Iphone 4 or ipad not showing in itunes 9.2 or 9.2.1

Hi. I cannot get my iPhone or iPad to show up in iTunes 9.2 or 9.2.1. The only solution is to reinstall iTunes as it shows up after installation allowing me to sync. If I then restart the computer it doesn't show again so I then reinstall iTunes so that the devices appear. It only seems to affect the iphone/ipad as my old ipod shuffle appears everytime.
Am really confused and wondered if you kind folks had any solutions as to the problem or have experienced this?
Thanks Rob

Hey guys,
I work for an Apple Authorised Reseller in Tasmania. Today we had a customer come in with his recently purchased iPhone 4 with this exact issue. Where he could get the iPhone to appear once reinstalling iTunes but once the computer was restarted or turned off and back on it would stop appearing until iTunes was reinstalled again.
I did I quick look online and found this topic with no answer. We were baffled at first but after a few routine tests like new data cable, connect to different USB, we ended up updating the customers Macbook 13" to the latest OS and any other updates available. One of those being the iPhone SDK update (don't know if this would help or not) but once we updated the lot his computer begun working without fail.
I guess all I could suggest is make sure that your computer's OS and software is up to date.

  • IPad not showing in iTunes 10.4.1

If you can help, since upgrading to iTunes 10.4.1 my iPad, or iPod for that matter no longer shows in iTunes.
I've tried turning the Mac on/off, resetting the iPad, changing the lead, changing the USB port, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.  iPhoto shows the iPad as does my girlfriends iTunes 10.3.1.
Its clearly a fault with the new software, any ideas on how it can be fixed. Many Thanks.

There may be various issues associated with updating to iTunes 10.4.1 but I was able to fix my problem with iTunes not seeing my devices. iTunes would start fine but connecting my iPhone or iPad would result in the beach ball hang. I noticed the same thing would happen if I tried to click on the MobileMe icon on the status bar so it pointed to a sync services problem. Looking in "~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices" I saw some "ErrorInfo.txt" files with "SyncDataDirectoryCorruptedException, reason = The Admin Database does not exist. It should have been created by upgradedb."
I had already reinstalled Lion to get iTunes10.4 back which didn't help so that step may not be necessary but I restored "~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local" from my Time Machine backup from the day before the 10.4.1 update and that fixed my problem.
I've re-updated to 10.4.1 and everything still works.

  • IPhone 5s will not show in Itunes 11.3 after update

    Hi Folks,
Updated iTunes to 11.3.0.54 and restarted my machine (running win 8.1).  Now when I dock the IPhone (5s running 7.1.2) it shows the 'Trust' prompt and when accepted, sounds a tone, then does nothing.  ITunes does not show any phone connected - no errors are listed in the Windows Event log.
Done all the usual things, restarted both devices, unplugged etc. but still the same issue.
Anyone have a fix for this?

Thanks TwoSeven- I had exactly the same problem with my 5S and your solutions has fixed it.  It is however appalling that we should have to suffer these problems and waste so much time and effort trying t resolve them after a relatively minor update of iTunes.
Apple - get your act together and thoroughly test your software before you unleash it on the innocent!

  • Why is my iPhone 4S dead, not showing in iTunes, won't charge after upgrading to 5.1.1???????!!!!!!!??

After upgrading my iphone 4S to 5.1.1 I had a problem... woke up one morning and my phone was DEAD!  It was completely non responsive, not showing up in iTunes, not charging from my Mophie, or A/C or Mac.
I wanted to post the fix that worked for me in case anyone else out there is having the same heart pulpitations I was this morning.  In the online communities Parisilia had posted a fix to do a hard reset  (Hold down the home button and power button simultaneously for several seconds, the phone will reboot and will then be recognized in iTunes and you can restore from backup).  This worked for me - PHEW!! Off the ledge...
Once my phone rebooted it didn't actually need a restore because it hadn't 'reset' - everything was as it was the night before, although the battery had gone from 51% to 41%  Personally I'm shocked that it would drain 10% in one night and who knows how long it was 'dead' for after I put it to bed at 11:45pm????!!
This is my second iPhone 4S since Oct 2011 - the first one had to be replaced because of something radically wrong with the battery capability.  After several very frustrating months of trying various fixes Apple finally took the phone back thinking it musta been a dud.  I've had this one for about 3 months and it's been much better battery-wise, but now the mysterious DOA event has me seriously worried that I have another dud.  Looking thru the communities there seem to be many more people experiencing the same issue, so hopefully it's software and can be fixed (APPLE ARE YOU LISTENING??) rather than me being up the creek again.
Good luck to anyone else experiencing the same issue.

