IPhone 4: "required disk could not be found" message

Hi everyone,
Last night I started having a weird problem that's never come up for me before. When I plug in my iPhone 4 to my computer, it goes through all the syncing stages normally, but when it gets to the 7th and final step, "transferring purchases from iPhone," at a little under half on the progress bar I get a message saying Attempting to copy to the disk "" failed. The required disk could not be found.
If I'm trying to add music to my phone at this point (which I do manually), they will not sync up, but if I unplug the phone and plug it back in, the songs instantly appear on the phone (although the same message will come up again). I've read some other solutions on here to similar problems, and here's what I've tried so far to no avail:
Updating phone to iOS 6.1.2 (iTunes is 10.6.3)
deleting the app "cinemagram" (because this is the app it claims to be transferring when I get the message...which in itself is odd since it's one of the first I put on my phone)
restarting phone
switching USB port to back of computer rather than external hub
switching USB cord to a newer, less worn one
Any other ideas???

Try to restore your phone without using your backup and set it up "as new iphone" , your backup may contain damaged files.
Did you reset the sync history in iSync? Install itunes again? If yes, try this:
Backup itunes library.http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1382
Create a new user account and log in. This will give you a new calendar, so set up at least one contact and one event to be able to merge your data. Disable automatic sync in itunes. Backup your phone manually, your phone will be wiped but you can get back your data from the backup you made before. Try again to sync your phone.

  • The required disk could not be found.

Attempting to write to the disk "iPod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.
The iPod "iPod" could not be synced. The required disk could not be found.
Why is this happening? I've tried just about EVERYTHING to fix it. It happens when I sync my iPod. I've followed just about any relevant topics on the apple support site, but nothing helps. I've shut down any software, done the 5 r's, even reformatted my computer. I don't understand.

You should check your USBs to make sure there is nothing wrong with them.
Plug your iPod into the USB you would usually use for a regular charge.
(In Control Panel, due to versions of XP, you might not see the same interface as other users, in the top-left corner there should be a link that says "switch to classic view." This will give the same interface, regardless of what version of XP you are using.)
On Windows XP, go to Start>Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>System>Hardware(tab)>Device Manager
Here you can check for updates, install/uninstall USB drivers, and preform diagnostics on your drivers.
Under your current computer, select the drop-down menu for Universal Serial Bus controllers. Depending on the Firmware of your Touch, under the USB controllers it will either show up as Apple Mobile Device USB Driver or Apple USB Mass Storage Device. Right click on Apple Mobile Device USB Driver and select "Update Driver" on the drop-down menu. This will give you the Hardware Update Wizard. Select Yes, this time only. Choose "Install the software automatically." (This option should alreasy be highlighted) Let the search finish. If updates are found, install them. If not click the back button on the bottom middle-left. Choose "Install from a list or specific location. Choose the "I will select the driver to install." In the install box, Apple Mobile Device USB and Digital Still Camera should pop up. Press next and let the wizard intstall updates. Click finish. Try to let your iPod charge for a while after this.

If you have moved the file that had the pix in it to a different spot, you will have to choose the file again under the iPod photo syncing option on iTunes. Otherwise, I don't know what to do...
    Hope that helped you..

  • Time Machine error "The backup disk could not be found"

I use Time Capsule with Time Machine, Lion OS and manage to setup successfully. However after I on it for few hours, there is backup error. Time Machine error message "The backup disk could not be found." But the internet wifi is working normally.
To solve this issue I have to power off and on it again, then the disk can be detected. But after few hours same thing happen again.
Is it a hardware faulty or sometime that cause the Time Capusle harddisk to sleep after sometime?

I have this exact same problem.  When I restart the Time Capsule I can then start backups normally, but it requires manual intervention.  That's dissapointing because Time Machine and Time Capsule are supposed to be an automatic, worry free backup.  I have to restart the Time Capsule frequently.  Annoyed.

  • Bootcamp: installer disk could not be found - but MAC desktop can see it

    Hi,
I have an iMac intel - 17" 1.83 GHz that I put together from a box of junk. Mechanic friend took it all apart, don't ask. Installed a new hard drive of 1 terrabyte. The internal optical drive does not work so we got a new Iomega optical drive that works just great.
We want to run Windows XP Pro on this iMac - and after updating all of the software in Mac (OS 10.5.8), and running Bootcamp set up assistant, partitioned the drive to 500 GB MAC; 500 GB PC, got this error message saying that the Windows XP installer disk could not be found.
The disk appears on the desktop. I can click on it and see all of the pc files in it. I clicked on a couple of the files and got a simple text document of gibberish. But the set up assistant in Bootcamp still doesn't recognize the disk. So I have been unable to install Windows.
The disk itself is a burned copy from my university that gave me a full license for Windows XP Pro, SP 3. It's 32 bit. And it shows up as an install disk when I pop it into a PC.
I've run Disk Warrior and Disk Utilities to repair permissions and to check that the new hard drive is ok...and it's all set.
I wonder if this is because of the external dvd drive that I'm using. I can use my Macbook Pro and get the imac into target mode. But don't know if this will have me continue to bark up this tree.
Has anyone had success with the same kind of problem that I'm not facing? Thanks much in advance.
    Sheila

I too got a version of Windows 7 64 Professional from the the Microsoft Software Distribution Network through Uni. I burnt the iso file on a PC to a DVD with power ISO and then tried to use it as the install disk. After some umming and arrhhing Mac OS X recognised it, the installer started, allowed to select language etc, then suddenly a box appears announcing that a required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing.
I have rang up apple support and they are pretty much saying it is a disc quality issue, but I have checked all the disc drive regimes and permissions and they all seem to be fine. I have also done it with multiple brands and a number of times, everytime the same message returned. All the latest firmware has been downloaded. One thing that was briefly mentioned by the guy at Apple support was that there was the possibility that it may be the "logic board". So the previous poster may be right. They said this was unlikely, but everything is possible. The drive works for everything in the OS X side though, so has pretty much stumped me and the Apple support people. I think the only option is to take it to an Apple shop and let them see it for themselves, not really an option for me as I need the Mac Book to write my dissertation, due in about three weeks so can't afford to lose it.
Sorry if I have slightly "jacked" the thread, but the issue sounded pretty close to mine. Any resolution or insight into what might be the issue would be amazing.
    Regards,
    Duncan

  • AE CS6 won't export MP4. "Some of the required components could not be found."

