IPhone 4 Sound problems

I just got my iPhone 4 yesterday and I can't get the sound to work without the headphones. I have checked the silent button numerous times, restarted and turned off it, I have checked the settings and turned silent off, I also tried unplugging and replugging the headphones. Can someone please help me!

Check and see if anything has by chance gotten inside your headphone jack, and/or take a nice can of compressed air to it.
The fact that the phone continues to play music when you can no longer hear it is interesting, because the phone is designed to stop playing music if it thinks the headphones have somehow become disconnected, i.e. what often happens if there's an issue with the contacts inside of your headphone jack.
Outside of giving that a good cleaning to be safe, I'm not sure what else it might be. Hopefully someone else has some experience with it, but if it were me, my first steps would be to back up everything, restore the iPhone (just to see if it's software-related), and if not, then probably assume it's hardware and take it to Apple.
That being said, I've seen a lot of headphone jack issues solved with a good can of compressed air, and I've seen people's headphone jacks get clogged with pocket lint and the like.

  • IPhone sound problem. Please help!!!!

Early this morning my iPhone's sound stopped working, it will work for a short period of time and then stop again. I would also like to specify that its not my ringer it is my in app music, music, and the keyboard/lock sounds do not work. Does anyone know how to fix my
problem without having to restore or getting a new phone?

If I go into an app or try to listen to music with the built in speaker it won't work but it will work with headphones, it will work when I recieve a call or a text but any other sound sent mail it will either not do anything or vibrate

  • IPhone sound problem - not the usual issues

Okay so I was listening to music in my office on an external set of speakers, and suddenly my sound cuts. The phone still says music is playing but nothing can be heard through either the built-in speaker or the external speakers. I tried the typical "trick the headphone jack" thing and no luck. When I try to play a saved voicemail and chance the volume, it indicates that the phone is using a bluetooth headset. However, I don't own one and bluetooth is off.
When I try and change the volume at the home screen it says it's in Speaker mode, and when attempting to call somebody and change the volume it claims bluetooth again. I've both rebooted the phone and restored it. I'm doubting any hardware damage because it was working when I was playing music, then it just stopped without touching it.
I'm traveling alot tomorrow and really really need my phone. Please help!!
    Best Regards,
    Fred

I'm having the same sort of problems. Sometimes the external speakers work and then stops working (eg keyboard sounds, etc). On other occasions when I'm using the phone, the ear speaker cuts out and only by enabling the speaker icon, can I hear the other party with the external speakers. The people I'm speaking with are unaffected and continue to hear me. Sometimes the message "(headphone)" shows on the screen. I didn't have this problem before the recent iPhone software upgrade. Must be software problem. Will reset iPhone work?? My original iPhone that my daughter has with no upgrade doesn't have this problem.

  • IPhone sound problem! Help please

I bought a brand new iphone 4s yesterday, and downloaded the awesome new game Jetpack Joyride. But after playing it for a few hours, the sound effects stopped working. The music continues on, but there's no more sound. I checked if the sound was turned on in the game options and it was.
So i reinstalled the game and everything was all good, until somebody calls me. After we hung up, the sound effects dissapeared again!! My other games all have perfect sound, only Jetpack Joyride has issues.
I know my problem seems pretty insignificant, but the main reason I purchased an iphone was for the portable gaming. And having no sound effects on my favorite game really throws me off.
So please, if anyone knows how to fix this problem it'd be much appreciated. Thanks!!

i was just having the same problem,  iphone 4s only a couple weeks old, game was working fine yesterday until i was on the phone using the head set. i just turned my phone on and off. problem solved hope it works for you!

  • Iphone sound problem

I spilled something on my phone and I think it got into the speakers. It sounded different now because when I crank it on full volume it sounds like it's distorted or something. Everything else works just fine. What should I do?

With every song, or with particular songs only?
If with particular songs only, were these songs purchased from the iTunes Store, or imported into your iTunes library from another source such as a music CD?
If the latter, which iTunes encoder method did you use such as MP3, or AAC, etc.?

  • IPhone 5 iOS 6.1.2 sounds problems, how solve it?, iPhone 5 iOS 6.1.2 sounds problems, how solve it?

The instalation of iOS 6.1.2 make troubles in sound sistem of my iPhone 5 - no specker working.
To times restoring and no solutions. Please help me, thanks.

