IPhone 4 on older Mac os

I am running a G4 powerbook on 10.4.11 I am about to update my phone to iPhone4 But, iPhone 4 needs 10.5 plus. If i don't update the OS on my Mac and just get the iPhone 4, will it (The iPhone) charge or draw power from the USB port on the Mac without having to sync? I know it won't sync with 10.4.11 but frankly I don't care, I don't want to sync it, I will use it as a stand alone product, coz I am fed up with updating my OS every time i change the phone.

If you purchased a used Mac with 10.5.x pre-loaded, you should have been provided the install disc for 10.5.x. This is required to run Disk First Aid on the hard drive if needed.
Is it possible to just buy an iPhone 4 charge it off it's wall charger and never show it my Mac, or do you still have to do all that... attaching it to a computer with iTunes just to register the unit before you can use it BS?
In order to install a firmware update or restore an iPhone if wanted or needed, a compatible computer with iTunes is required. The minimum system requirements for the iPhone are included on the retail sales box and per the specifications for the iPhone via Apple's website.
It is a phone for crying out loud, every other phone on the planet can be bought, charged and used. Why does Apple make it such a ** to get going?
Call a waaaaaaaaambulance or better yet, return the iPhone for payment credit and purchase any other phone on the planet that doesn't require anything. Since no other phone in the smart phone category on the planet requires anything to be used as designed and intended, you have plenty of other devices to choose from. No point in having a temper tantrum over a phone.

Have an older 17 MacBook Pro, running OS 10.5.8. Software update says everyting is current. Mac doesn't have iCloud, preferences still shows MobileMe. Just bought new iPhone 5S. Mac won't recognize phone, says I need newer version of iTunes. Have no problem with computer recognizing old phone 3 or 1-1/2 year old iPad. I suspect I need to update OS, but as software update isn't telling me to do so, can I? What version would I need to go to?

Your MacBook Pro can be updated to run Mac OS X "Snow Leopard". Buy it. That will enable you to run the latest iTunes version.

  • My Iphone and Ipad wouldn't appear in itunes when i connect them to my mac. I have already upgraded my itunes to the latest version. I have no problem synching my ipod though. Could it be because I am using an older mac? (Mac OS X version 10.4.11)?

Neither my iphone nor my ipad would appear in itunes when i connect them to my mac. I have already upgraded my itunes to the latest version. I have no problem synching my ipod to itunes using the same mac though. Could it be because I am using an older mac? (Mac OS X version 10.4.11)?

You need to be using a Mac OS X version at least as new as the one given in the device's original system requirements.

Its not telling you to update your iPad, its telling you you need to download a recent version itunes on your computer.
Go here to download the newest version of iTunes.

Syncing music on older Mac with iPhone.

Good work, I'd try Wifi & see, but not sure the 5s even does regular file tranfer, maybe just Syncing, which requires 10.6.8 & a slew of newer iTunes, QT, etc... all out of the question for our G5s.
If nothing else, you should be abe to setup Internet Sharing on the G5 to save money anyway...
Sys Prefs>Sharing>Internet Sharing, set it up.
To see that you can easily getback to exactly where you are now, first...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Meaning Ethernet on top, Airport/Wifi undeneath, then setup Internet Sharing in that Location.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unfortunately, if Apple simply allowed people to log into different accounts and download content, everyone would be using everyone could share everyone else's content and bypass the need to purchase anything. To protect against this, they limit you to logging into a new account to once every 90 days.
If two or more of you, have different accounts and use only one computer, you should each have your own user account on the computer, to avoid the need to log in and out of iTunes.

  • IPhone 4 Sync with Older Mac

So i'm considering buying an iPhone 4 (ok just waiting for my paycheck) but I just noticed that the system requirements say you need OSX 10.5. Is that just to get all available sync features (like notes)? I'm running OSX 10.4.11 and have a 16GB 3G and it works fine. Just don't wont to buy a 4 and find out I cant sync with my computer.
    Thanks for any replys,
    T

Also, not only do I have to update the operating system but I also have to add RAM to my 512MB to make it 2GB (I think this is the right amount). This is going to cost me more making it a grand total of around $350 just to set my dang phone up.
There is no minimal RAM requirement with the minimum system requirements.

    +Mac computer with USB 2.0 port+
    +Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later+

    +Internet access+
No one is taking advantage of you. The minimum system requirements for the iPhone 4 were published on the day the iPhone 4 was announced. Although XP is supported with the iPhone 4 on a PC, Service Pack 3 or later is required which is 2 years old.

First, Windows XP requires Service Pack 3 to be installed, an update to the Windows XP operating system that was not released until May 2008, just over two years ago. So, while Windows XP does run on very old PC machines, iPhone 4 still requires software that is only 2 years old on the PC. iPhone 4 also requires the latest version of iTunes, which has a minimum hardware requirement of a 1GHz processor, bringing the effective age of a PC closer to that of an Apple equivalent machine.

