IPhone 4 restored using another device

iPhone 4 had to be restored to factory settings due to a glitch in ios7 patch. My iPhone wasn't backed up in the iCloud, so I restored to another iPod attached to my computer which had my contacts. How do I re-register my restored iPhone and rename the device on my computer, without losing/overwriting the copied iPod device username and details?

Turn on Photostream in your system preferences > iCloud settings.
Assuming iPhoto is up to date, turn on photostream in iPhoto preferences.
Photos in photostream should start to sync with your Mac.

  • New iPhone 5, getting the "Another device is using your IP address" message

just got the iPhone on Sunday and turned on the WiFi. Everything was ok until today. Now when I walk into the door and wake up my Mac Mini (OS10.7.5), I get: Another Device on the network is using your computers IP address.
I then have to reboot the AIrport and turn off WiFi on the iPhone. Things were better.
    According to this article:
    http://osxdaily.com/2010/09/19/another-device-on-the-network-is-using-your-compu ters-ip-address/
there's a chance my iPhone is commanding the space. I suspected as much because this has  happened before with other Apple products here. Any thoughts on this?

Reset your router. Two devices are attempting to use the same IP address.
    Cheers,

  • CAN THE IPHONE BE RESTORED FROM ANOTHER COMPUTER?

I plugged in my iPhone to my Windows 7 computer through the USB port.
iTunes ran and I proceeded to update the OS. This failed. Not Apples fault.
Rather, it's Microsoft's fault because there's a bug in their last Windows update where it disables USB ports.
The bug is: if I plug a device to a USB port, it's not recognized at all (nothing happens).
If the device was already plugged in when I turned on the computer, the USB port works.
However, if I then unplug that device and plug it back in, it doesn't work.
The USB where my iPhone was plugged in stopped working because I think the iTunes update turns the USB
    port on and off.
Since the OS did not get installed, iTunes told me I must restore my iPhone to the factory settings.
That did not work because of the USB port problem. I could not even turn on my iPhone. It was totally non-functional.
I then went to my sons computer and did a restore, but because all of my data is on my computer,
I lost EVERYTHING. Or is it lost? I copied the music\itunes folder from my bad computer to my sons computer,
but when restore ran, it did not recognize this data, instead it recognized my sons iPod data.
My Question is: Is there a way to copy the iPhone data on my stricken computer and transfer that to my sons
computer where I can then do a restore using that data?
Can I just manually copy a folder from the broken computer to the good computer?
    Thanks.

Actually, never mind. I was able to get the procedure for using the terminal to format partitions of a specific size, and found out that the EFI partition is automatically generated when partitioning the drive, so I only had to create a 400 MB Recovery partition (although I couldn't get it smaller than 528 MB), a 900 MB OSBoot partition, and the rest as Media. Using Disk Utility, I recovered the downloaded disk image to the OSBoot partition, reconnected the hard drive, plugged in the AppleTV and let her rip.
Flashing question mark gone, although for some reason it initially booted in recovery mode, where I was supposed to be able to restart, run diagnostics, or restore firmware to factory resets. Diagnostics ran fine, but I was not able to restore to factory resets. Nevertheless, when I restarted again, the AppleTV worked fine. I even downloaded a couple of updates, viewed some trailers, etc.
This was fun! Thanks for your help!

  • Preventing iPhone from restoring using iTunes

    Hi all
Is there any way to prevent the iphone from being restored when connected to iTunes?
I want to do this because everytime the iPhone is restored, there is an option to restore as a new phone, and the iPhone has some "Restriction" settings that would be removed in this case. I would like the "Restriction" settings to be in place and prevent it from being bypassed.
    Please advise, thanks.

Is there any way to prevent the iphone from being restored when connected to iTunes?
You can setup iTunes to not sync the iPhone automatically when connected to the computer.
Launch iTunes. From the menu bar top of your screen click iTunes > Preferences then select the Devices tab.
Select:  Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads form syncing automatically
    Click OK.

  • I can't do anything, restore, repair or even find my hardrive or recover it using another device, what can i do?

