Iphone 4 power button is stuck down and iphone won't turn on

My iPhone 4 power button is stuck down, and it won't come back up. The next best part is, my phone is either off or dead i don't know which, and i plug it into my computer/wall charger and nothing happens.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My iPhone 4s Power Button is stuck down and it won't turn on

I tried plugging it into my computer and it didn't turn on either.

Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears. If nothing happens after holding for up to 30 seconds your phone is broken. If something other than an Apple logo appears follow the on-screen instructions.
But if you "forgot" your passcode you will have to restore your phone using iTunes. If you use the last computer you synced the phone to this will remove your passcode. If you use any other computer, or you never synced your phone, you will lose all content.

  • TS3274 has anyone had a problem with the on/off button being stuck down?  my IPad is on, but the power button is stuck down and I cannot power off

I have and IPad 2.  I realized (while travelling by air) that my power button was stuck in the down position.  I cannot power off my IPad.  Wondering if anyone has experienced the same issue and what you may have done to rectify?  I think Apple may be aware of this problem.  I stopped into an Apple store and they were not supprised, but I could  not make an appt because I was traveling and did not live in the area.  Thanks for any ideas.

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
    Thanks again!

  • My sleep / wake button is stuck down and requires a great deal of force to unlock / lock the my iphone 4. help?

The lock button is stuck dont and wont come back up. i can still lock the iphone 4 but it requires alot of force and i am afraid of breaking it. i have only had this phone for about 4 months and have had a case on it since day one. Someone please help!!

If there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation or set up Service and take or send to Apple for resolution. If no coverage, you can use virtual Lock Button. Tap Settings App > General > Assessibility > Assistive Touch > ON > tap new white screen button > Device > Lock Screen. This can even be used to turn OFF iPhone, by holding down on it. To turn iPhone ON, connect to power, charger or USB of computer.

  • The power button is stuck down

    Hello all Mac Enthusiasts,
The power button on MBP is stuck down and the slightest touch activates the computer and when is active the Shut-down menu shows up.
Should I contact apple? or is there a work around?
    Thank you,
    solar

I'd contact AppleCare as if it's a physical problem you're not going to be able to do much without opening your MBP and hence, voiding your warranty.

A few days ago my G5 started to freeze up while in use. It doesn't matter if in Safari, iTunes, Pages, etc. The cursor will not respond nor does any keystroke, force quit, escape, etc. I have to hold the power button down to shut the computer down. Then, try to restart. Sometimes restart will work and the computer will work for a while and then freeze again. Other times on restart, instead of the Apple logo at start up, I get a Zero with a line thru it, have to power off and restart again. When it does restart, the "spinning gear" takes a lot longer than normal to spin up and take me to the login screen. Have been told it may be my hard drive getting ready to fail. Have looked at disk utilities, S.M.A.R.T looks fine, "verified" and have verified disk, and repaired permissions. In case it is the hard drive, I bought external hard drive and hooked it up to Time Machine. The backing up to a long time, overnight, about 10 hours because it kept freexing up and I would have to shut down and try restarting again. Finally got everything backed up.
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!!!   Could it be my hard drive is dying? Is the the normal chain of events or is it something else???

Ok, to copy the Drive from one to another, get carbon copy cloner to make an exact copy of your old HD to the New one...

Believe it or not, anything on the Desktop uses 3 times the Resources of the Mac than if stored elsewhere, I can note a slowdown from just 30 items on the Desktop on a really fast Mac, so the less the better on the Desktop.
DW will not tell you about Bad Sectors, it's just the very best at Repair Directory damage & such.
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • My ipod touch4 power button is stuck down, i cannot turn off or on. Help?

Anyway, not sure if my question was sent, so here it goes:  My friend's G4 won't power on....the power button lights up briefly when pressed, but nothing happens....and, cannot even get the montior to power on...does the same thing.   He said it used to at least turn on, but now it's doing this.   Help!!??  What should we do??

If you are able to use a multi-meter, you can test to see if the power supply is culprit. Use the Power Mac G4: Power Supply Voltage Test  (Sawtooth G4) document to aide you in the proceedure.
If not the Sawtooth, Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet): Power Supply Voltage Test.
If a Quicksilver, use the pinout of the QS PSU connector here:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/tips/MDDps_mods/MDD_PSMods.html#update
    and a testing description here:
    http://www.jcsenterprises.com/Japamacs_Page/Blog/D275729F-09DA-4FBB-96B3-BEEEB2C 04619.html
The test description is for a MDD, but the basics are the same.
If a MDD,follow my instructions in the linked articl above.
One should also try a PMU reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1939
One should also  replace the 1/2 AA PRAM battery.
Also, check that the 20, 22, 24 pin connector is properly fitted to the motherboard, and that the wires are properly inserted in the connector. There is also a 10 wire ribbon, which goes from the motherboard to the power button board. Make sure that the ribbon is firmly connected at both ends, and that there is no apparent damage to the ribbon.
If the power supply tests good in a MDD, the power switch board could be suspect.

