IPhone 4 not recognized by iTunes 10.1.1
I am running 10.6.6 and 4.2.1 and when I plug in my iPhone 4 to sync with iTunes nothing happens, it is not recognized. If I open iPhoto it finds the phone and I am able to sync photos. This is getting ridiculous, this is probably the fifth time this has happened. It happened last week so I called apple and they gave me a 22 step process to wipe out iTunes and install again. This solved the issue and I was able to sync my iPhone once but not anymore. I desperately need a fix for this! Please let me know how to fix this without restoring my iPhone or reinstalling iTunes because this cannot be the only fix.
Thank You

Hi had the same problem with my iphone my problem was the usb driver for apple that was the cause. To be exact the inf file was the culprit .
1.Go to device manager ,under usb serial bus controllers ,apple mobile device driver should be seen,If not do this first connect iphone to computer switch to camera this should start installing driver for the camera of the iphone check the portable devices in Device Manager Apple Iphone should be seen then go down to the Universal Serial Bus Controllers now you should see the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver right click on and click on update driver browse on computer for driver software
Navigate to C:\Program Files\CommonFiles\Apple\MobileDeviceSupport\Drivers\usbaapl.inf.click on this file and you should now have this working.Talk about pulling out hair for this easy fix like others before me reninstalled all the software again again for ditto.I hope this works.Let me know cheers

IPhone not recognized by iTunes any more
iTunes 9.0.2 on a 2006 iMac 2GHz intel duo running OSX 10.5.8
iPhone 3Gs 32 gig
iPod (5th gen)
3 external hard drives, all the iTunes library stored on a Mybook 1 TB Firewire drive plugged into iMac direct, not via a Firewire hub.
I plugged my iPhone into the Mac this am, tried to sync the iPhone and got an error message saying that something was wrong with my iTunes.
Mac then froze.
Finally got the Mac back up after five attempts (eventually, had to unplug everything, including the mains to the iMac, plug in just the power, keyboard and mouse, press and hold power switch for 5 secs then plug in each extra drive when the Mac came back up).
Found something seriously wrong with iTunes as it wouldn't open when clicked on (Force Quit reported app frozen).
Deleted iTunes using AppZap then downloaded iTunes from Apple website.
iTunes now back up on iMac but can't find any of the music files (even when I carefully repoint the iTunes to the correct location for the iTunes library by iTunes/Preferences/Advanced then Change iTunes Media Folder Location). Each entry in the iTunes library now has a black exclamation mark against it,
Also, iTunes doesn't see my iPhone when I plug it in.
Also, when I plug in my iPod, get the error message "The iPod is synced with anotehr iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?"
HELP!
By the way, I have TIME MACHINE running to a separate and dedicated HD. Can I not just "roll back" my iMac in the same way I could do with a PC, say selecting the iMac when it was last working fine (yesterday evening)??
Keeping fingers crossed and hoping for an answer....
ChrisRather than create another "iPhone not recognized by iTunes" thread, I'll add to this one. I have an iPhone 3G 8GB.
After going through those steps you listed, my Windows XP installation always reverts back to the old Windows Apple iPhone drivers which only sees it as a camera. I've had it set to only pull from the iTunes drivers by specifying "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install" in the Hardware Update Wizard. Windows still doesn't like the iTunes drivers stating "the specified location does not contain information about your hardware". This location is the same as you noted: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers" which contains:
usbaapl.cat
usbaapl.inf
usbaapl.sys
All dated 7/22/2008.
My current drivers for the iPhone in my setup are still the MS drivers, version 5.1.2600.0.
usbscan.sys
ptpusb.dll
ptpusd.dll
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

IPhone not recognized by iTunes after update
I recently downloaded & installed the latest update for iTunes and it actually removed iTunes and put and extra (& useless) shortcut for quicktime in my desktop. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled iTunes and quicktime with nor problem. I hooked up the iPhone and downlaoded the latest update for it as well and it crashed during the installation of it. I have since had to reboot on my roomates pc and it will not be come up in iTunes. My computer still recognizes it though. I have gone through all the steps in apples site and microsoft and have no clue what to do now. I use this thing all day every day and need the music and video capablities for "work" purposes. If anyone can help, thanks.
Symptoms:
iPhone not recognized by iTunes on Windows computer, however an iPod will.
The iPhone CAMERA appears in windows My Computer - but nowhere else.
Problem:
The Apple iPhone Driver has been replaced by a Microsoft Driver which enables the camera/storage, but did not allow it to connect with iTunes.
SOLUTION:
From Device Manager, Select the iPhone (under imaging/Portable Devices) and then select "Update Driver", Don't direct it to automatically search for a driver, instead, manually point it to search in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers - It should then "do it's thing" and install the correct apple driver - voila - iPhone is then recognized.

I bought an iphone and synced it. When unplugging it, I realized all my apps I downloaded were gone off the iphone (I did find them in the itunes folder however) but the issue is, my Safari and my itunes program will NOT open. They bounce once and that is it, never opens. No errors, nothing. I have been going insane trying to figure out what the problem is. Anyone else have this issue?