I was trying to erase everything and did but now I can't restore my system or find the hard drive, even with an OS disk.

Could you start by letting us know what kind of computer and version of OSX you are running?  The procedure varies by system and version.

  • ASA 5505 - Backup and restore to another device of same model and version

How can I backup the configuration of the ASA 5505 on 8.x and restore it to another ASA 5505 with same version? I have tried to save the running config to a file and then copy it to the new device and use the boot config: filename but it doesn't work. Or is there any other way to try? Thanks.

Thanks Andrew, I had tried it but I was having issues with the fact that I kept both ver 7 and ver 8 of the OS images on the flash. So it booted from the first found (ver 7) and creating confusion for me as the config file was for ver 8.
I noticed that it keeps the 192.168.1.1 IP even though in the config file it has another IP assigned. Is there other things that I need to check that do not change apart the IP address?
    Thanks.

  • Forgot to turn off FIND MY IPHONE before restoring to another iphone

I restored all my data to my husband's iphone 5S after he got a new iPhone 6 but I forgot to turn off FIND MY IPHONE in my old device. Now I can't do it in the old device because the apple ID and other setting are associated with the new device.  The old device still contains info that I can't get at because of this.  HELP!

remove it from your account by signing in to icloud.com/find, selecting the device, and clicking Erase. When the device has been erased, click Remove from Account. After you erase the device, you'll need to wait 24 hours before you can activate iMessage on your new device.

  • Question on iphone backup & restoring on another persons itunes.

I backed up my iphone on my sisters computer with all her files like music, photos, movies, & so on, because I have to get a replacement for a damaged phone
My question now is, when i come to restore the new iphone will all my phones entire data and files like contacts, photos, music, apps and so on still show up jusy like they did on the old damaged phone?

A back up stores many things if you would like to know what it stores this link will tell you:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
Now whatever was on the iPhone when it backed up should return when restoring the back up of the old iPhone to the replacement.
In terms of content downloaded from the iTunes & App Store this content is saved to iTunes through a feature caled transfer Purchases. Now this can happen during a back up but might not have. If this content was tranferred to iTunes on your sisters PC then it should sync back to the iPhone after you restore from back up. If it does not sync back to the iPhone you can still redownload the content as all purchases paid/free are attached to the Apple ID the were downloaded with.

  • Organizing iphoto pics on my imac using another device?

My wife likes to organize all the photos that she imports but does not like to sit in front of the imac for hours doing it. I am trying to figure out a way that she can sit on the couch or do it in bed before she goes to sleep at night. My question is can you organize the photos that are in iphoto on our imac using either a iphone or ipad, or is there a way to I can access the iphoto folder over our wifi connection so that they can be organized remotely?

You can use the free VNC Light iPad application along with the free Chicken of the VNC server software on the iMac. I've used it and it will let you open iPhoto, click and drag photos, etc. Set up the iMac server first with user name and password and then setup the iPad and log in.
The biggest problem is that the iMac's screen is much bigger than the iPad's and there's a lot of moving the screen around to get to the area you need. Also using your finger for the cursor is difficult due to the size difference. Our fingers are just too big to click on a particular button or area precisely the first time. We've purchased a couple of Pogo Sketch Stylus for iPhone that work a lot better than our fingers. The ends are brushes. We're looking for a hard, rounded pointed stylus for really precise selecting and writing on note pad apps for the iPad.
Once you get accustomed to the VNC type of access there are more advanced VNC apps that might give you a better interface.

  • Can I disable Find My iPad on iCloud using another device?

The swipe function on my iPad2 is not working, I have held down the Sleep and Home button down, got the Apple logo etc but still can not get swipe function to work. I have tried to restore iPad from back-up through iTunes but this failed too as I am told I first have to disable "Find My IPad" on iCloud before I can restore the iPad. Makes sense from a security point of view, but if I can not get into my iPad how do I go about disabling Find my iPad? Thanks in advance for any help.

You can access iCloud.com on a computer to turn it off.
