IPhone 4 restore taking too long

I'm restoring my iPhone 4 (after it failed to take on the 4.3.2 software update and was restored back to factory setting at the apple stroe). I chose the option to restore it back to the most updated backup, which was a night ago. It had about 22gb of music (mostly), pics and apps (no video). I'm now in the 4th hour of the restore and the bar says there are 6 hours remaining. Is that normal? Should I disconnect the phone and try again?

Isn't this appalling,  Nothing to do with the size of your library or how many apps you have downloaded I feel.
I have a brand new iphone 4 with NO music or contacts or apps installed. I made the mistake of clicking "update to 4.3.3.almost 3 hours ago - and so far - in spite of having paid a small fortune for this supposed wonderful  device - I am yet to make one single phone call.
The progress bar doesn't seem to be moving and I don't know whether to just unplug the thing or whether to leave it a while longer.
What a nonsense. At least my Nokia works.

iphone 5 16 gn black my iphone is taking too long to download apps from apps to download on my iphone so please help from overcoming this problem
i just want to know this is the normal behaviour or it is some kind of problem

You have to turn on 3G/4G/LTE and be in a coverage area for such to happen.
    Or connect to wifi.
Normal behavior for Edge is very very slow.

  • ICloud restoration taking too long

I went from an iphone 4s to 5s; backed up from  icloud, but after a full 24 hours, it's not complete- is it stuck?  Is there something I can do? Should I just wait?

How long it takes to restore from an iCloud backup will depend on how much "stuff" you have to restore and how fast (or slow) your Internet connection is.
If you still have the 4S and it hasn't been wiped, it might be more effective to back it up to your computer using iTunes and restore the 5s from that instead.

  • IPad 1st generation full factory restore taking too long

    Hi,
I have a first generation iPad 16gb wifi running iOS 5.1.1, it was running extremely slow even after a back-up restore. I then took the decision to do a full factory restore, however it has been stuck on the blank screen with the spinning circle for the past 3 and half hours.
My question is, is this normal - should it take that long???
    Thanks

No, it should not take that long.
When you can check to see how much available storage space there is.
    Settings > General > About > Available
Not enough free space could be why it's so slow.  (less than 500MBs)
If you can't restore your iPad, take it in for service >  Apple - Find Locations
An iPhone 4 vs first gen iPad...  same iOS but different hardware.

  • ICloud restore taking too long

I just got my iPhone 5 and it's been restoring from iCloud for about 5 hours and the bar has barely moved.  Is something wrong?

  • Restore Taking Too Long

I visited my local "genius bar" after my 3Gs kept locking up a couple of times a day. They recommended I restore to factory defaults after back-up. I followed the instructions here:
    http://cellphones.about.com/od/howtoguides/ss/restore_iphone.htm
Pretty straight forward it seems but restoring from the back-up it had just done the process, is taking forever. The "Time Remaining" status bar was down to " about 3 minutes" now it is 23 minutes and climbing. Anyone help me out here?

Maybe your backup is corrupted somehow..
Try restoring it as a new phone but you will lose SMS, Pictures taken with your camara, etc.... everything that can't be sync.

Can I back up my iPhone 4S to my ipad 3 (64 gb)?
    no

However, now I don't have enough space in iCloud to backup either device. Why not?
iCloud only give so much space for free storage, then if you exceed the limit of 5gb you have to pay for additional storage.

  • HT4736 Taking too long (2 minutes) to locate and download photos into Photo '11 9.5 (902.7 build running on an older Intel based MacBook Pro with iPhoto libraries on a USB2 External HD).  I checked and repaired HD permissions. Any ideas?

Regarding iPhoto '11 9.5 (902.7 build running on an older Intel based MacBook Pro with iPhoto libraries on a USB2 External HD).  I am dealing with iPhoto taking too long to download photos.  Specifically, I rechecked and repaired HD permissions. I am running the most current software my five year old Intel MacBook Pro can run.   What happens is that when I connect an external SD card, or my iPhone, the new version of iPhoto takes up to two full minutes to fully acknowledge the device. Then locate new photos and be ready to download them to my external HD.  I am kind of concerned about this.  This has never happened before.
I take 20,000 photos a year.  I really don't want to lose any.  Or is there something I am doing wrong?  Or need to be aware of?  Any experienced suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.  Have a great day.
PS.... The cameras I use are Canon SX-30, Nikon D3100, and my iPhone 4S.  Thanks again for your assistance.

Hello Old Toad.... Those sound like great ideas.
I thought I checked and repaired disk permissions on my main boot HD.  That boot disk is Mac OS Extended (Journaled)  Capacity 749.3 GB.  Available 562.53 GB.   BUT.... now that I think of it.... the Seagate external HD with USB2 interface is: Mac OS Extended (Journaled), Capacity 639.79 GB, Available 36.2 GB with my latest iPhoto Library 517.37 GB that was already scanned & updated to be read by the latest iPhoto version.
I'll try your suggestions tonight as far as double checking 'permissions' and setting up a tiny test library.
Or maybe it's time to fill up another External HD?
I appreciate your and anyone else's suggestions to try.
Have a great day. ~~ David in Rochester NY

  • HT1766 Why is my restore taking so long?

Why is my iPhone 5 restore from iCloud taking so long?

I FOUND A SOLUTION as to why the iCloud restore to my iPhone 5 was taking so long (3 days).
It basically boiled down to my phone trying to download & restore iTunes music from my other apple id. It asked for it initially, but the tech on the phone told me I could skip it...don't skip it. My music is with one id (macbook) and my apps are with my most used id (iphone).
I checked my phone to see if I had iTunes music waiting to download/reinstall...and there was, but it wasn't downloading.
On my phone, I went to settings, icloud, signed out of my most used id, signed in to my other id, downloaded that music, then signed back out.
My phone was ready to go in seconds!
**I highly suggest using wifi to perform your iCloud restore***
I was on my way to the Genius Bar in the morning, but now things are resolved. I really hope this helps someone!

  • HT5191 (Windows 7/64bit) iTunes Taking too long to Backup.

    Hi guys/gurus/"i" masters,
Got a MAJOR issue with itunes. I don't know why this happens on windows but this is one issue i can't solve.
I'm on an iPhone 4s running ios 5.0.1. I want to backup all my stuff before I bring to the latest firmware (5.1.1)
I've had to force close the program many times as the backup was taking too long, and it didn't even move a bit (backup bar).
Can anyone please help me to resolve this issue.
    Appreciate the help very much.
    Regards,
    TJB!

Start by making sure you have the latest version of iTunes.
If that doesn't do it, you may be seeing something like what is described in this Apple article -> Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
If it's what you're seeing, you can try resetting Winsock as a temporary fix or folllow along with the article.
    1. To do so, please do the following in an administrator user:
Windows Vista and Windows 7: Right click All Programs and choose Accessories > Command Prompt. Choose to open as an administrator.
Windows XP: Click Start > Run and type in cmd.
    2. Enter the following command:
    netsh winsock reset
    3. Restart the computer and test the issue.
Note:  If the issue returns, third-party software may be reinserting the LSP.

  • What will happen if i leave the wifi area while downloading ios 7 software? the download is taking too long and i need to go somewhere

ive been trying to download for hours now and its taking too long, i have places to go but i dont want to leave the wifi area if it will harm my iphone and the ios7 software isn't finished downloading...

I think you can stop the download without any harm coming to your phone. But if it is actually installing and not just downloading, I would let it finish.
