IPhone 4 (Orange UK)

Well, I've made a mistake of buying a 3gs from Orange on May 2th. On a side note... Orange doesn't have any return policy!
After using the Orange website, it's acknowledged that I'm not eligible to upgrade, obviously. But it's mentioned that I can buy an additional phone (iPhone 4) to my existing contract if I don't want to wait. The issue is that... I'm just wondering how would that work...
Or is there any other alternative?
Thanks in advance!

Wrong Orange WILL SELL you a new phone however it will be FULL PRICE unsubsidised and the same price you would pay for a lost/damaged and uninsured replacement.
Currently that works out at the Pay as You Go price PLUS penalty or your BUY OUT YOUR CONTRACT and thats going to be VERY EXPENSIVE either way expect something north of £600.00.
Your best option would be to load onto your 3GS ios4 in a fortnights time and hold onto to it at least to the autumn and get some more of your contract paid back.
At the three month period Orange WILL unlock your 3GS for a fee of £20.00 and you can consider Ebaying it as an officially network unlocked iphone for several hundreds .
Do some calcs and you MAY be able to afford a Pay As YOU Go unit.
Trim you current sim and activate using your current account , storing the new sim in a draw , or using with an iPad 3G perhaps ?

    Complete rubbish
    Apple do not lock iPhones
Carriers do because they have subsidised the purchase price
and therefore only the carrier can unlock an iPhone
Orange have decided to apply 6 months to protect their revenue
they never have been the fastest to unlock

  • My phone company submitted a request to unlock my iPhone at the end of my contract and I haven't heard back from Apple for three weeks. How do I prod them to get on with it?

Hi. I finished the contract through which I got my iPhone (Orange UK) and I've waited three weeks to get a message from Apple to say the phone is unlocked so I can use it with another service. Anyone know a way of prodding them to get on with it so I can use my phone. The required 20 days (ludicrous) are up and nothing from Cupertino.

Just to clarify - When I requested my unlock from AT&T, I received an email from them that my unlock was approved.  I verified with Apple that the unlock request had been processed, and then I just had to restore my phone.  You can call Applecare at 800-694-7466 and ask them if your carrier has processed your request to unlock the phone.  If not, you will need to contact the carrier again (as Gail pointed out - it is the carrier who unlocks the phone).

Have you read the reports about how screwed up the iPhone software is? Obviously not. The E90 is a victim of bad QC (mic and software problems) and the fact that consumers such as yourself demand Nokia product a new product every few months that will perfectly delivered. Guess what. It ain't gonna happen. You want real **bleep**, go buy an SE phone and report back your finding.

Your comparison of the E90 to an iPhone shows you don't really know about either product. Vmoisa explained it to you pretty good and you still don't seem to get it. E90 = apples, iPhone = oranges. Still fruit but different tastes.

Yup. This really shows your inability to grasp technology. If memory serves correctly, Nokia has been making phones since 1991 or so, and Apple since 2007. Hmmmmm..... Who is the wannabe here?Message Edited by sapporobaby on 10-Nov-200704:41 PM

I am able to read just fine.
The problem comes when I insert (I have not even attempted Updating). I cannot push the 4000 character limit. I have been reading lots of forums and I am not able to get an answer that is not cryptic in nature. I have seen info about appendchunk but I am not getting it. You think it would be easier. I need to start from square 1.

  • WiFi Hotspot Apps (UK)

    Hi
Can anyone recommend a good WiFi finder app that works well in the iPhone 4 and in the UK? I've downloaded a couple but neither seem to work.

You didn't mention which carrier you're with in the UK. For Orange customers http://shop.orange.co.uk/iphone/orange-iphone-apps and for O2 customers search "My O2" in the iTunes App Store which should list their Cloud network of Hotspots.

Do I unlock under my itunes account first ( I now have a new iphone on this account) or set one up for her and then unlock the phone. I am worried about upsetting the new phone.

I would complete unlocking as is and then
restore as new once you know the iPhone is unlocked
Be aware Orange will process the request at their speed
one of the reasons they usually reside at bottom of User Sat surveys
    will likely take weeks

I have requested the neccessary details from Orange. And paid for it.
I have followed the instructions but the phone will NOT activate either by phone itself or iTunes.
I have tried it with an Orange card in and also a 3 card.
Its pathetic that something is made so difficult to do.
I need help with this as it is driving me mad.
I have also looked all over the internet and this is a very common probem
    Help please

Did you follow the steps exactly in the email you got from Orange
to unlock the iPhone? At the end of those steps, did iTunes give you
the message 'Congratulations. Your iPhone is now unlocked''?
If you did not get that message, your iPhone is still locked and only
    Orange can resolve the matter.
If you did get that message before the update, repeat all the steps again
to see if it will unlock now - you may have to do this multiple times for
    it to work.
What does it say when you look at Settings=?General=>About=>Carrier?

  • How do you unlock an iphone 4 on Orange/EE UK? they said they have unlocked it but what do I do from there?

Here are the instructions they gave me:
1)Insert a non-Orange 3G SIM card.  This must be a network provider who also supplies the iphone/ipad.
    2)Switch ON the handset.
3)Connect to iTunes using USB cable
4)Use the “restore” option within iTunes (located at the bottom of iTunes not the top)
5)The handset may then display: USB cable and iTunes icon.
    6)Disconnect from USB then re-connect
    7)Synchronise device with iTunes
8)Once synchronised a message will appear on iTunes stating “Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked” If using IOS5 this message will not show
9)Follow on screen set up instructions to enable new carrier settings
To me they seem a little convoluted so I wanted some help/feedback before I start to do it.

