Iphone 4 shows it's in 3g but won't connect to internet/apps

ok this is really weird.  my phone for some reason today STOPPED connecting to the internet via 3G.  the sysmbol says connected, my texts go through BUT none of my apps update!  i am getting my notifications that i have a new email or facebook comment, but when i open the app it won't update...it's stuck at 9:15 this morning when it quit working.  when i try to go on safari or other apps it tells me not connected to wifi/3g or offline.  I tried shutting down, turning data on and off, and even reset my network connections.  it didn't help.....could it be a virus?  the phone is getting the info but it's like the data is hitting a wall and won't go to the apps!  someone help me PLEASE~~~

This website says to turn your airplane mode off and then on then reboot your iPad.
I did this and it works, however I do lose the connection again later.
So while it's not a permanent solution it might get you started again.

  • TS1363 my iphone 4 shows up in computer folder but will not connect to itunes

I have unintalled and reinstalled itunes, updated iphone 4 and it still comes up in my computer folder but will not connect to itunes itself says there is an error to connecting help please!

    Hey there Jachin W.,
It sounds like you are unable to connect to your home Wi-Fi suddenly on 2 different iOS devices. I would be interested to know if the affected phones are able to connect to a different Wi-Fi connection, but barring that I would use the following article to help troubleshoot the devices and the Wi-Fi connection:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your Wi-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
And this section from toward the bottom if needed:
Unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network
Verify that you're attempting to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Make sure you're entering your Wi-Fi password correctly. Passwords may be case sensitive and may contain numbers or special characters.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,

  • Airport used to work fine, but won't connect to internet now

Hello. I bought my Macbook pro about two weeks ago and never had problems with my internet connection. I moved last week to another city, and had my wi-fi installed today. My brother has a Powerbook G4 and it worked fine with the new connection, but my Mac won't; it won't connect automatically when I turn the computer on and when I click on "open network preferences", nothing happens. I already got connected by clicking on Network Diagnostic in Safari, but i'd like to do so without going through all that everytime I need to get on the internet.
Can anybody help me to fix this problem? I'd really appreciate that. Thanks in advance.

Tell us about your network. How are you connected to the internet? Cable modem, DSL?... Is there a router involved? Which one is it? System Preferences>Network>Show:Airport>TCP/IP are you getting an IP address?

  • Connected to wireless network in home, but won't connect to internet....

I have a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router. We have (1)PC hardwired to the router with (1) laptop PC & (1) iBook G4 connected wirelessly. All was working fine.
Wife opens iBook in the morning and it won't connect to the internet. Airport bars are full and says it's connected to my network, but that we are not connected to the internet. It won't even connect if it's hardwired directly to the router. I've tried reconfiguring, resetting, etc. and nothing works. But the PC's are working fine.
I admit that this is my first iBook so be gentle with the comments and my limited knowledge.
Thank you in advanced for the help!
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

same problem - the ibook was connected and doing just fine wirelessly to the actiontec router - had been for months - then I accepted the recent updates (using the wireless connection which was working flawlessly) and immediately upon rebooting afterwards - bam - no more wireless connection.
airport shows 5 bars strong connection and name of network is still checked in the list - but nothing will actually connect.
the pcs in the house are still connecting just fine wirelessly so the problem is not the router.
the ibook will connect using ethernet cord (that is how I am typing this now) but cannot get a wireless connection going.
somebody - PLEASE - what is the secret to fixing this?

  • Airport card recieves signal but won't connect to internet.

I have a PowerBook G4 with OS X 10.4 (it came with an airport card) and in the next room over I'm using a PC with a D-link (Dl-524) 2.4GHZ router. The problem is that my laptop tells me it's connected to the group, and it says the signal is strong, but when I try to open Safari, Safari tells me I'm, "Not connected to the internet." Therefore, I think the problem lies not with the third party router, which is sending out the signal just fine, but with my laptop, or wireless card. Is there some setting I can change? This problem has existed for months, and I have to reset the router a couple of times a day.
This is what I do EVERY TIME:
*Reset the router - laptop still has the signal, now with the defalt groupname 'dlink'. Signal is still strong, but Safari tells me I'm not connected to the internet.
*Make a new group name for the router and click 'apply' (using the PC in the next room)- suddenly my laptop has internet.
It's bizarre. I don't understsand. Please help me.
PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4)   D-link router connected to PC via Netgear router

Hello everyone. I'm wondering if there is any new information to be reported on this thread because I'm having the same problem as adrixray.
I have a MacBookPro that I'm trying to connect to my new Airport Extreme. I upgraded to the Extreme from an old Linksys wireless B router that has been running perfectly fine on my Comcast modem(s) for 3 years. I upgraded so that I could use the Extreme on my AppleTV but so far I've had no luck getting it to work.
I've tried power cycling about a dozen times, had Comcast reset the modem, even talked to Apple tech support for about an hour and a half on the phone-- no luck. Tech support tells me it might be an issue with Comcast but, as I say, I'm able to successfully connect directly to the modem with an ethernet cable and am able to connect wirelessly with my Linksys connected. I've tried to connect with multiple devices and all of them can connect to the wireless network successfully but can't connect to the internet even though the light on the Airport Extreme is green.
I've searched multiple forums and found that many, many people have experienced this same problem and so far I haven't seen any solutions posted. Could it be a defective batch of routers?
adrixray: I would love to hear if you were ever able to resolve your issue.
Many thanks to all for your advice/help.