After Effects CS6 (from Production Premium) running on 64-bit Windows 7 Enterprise SP1.
    Processor: Intel Core i7-3930K CPU @ 3.20GHz
AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series video card
    64 Gb Corsair Ram (DDR3)
    Quicktime 7.7.4 Installed
Currently attempting to export a short (2 second) video based on the predefined "H.264" preset with the only alterations being that I want the VBR 1 Pass to target 3.5Mbs (though I've changed this with no difference in outcome) and I want the video to multiplex as MP4. I immediatley get the error prompt: "Some of the required components could not be found."
*Just tried using the 3GPP multiplexer and received the same error message. If I try to use the MPEG4 format I get an "unknown exception" error.*
I've exported literally hundreds of items as H.264 with a MP4 multiplexer on this machine with current hardware and software. And now...no dice. After Effects boots correctly (or at least it seems that way) though I think it takes a little longer than it used to (not sure if the system cache just needs to be rebuilt).
After Effects CS6 has all available Adobe updates. Quicktime 7.7.4 is also up-to-date. Video Card driver is up-to-date.
What could be going on? I'd prefer to skip re-installing this program. I've had to do this numerous times already with this suite throughout the past 12 months; really getting sick of the down-time during reinstall. Worth noting that I have closed the program, closed all programs, restarted computer multiple times.
I am currently going through my Adobe program files for After Effects. I am specifically looking through the 'Support Files' directory. A couple interesting things: 1. My 'MediaIO->Codecs' directory was last updated on 11/8/2013 (perhaps an AE update??) but each of the files within said directory have a last modified date of late September. Did something get wrongfully deleted in the hypothetical update? 2. In 'Media Core plugins->Common' I again have a last modified date of 11/8/2013, but again each of my files within the common directory were last modified late September. I have many expected .prm files but NO ImporterMPEG4.prm; should I have a MPEG4 specific importer file, or does the MPEG importer file do all of the work. Also, I have no ExporterMP4 (or anything of the MPEG, MPEG2, MPEG4 flavor). Should I have one of these?
Don't know if this last paragraph helps at all but my fingers are crossed.

Thanks Katrina for all your help.
I talked to an Apple tech support person. Actually, my call had to be elevated to the next support level. Joy. You are correct, there are multiple listings of the files in the error report even though there is only one copy.
The support person had me do a few things. Here is what eventually seems to fix things:
    1) For the mp3's that DID copy but were listed as not found... Some files were duplicated so deleting the duplicate with the "!" was an easy fix. I found one file that I could search by song name in iTunes but could not find it by song name search on the iPod. Looking at the iPod playlist I found the file listed by the filename (not song name) and the file played fine. Then in iTunes I double clicked on the song name ("!" showing) and selected locate. I then pointed to the location on the NAS. Resync and now the name of the song on the iPod changed from filename to song name. The file was no longer listed in the error report.
    2) For the m4a files that didn't sync... the problem songs appeared three times in a search in iTunes. Two of the listings showed the "!" next to the name. I deleted these two for each song that didn't sync and all transferred fine afterward.
Perhaps there is an issue with ID3 tags since I use filenames more than tags in organization. Still, I would think that iTunes would not get so confused or be a little more friendly with its errors, especially considering how long its been around.
Thanks again for your help. Looks like I have a manual way to correct this issue.

  • My iPod cannot be synced because the required file could not be found.  How do I fix this problem?

Peace.  My name is Free.  Thanks in advance for any help u can offer.  My iPod cannot be synced because the required file could not be found.  How do I fix this problem?

    Hi antiklady,
I see that you may be having an issue with compatibility of iTunes when connecting your iOS device. This sort of issue can arise if you have two versions of iTunes installed on your computer, which I feel may be the case. Here is an article that can tell you how to identify the version of iTunes that you have open:
iTunes: How to find which version you are using - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201521
If the version of iTunes that is opened is not the version you are required to use for the iOS device in question, try searching through your computer or applications folder to see if there may be two versions of iTunes installed on your computer. Then, uninstall the version that is incompatible using these steps:
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support

Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

    Hello WGT52,
It sounds like this error message is preventing you from syncing your content to the iPod. I would recommend the troubleshooting steps in the following article:

  • Installer Disk Could Not be Found

I tried to install Windows 7 RC on my Boot Camp Assistant, but after I click "Start Installation", the message "Installer Disk could not be found" appeared.
    Note:
The disc is recognized already, i.e. I could see the DVD appearing on my desktop.
I downloaded the 64bit ISO, and burnt it into a DVD.
Any idea in the solution to troubleshoot? Thanks!

I have the same problem only with the 32-bit ISO. Is there a way I could do the installation from an SD card or an external hard drive? Or, is there a way I can boot from the DVD I burned?
I used a DVD+RW disc if that makes a difference. I will try burning the ISO image at half speed as I've seen recommended in other topics.
I burned the ISO image to the DVD using the MacBook Pro if that makes any difference I can try burning it from my HP laptop when I get back home next week.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS, my account is identified as an Admin when I look at it in the System Preferences > Accounts.
