Iphone 4 shuts down randomly

My iPhone 4 keeps shutting down randomly at 32% or 49% or 80% battery life. I did a hard reset, restored to factory settings and also I changed a new battery which I DIY. However, I am still having the same issues. I am using iOS 7.1.2. Please help me out, it is really frustrating to have the same problem after changing the battery.

Thank you for letting me know. I have this issue with the original battery so I thought because I had this phone for the past 4 years the battery may not be good. So I decided to change it myself since I no longer have warranty. Do you have any solutions? Or I have to buy a new phone which I am reluctant to do so as my iPhone 4 is still in good condition.

  • IPhone shuts down randomly - wont complete restarting

Hi, my iPhone 3GS shuts down randomly everyday during use. Plenty of battery (more than 50% at the lowest). It just goes black. And there is a strange vertical banding in the black dead screen.  Restarting begins working, apple logo appears, but after a long wait it just quits again and goes black. Again, there is plenty of battery charge, this can happen on a full charge. Have tried hard-restarting by pressing power and home with the same result.  Only when I have plugged it into a power source does it boot. It can then be disconnected immediately and used for hours, or until it crashes again.
This often happens with angry birds (any version) but that's just because I play it too much, it can also happen using apple apps like mail.
I have tried resetting as well.
This is a frustrating problem because once it happens the phone is completely bricked until I get to a power source for 20 seconds to restart.
    Any ideas?

I have the exsact same problem! .. Sometimes when it reboots it wont even load the OS and goes into recover mode. Iv searched all over the internet for what to do. Iv restored it around 4 times and still the time. Only started happing since updating it to iOS5.1!

  • IPhone shuts down randomly

    Hello,
I have an iphone 3g 8gb. Lately my iPhone has been driving me crazy. It has basically turned into nothing more than an expensive phone. Whenever I want to use my iPhone's internet over 3g, my iPhone will just shut down and reboot, with about 30% less battery. This happens everytime I try to use 3g. Sometimes it will even happen when I am in an application. I am running 3.1.2 firmware, I have tried to restore it to no avail. I have even tried to set it up as a new iphone which hasn't helped. While using WiFi there is no problems with shutting down. Does anyone have a fix for this? I am about to get a new phone because this is so annoying.

I'm surprised you have one that 'nearby'
BTW .. your's is far from the first report of random shutdowns, so you may want to do a search or just scroll thru the first 3-4 pages on the forum.

  • My iPhone shuts down randomly and the only way to turn it on is to reset it, why?

It only turns on if it is charging and I don't know what's wrong it's been doing this since I bought it.

Make sure the battery is charged.
If it's not a battery issue, restore your iPhone.

  • Iphone Shutting Down Automatically ,i had restored the Iphone to default just like a Brand new Iphone  but still getting the same issue

    Hello All
I have Iphone5 from last week ,it started giving me a problem ....
My Iphone is shuting down randomly automatically .and some time it not come automatically ,
when i connected my Iphone to iTunes ,iTunes asked me to restored the Iphone to default just like a Brand new Iphone , i did but still my Iphone shutting down randomly ..
Could you please provide some tips/solution  , why it is shutting down
    Is it Software problem ?

If you restore it as New it is most likely a hardware problem. Take it to an Apple store and they will replace it, as all iPhone 5's are still in warranty.

  • Hi, my iphone 4s shuts down randomly, Apple told me the phone is fine, I did a 2nd restore, deactivated iCloud, and no the frequency of shutting down is even more, any help please ?

Hi, my iphone 4s ios 6.0.1 shuts down randomly, Apple told me the phone & battery are fine as it holds a charge, I did a 2nd restore, deactivated iCloud, and now the frequency of shutting down is even more, any help please ?

It's almost impossible to say whether it's the battery or something else.  If you're running 6.0.1 and you've done a restore and set it up as new, there are no other software updates to try.
If there's no Apple Store near you, contact Apple Care. If  you can't wait for a replacement phone, you may be able to get an express replacement (they ship you the replacement before you ship them yours, but they will put a hold on your credit card until yours is in their hands).