    Try
    1. Totally remove iTunes and QuickTime
    see
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
    2. then you will need to do a "deep clean" of registry
by this I mean a registry search for itunes and delete any and every key you find
*however if you do not know how to do this safely don't try it*
unfortunately the registry cleaners do not clean to this level
and itunes leaves considerable detritus in the registry which can screw up updates and or reinstalls
Apple needs a cleaner similar to Norton's effort which has similar problems. Their tool removes ALL evidence of a previous anti virus installation which is what the above solution achieves in iTunes

  • TS1538 iPhone and iPad not recognized by iTunes 11.1

After an update to 11.1 iTunes stopped recognizing my iPhone and iPad. I tried everything I could find on Apple site and generated by a Google search. I tried reinstalling iTunes, restarting Mobile Device Service, uninstalling all the components - restarting and reinstalling itunes. After I uninstalled itunes and all of its components it would not install again. I finally restored my Windows to a oint when I had a previous version of itunes, library wouldnt load because it was already updated to a newer version itunes library, so I deleted it and itunes started - but, of cours, it would not read my iphone or ipad because I already had ios 7 installed. So, I tried updating to new version - couldn't update it. I don't even get any error numbers I could go off - the instlallation just rolls back and tells me that it could not be completed because of an error! What error - I have no idea. Oh, but at least this old version of itunes recognizes that I have an iphone or ipad connected! And I can open photos folder, just can't sync anything to my devices. So, I uninstall alllll of the components of itunes again - every single one of them, delete all contents of temp folder, make sure I have no trace of itunes or apple-anything on my computer, restart it and try to install itunes again - nothing, same thng - starts installing, then at one point all of the progress rolls back and says there was an error installing it. So, I make sure I have no apple and itunes programs left on my laptop, clear temp folder again, restart and restore my laptop. Install itunes, yahoo - it installs! My entire (HUGE) library of music and audiobooks - gone, BUT at least it installed itunes 11.1. SO I connect my iphone and... NOTHING! Went to device manager again - tried updating driver from a foler - error, tried scanning for changed - nothin happened, tried restarting Mobile Device Service - error, cannot restart it. Checked in control panel & I couldn't even see it in the uninstall programs, but I see it in administrative services... So I am lost, I literally tried everything I could think of myself, everything I read on apple support site and everything I found on Google.... And I know for a fact that it's the new version of the itunes, coz previous one works and I would be fine with it and keep it, if it would only read my iphone! Oh, by the way - I have no third party devices installed besides the iphone and ipad. And my WIndows updates are allll the way up to date! This issue started when I updated my itunes after the release of the ios 7.
What do I do now? Get rid of the stupid iphone and ipad??? What's the point of having them if I can't even sync my music to them!!! So upset with Apple! If I could only use their product like any android or windows phone - go to my computer, open the device and put the folders in it! But they will never give this much power to us!
Does anyone has any new ideas on what I could do to resolve this issue?
    Thank you!
PS: my husband has same problem with his iphone and ipad... on his desktop computer... So obviously - i'm not alone!

So, an update... I was able to fix my iTunes & connect my iPhone & iPad to it. All it took is a hard drive reformatting & re installation of Wondows 8. Good one, Apple! Thanks for the new iTunes release!

