Iphone 4 purchased on line in Hong Kong

I understood it's un-locked phone if the purchase was done to Apple on-line. I brought it for the use in Bangkok Thailand and can't activated the phone. Do I miss anything that prevent me from activating the phone?

IPhone 4 is not avaliable in shops yet in HK. It is only avaliable on contract from the service providers and it is still a 2 to 3 weeks waiting list. I got mine on launch day here. The only place to get it sim free is online on the apple store in HK. I saw last week instore at fortress were displaying the iPhone 4 for sell and I happened to ask if I can buy it and the sales assistance said sure but put your name down on our waiting list. Then I ask how long is the wait on the list. The reply I got was we don't know. Why don't you or get some in HK to order it online on the apple store now and by the time you get here to HK the iPhone will be delivered about the same time. More logical I think rather then have the headache of searching for it when you get to HK. By the way I ordered my free bumper and it arrived in 3 weeks via DHL. So the question is how long is a piece of string? Answer is. Who knows.

Why don't you call and ask or visit their online site. This is not Apple.

  • Can I use my unlock iPhone 4S (bought from UK) in Hong Kong?

I've heard about the GSM and CDMA carriers but not sure what they are?? So can the unlocked iPhone 4S be used internationally? I'll be travelling to Hong Kong and will get the micro SIM there.

Not for iPhone. The problem with warranty/support in India is that such is handled by the official carriers, not Apple, and they absolutely will not touch any iPhone not purchased from them.

  • Using iPhone Safari via wifi while in Hong Kong

I will be in Hong Kong and will not need to use my iPhone as a phone while there (ie- I am not getting international roaming), but wonder if I can still use Safari and mail with a wifi connection at a hotspot in Hong Kong- like you would a laptop?
    Thanks!

Yes you certainly can with no data charges but visual voicemail is downloaded to the iPhone via the cellular network only so even with data roaming off, this will not prevent the download of visual voicemail messages nor will it prevent you from receiving an SMS which is charged extra but you may not exchange SMS with anyone.
The only way to ensure no data charges whatsoever is by removing the iPhone's SIM card and placing it in a safe place which won't prevent you from accessing the internet via Wi-Fi.

But payment settle in Hong Kong
Is it possible for me to transfer the money to Apple US account?!
You can see your options here - http://store.apple.com/us/help/payments
Basically, you need to pay in US currency from an account based in the USA with a billing address in the USA.  The billing address is essential as Apple is obligated to collect sales taxes, and that will be based on the location of the USA billing address.
Your USA shipping address also has to be an actual street address in the USA, not a PO Box or secondary shipper drop off location.

  • No i-tunes songs available for purchase in Thailand and Hong Kong

I live in Thailand and also have right of residence in Hong Kong. I can't buy i-tunes songs or albums from either store because they are not made available in these countries. Why not? Copying? Neither can I use my Hong Kong credit card to buy from the UK store what I can't buy in Thailand or Hong Kong. This is crazy. I will no longer be buy the i-pod Touch I planned to give my husband for Xmas.

    Why not?
Apple doesn't have permission to make enough songs available for sale there to justify opening a music store.
Neither can I use my Hong Kong credit card to buy from the UK store what I can't buy in Thailand or Hong Kong.
You need an U.K. credit or gift card and an U.K. address to do that. The people who hold the rights to a song may be different in different countries.

  • Will I get a BRAND NEW iPhone 4 from Mobile carrier '3' Hong Kong if found to be defective on 4th day?

Bought an iPhone 4 on contract (3) few days ago and just realised there is a problem with the volume button (the '-' button can turn the volume up instead).
Does anyone know where I stand with the returns/warranty policy? I've only had it 4 days and I don't want it to be replaced with a refurb ( although they look brand new) as i've only had it for 4 days.
My friend had his replaced 7 months in, and although it came out an original box, he was told it was a refurb and only gave him the phone without the box. - I find this silly as the box and phone has a matching imei, serial
    Number etc.
Would be great for someone to shine some light on what's to come ahead and if there is such policy to return an iPhone within 7 days in HK to a mobile carrier to receive a BRAND NEW one. Cheers.

It really doesn't matter. A refurb should be completely indistinguishable from a brand new phone. If it isn't, you do not have to accept it. It is generally accepted that a refurb is better than new, as it undergoes far more detailed quality control to ensure it is good.

  • Can i charge US Iphone 3g in Hong Kong??

    Hello,
i m visiting Hong Kong, and i m wonder if i can charge
my iphone 3g, purchased in USA in Hong Kong? The power outlet is different compared to USA.

As has already been said in the thread above, the Apple USB charger is universal and will work anywhere in the world. All you need is a plug adapter.

  • Should I purchase CDMA or GSM iPhone for use in U.S. and Hong Kong/China?

