Yes you can. However, 4G smartphones cannot be activated on prepaid. 3G devices have 3 different available plans. Verizon has an exclusive plan with Walmart which consists of unlimited talk and text with a 1GB for $50. The other 2 plans are unlimited talk and text with 2GB for $60 or 4GB for $70

Apple warranty is for the hardware. It has nothing to do with the ATT calling plan. You'd need to ask ATT if you can use gophone prepaid cards for the iPhone.

Verizon offers prepaid service on the iPhone 4. Go into your local Verizon Store with your phone. I'm sure they'll be happy to set you up with service.

I have no way of knowing if it's unlocked. If you go to the section on the page that says technical details and click on more technical details the give you a link to contact customer support. Perhaps they can answer your questions.
The second iPhone says that it's factory unlocked so I would imagine that the first is not unlocked.

What's unclear is if AT&T is including their HSPA+ network as "4G" It is technically 4G according to th ITU and they market it that way.
They do specify that pre-paid data is for feature phones only. Not smartphones of any type. From the same document:
Data Services for Smartphones
To use data services, smartphone users must be on a monthly rate plan and purchase a data feature package. Data Pay Per Use is not available with smartphones on any GoPhone rate plan.
It may be possible, but if they catch you, and they eventually will, they will shut charge you for it and/or shut down the account.

I currently have an iPhone 4 on 3G smartphone ALLSET Plan With Verizon. I got a iPhone 5c from a friend that already has a SIM card, and don't know how to activate it, and make my iPhone 4 inactive. From all the things I have seen, it requires you to start all over and choose a new phone number etc. I just want my number to be transferred to my iPhone 5c. Any suggestions? I'm going to France in October and am trying to figure out if it's possible to buy a prepaid micro sim once I get over there. I'm looking for what carriers I should look at and what the price range will be. Anyone have ideas?

The answer is yes you can buy a Pre-Pay Sim just about anywhere in the EU, however your ATT iPhone is network locked.
Meaning ATT will let you Roam on a variety European networks , but they won't let you swap out their sim, for a local sim and allow YOU to reactivate on another network .
ATT are reticently refuse to unlock the iPhone period.

Hello. I am nearing the end of a YA (young adult/teen) thriller. I want one of my characters to be able to copy the information from a smartphone, (type not specified), onto a computer (type not specified). The information would include text messages and, ideally and importantly, emails. The character is an IT expert (I am not!). I don't need to write the details of how he would do this - I just need to know whether or not it's possible. Any help would be gratefully recieved. Supportive of Apple products as I am, I have brought yet another one home - iPhone 4. I intended to still use my well kept 3G occasionally, and thought a prepaid plan would be a way to go. However, I have just heard back from ATT, and they told me that they don't permit iPhones on prepaid plans?!
Is that not wasteful??? Anybody aware of a way to still use my 3G beauty as a phone?

And who were these "some folks"? When you got your iphone 4 & activated it, AT&T de-activated the sim in your 3G. Pop it out & pop a pre-paid sim in, you should have no trouble activating the voice part of the sim. You won't be able to activate the data part.

The iPhone does support other video calling applications such as Skype and Tango which are cross platform. The integration isn't quite as nice but they work to call non-iOS users.

Deleting on one device does not affect another device.
You can delete the App's on the iPhone and nothing will happen to the ones on the iPad.
1. You don't need to.
2. Settings->Cellular->"Use Cellular Data For" will show the data usage for each App since the last statistics reset
3. Settings->General->Background App Refresh Will show which Apps are allowed to get data in the background
4. It restricts it to Wifi. If the App requires internet access and Data is turned off, it will have to wait until the device is connected to a wifi network.
5. Nope, You just use up battery since the BT radio will continuously look for nearby BT devices.
6. The Personal Hotspot uses your cellular internet connection from your phone or other cellular device; whether you consider that secure or not I cannot say. It also depends on what you are doing while connected to the Hotel's wifi. I would not do online banking while on vacation though.
