Iphone 4 restores in Lion, wouldn't in Snow leopard.

Okay this is a weird one. My (non-jailbroken) iPhone 4 just went black one day a few months back.
Tried to restore in Snow Leopard with fully updated Itunes many, many times but it never worked (always got one of several 1600,1602 etc,)
messages.
Not to get into too much detail but I'm a US resident currently out of the US in a town which has no Apple store so swapping the phone would
have been a major pain.
Recently(a few months after my phone died) I installed Lion on it's own partition on my Macbook and today for s#$%t's and giggles decided to try
restoring my phone one last time. What do you know? It worked.
WHY??
I'm happy but confused...
Lion partition was a clean install(no migrated info or time machine) so no back ups to which to restore.
Tried restoring my now functioning phone in my Snow Leopard partition ....same old error 1600. Had to switch back to Lion and restore.
Was there something fishy with my Snow Leopard installation?
Has anybody else experienced this?

See this support document for help with a restore error. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694

  • Struggling to restore from Time Machine (2007 MacBook; Snow Leopard)

The hard drive failed on my 2007 MacBook. I had it replaced and the shop also installed Snow Leopard (this was what  I was using prior to the fail).
I tried a restore from Time Machine and while a huge chunk of my new hard drive disappeared,  I couldn't locate the files. I have since found them in the hidden /Volumes folder.
I have also learned that to do a full restore,  I should have used my Snow Leopard install disk alongside the drive with Time Machine backups.
    So...
    1. Should I delete the restored file in the /Volumes folder and start again using the Snow Leopard install disk?
    2. I want to upgrade to Lion (this is the furthest I can go with this MacBook). Can  I do step 1 using a Lion install disk even though the Time Machine backup was created in Snow Leopard? (Confession: I'm not sure where my Snow Leopard disk is and I'm trying to avoid going through cupboards and boxes to find it)
    3. is it laborious and risky to try to restore everything manually from the /Volumes folder? Where do  I start if I decide on this route?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would try recovering the files manually first. If the result is unsatisfactory, then I'd boot up using the Snow Leopard DVD, run Disk Utility/Repair disk, erase and reformat the drive, and then install Snow Leopard. Reboot normally, and use Setup Assistant to restore from Time Machine. Completely update to 10.6.8 and then consider if you want to upgrade to Lion. There are no Lion disks - it is a download.

  • How does one un-install Lion and revert to Snow Leopard?

Anyone know how to un-install Lion and revert to Snow Leopard?

    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard. I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.

  • How do I uninstall OS Lion and revert to Snow Leopard

Hi all, I need to use Microsoft Office Mac Version in my work. And OS X Lion don't support that. I am desparate to know how do I unistall the OS X Lion, and revert to Snow Leopard so that I can resume working on my MacBook Pro. Please help.....

MS Office for mac 2004 is indeed incompatible I believe but 2008 onwards isn't. You should consider upgrading your MS Office to be compatible. Apple is not responsible for making 3rd party software compatible with its OS, its the 3rd party developers who updates their softwares and drivers.
You can certainly revert back to Lion BUT it depends what type of machine do you have?Did you purchase Lion as an upgrade?is your machine Lion preinstalled?

  • How do i set up a new lion imac from a snow leopard imac using time machine?

How do i set up a new lion imac from a snow leopard imac using time machine?

Connect the two via Firewire cable - Transferring files between two computers using FireWire. Boot the old iMac into Target Disk Mode. Boot the new iMac normally.
If you are starting the new iMac for the first time then do the above before you turn on the new iMac. After you turn on the new iMac you will begin in the Setup Assistant. When you complete the registration screens you will be offered an opportunity to migrate your data from another Mac. Follow the instructions to migrate your old Home folder, third-party applications and support files, and system preferences to the new iMac.
If you have already gone through the Setup Assistant and created an initial admin user account, then you do the connection step but will use Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder of the new iMac.

  • Upgraded both computers in the household and found Lion is too disruptive to workflow.  Do I turn in the new laptop for a pre-Lion rebuild to keep Snow Leopard, or do I return computer and get upgraded memory to improve performance of existing MacBookPro?