IPhone not recognized by iTunes, but listed in "My Computer"
Hi,
I have exhaustively searched the other threads as well as Apple support. I am running Vista 32-bit. I just received a replacement phone and I have literally never had so much as a hiccup recognizing, syncing, etc. on my laptop which is the only computer I have ever used with an iPhone. When I plug in my new phone initially, a pop up appears stating that Device driver is being installed. It will then appear in "My Computer" as a camera, but does not appear in iTunes.
I have un-installed and re-installed iTunes.
I have un-installed and re-installed the driver for iPhone. When I go to the device manager and attempt to install device driver manually, the message appears "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to intall it. The phone is recognized on my desktop computer and my iPod is recognized on my laptop. So I am assuming it must be something that is setup on my computer that I need to delete, modify, add, etc. Please someone help.DR2238 wrote:
When I start ITunes and plug in my IPhone, ITunes will recognize the IPhone as normal, after about a minute, my IPhone will disappear and disconnect from ITunes. I have the most current ITunes and IPhone versions, I have tried different USB cables and different USB ports with the same result. The IPhone will still be listed as a camera in My Computer but not recognized by ITunes. If I unplug the IPhone and plug it back in, ITunes will recognize it again but drop it after about a minute.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
It sounds to me like it could be something to do with some power saving mode you have on your computer, such as screen saver or some other power saving mode. Do you have a laptop or desktop PC? as I am more inclined to think that a laptop might cause it if it were running on battery.
The power saving modes/screen saver etc should be in the Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click Power Options. In the power options box, have a look around in here and temporarily switch off the screen saver, and adjust the various power option values for the various parts of your computer, to the maximum length/or switch that option off so that it isnt used. After these adjustments, restart your computer and load iTunes up and see if the problem remains.
I never put my iPhone in airplane mode when syncing and I have never had your problem. But if my suggestion doesn't work, then it might be worth trying Piperox13 suggestion. -

Yesterday i updated iTunes to its latest version (10.1.1) in order to be able to update my iPhone 3GS to the latest OS version hoping to fix a problem with the phone's volume which goes all the way to low on its own. But ever since i updated iTunes my phone is not recognized by iTunes, yet it is recognize by my PC. I connect the phone, it beeps when connects, and the window that allows me to browse through the phone's camera roll opens, and it shows under My Computer. Iphone not recognized in iTunes when computer is connected to the Internet
I hope someone can help me with this.
When you log onto the computer and connected to the internet, iTunes takes almost a full minute to open and when I plug my iPhone in, the computer dings like it sees it, but it never shows up in iTunes. HOWEVER, if I am NOT connected to the internet, iTunes opens in 4 seconds and the iphone is recognized in iTunes.
So basically iTunes and iPhone only really works if there is no internet connection.
Any one hear of anything like this before?
Thanks. No, hadn't tried that. Did, but it didn't work... the loading bar made it a little bit further however it still froze. Not sure if this will help (or even what this means) but this is the error message it displays in the report to send to apple (however it won't even allow me to send it)

Iphone not recognized by itunes ? after OS upgrade
For the first time in a while, I'm trying to sync my phone with itunes. The last time I connected it was before the OS upgrade. I'm not sure if this has something to do with it? I tried almost everything in the troubleshooting except for uninstalling and reinstalling itunes. I have a lot of play lists saved that I'm afraid to lose My computer is recognizing that the iphone is connected.
iTunes does not store any data. iTunes accesses data that is stored completely separate from the application. Deleting and re-installing iTunes does not touch your iTunes library or media folder - just like deleting and reinstalling the Word application doesn't touch any Word files. Regardless, your iTunes library should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data.

IPhone not recognized by iTunes
For some reason my iPhone is no longer being recognized by iTunes.
I'm running 8.2 and 3.0 firmware. I've tried different cables, ports, reinstalling iTunes, rebooting the computer, rebooting the phone and nothing.
The phone is charging when connected to the Mac, and iPhoto sees the phone just fine and I can move files to and from with iPhoto.
I've tried deleting my pod casts, pretty much every suggestion I've seen online. Booting with no other devices in. I've made sure iTunesHelper is running.
The phone is not altered or Jailbroken nor has it ever been.
I'm really stumped and I don't know what else to do. Please Help!Um.....ok so I punched my phone in anger and it recognized it 2 seconds later.....maybe violence is the answer?
If anyone has a legitimate answer I'd still like to hear it as I don't want to have to punch my phone every time. -
Iphone not recognized by itunes/can't upgrade itunes/ don't want to upgrade software
After having my iphone 3g "fixed" in the apple store and connecting it to one of their brand new computers, my itunes no longer recognizes my iphone and says I need to upgrade to new Itunes which I can't do because I only have the Tiger version of software. Is there anything I can do so my iphone can go back to normal without purchasing updated software?
I am having a similar problem. I am attempting to install the airport extreme card in my ibook g4. The computer is not recognizing the card and now it isn't recognizing the iphone. If I remove the airport card then itunes recognizes the iphone. I have the original phone with the 2.01 update. I'm stumped.

IPhone not recognized by iTunes, won't stay Off, etc
My iPhone started giving me an error message yesterday (happens about every 30 mins or so) that "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone"
The problem is nothing is connected to the iPhone! Additionally, whenever I connect the phone to my comp, iTunes fails to recognize it. So I can't do a Restore. In fact, it appears that the iPhone doesn't realize it is plugged in.
I was able to charge it from the wall charger last night, so I am pretty sure the connector "works."
Is there a way to reset the phone without using iTunes?
(Yes, I am the original owner. No, it is not jailbroken.)
Thanks!