  • MacBook Pro (retina late-2013) randomly shut down and now won't turn on again

    My first submission on here
I recently bought a MBPR a few days ago and was working seamlessly. Today I had taken it off charge to watch a couple videos and talk to a few people online. While I was doing this, the MacBook Pro was rested on a couch so I'm certain ventellation was fine.
Then at one point it shut down unexpectedly. I was able to turn if back on, thinking it might be battery but as it booted back up I saw that it was on 65%. I then continued to use it and by the time it reach ~60% it shut down again. This time I wasn't able to boot it up again at all. I pressed the pwer button, plugged it into power and pressed it again and even tried an SMC reset. The AC's indicator LED flashed from orange to green (as it is suppoed to with SMC resets) but it would still not turn on after I pressed the power button again.
Please help, this computer is brand new and I am not sure what could have caused this.
    Thank you

I have picked up my brand new MBPR on the 4th as well, and last night restarted for the first time after software update ( mavericks ) and after 3 hours hours of grey screen with spinning wheel called APPLE who again never knows what they are talking about because they keep saying " we never heard about that " when I called about the same issue on my 17 inch 2 months ago. So I called 3 times this morning and when I let them know that I am quite " puzzled " that every time I mention a Maverick Issue suddensly my call gets disconnected, and nobody calls me back when THEY SWEAR they took notes of my call bacl number. Last call a few minutes ago, I spoke to a supervisor and talked for 45 minutes about all issues and when he expressed concern about me recording the call I told him " You guys record my calls, so where does it say where I couldn't record yours if I wanted to ? " and the supervisor hung up on me... Way to Go APPLE!!! I've been an apple devotee since I first got my apple lisa in 1984 but they have only been going to " s*** " the last 2-3 years.
So DIGGLY, do like I will this morning and return your purchase!

  • Lock/power button doesn't work and phone tries to turn itself off

So this morning i woke up and for some reason my power/lock button on my iphone 4s doesn't work, but that's not the biggest problem because there are work around's. the real weird thing is that now my phone just decides its going to shut down. It will randomly bring up the screen to swipe to shut down even when im not even holding my phone. Unfortunately my phone is out of warranty so I am getting ready to do a restore but other than that i have no idea what else i might be able to do.
    any help is welcomed.

  • MENU button doesn't work and iPod won't turn off!!

For some reason, my menu button won't work nor will my iPod turn off when I hold down the play/pause button.
I've reset it, updated it, restored it and nothing is working. I bought it in the States last year so have no idea how the warranty works or where to get it serviced since I don't live near London.
    Any help would be appreciated

Ring your local Apple dealer, My older mini done the same thing several times before it just died on me and never turned back on. So if its still covered under warrenty i seriously think you should ring apple and get it serviced to see whats wrong, it could be just a fault with the click wheel
Try letting the battery run completly dead, then put it into a Wall charger or computer USB cable and then move the hold on and off, then try reseting it by pressing the menu and select buttons at the same time.

  • My power button is stuck and I have the white screen of death!

Hello and thank you for reading this post, the answer is desperatly needed.
    What's the problem?
Okay, a couple of months ago I smashed my iPod 4th Gen screen unfortunatly. I ordered a new screen and decided to fit it last night. Upon powering the iPod only a white screen shows, I was told that I have to hold the power button and the home button for 10 seconds. One day, before the screen was broken, I pushed the power button and it got stuck down and wouldn't come back up so I have always had to use the assistive touch and plug it in whenever I would like to turn it on. Obviously, because the power button is stuck down I cannot hold it down and press the home button to reset the iPod.
Is there another way around this or is there a way to get the power button to come back out?
    Thank you

You can't backup the iPod then.
Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs and restore via iTunes:
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    or
    http://joshuabailey1997.wordpress.com/2010/09/02/recboot-v1-3/
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
RecBoot may have problems on 64X windows, then try:
Tenorshare ReiBoot – Enter & Exit iPhone, iPad, iPod Recovery Mode with a Single Click
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    Installs blootware on PC too
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If data is not in the backup then:
    - If you used PhotoStream then try getting them from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
    - Maybe you can get some info from the restored iPod via How to perform iPad recovery for photos, videos

  • Buttons getting stuck down

Since 2.0.2 (and even before I think) buttons have been getting stuck down after I press them. This doesn't happen very often- maybe once or twice a day- but this is a very major issue IMHO! Today I was in notes, looking at one of my notes (a to-do list) and I deleted a few characters. The delete button got stuck down and deleted almost everything in the note before I could get out of it. I am pretty ****** off because there was a lot of important information in that note.
Is this a known issue, and will it be fixed soon?

Have you tried doing a hard reset of the phone? (Hold down the sleep/wake button on the top right of the phone and the home button until you see the apple logo)