Do I turn in the new laptop for a pre-Lion rebuild to keep Snow Leopard, or do I return new computer and get upgraded memory to improve performance of existing MacBookPro?  I'm mostly still happy with existing MacBookPro, but Aperture doesn't work, the computer can't handle it.
Other possibility is setting up virtual machine with Snow Leopard server software on new computer.
Any opinions on what would allow moving forward with the least hassle and best workflow continuity?

I downloaded Mountain Lion from being on Snow Leopard and lost my entire Office 2004 suite, including Entourage which was my main email server. If I download Office 2008, will I retrieve all my lost Entourage email folders?
    Other options?

It's not that simple. You didn't lose your Office 2004 suite. Office 2004 won't run in Mountain Lion. You need to update your Office software. You need to purchase either Office 2008 or 2011. Either one can run in Mountain Lion.

  • I just downloaded and installed mountain lion on my macbook pro but it didn't change the picture on desktop to mountain lion in is still snow leopard is that supposed to be that way.

I just downloaded and installed mountain lion but it kept snow leopard on my screen is that supposed to happen or did i miss something?

Then you're good to go.  Updating your OS doesnt change your desktop background, you can do that manually, if you wish.

  • Lion server not netbooting Snow Leopard image

I have a Lion server set up and I am trying to server Lion and Snow Leopard netboot images off of this singular server. I was able to create the Netboot images using SUI for both Lion and Snow Leopard. I dropped the Snow Leopard netboot image into the proper folder on the server yet it will not recognize that the Snow Leopard netboot image. Does anyone know how to get Lion server to recognize Snow Leopard image or if Snow Leopard images can be served from Lion Server?

Apologies if this seems overly simplistic, but just to be very sure:  you say "only one Mac OS X is enabled".  Enabling is an active process, you have to do it.  I'm on vaca, so this is from memory, but I think in server admin, selecting netboot, then the far right icon which I think is settings gives you a sort of matrix of images.  On that page is a list of tabs across the top - again I think it is labeled images and is the far right, but one of them gives a page where there is a check box for enabling images.  you check that box and click save.  you are able to see the image on that page, check the enable box, click save and yet it still is not enabled?

  • Help my MAC OS X disc doesn't allow me to restore factory settings it just installs snow leopard and remains on my original user account?

Help my MAC OS X disc doesn't allow me to restore factory settings it just installs snow leopard and remains on my original user account?

You need to erase the disk first. From the 'Utilities' menu on the Install disk choose' Disk Utility; use this to erase the disk, then install the system plus (if it's the original install disk) any bundled applications.
I'm going to state the perfectly obvious just to be on the safe side: 'Erase disk' does exactly that - everything on the disk will be gone.

  • Mountain  Lion Time Machine over Snow Leopard TM

Is it save to create a Mountain Lion Time Machine backup on an external hard drive with a Snow Leopard Time Machine backup? The TM Preference panel is showing "Oldest backup: None" and "Latest Backup: None". Will Mountain Lion erase the prior Snow Leopard TM backup? I don't want to lose my prior backups.

I intended to ask: "Is it SAFE....."

  • Lion Server upgrade for Snow Leopard Server

I can't seem to get the App Store to sell me Lion Server for my Snow Leopard Server.  I'm trying to remain positive about this but I'm getting really ****** that money isn't enough to make this happen.  My experiencewith the App Store and Apple policies in general is its almost time to dump OS X and head back to Open Source.
So, what's the secret?  I put money in my iTunes account.  I've done the 15 logins it takes to satisfy AppleID my account is complete and up-to-date in the store and the Support Communities.  How do I buy the software and actually download and install it?
    Thanks

Upgrading Snow Leopard Server to Lion and then adding Lion Server is the ONLY way to go, There is no other way to install Lion Server.

If by "posted to you" you mean shipped, yes. Usually UPS or FedEx is used by Apple. Note that you may need to access the Online Store that's for your country. If you are not in the US then you cannot purchase it for shipment outside of the US. You can use this link to find the store that serves your country: Change Country. You will find it at the bottom of the Online Store page.