I currently have an unlocked GSM iPhone 4 that I bought in Hong Kong, and have been using it in the US through Straight Talk. I love having the flexibility of an unlocked phone when I travel. Unfortunately, the GSM networks in my area are pretty spotty, and Verizon's CDMA coverage is MUCH better. Not to mention the data speed is really slow.
I'd like to purchase an unlocked iPhone 5s without a contract, and hopefully be able to use it on the CDMA network here in america, while still have GSM available for use when I travel back and forth to Asia.
The pros and cons of GSM vs. CDMA iPhones are still pretty muddy for me, but it sounds like buying a CDMA iphone would be better for my situation because I could utilize both networks when traveling, and yet have the best speed/coverage in my current home in the US.
Straight talk or Page Plus is what I'm looking to for carriers. Verizon's too expensive for me.
    Here are my questions:
    1. Does my choosing CDMA seem to be the best choice? Or are there any cons regarding purchasing CDMA that I've overlooked? I've heard people say there is no such thing as an unlocked CDMA iphone. My biggest concern is that I arrive in Asia and find that some CDMA lock prevents me from using any other carrier--CDMA or GSM. (Both networks are available there, btw.) I need to make sure I can use data and make calls when I'm there.
    2. If a CDMA iphone is the best choice for me, how do I purchase the right one without a contract? Apple store? Verizon? Straight Talk (do they sell CDMA iphones)?Canada? Ebay seems kinda risky to get an iPhone with the specifications I need.
    3. Does a CDMA iphone still have the slot for sim cards? That's how I've always switched carriers when in Asia.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know that StraightTalk disabled their iphone's GSM capabilities. Guess I won't be going there to buy one.
    A few follow-up questions...
So is a SIM slot only used for GSM? This is something I never knew. I assumed for any network (GSM or CDMA) that a new sim card was the way you changed numbers/networks.
I've heard people mentioning that they've been able to buy Verizon iphones and use them on PagePlus, but this information was a year or two old, so perhaps things have changed with the newer models/carrier contracts. Do you know of any people who have had success in using a Verizon iPhone 5s on the PagePlus network?

  • Can you charge the iphone 5 in Hong Kong without a converter?

I purchased the iPhone 5 and am working in Hong Kong.  I was using an iGo to charge my iPhone 4 but, of course, there is no tip available for the iGo yet.  My question is whether I can use the wall plug that came with the iPhone 5 to charge the phone overseas?  I have the adapter plug but am not sure whether or not I need a voltage converter also

Whatever you use to safely charge your iPhone 4 will be fine for iPhone 5. Readily available charging stations are the USB ports of computers.

  • US Iphone 4 failed in Hong Kong - Service Help Please

    Greetings Gurus,
I just started a 3-week international tour with my iphone 4.  I'm in Hong Kong, then Singapore, then Amsterdam.  My iphone 4 died last night.  It just cycles between the boot-up apple and the "slide to open" screen about every 2 seconds until the battery runs down.  It does not respond to screen touch input at all, even when the slider is visible.  I was hoping that letting it totally discharge would reset it but applying power just starts the same cycle again.
I do not see any genius bar options in Hong Kong...still need to check Singapore and Amsterdam.  But I need my phone now.  Anyone have any ideas for help or service?  Anyone seen this problem before?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

I'm from Scottsdale too.  Here in HK for the first leg of my trip.  I found an international support number for HK on the Apple support site.  They told me the same thing.  I did the factory restore and all seemed to be working.  But when it was done, it did the same thing.
    Also thanks

I would feel totally bummed and actually quite PO'd if I cannot get service.  Apple should Fed Ex me a new phone if repair service is unavailable.  This one was a new replacement as of about June 3 for a separate hardware problem on my first one.  I'm paying a monthly fee to Verizon for a phone that doesn't work (violins playing in the background).
Any more suggestions at this point would really help.
    Thanks

  • How can Hong Kong addresses be displayed correctly in Contacts?

The address format used in China is the reverse of that used in the West, with the country displayed first and with the street address on the last line. Hong Kong is politically part of China, but uses the Western address format. Unfortunately, on upgrading to Mountain Lion all addresses showing Hong Kong as the Country were arbitrarily assigned the Chinese address format resulting in them displaying upside down. Apple needs to eliminate this.
One can manually correct wrongly displayed addresses by changing an individual address format to a non-Chinese format, but why should we have to do this to correct a mistake by Apple?

A typical Hong Kong postal address has the following lines and
    fields:
    Room/Flat, Floor, Block
    Name of estate/village/building
    No. and name of street/road
    Name of area/district
    Country (= Hong Kong)
There are no postal codes in Hong Kong.
    Any questions, let me know.

If Fortress is an authorized reseller for the iPhone, then look here:

If Fortress is not authorized to sell the iPhone, then you will need to ask Fortress about getting your iPhone services.

  • Can I purchase simlock free iPhone 5 in Hong Kong and later use it in the Netherlands?

I'll be in Hong Kong for about 1-2 weeks or so and would like to buy the new iPhone 5. Will this iPhone work in the Netherlands or Finland?
And is the only way to purchase a simlock free iPhone 5 through the website?
Can I reserve today (26th Nov) even though I'll be arriving in Hong Kong in 3 weeks? (They say if its available you'll get the info to pick it up the next day)
Is there a big chance that the iPhone will be out of stock, mid/late December?
    Thankss

Have a look here I can't determine whether Apple HK sell
unlocked iPhones which is what you must Buy
Generally if unlocked is available it is
ONLY Apple that sells them either on the street or through their online store
The warranty is NOT international so if you have any issues the
iPhone will have to be returned to HK
