IPhone 4 requires Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later..

Problem. I plan on pre-ordering the iPhone 4 (currently have the iPhone 3G) but the tech specs say that on a mac it requires the operating system to be v10.5.8 or later..I have an old iMac G5 and have v10.4.11 and obviously don't see a reason in upgrading because I'm going to be getting a whole new set-up next year.
What kind of problems will this have for me, having such an outdated operating system, if any?

I have a similar problem in that I have the original intel-based imac, and have just bought the new iphone4, making the false assumption that I should have no problem syncing it with my mac. Now find out that it requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later, wheras I too have 10.4.11
I don't see any reason why apple have made the iphone incompatible with tiger as it can even sync with windows xp which released way before OS X 10.4.11, and is way slower and buggier! It's really quite annoying as as far as I'm concerned my mac is still high performance, works very well and I wasn't planning on upgrading for another year. This is really frustrating as it means I'm going to have to fork out more money on a new operating system having just spent £500 ($750) on the iPhone.
The computer however does recognize the phone as an iphone4 charges it, and CAN import photos into the iPhoto library. However no syncing with iTunes or iCal!

You have already seen that you cannot load the new iTunes into your 10.5.8, so as Neil says, you need Snow Leopard (current cost £14).    And you'll probably need to update the disc you buy via the combo update, though that is free.
As far as the new iTunes is concerned, there's been a certain amount of grumbling so you may want to study the forums before you update.   The main problem has been with album artwork which does not transfer easily.

Hi, I have a mac 10.3.9 and I had a older version of quicktime (don't remember wich one) and I downloaded that quicktime for Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later. Unfortunately I can't hear the sound when I download long movies thrughtt websites such as http://www.cityofanime.com. It works for short movie trailers and such but not for long movies so is there anything I need to upgrade to make quicktime work the sound properly because it really is anoying to just look in the picture but not hear anything for 30 minutes.

What kind of software I need to download for the 10.3.9 quicktime for the sound to work? Please I want to know if you know.

  • How to use iPhone 4 on Mac OS X v10.4?

My Macbook is the version Mac OS X v10.4.11, and I just bought a 32G iPhone 4 today, but when I connect it to my Macbook, it says it has to work on Mac OS X v10.5.8 or higher version, which I don't have. If I can't connect the iPhone with my Mac, the iPhone turns out to be useless! So what can I do, for sure I can't afford a new Macbook anyhow! Someone please help me out!

  • Mac OS X v10.4 installed on one drive & Mac OS X v10.5 installed on another

In my Power Mac G4 (MDD) I now have 4 drives installed: 2 x 250GB & 2 x 80GB with Mac OS X v10.4 installed on one of the 250GB drives. I would now like to install Mac OS X v10.5 on the second 250GB drive.
Is this possible? I think so, but I am not sure and can find no relevant reference.
The reason, of course, is to be able to continue to run some of my old Mac OS 9 software using "Classic" inside Mac OS X v10.4; this is NOT possible with Mac OS X v10.5 or later. And, of course, lots of new software requires Mac OS X v10.5, so I would like to maintain BOTH operating systems.
My Power Mac (MDD) has a single 1.25 GHz G4 processor 2GB of RAM, and obviously lots of free disc space.
    Any suggestions or recommendations?
    Thanks

I have the same G4 MDD with 4 HDs installed. I have Leopard, Tiger & OS 9.2.2 installed. I can boot into Leopard, Tiger & OS 9, and run classic apps while booted in Tiger. No temp problems. What you want to do is OK.

  • Ipod nano on Mac OS X v10.4.10?

I'm planning to buy a 4th generation ipod nano, but I've read that you need to have Mac OS X v10.4.11 or later for this nano. I have Mac OS X v10.4.10, so you think it is still possible to run this 4th generation ipod nano?

If you run Software update on your Mac you should be able to update your OS to 10.4.11. Incremental updates are free and since you are already running 10.4.10 I can't see any particular reason your computer won't run 10.4.11.

  • How do I update from Mac OS X 10.6.8  to Mac OS X 10.7.3 or later?

I recently purchased and tried to install Quickbooks 2013 on my iMac. During installation I received a popup stating that I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 and the application requires Mac OS X 10.7.3 or later. Please advise what update I should download or purchase. Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Instead of upgrading to OS X Lion (OS X 10.7), first see if your Mac is compatible with Mountain Lion > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
If it's compatible, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. While Mountain Lion is downloading, make a backup of your files and check if your applications are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com When the download finishes, the installer will appear, so follow the steps to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion

  • How do i install mac os x v10.6 so I can update itunes for my iphone 5

So I have an older white macbook.  I am using mac os x v10.5.8.  I need to update my os version to 10.6 so I can install the newer version of itunes in order to plug my iphone 5 into itunes.  I can't seem to find the 10.6 download.  Please help.

To sync an iPhone 5 you need iTunes 10.7 or later.
To use iTunes 10.7 or later on a Mac, you must be running OS X 10.6.8 or later.
To upgrade from OS X 10.5.8, you must first buy Snow Leopard on DVD.
Snow Leopard is not available to download from any legitimate source.
    Online (US): http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Online (UK): http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Elsewhere: call the phone number in the Apple Online Store
    Apple's price is $19.99 or £14.00.
Make sure your system meets Snow Leopard's requirements:
Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" System Requirements
To install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
    An Intel processor
An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing
At least 1 GB of memory (RAM) (additional RAM is recommended)
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
At least 5 GB of disk space available, or 7 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools
After you install Snow Leopard you can decide if you want to upgrade OS X to the latest version, Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is available in the Mac App Store, which is available to you after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
