when the moisture sensors on the iphone get activated rendering your iphone next to impossible to use.
If you are able to book an appointment at the genius bar by going to your nearest apples stores website.
    one question for you.
If you shine a bright light on the display do see it faintly if so it is usually what happens when the phone has liquid damage.
But see a Genius first just to be sure. It could be something else

  • I have an iphone 4s, and i can not connect to any wirless router through wifi??

i have an iphone 4s and i can not connect to any wirless router using wifi, the only way it to put it in the freezer for a few minutes and the i only get like 5 minutes of wifi time and the the connection drops again and the phone can not even recognize the network??
    any help??!!

Seriously...and where did you get this tech tip? You do realize that all iPhone 4S's are still under warranty, although there's a very good chance your freezer trick has tripped a moisture sensor, thus voiding your warranty. Make an appointment at an Apple store, but be prepared for bad news. Good luck.

  • I think my iPhone is leaking :s

Ok this is going to sound crazy but hear me out. I have had my iPhone a week and tonight it was sitting beside me while I was watching tv. I picked it up, as you do and noticed the screen was slightly wet. I thought this was strange as I have nothing even remotly liquidy in the room. Anyway I had it in a rubber shell so I took it out that and noticed the inside of the rubber was soaking but the outside was dry! This would indicate to me the liquid is coming from inside the device. Just to stress the point - it has definitly not been anywhere near water. Has anyone had this? I don't really know what to do because it's still working fine but I spent slot of money on it and I'm afraid it will break.
P.s I took out the sim and this was also damp.

There are no liquid components inside the iPhone (including the battery, which is filled with a polymer). The water came from somewhere external, perhaps condensation, perhaps you got it a little wet a short time ago - the tight-fitting rubber case would have prevented the water from evaporating. Could have been rain, water spilled on a counter near the phone, anything really. The case may have acted as a 'siphon' with the very small amount of space between phone and case creating surface tension of the water, drawing it in (this is called capillary action).
In any case, leave the case off, turn the phone off, and let it dry completely (at least a day, placing it in a bag with rice or desiccant is a good idea).
If your moisture sensors are tripped, your warranty is void.
