IPhone 4 not showing in iTunes 11 (Mountain Lion 10.8.2)

I'm at the end of my tether with this one. I bought a MacBook Pro about two weeks ago to replace my older (black) MacBook from 2006. My iPhone 4 had been synced with the MacBook with no problems all year. My new MacBook Pro came with iTunes 11 and so I plugged it in, chose the erase and sync option knowing full well that I wanted to sync my phone with the iTunes on my new MacBook Pro.
For about ten days now my phone has been unable to register in iTunes at all. I mean, the Device list is not even available. I can't change my music or sync new apps or anything. I can't even get into Devices to restore my bloody phone to see if that will work. I have reset my phone after backing it up on iCloud.
My guess is that my phone may still be synced to my old MacBook so I tried plugging it into that, but I had the same issue. When I plug it into both, there is a delay before the double buzz that lets me know it's charging. The charging icon appears on my phone screen for a few seconds, then disconnects even though it's still plugged into my computer. Then occassionally it will re-connect, then disconnect many times. Yet NEVER does the phone appear in iTunes, nor does the sync icon appear on the phone.
I've tried everything, I've deleted iTunes from my MacBook and re-installed iTunes 11 and then plugged my phone in again at which point it actually appeared but then I received an error message and before I had chance to read it, it had disappeared and now I'm back to square one. However, when I re-installed iTunes, all my music remained so it wasn't a 'new' version of iTunes with nothing in it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. And yes I have gone through Apple's Troubleshooting steps for iPhone more times than I can count.

I presume you are on a PC?
Go into device manager (start menu > right click my computer > manage
Device manager on left hand side.
In device manager your iphone will appear under portable devices.
Right click on the devices and click uninstall.
Unplug your iphone.
Restart your PC.
After your computer logs back in plug your iphone back in.

  • Airplay Not Showing Up on Mountain Lion Menu Bar

I upgraded to Mountain Lion and cannot get the airplay status icon to show on the menu bar as shown in the Apple online help for Airplay..  Airplay does show up in my Mountain Lion iTunes and sees all my airplay devices (Apple TV's) and plays video and audio through them just fine.   Other Mountain Lion features, like the notifications bar on the far right seem to work fine and the notifications Icon appears on the menu bar.
This kind of ***** because we have been waiting to upgrade all our Mac's in the office so we can get rid of the cables in our confernece rooms and just use Apple TV to connect to our LCD's.
Did I get hoodwinked on this feature ?   Is it not really in Mountain Lion ?

    Well, let me explain.
I run a software company.  I LOVE Apple.  I bought 80 macbooks and switched my whole development team off of windows.  They all LOVE Apple products.
We think AirPlay was going to be very cool because we have meeting areas that have huge LCD's in them and we constantly use AirPlay to do UI reviews from the iPhone and iPad - - both of which we write software for.   We were pumped about AirPlay in ML to do the same thing.
There was a collective groan yesterday when we figured out what was happening.   It may have been announced a while ago, but it sure wasn't visible in the marketing promo material that's coming out.
I think Apple UNDERESTIMATED or MISSED the value this has in offices for eliminating cables.  Maybe they thought it was a minor feature.    I don't know.
In the end I think the real issue is it uses too much CPU on the older machines and they were afraid it would cause some real warranty or support problems.
I just don't get why airparrot can create the same feature and it works great.  No CPU heating, no system slowdown.
My personal guess is that it has to do with the encryption operation in some way - -which a lot of people wouldn't worry about.

  • Gmail Reminders not showing up in mountain lion

I don't have an iPhone, so all of my reminders (tasks) are in Google Tasks. When I setup my accounts in Mountain Lion on my MBP it says it will sync reminders, but I cannot find them anywhere. So is there a way to sync Google Tasks with Mountain Lions Reminders app, or does this just really not work?
I might switch to an iphone when the new one comes out, but for now I use an Android phone and so whatever I use has to be able to sync to my phone.
    Thanks in advance.

