IPhone 4 restore from backup loop?

So the other day I accidentally deleted all the texts to my girlfriend. So i read about this on the internet and it told me to back up the iPhone and restore from the backup to get my texts back. So I tried it and after i restored from the created backup, the iPhone was backup to normal, except all my apps and music was missing. So i went to iTunes to sync it to get everything back, when i realised iTunes was back at the "set up as new iphone or restore from backup" screen again. So i clicked restore from backup and selected the backup again and it did its business. Then when it was finished it returned to the "set up as new iphone or restore from backup" screen yet again! This now happens everytime I try restore from the backup. I've put the iPhone into restore mode and resored the 5.0.1 firmeware many times, but when i click on restore from backup, it does the same thing as above. I've made sure iTunes is the latest and run the diagnostics but everything up to date and working. Please help, i do not want to lose my messages or have to set the iPhone up as new.
Any help is appreciated
Thanks in advance

The iPhone Backup Extractor extracts data from iPhone backups. As such, so long as the last backup was taken before the data was deleted, it will recover your information automatically. However, if the data was deleted before your backup was taken, it makes sense that the backup won't contain your data. Fortunately, Apple don't purge deleted data from their database files, so it is often possible to recover some deleted SMS, note and contact data. By extracting the SQLite databases from your backup in Expert mode, and opening them in Notepad, you should see fragments of any data that has been deleted. This isn't the easiest way to recover data, and reassembling contact information isn't easy, but it's better than losing the data altogether!

  • Backing up an iPad/iPhone and Restoring from Backup

To preface this post, I have always had Apple products and currently own an iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro. I have also spent about 4 hours on the phone with Apple support staff and they recommended I make a post on the Apple Support Forums.
Basically, this is a warning that when you backup your iPad or iPhone, Apple only backups contacts, notes, photos, calendars, and mail.
According to the third representative I spoke to, Apple does not, I repeat DOES NOT, actually back up music and playlists in your iTunes on your devices or backup the apps you have on them.
I had to get my iPad replaced because the smart cover was corroding and I did a full backup before I brought my iPad in to the Apple store. When I tried to restore from backup, everything but my iTunes libraries and my apps reappeared. For most, the iTunes wouldn't matter, but I was using a newish computer and had not yet organized my music library, although I had transferred all the songs back from an external drive. The apps are always a pain, since you have to manually download all of the ones you want after going to your purchases in the iTunes store.
However, a helpful thing I did learn, despite the fact that all my music from my iPad was gone, was that you can restore old playlists by quitting iTunes and going to Finder > Home > Music > iTunes and selecting iTunes Music Library.xml and dragging it to the desktop. Then you open iTunes and click File > Library > Import Playlist and select iTunes Music Library.xml from your desktop.
Anyway, this is one of the first times I have been thoroughly fed up with Apple: if their policy is to not back up music or apps when a user clicks backup, then they need to make it clear. Before I restored from backup, those files appeared in my iTunes as if they existed, although according to my Apple representative, they never did.

All the information about what gets backed up is available from Apple.  Here's the article explaining what is contained in iTunes backups (see "iTunes will back up the following information"):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
Most people will not have the unfortunate coincidence that you had wherein you wanted to restore a backup because your iPad needed replacement and simultaneously had an issue with your computer that had been storing your music.
So although the iTunes backup does not contain your music, you could subscribe to iTunes Match as described here and get that music all stored in the iCloud for you.

    I hope this helps.

  • CANT GET MY BACKUP iPHONE TO RESTORE FROM BACKUP

I had to take in my everyday iPhone 3G 16G to get it replaced under warranty. I backed it up before I took it in,and then tried to do a restore from backup to my spare iPhone 3G 8G. It will transfer all of the contacts, text messages, calendar, and such, but it wont transfer my apps to the backup 8G iPhone. Some of the apps arent available anymore and I dont want to lose them. What can I do? I hear people have this problem a lot.
Also, how do I back up the iPhone im using to keep anything recent so when I do a restore to my new iPhone that I get back? Is this possible?
    Thanks!!!!

How does not being able to transfer the apps from your iTunes library to your spare iPhone equate to losing the apps?
People do not have this problem a lot. There is no device limit for the number of iDevices that can be synced with the same iTunes library and iTunes account on the same computer.
Which firmware version was your 16GB running and which firmware version is your spare iPhone running? That can affect the apps in your iTunes library being installed on the iPhone.

  • IPhone not restoring from backup

When I try to restore my not jailbroken iphone 4 from a backup on itunes, it completes about 70% of it and then stops.  The progress bar stops moving, and I have left it overnight and when I come back it hasn't progressed at all.  I have tried it multiple times from multiple backups done on different dates.  What should I do?