  • Apple tv is connected to the network but won't connect to internet?

My apple tv 3 is connected to our wireless network but will not connect to the internet.  I also cannot turn on home sharing.  All the other wireless devices in our house have no problem with the internet.  I have hooked the apple tv up to the computer and restored the factory defaults but that did not help.  Any suggestions?

have you tried connecting using ethernet to see if it's a wifi issue ?
and have you verified that the required ports are allowed on the network ?

  • Not able to connect to wifi using iPhone 4 with OS5, sees the network but won't connect.

Recently upgraded my iPhone 4 to the OS5 and I keep having sporadic issues with connecting to my home wifi, it sees the network but never connects.  I turned of Location Services and Cellular Data for that had worked sometimes, but now it just keeps spining and never connects.  I tried to reset network settings, reset my wifi router and reset my phone and nothing, it will connect at my church for example and other places but not at home.  I have MAC addressing security set on my router and I verified my iPhone MAC address is authorized.  Any other suggestions?

Try restarting your router first, turn it off for a minute then back on. then go to settings on your phone, then wifi, tap on the blue arrow to the right of your wifi 's  name, then tap forget this network. Then go to the home screen, Then hold the home and off button down until the apple symbol comes up. Then go back into wifi and try to connect.

  • IPhone 4 connected to work's wifi, but won't connect to Internet

    Hi there
We have multiple iPhones and an iPad at work, and I'm having a **** of a problem betting them to use the work's wifi connection. We have a Netgear DG834G Wireless Router, which is a 108g spec wireless. The wired network uses static IP addresses (for all the macs and PCs we have here), but the wireless appears to use DHPC (as the devices are allotted an IP address beginning with 169) and WPK-PSK security. The settings on the server suggest that the DHCP addresses are supplied by the ISP. The MAC addresses of the iPhones and iPad have been added to the router's 'allowed' list. The iPhones and iPad work fine on other wireless networks, suggesting an issue with either static IP systems, or WPK-PSK security.
All the devices 'see' the wireless network, and appear to connect to it fine, but when I look at the displayed network icon, it is still using GPRS and not Wifi (we work out in the back of beyond, so no 3G).
    Any ideas?

    Hi Laurence
Thanks for your help. The info that the IP address starting 169 were self assigned led me to re-look at the setting on the router. The DCHP wasn't set up properly, an now everything works as it should. Thanks!

  • Airport Express wireless network works fine, but won't connect to Internet

I had a power outage and since then my Airport Express doesn't connect to the Internet although everything else seems to work. I can see the AE just fine in the Airport Utility. My computer connects to the wireless network provided via the AE, so does my iPhone, so does my wireless printer, and I can print wirelessly from the computer to the printer, so the AE's wireless networking is working. If I directly connect my computer to the ethernet connection that I use for the AE, it connects to the Internet, so I have wired connectivity to the Internet. But somehow, I can't get to the Internet using the wireless network of the AE. Any suggestions on what I should try next?

    Hi there,
Try to reset your Airport Express (AX), y pressing the little dot on the back of device. Keep pressed for some seconds until it flashes. Start then your Airport Utility and go through the setup process again. This will reset your whole wireless network. This may work for you. Good luck.

  • Itunes 10 loaded but won't connect to internet!

I have just installed the Latest iTunes, and luckily it still picked up all of my music from previous itunes. But now when I import a CD it will not pick up the CD data i.e artist title etc. I am signed in here so internet is working, but when I sign in to the store it says :
*Itunes could not connect to itunes store. The network connect timed out*. Make sure your network settings are correct and you network connection is active, then try again.
Now I use Mozilla Firefox, have Avast and McAfee running. I have tried to sign in by disabling Avast, but that still didn't work.
Can anyone help, has it happened to anyone else??!?!?
Looking forward to all of your advice
    Donna

    No, there's no firewall running.

  • I had to move my modem and router, when I reconnected them my desktop connected fine but I can not get the iPad to connect to the internet.  It recognizes the network but won't connect to internet.

I recently had to unplug my router and modem.  When I reconnected and rest them my desktop computer connected finr but I am having trouble getting my ipad to reconnect.

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
    Additional things to try.
Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
On your iPad go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings and see if that enables you to connect.
If none of the above suggestions work, look at this link.

  • Macbook Pro connected to network but won't connect to internet

My Macbook Pro is connected to the wireless network we have with a full signal strength. However, it will not connect to the internet unless I plug the computer directly into the router with an ethernet cord. Additionally, I can connect wirelessly without any problems at hot spots or other houses.
Anyone have a simple fix? I've already reset Safari. I've restarted routers and modems. I don't know what else I can do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This happens a little too often.

I think you trouble shot your problem. Get a new router.

Glad to hear it is all straightened out. You are right about the upgrade cost. That is one reason why Adobe switched to monthly licensing—no more upgrade cost <g, r, & d>. Of course we do have nearly monthly product upgrades. It is almost like playing whack a mole.