  • Hello All, I have an older MAC and currently have iPhoto 09, version 8.1.2. Every time iPhoto is opened I get a message about a upgrade to a newer version of iPhoto, but when I select the link, it takes me to the Apple website and says the page I'm look

    Hello All,
I'm Gene. I have an older MAC desktop and am running iPhoto 09, version8.1.2 (424). Each time I connect my iphone to my MAC I get a message that there is a newer version of iPhoto, but when I select the link, I am taken to the Apple webpage and get a message that the page I'm looking for is not available. All I would like to do is upgrade my iPhoto. Do I need to upgrade to the latest version of iWork, and if so, what version and how would I do that? Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks

The iPhoto version that is currently available at the App Store os 9.5.1 and requires the Mavericks OS X.  The early 2008 24" iMac can run Mavericks.  Once you have Mavericks installed (it's free)  you can purchase iPhoto 9.5.1 from the App Store.
If you don't want to upgrade to Mavericks you can purchase a copy of the iLife 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com and install iPhoto 9.  Then up trade it to 9.4.3 via the updaters at the  Apple Downloads website: Apple - Support - Search

  • Mac mini server has suddenly stopped seeing one or the other bluetooth devices! Batteries have been changed and they will connect to an older Mac mini. Server will now only see one or the other but not both.

My Mac mini server has suddenly stopped seeing one or the other bluetooth devices, either the wireless keyboard or the mouse( both apple products) have tried new batteries, at first it was the mouse that stopped responding, but upon rebooting the computer now the keyboard will not respond and the mouse works. Both work fine on an older Mac mini that I hooked back up to check.

There is absolutely no reason why they should not bothe be able to connect to your WiFi network. The easiest place to start would be to reboot your router. Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in again. I would also restart both the iPad and the iPhone.

  • HT5395 Is there anyway to recover my iMessage history from my iPhone to my Mac? Thank you!

Is there anyway to recover my iMessage history from my iPhone to my Mac? Thank you!

    HI,
Sorry I should have been clearer.
The only way to move any iMessages from and iPhone to a Mac is at the point when they are using the same Apple ID.
Older items are not included in this "Sync".
Messages on a Mac will read older .ichat files (Saved Chats).
It seems that the iMessages on the iPhone do get stored in any iPhone Backup and that can be used to Restore Messages from one iPhone to another.
People state that there are utilities for extracting the iMessages (either from the current display or the Backups) but I have not read that any will then enable the result to be imported in to Messages.

  • ICloud on older Mac running 10.6.8 - with Intel 2 GHz Core Duo

Do I understand correctly that I can't upgrade to iCloud from Mobile Me, with an older Mac running 10.6.8 (with 2 GHz Intel Core Duo)?

This will be the situation with Snow Leopard if you migrate your MobileMe account:
Your email, calendars, contacts and bookmarks, and 'Find my iPhone' will be migrated to iCloud.
Your iDisk, together with website hosting and Gallery, will continue to work as before until next June.
Syncing of Dashboard Widgets, Dock Items and Keychains between Macs, and Mail Accounts, Mail Rules, System Preferences, Signatures & Smart Mailboxes between Macs & iOS devices, will cease altogether.
You will be able to access email, calendar and contacts on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.
You will not be able to sync contacts or bookmarks from a pre-Lion Mac.
You will be able to enter the server settings for email manually in the Mail application and access your email.
You will not be able to sync your calendars directly.
Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point. BusyCal is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion.
There appears to be no method of syncing contacts (though Address Book on a Mac can be synced with Google or Yahoo address books - I don't know how reliable this is).

  • AirPort Time Capsule and older Mac?

I got an Airport Time Capsule as a gift. It will not connect with my older MAC with an operating sytem of 10.5.8.  Is it the operating sytem or is it the TW cable high speed connect that needs adjusting or is this even a possibility to ever run?  Need to know for possible return of equipment.

You need to use the airport utility v6 which requires at least Lion OS.
Or you can use the airport utility in latest iOS.
What modem is your TW cable using? Is it a full router with wireless?
I also tried to connect through my iphone, which has the latest software update and it wiped out the wi-fi on the phone.
When you try and setup the TC it will need to change to the wireless on the TC..
You need to have an ethernet cable from the TW modem to the WAN port of the TC.
And you then put the TC into bridge mode.. of late Apple seem to be trying to force the TC to take over as the main router which can be problem.

  • Is iCloud available on older Macs (2005)

Is iCloud available on older Macs (purchased in 2005)?  Purchased a new iPad and have iPhone 4S which has iCloud but not sure it is available for older Mac.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
iCloud needs OS X 10.7.2 or newer. This version requires a Intel Core 2 Duo processor or later. If you bought your computer in 2005, you have a PowerPC or a Intel Core Duo processor, so you can't install that version and you can't use it. However, you can still set up Mail > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5330

  • Can I run iCloud on my iPhone and older MobileMe account on my iMac?

Can I run iCloud on my iPhone and older MobileMe account on my iMac?

iPhone - should be all right. Mac with 10.6.8 - no - 10.7.2 is required for iCloud. If you migrate from MobileMe but don't have 10.7.2 you will lose access to email, and calendar, contacts and bookmarks syncing: Keychain and other data syncing will stop. You will be able to access email, calendar and contacts on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided you have been able to complete the migration successfully. You will no longer be able to access these facilities on MobileMe after you have migrated, though the iDisk, Gallery and website hosting will continue until next June.
You can access your email by entering the server settings manually into the Mail application or other email client. Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point.