Sorry, there is no way to preserve your data. The restore from backup process is all or nothing.

  • IPhone 5 Restore from Backup apps won't sync

I had to reinstall IOS 8 and then restore from backup.  The restore works fine.  When the phone is syncing, at step 5 it says "Syncing apps".  It gets stuck at number 2.  No errors, just sits there.  I have let it sit for 10 hours.  This happens if I restore from a local backup or from iCloud.  My phone is working now, but has no apps, no content, etc.

I had this exact problem when setting up my new iPhone 6. My solution wasn't pretty as I went through and clicked off install for all the apps, got a successful sync without apps then clicked them all back to install and synced again. I got all my apps installed, but lost all my folders and had to redo organizing over 350 apps into folders.

  • Should I set up as new iPhone or restore from backup 3GS to 4S?

Just got my 4S and I'm upgrading from 3GS.  Should I set it up as a new phone or should I restore from iTunes backup during the 4S setup?  I want to keep my contacts, apps, etc.

I just messed mine up by setting it up as a new phone. Restoring from backup is supposed to copy over all your apps, preferences, contacts, texts etc. to your new phone,

  • IPhone 3GS - Restore from Backup = "No Service"

I'm trying to help someone troubleshoot a 'No Service' problem on their unlocked iPhone 3GS (OS 4.01, Modem Firmware 5.13.04).
It's the strangest thing... about 4 days ago (seemingly out of the blue) the phone gave a "No Service" message.
I initially tried most of the obvious things described here.
I then backed up the phone and did a clean restore. It works 100%
But as soon as we restore from the backup it goes back to "No Service" message
I assume there's something in the backup that's corrupting Network Carrier settings.
Anyone have an idea how to solve this?

I had the exact same problem. Try turning airplane mode on then off again. If it doesn't work, see the link below.

  • I am syncing my iphone for the first time and I do not know if I should select set up as a new iPhone or restore from backup of my iPod? Can someone help?

I have never had an iPhone before and I want to make sure I can share my music correctly without erasing anything.

If you want to have the music and apps in your iPhone, i suggest setting up from backup.
You can also always manually install them back even if you do a set up as new.

  • ICloud icon next to ALL my songs on my iPhone after restoring from backup on iTunes

i recently just had my iPhone back after having it repaired. I made a backup on my Mac before sending it away. Now after waiting for it to restore itself and even watch it download all 1800 songs, none of them will play unless i download them from iCloud. I dont understand why as it's never done this with my music before. I dont have iTunes Match and i dont recall ever storing any of my music to the cloud - just my mac. I am not really prepared to go through my entire list of songs and download them separately, so any suggestions as to why it's suddenly decided to do this and how to sort it? everything else from the back up is working fine and is the same as before. thanks!

    Hi BeeRai,
If your music is not showing up locally on your iPhone, even if you do not have iTunes Match, you may want to try turning of the iTunes in the Cloud settings as described on the following page, then resyncing if necessary:
Just show music that’s been downloaded from iCloud. Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music.
Remove iPhone from your list of “iTunes in the Cloud” devices. In iTunes on your computer, choose Store > View Account. Sign in, then click Manage Devices in the “iTunes in the Cloud” section.

I recently moved to Australia and received a new iphone with a local AUS number. I have a backup of my US iphone in the icloud. Question: when I activate my new AUS iphone which option should I choose - new phone or restore from backup?  I would like to have all my contacts, email, etc. however wasn't sure that option was appropriate since it is a different/new number and a new phone.

Yes, as new iPhone then restore from backup.

  • Hello. I have updated my iphone 4 to ios7 after doing a backup to itunes. I am caught in a loop of being asked to 'restore from backup' as part of setup and that restore failing because the phone already has it's content I believe. Please help if you can.

Hi. I have an iphone 4 that I have just installed ios7 onto. I had backed up the phone prior.
After the software install the phone rebooted and showed the 'Hello' setup. I am stuck because as part of the setup it asks me to 'restore from backup via itunes". I dont understand why i need to do this as I thought the ios7 install procedure would restore the phone with it's content.
I tried to restore from backup but it says I cant because there is not enough space on the phone. If I connect the phone to itunes, it shows that the phone has all my content, especially since iphoto launches and I can see all the photos it wants to download to iphoto off the phone.
I am caught in a loop. My phone has it's content, but the startup procedure on the phone will not let me progress until I have restored from backup via itunes. But it cant because the phone has no space!!
The only other option it gives is 'Set up as new phone".
    Can anyone help please. Thanks.

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup.  If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup.  You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone.  However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.
