IPhone 4 photos are only 2.0 to 2.4 megapixels

My iPhone 4 photos are only 2.0 to 2.4 megapixels instead of 5. I have downloaded them to both iPhoto and Aperture libraries and the photos are the same size in both. Is there a setting that will let me take 5.0 mp photos? Thanks.

What is the resolution of the photos?
http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm
Pixel Count, expressed as Megapixels, is simply multiplying the number of horizontal pixels by the number of vertical pixels. It's exactly like calculating area. A 3 MP camera has 2,048 (horizontal) x 1,536 (vertical) pixels, or 3,145,728 pixels. We call this simply 3 MP.
Some recent photos I captured with my iPhone 4 have a 2592 x 1936 resolution.
2592 x 1936 = 5,018,112 pixels, which is 5MP.

So this is a 2 part question:
    1) how to I backup the Photo Library to my new hard drive (as the last one was unrecoverable but previously backed up)
    2) how do I remove the Photo Library form my phone (preferably after backup in item 1)
    Thanks, Janis

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer.  As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you.  I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.
    Best.

    Correct.
On an iOS device, new photos you take will be automatically uploaded to your photo stream when you leave the Camera app and are connected to Wi-Fi. Note: My Photo Stream does not push photos over cellular connections.

  • IPhone edited photos are imported as originals

I use iphone4 (IOS 7) and MBP (OSX 10.8.5). Iphone edited photos are imported with Aperture or iPhoto as originals. How can I fix this?

The "edits" are temporary settings.  If another device such as a computer imports, the edits will not attach.  The edits become permanent when the host device (iPhone) exports the image.

No. When you restored the backup of the old computer it wiped out everything on the phone.

  • When importing  to mac from iPhone, my photos are doubling.  Does this have to do with my photo stream?  How do I stop it?

To import photos from my iPhone, I plug it into my MacBook Pro's iPhoto program.  I am now also using iCloud photo sharing.  When I import, my photos are DOUBLED.
I'm sure I need to change my settings, but I'm not sure which ones to change.  In my Phone?  In my iPhoto Preferences?  Suggestions?

This is a bug.  Just open the Camera.app on your iPhone before you plug it in and connect it by uSB. That will prevent the Photo Stream photos from showing in the Import panel as well.

  • IPhoto sort order changes on iPad/iPhone when photos are edited

I have been having issues getting photos to display in the correct order on my iPad, iPhone and Apple TV. When I go into an event I want the first photo taken to be at the top and the last at the bottom. I sort by date so that photos taken on different cameras at the same event appear in chronological order and this works very well in iPhoto on my Mac. There is a problem when I sync to my devices though. Sometimes the order on my devices is the same as in iPhoto on my Mac and other times it is not. A recent software update seems to have cured the major issue, but created another. After some experimentation I have discovered that editing a photo changes its position in the sort, even if the adjustment has nothing to do with the date.
I picked a sample event and adjusted the contrast of the first photo. There was no change to sort order on the Mac. I hit sync in iTunes and the photo now displays last on my iPhone. Go back into iPhoto, click on "Revert to Original", sync iTunes again and the photo now displays first again. Seems like a bug to me.

I also have have the same issue and have been on the phone with Apple Care....not much help I'm afraid although I do believe something is broken and requires a fix. Here is what I have found (all software up to date and latest OS BTW)....I have sorted all my pictures by Date, if I want to add a straggler I just alter the original date and all is well within the event.  I then "batch change" the event to the tile and event name. So the pictures in the event are named " Holiday 2012  1-xxx.  Again, all is well in iPhoto but when sent to an iPad or Apple TV the sort is as siwilson mentioned above.  I just discovered a temp work around for events with less than 1000 pictures, if I sort by Title I can get them to show correctly on the ATV and iPad. Now what was/is interesting is somethimes they would sort correct and sometimes not.  It turns out that if you sort the event by Title and quit iPhoto and reopen it....it has reverted back to sort by Date. It does that everytime. So what I do is turn home sharing off in iTunes (forces it to look at the photos again), open an iPhoto event and sort by Title.  Then I turn home sharing on in iTunes (leaving iPhoto open) and sync my iPad.  If I want ot stream photos to my ATV I must leave iPhoto open so the sort remains as I set it. If I want to retain the correct sort this is what I need to do each time. So this is a bandage for me until they fix things.  One final about pictures over 1000.....it sorts them as mentioned above with another twist, numbering goes 0001, 1000, 1001, 1002 etc.  @#$% why can't they just sort the way iPhoto presents them?

  • Where can i see what photos are stored on icloud

Hi i have lost some photo's from my computers hard drive!!!! arrrgh! the photo's were taken with my old iphone and orginally shared on my icloud account! How can i see what my icloud is storing????
    HELP PLEASE!!!!

Photo stream photos can only been seen on devices connected to your photo stream, not on icloud.com.  Also, be aware that photos are only kept in photo stream for 30 days.  After that they are removed from photo stream but will remain on any device that has already received them.  In other words, if the photos you are looking for are older than 30 days they won't be in photo stream any longer.  They would only be in the photo stream album of a device that has already received these older photos from photo stream.
The only other place iCloud stores photos is in a device backup.  If your old phone was backed up to iCloud and if the backup is still in iCloud, the backup should contain the photos.  However, the ony way to acces them would be to restore a device to the entire backup, including all its data, not just the photos.
Finally, if you backed up your old phone to your computer by syncing it with iTunes, this backup would also include camera roll photos.  If the backup is on your computer you can use 3rd party software such as iPhone Backup Extractor to extract the photos from this backup and avoid having to restore the entire backup to another device to access them.

  • Photos are not showing up in my photo stream

Cannot see pictures on my photo stream . It says my photo stream is empty but I have lots of pictures. All sharing buttons are on and I'vv backed it up.