    What seems convoluted?
    Follow the directions.

  • How can I use an 02 SIM on my iphone 4s which was originally on Orange?

    Hi,
I purchased an iPhone  4S approx 2 years ago from Carphone Warehouse on Orange/EE. At the end of the 2 years I decided to leave Orange and use O2. I called up Orange to unlock my phone but they told me as the phone was purchased from Carphone Warehouse they cannot unlock it. I went to Carphone Warehouse and they said they do not unlock phones.
I've looked online and found this link :
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5014
I restored my phone and the my O2 sim does still not work. I get this message now:
    "SIM Not Valid
The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currerntly assigned by the activation server. This is not a a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information".
So now I am stumped on what to do next - it seems impossible for me to get this phone unlocked. I've spoken to market phone vendors and they are all quoting me £120 - which seems pointless.
If anyone has any advice or suggestion I would greatly appreciate it!
    Many thanks,

Jailbreaking is not done to attract malware and possibility and in most cases it is not the case. You are supposedly assuming that jailbreaking is done as jailbreakers "like malware". Your statement is wrong as in essence, jailbreaking your iPhone means freeing it from the limitations imposed on it by your carrier, whether that's AT&T or Verizon, and Apple. It lets you do everything from customizing the look of your iPhone to installing third-party applications (such as titles that are not authorized and available in the App Store) and customized ringtones on it. Depending on how far you're willing to go, you can do even more than that: Jailbreaking even lets you to unlock your phone so you can use it with a carrier other than the one from which you purchased it and in my case you can enable continuity.
The statement was in the spirit of irony. And no, I do not assume users jailbreak because they actually want malware. However, jailbreaking does indeed make the device far more susceptible to such, and it also occurs far more than you seem to think.

    Hi Gazpan,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I recommend using the steps in this article to back up your iPhone if possible:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

If you no longer have your iOS device
If you're using iCloud and Find My iPhone on the device, you can erase the device remotely and remove it from your account by signing in to icloud.com/find, selecting the device, and clicking Erase. When the device has been erased, click Remove from Account.
If you're unable to complete either of the above steps, you should change your Apple ID password. Changing your password won't remove any personal information that is cached on the device, but it will make sure that the new owner can't delete your information from iCloud.
    Cheers,
    Jeremy

    Please can you help....
I ordered an iPhone 5s in early September from the orange shop in Chamonix Mont-Blanc France.
I needed a new phone as i dropped my iPhone and broke it so it thought i would upgrade.
I was asked in the shop if I wanted a black or white one, I asked for a Black one, as all my iPhones have all been Black as I DON'T LIKE White ones. (sorry)
I was told my phone would arrive in a week so I waited with broken phone for new one. The following week I was told it would be the following week, the following week i was told the same but the assistant in the shop told me they would ring me when it arrived. Three days later i recieved a text from the shop to say the phone would be in tomorrow, when I went in they said it had not arrived and they would call me when it was in the shop.
They called me on Thursday the 17th of October to say the phone was in the shop.
I arrived at the shop at 6:00pm after my work, the shop closes at 7:00pm. I recieved the phone, signed for it and extra unwanted insurance with I was told I could only canceled in a month. I was then told they didn't have any sim cards in the shop, i said no problem the Phone i assume will need charging so i will take it home and charge it and return for the sim tomorrow.
    So the Phone remained boxed.
When I returned home and opened the box I realised it was a white one, I replaced the lid put it back in the bag, and returned it to the shop first thing Friday 18th October, to point out the error, only to be told "to bad" ?? I was told I could have changed it the night before but not this morning? They said I had ordered a Black one but as I had signed for a White one nothing can be done. I was angry and left the shop. I returned later the same day with a French friend to try and resolve this problem, as I wasn't sure if something was being lost in translation. I didn't think I was being unreasonable, it is a very expensive piece of equipment and this wasn't what i wanted. They told my friend that the phone was not available in Black, that was the 5, and that the 5s was only available in silver and gold, and that mine was a silver one.
I then thought it was my mistake as it was a new phone. She put a sim in the phone put it in the box and I left for a business meeting only to arrive and see a Black iPhone 5s sitting on the table??
So I then returned back to the shop with the Black one and mine still all boxed and untouched to prove they had blatantly lied to me an hour ago, only to be told that there was nothing they were prepared to do.
Is this fair practice ? I am at a loss with this and am looking for help ?

A minor point, but it may avoid a little confusion if, instead of saying "black" in reference to the iPhone 5s, say "space gray":

  • How to unlock iphone 4 when Orange UK provide useless customer service

Please, please can anyone help me ??
At a loss as to what to do next so hoping one of you lovely lot can help- here goes : On 16th Dec I phoned Orange UK to request an unlock code for an iphone 4. After a lengthy & very irritating call I was told it would take 20 working days & cost me £20.42....17th January I phoned Orange again as still no code- was put on hold....call abandoned after 17 minutes of waiting - phoned back, spoke to Peter who apologised & said request had been escalated & would take 72 hours max. I rang again this morning- still no code..spoke to Jessie- very helpful at the time- told me request had been escalated to Manager who would call me back this morning... Any ideas what to do next ? Am sick of phoning, being put on hold, being fed a load of ********, listening to One Direction whilst on hold, promising my son I'll sort it ......EXPLETIVES GALORE !!!!!!

    There is NO code
If Orange wish to,  they tell Apple ( electonically)to remove your iPhone from the iPhone carrier locked database that Apple maintain for Carriers worldwide
.This is the process which requires you when advised by Orange to restore the iPhone as described in this doc
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5014
and Orange UK by all accounts will make up every excuse under the sun rather than actually unlock the iPhone