Actually the reminders app in both the iPhone and, it seems, mountain lion, can be updated via exange accounts (I know this for certain, other kinds of 3rd party syncing I can't speak for), but as yet google itself has not implamented task syncing through its exange service. It's very annoying as I use the google sync tools as an alternative to icloud.

  • After ios7 update iphone not showing in itunes on iMac as device

After running latest iphone (4s) update & having the latest itunes update on my iMac the iphone device is no longer showing in itunes. I have checked the USB & changed ports however this does not appears to be the problem as iphone still charging when plugged in. Without this showing as device I have no way to Sync anything.

    Hey Loxwood,
I found a few documented troubleshooting steps for when your iPhone doesn't appear on your Mac:
Ensure that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Install software updates on your Mac.
Note: If an iTunes update is available, apply the update.http://apple.com/itunes/download
Check USB connections. iOS devices require USB 2.0 to function properly. If you're not sure your Mac has USB 2.0 ports, refer to the computer's specifications.
Disconnect other USB devices and connect your device directly to a USB port on your Mac.
    Restart your Mac.

  • Apps on iphone not showing in itunes

i downloaded a few apps onto the phone and [after a lengthy back up], they're not showing up in itunes [apps folder or in the list of apps when iphone is connected]. they're also not in the itunes mobile folder in the home folder.
i "tested" re-downloading an app in itunes and it did say that i've already purchased it [so i didn't actually repurchase it]. but it's nowhere on my macbook -- just on the phone.
i've authorized computer, checked for purchases, and rebooted everything. ideas?

If you downloaded some apps, they should show up in your Library Applications selection. When your iPhone is connected, select the phone and check the Applications tab in the main library window. You should see your apps there. Try a manual sync of just the apps from the Application window. Your Apps will show up individually on the phone. I had to play around with mine a little to get them on the Phone. Now they are working fine. You can add or take them away by turning the checks on and off and syncing. I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck.

  • Calendar subscriptions not showing up in mountain lion notification centre

Has anyone else had this problem when your calendar subscriptions are not showing up on the notification centre. Everything seems to be turned on in the preferences but I'm not seeing any of my calendar subscriptions entrys showing up in the notification centre.
    Please Help.

I had the same problem with my calendar subscriptions and notifications disappearing after upgrading to Mountain Lion (or maybe user error around that same time). Here's how I  resolved the issue:
In Calendar application, click "File", and select "New Calendar Subscription". Paste your calendar feed address into the "Calendar URL" box. In my case, I was re-adding my TripIt calendar feed which looked something like this:
    webcal://www.tripit.com/feed/ical/private/ABCDEFGabcdefg/tripit.ics

  • IPhone not showing in iTunes on Mac Pro, and BLOWS keyboard on two Macs!

I have an extremely annoying issue since I upgraded my original iPhone to 2.0 and 2.1:
    - I've got an iPhone (8GB, first gen) with 2.1 firmware
    - Mac Pro early 2008
    - Aluminium Keyboard (standard)
    - iTunes 8
Whenever I attach my iPhone, the keyboard goes dead. Totally. Only way to re-animate it is by unplugging the iPhone and wait 5 seconds, then re-plug the keyboard. This is on a newly created Admin account on the Mac Pro and the iPhone that has been through a total factory reset back to 2.1 today...
And a newly re-installed iTunes 8 on (all computers).
Note my iPhone is no longer recognized in iPhoto or Aperture or iTunes on the Mac Pro either.
However, the iPhone works fine on a Mac Book Pro (newest model).
It does show up and sync on an iMac Intel 2.0 GHy, but kicks the Aluminum keyboard on that machine as well...
    What is going on??
I will have to double-post this in iTunes and iPhone section, apologies in advance, but this is just too ridiculous... someone must have an answer to this. At least an explanation. I have been through every single USB port on my Mac Pro.
Apple "Genius" in Apple Store Regent Street recommended an archive & install of Leopard 10.5.x. Yeah right. I am working on this machine, I have not got time for that silly idea...
The thing is, this all worked fine before the 2.0/2.1 update... but why is the bl oo dy thing working on a new MacBook Pro and not on my Mac Pro?

