Iphone 4 People can hear me but I can´t hear them!

Huge problem!
When I call someone, or being called, i can´t hear what they´re saying. There is a silent "buzz" in very low volume, at best, but often it is completly silent. All the other speakers and with headset, it works fine. I would probably just send it for repairs if it wasn´t for that it actually works sometimes. Sometimes it´s actually working perfect, in like three minutes. Then i hear like a "click-noise", then some buzz-noise and then it´s silence. So it´s not a hardware problem.
I have seen that i lot of people have problems with the proximity sensor, but when it happens, and check on the phone, it is not on mute or something.
Has anyone else experienced this odd problem? It´s pretty frustrating.
Thanks in advance!

There are several posts about this problem already. IOS 4.2 is supposed to fix the problem.

Apple Store Genius makes all decisions regarding implementation of Warranty Coverage. Maybe you have AppleCare coverage and don't even know. If the Genius decides to cover under Warranty then it was worth taking to Apple. If Genius decides no Warranty, then replacement iPhone 4 is $149.

The iPhone screen is all black but you can hear the alarm and you can hear when it charges

The Apple store or any retailer that sales iPhones will be happy to sell you a new device.
Apple may offer an Out of Warranty replacement at a discounted cost.

IPhone 4 with Att, 3g, I can receive calls but caller can't hear me. I tried reboot and remove sim card. Help!

    Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137  For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
Test the issue after each step.  If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

Try disconnecting the headphones and then adjusting the volume, does it say headphones?
If it does, there might be something in the headphone jack, maybe lint, dirt, or something else in there.
You can try getting it out by connecting the headphones 5-10x or spraying compressed air into the jack.
If it doesn't say headphones or there isn't anything in there, try restarting or restoring the iPhone.

I can hear caller but they can not hear me except when using speaker phone

First of all,  make sure that your iPhone as the most recent iOS available. Check in "Settings>General>Software Update".
One other problem could be your microphone. Does it work for anything else other than a call?
    Good-Luck!

    Hi Yes0,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there is an issue with the mic on your iPhone because you can hear them and they can't hear you. The article linked below outlines the available resolutions for this issue.

    I hope this helps.

My carrier is Straight Talk (using ATT network) and they require the user to enter the APN settings in order to access their data network. My Iphone 4s is factory unlocked but I can not get to the Cellular Data Network tab to enter the settings?

Yes ATT hides the APN settings so when you try to use a st sim it automatically reads on AT&T network so the APN settings are hidden and cannot be accessed however you can go to apn.straighttalk.com on you'r phone and select APN/data settings then select AT&T then iPhone and a screen will pop up asking if you would like to install the profile for whatever reason it's not verified but works fine. You can also go to www.unlockit.co.nz and set up a straight talk APN profile that is verified not sure exactly what that means but both work to get the data working on the phone for straight talk but it does not make the MMS work. There are a couple other methods I have read about one is on howardforums using ibackupbot to manually change the files on the phone I haven't been able to get mine to stick using that method but other people have and there is a sim swap method to trick the phone to reveal APN settings using a tmobile sim I have not tried this but other people have with success. The last two methods mentioned will make both data and MMS work

  • I can no longer hear siri, but she can hear me.  Also I can't hear my music

I have an Otter box on my iphone, dropped it in the sink (not full and only for a split second) my ringer works, but can't hear Siri, but she can hear and answer me.  Can't hear music and can't hear when I put a call on speaker.
    Please don't tell me I need a new phone.  (I know, I know it's a 4S, but I liiiike it.)

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.

Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.
Unfortunately, the data on your phone is already gone if you're seeing the connect to iTunes logo.

  • Trouble with Skype. can't hear caller but I can see caller.

Trouble with Skype.  Caller cannot hear me but I can hear caller.  Cannot hear voice on test call.  Can see caller.  MIcrophone is on  and volume turned up.

    Michele,
I do not have Mavericks running on my older MacBook Pro. During the call, do you have the microphone icon on the Skype window enabled or disabled? Have done that before.
    My Skype preferences:
    Microphone: Built-in Microphone (Internal microphone)
        * Automatically adjust microphone settings is set
Ringing and Speakers: Built-in Output (Internal Speakers)
    Camera: Built-in iSight.
    System Preferences > Sound
    Input tab: Internal Microphone
    Output tab: Internal Speakers

I can hear caller but he can't hear me except on hands free and speaker phone, hoew to fix this problem

    Hi Shirley,
    Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

  • Can't Hear Videos, but i can hear 'em?

i have a video on my ipod that i can see but i can't hear. whats up with that?

"Can't Hear Videos, but i can hear 'em?"
    Eh?
Quicktime doesn't play "muxed" video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
You need a 3rd party converter such as Videora, or MPEG Streamclip to convert the video file.
The file must meet the following specifications to play correctly.
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
    -or-
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
Incidentally, the iPod video forum is here.