Photos from your camera roll are only added to photo stream after you turn it on.  Photos in the camera roll prior to turning on photo stream are not uploaded.  Also, photos are only held in photo stream for 30 days.  After that they are deleted from your photo stream but will remain on your device until you delete them.
If the photos you are looking for in photo stream are either older than 30 days, or were in your camera roll prior to turning it on, this is why you aren't seeing them.

  • IPhone 6 photos not backing up to iCloud

My iPhone 6 photos are no longer backing up to my Photo Stream folder in iCloud. I have all the settings on my phone set correctly:
iCloud photo library (beta) is on so photos are automatically stored in iCloud.
Upload to my Photo Stream is on so new photos are automatically uploaded to iCloud
On my computer (windows 7), all iCloud settings are correct as well. Photos is checked off so photos back up.
Weird thing is, my shared folders are backing up.... It's just my My Photo Stream folder that is not backing up...
    What to do?

    Hello Lana Alana,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you are using the iCloud Photo Library beta, then your items are automatically being stored and uploaded to iCloud.  Take a look at the information outlined below to learn more.
Can I use iCloud Photo Library to back up my Photo Library instead of iCloud Backup or iTunes?
Yes. If you turn on iCloud Photo Library, it will automatically upload and store all of your photos and videos from any of your devices that are using iCloud Photo Library. iCloud Photo Library won't be part of the iCloud Backup, because it's already storing all your photos and videos in iCloud.

  • Please tell me my photos are somewhere!?

Recently got a new iPhone (4), took pix and everything for 2 months, then synced it to iTunes for the first time today. It asked something about which account I wanted to use, so I picked my prior phone's "name". When it synced, it removed all my recent pix and reloaded all my "old ones" from my prior iPhone.  Sometime in the last 2 months, I did turn on iCloud (don't think I created an account tho....is that possible)?  I know I saw an album called "Photo Stream" before.  I have one again now, but none of my new photos are there.  Anyone think there is a way to get back the last 2 mos pix? Any possibility they got "uploaded" somewhere onto my computer when I connected today?
I have never been able to find where my photos go, if anywhere, when I sync to my laptop (not a Mac) either.
    Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

The first time you connect a new iPhone to iTunes that is or was used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or set up the iPhone as a new iPhone or don't transfer the backup. This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone, not weeks or months later.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll are included with the backup. When you chose to transfer the backup for the other iPhone to your new iPhone, this replaced all data on your new iPhone with the backup for the other iPhone, which includes the Camera Roll.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera, which is not handled by iTunes.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
If you didn't do this beforehand, the photos that were in the Camera Roll on your new iPhone are gone.
You can't turn on PhotoStream without an iCloud account enabled on the iPhone. If your iCloud account was not enabled along with PhotoStream turned on when these photos were captured, and you did not import the photos with your computer prior to transferring the backup for the other iPhone to your new iPhone, the photos are gone.

  • Need to access my photos on my broken iphone 5.  Downloaded icloud on my pc and it is only recognising my ipad, but even at that no photos are being displayed.

need to access my photos on my broken iphone 5.  Downloaded icloud on my pc and it is only recognising my ipad, but even at that no photos are being displayed.

Hi Ingo2711, Thanks a million for your reply.  That's probably what it is.  Now next thing, my iphone will not switch on at all.  No water damage or physical damage.  I brought to an irepair place and he was first able to see the photos on my phone somehow but when I brought it back to get fixed he couldn't.  I have been told by a few people that it may just be the charge port or battery or unfortunately the logic/motherboard.  What is my best bet? I'm not able to afford to get it officially fixed if it can be. Any recommendations?  By the way, thanks a million.

  • Photos uploaded through icloud control panel are only synced with iphone but not with ipad

Photos which are uploaded through icloud control panel are only synced with iPhone but not with iPad. Photos taken with iPhone or iPad are synced with all devices. So, why I do not get the uploaded photos from my pc to iPad? I alredy disabled photo stream on all devices - same failure

If only one device is not getting updated data, you need to troubleshoot that device and not photostream itself.
Verify that ipad is connected to wifi, charged over 20 percent, camera app is closed and take a photo of the screen (or anything else, but then close that camera app).
Open photostream folder on that ipad and see if picture shows up. If you network is good, should not take long.
Don't forget that while your phone can use wifi and cellular (even it suppose to use wifi for photostream, cellular networks got much better since original photostream was implemented) - you ipad is probably wifi only.
If picture shows up - you ipad and photostream have no problems and you can go to other devices one by one.

  • Since iOS 6.0 only about 800 out of 1900 photos are transferred to my iPhone

Since iOS 6.0 only about 800 out of 1900 photos are transferred to my iPhone 3GS.
I used to have a similar problem with earlier versions of iO, but the following remedies cured it:
    1) In the Photo folder on my Mac cleared and deleted the cache so that when you next syned it would re-make the contents of the folder
    2) Turn off much of the content of my iPhone so that it was at least 25% empty.
Now nothings works and I get the following error message on my iPhone:
    "iTunes Sync
136 items could not be syned. See iTunes for more information."
No idea where to look on iTunes!
Can anyone help with this problem?
I have an iPad 2 using the same iOS and my photos load fine, but of course not in the right order!

Have almost identicle situation going, totally screws my day for I have appointments to keep and important calls to make...this *****

My iCloud photos are available on Apple TV and iPhone but only habout half of them show up on my laptop (windoes 8). On my old laptop I could view all photos and download etc. I tried to trouble shoot using advice here but not I can't see any of them on my laptop.

I have the same problem. One-time events are showing up everywhere, but repeating events (the majority of my schedule!) are not showing up on icloud (they do show up on my computer at home and on my iphone...)