  • IPhone 4 does not show in iTunes on Windows

Complicated one here for everyone, I got my sister a Windows XP Pro on a Dell laptop (here in refered to as Dell) for Christmas.  She wants to use Dell to sync her iPhone 4 running 4.2.8 but when she plugs it in it is only detected as an image device, but not in iTunes.  Here are some details about what has been done so far.
Computers in use and short names:
my computer: MacBook Pro X.7.3.11D36 Dev (Macbook)
    iTunes 10.5.2 (MacTunes)
    attached to my itunes account
    running as admin
her computer: Windows XP Pro on Dell (Dell)
Started with iTunes 10.4.? updated to:
    iTunes 10.5.1 (downloaded this evening)(DellTunes)
    attached to sister's itunes account
    running as admin
When given to sister, could not import itunes libary from old windows xp computer to this one, so libary is fresh, music from the old itunes music folder
    family computer: iMac X.7.3.? (FamilyMac)
    iTunes 10.5.? (familyTunes)
    attached to sister's itunes account
    running as limited w/parental controls
    Device info and short names:
her cell: iPhone 4 Verizon running 4.2.8 (here in called 4)initiallized and formated from FamilyMac
my current cell: iPhone 4s Verizon running 5.0.1 (4s)initilized and formated on Macbook
my old cell: iPhone 3g ATT running 4.2.1 or 2 (3g)initilized and formated on Macbook
    Who works where:
4,4s,3g all initialized and last synced on FamilyMac, Macbook, Macbook respectivly
4,4s,3g all detect as normal on MacTunes
4,4s do NOT detect as normal on DellTunesDoes appear as an image device on Dell.  software built into XP, much like image capture on Mac
3g DOES detect as and has been backed up to DellTunes
Following attempts have been tried and failed
    plugged in 4 into Dell
disabled auto launch of image device software on Dell for 4
    replugged in 4
plugged 4 into Macbook, showed up as normally expected
plugged 4s into Dell, does not show in DellTunes, does auto open image device software
downloaded and installed latest iTunes for Windows XP
plugged 4 and 4s into Dell, same results as before (steps 1,2,5)
ran itunes diagnostics, all settings reported fine except for detecting plugged in ipod/iphone
manually disabled and reabled ipod support service as stated in the help document linked to in 8
replugged 4 into Dell, same results as before
set msconfig to all off except for anything itunes related.  applyed to both services and startup programs
    repeat steps 7-10
plugged 3g into Dell, shows in Delltunes as normally expected
backed up 3g to Delltunes to conferm data would transpher.  backup susessful.
removed 3g and replugged 4 into Dell, 4 gave same results as before (steps 1,2,5)
    set msconfig to normal mode
replugged 3g into Dell, looked in device manager, shows under image devices and USB devices.  Under USB devices shows as Apple moble device
switched to 4, looked again in device manager, only shows under image devices
gave up for the night and posted this
*note many times steps would be repeated a few times under both sister's account and admin's account on Dell, as well as a few reboots.
The confusing part is that the 3g works fine but not 4 or 4s.  I would understand if itunes was older than that cellphone version but iTunes is as recent as possible.  Does anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong and what would fix it?

Follow ALL of the troubleshooting steps in the article from which the question was posted.

  • Notes created on iPhone or iPad not showing up in outlook

I sync both my iPhone 5s and iPad Mini with Outlook 2007 on my computer.  The notes created on either the iPhone or iPad do not show up in Outlook, but the ones created on Outlook show up in both the iPhone and iPad.  The notes created on the iPhone do not show up on the iPad, and vice-versa.  I do not synce mail or notes with iCloud.

    More info on my problem:
I tried to connect my camera directly via USB and it too will not show up in iPhoto.
Curiously, I can pull the SD card from the camera and stick it into the SD slot on my Mac Mini and it will then show up as a device in iPhoto.  So I can import everything from my camera's SD card.
I tried importing into iPhoto from iPad, iPhoto, and camera onto my wife's iMac and everything works.
So it's definitely something on my computer that is screwing up.
    Hope someone can help.....

  • My iPhone 6 is not showing in iTunes

when starting iTunes my iPhone 6 not showing is not showing under devices

    Hello Tom,
It sounds like you are not seeing your phone in iTunes when you connect it to your computer. I would use either of these 2 articles depending on the version of your operating system:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