// Apologies for cross-posting this in three threads, but as it - at least for myself - provided an instant solution to a nagging problem, it should be alright. //
Alrighty, here we go - today I FINALLY made successful progress WITHOUT having to re-install my entire system...
I figured it was very weird that my iPod Mini would work fine on my Mac Pro USB ports, as all other small devices did too, but that the iPhone (first gen) would simply not trigger any reaction whatsoever.
The iPhone could be ruled out from being the funny one as it was instantly recognized on Macs in the Apple Shop. As I really did not feel I had time to archive & install and whatnot on my work machine, and the fact that I always thought my Mac Pro should have a few more (USB) ports, I researched suitable internal USB expansion boards.
After reading up about it, I decided to get this one: *Sonnet Allegro Express USB* - this card installs in seconds - you simply sht down your Mac Pro, pull the mains plug, take off the side door, unscrew the two thumbscrews holding the blind plates towards the back, take out one of the blinds, push the card in carefully but all the way in, re-attach the blind-holding plate and fire up your machine.
I plugged my regular iPhone dock into the back, pushed in my iPhone, and was instantly greeted by the short humming of the iPhone! Starting iTunes, the iPhone popped up in the side bar again - my precious iPhone is back alive and happy to sync contents!
Very happy to finally have found a solution.
If anyone tries this, I really hope it works as good for you as it did for me - if it doesn't, then for about $50 you've at least got those extra four USB ports on the back of your Mac Pro you always wanted
    Good luck!

  • Iphone not showing in itunes

im getting this message now when i plug in my iphone into itunes!
"This iphone can not be uses because the required software is not installed.
run the itunes installer to remove itunes and reinstall itunes."
ive looked on other forums and came apon this txt "you need to make sure file called iTunesMobileDevice.dll is in this folder
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin
you probably moved this file instead of copy and pasting it. Just search your computer for iTunesMobileDevice.dll (or navigate to the folder on your computer where it is located), copy it, then paste it in the above directory and you should be good to go. (I initially made this same mistake and got this same error)."
this helped one person but i do have the DLL file in that directory.
so any one have an idea why itunes is telling me to uninstall and reinstall, tho i have done this several times with no success.

Have you tried asking in the iPhone forums? I don't have an iPhone, but everyone there probably does.
You could also try using a different USB port.

  • Purchases on my iphone not showing in itunes

after purchasing a an album on my iphone they aren't showing up in my purchases when logging in to itunes on my laptop?

This is one of many reasons why maintaining a backup stored on an external drive or some other external media is so important - regardless the age of a computer or a computer's hard drive. Anything else of any importance that you lost - as in you don't include your iTunes library or at least purchases from the iTunes Store with your backup?
Apple includes an alert/warning message about maintaining a backup for iTunes Store purchases after a purchase is made. I assume this notice/warning was ignored along with all the other irritating pop-up warnings provided with XP and Vista?
It is your responsibility to maintain a backup of your important data including iTunes Store purchases.
You can try contacting Apple Store customer service, which can be done via email, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

  • Drag and Drop not working in iTunes (Mountain Lion)

    Hello,
Earlier today the drag and drop function in iTunes stopped working.
It was working yesterday and this morning, but no longer.
I have not updated any software in a few days, but I did install
JAVA 7 right before it stopped working. I have since deleted the Java 7 files
in Library necessary for ridding my computer of it.
Drag and drop is still fully functional in Finder, Mail, etc
It seems to be broken only in iTunes.
I don't have any clue why this has happened.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks.
    iTunes 10.7 (21) 64bit
    Mac OS X 10.8.2

    Does anybody have any ideas?
I've updated to the new version of iTunes since I originally posted this,
but the drag and drop feature is still not working. This is making it
impossible for me to update anything on my iPod.
    Thanks!

My app store on my macbook pro no longer shows that i purchased mountain lion. So when I am trying to do a reinstall it is not letting me put mountain lion, without re-purchasing it

Pardon the question, but you are checking the mac app store > Purchases (not iTunes or iTunes store or the app store for iDevices)? Have you tried holding the Option key while clicking on Purchases (shows hidden purchases).