  • My iphone keeps shutting down randomly. Ever since I installed IO7

My iphone keeps shutting down randomly. 3-7 times a day. Ever since I installed IO7. How do I fix or reinstall IO6?

    Hey Kaylyn07,
Thanks for the question. The following article may help in troubleshooting Kernal Panic’s for OS X:
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4636
In most cases, kernel panics are not caused by an issue with the Mac itself. They are usually caused by software that was installed, or a problem with connected hardware.
To help avoid kernel panics, install all available software updates until Software Update reports, "Your software is up to date." OS X updates help your Mac handle the kinds of issues that can cause kernel panics, such as malformed network packets, or third party software issues. For most kernel panics, updating your software is all you have to do.
Diagnosing a recurring kernel panic can be difficult. If you need help with this process, consider bringing your Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.  If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, you can make a reservation (available in some countries only).
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • IPhone 3GS shutting down randomly...

    Hi,
I was wondering if someone has experienced an issue where an iPhone 3GS shuts down randomly. The issue started tonight just a few minutes ago, the only thing I installed yesterday was iOS 5.0.1. Personally, I don't know what has happened, I do know that my brother has downloaded some songs using the Download Lite App from the App Store. Curiously the issue started occuring after the downloaded one song using that app, but other than that I can't find a problem indicator.

I also having the same issue with my iPhone 3GS with iOS 5.0.1, except most the day went by okay for me until near the end of the day. Perhaps I don't use my iPhone as frequently as you guys are but when I really on to something on it, it just shuts down like a Window virus. (hehe)

  • IPhone 3GS shuts down randomly when SIM card is in

without SIM card it works properly! I have updated to iOS 5.0.1, also got a new SIM card from our provider, without results. iPhone shuts down and reboots every 5 minutes when SIM is in. Does anyone has the same problem? What can I do besides sending it to the Service?
    Would a resetting help?

Backup and Set Up as New Device

    Try this First..
    Turn the Phone Off...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    Turn the Phone On...

  • IPhone shuts down on it's own

    Hi All,
My iPhone 4 (16GB, AT&T, 2 years old this month) has been shutting down randomly for about two weeks now, with increasing frequency. I've noticed no pattern which brings this on, no particular app, no rhyme or reason. Trying to restart using the top/lock button sometimes yields a restart that fails (silver Apple logo, then black, no beep) or the "out of battery" dim screen. I've also tried various button combinations (home + lock, home + lock + volume buttons, both, and individually) to no avail. I've restored the phone and backed up from recent and old backup copies.  I've restored and used it as a new phone, both had no effect. The only thing that brings it back is to plug it into a power source of some sort.
Some articles and discussions suggest this is a battery issue. As of 2-3 weeks ago, I had about a full day's worth of charge if I charged the iPhone overnight. This came on rather suddenly, and I know batteries do not normally fail so epically so quickly. I'm not rough on the device, it lives in my pocket and I have a case on it.
Can someone tell me what is going on here, and if there is a fix? I'm at the end of my contract with AT&T, and was planning on just continuing on with this phone as I'm not in a position to purchase a new one. It's clearly out of warranty, and I do not want to think that Apple, a company I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of computers and iDevices from, and supported since their stock prices was in the double digits, could let something like this happen "coincidentally" when my contract is up.
    Thank you all,
    -S

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Iphone shuts down when making a call

Please help my iphone shuts down when making a call restored and set to new phone but still shuts down after 2 to 3 mins  HELP

I'm having exactly the same issue with my iphone, and same specs. It's a new work phone so discussed with IT manager. She advised returning it so it could be sent back for repair. Would be interested if you have heard of any other fixes as not keen to be without the phone, although that needs to weighed against the fact it randomly shuts down when a call comes in!

  • My 4s just started shutting down randomly..why?

Why is my 4s shutting down randomly?

    Hi Kate224
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