Since upgrading to iOS 6.1.2, I, too, have been having sound problems, but with my earbuds, with one side or the other being either full of static, or only faint sound.  It is inconsistent, and does not always happen.  Also, some songs in various playlists skip randomly, and others cannot be played when selected.  This never happened before this release, and I use the iPod function of my iPhone 4s every day.
Also, the first time I downloaded an app, the iTunes store recognized my iPhone as a NEW DEVICE downloading an app for the first time, though I have had it since October, synced it many times, and have downloaded many apps.  When I looked at my iTunes Store profile, my purchasing history was empty, even though I have purchased several apps this month.
iTunes Support says this (the download part) SOMETIMES happens after an update.  I asked them if it happens sometimes or every time, since it has never happened to me before.  No reply.  They did not address the skipping issue, either.
    Anyone else with similar issues?

  • My iPhone sounds aren't working why is this?

My iPhone sounds such as: Keyboard clicks, new message tones, lock sounds, new mail sounds, or any type of alerts aren't working, music also isn't audible. When I plug the headphones in I can hear everything, but without the headphone I can't hear anything except for the ringer. Why is this? Is there something wrong with the headphone port? or is there something wrong with the phone? I've had this phone since late February of 2008 and haven't experienced this problem until today. I have turned it off and on and that doesn't seem to help. Any idea what this is?

You know what, that did the trick! I think something was wrong with the headphone port because I clicked the side volume button and it kept coming up as "Headphone (ringer)" I put the headphones in and out a couple of times and then it went back to normal. Thanks for the tip!

  • Sound problem in ipad

I have IPAD 2. When  I play sound, it halts like stuttering. If I put an earphone there is a ticking sound. I rebooted but to no avail. I sent the right key to look screen. Nothing changes. any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Abdi

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on General
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

  • When Should I Correct The Sound Problems?

I have a set of interview clips in an iMovie '08 project. Originally the video was recorded with two mikes, with one mike on each channel ( L and R). Unfortunately, on some of them, the mike level for one of my interviewees is much lower than for the other, which I need to correct. I also want to put the sound from both mikes onto both the L and R channels, instead of one on each channel.
I have done all my splitting and transitions and titles all that stuff, and am ready to export the clips into a final movie. However, I need to sort out the sound problems.
So - my question is this: is it better to fix the sound in iMovie '08 first, before exporting - and if so - what the best way to do this? Or should I export the movie, and if so, into what format, and how would I then edit the sound? I do own Final Cut Express but have never used it.
Or... is there a better way than these [e.g. exporting into some other program BEFORE compiling into a final movie, and then bringing back into iMovie '08]?
    Thanks!

Kanan, the difference you already know, blade .vs rack mount. There are some CPU differences, but not much. Both can be managed by UCSM in version 1.4.x
So it really is ones preference on what you are using it for and how scalable you want things to be for future expansion.
Blades: easy, as you can buy a chassis and have 2 blades in that one chassis and add blades as needed. If using boot from San, can get a server back up in minutes
Rack mount: can take rack space more quickly, takes time to duplicate in case of a failed server
Very small differences, but hope this helps to start the wheels turning.
    Good Luck!

  • My iPhone sound is out.

My iPhone sound just went completely out. It won't even work on calls. And tips to help?

Please not that the iPhone uses mono channel for internal speakers, the other path that you see is not the speaker per say. It is the phone microphone. Try using headphones, you will hear both channels. If the problem still persists when using headphones, check your sound balancing in the settings. Go to setting-general-accessibility scroll down and check the slide under mono audio. It should be put at the centre for you to hear both channels ON YOUR HEADPHONES

  • IPhone sound for apps, keyboard suddenly mute

Just got my iPhone 4s replaced and all was well for 1 week.  This morning my apps (YouTube, keyboard taps, text swoosh, etc) are no longer making a sound. Speakerphone works ok and phone is NOT on mute.
    Thoughts?

I had the the no sound issue also on my iPhone.  I found this trick to solve the problem and it give back all sound on any iPhone.
    1- Go to Settings
    2- General
3- Scroll down to : Accessibility
4- Select Assistive touch (for more information about Using AssistiveTouch on your iOS device : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5587)
5- If the "White dot" doesn't appear - Click 3 times to the home bottom and you should get the "White dot" somewhere on your iPhone sceen (you can move the "White dot" where you want on the screen of the iPhone)
6- When you get the "White dot" - click on it
7- You will have 4 icons, click on the device icon
8- Click volume up (be sure the volume is at the maximum)
9- Click on the little bell (make sure the bell is not muted - I found, it's not very clear whic bell is on or wich bell is mute)
10- Call your iPhone - the problem of no sound should be fix (if the problem is not not fix be sure the volume is up and the bell is not muted - select the other bell by clicking on the bell -  call again your iPhone - the problem should be solve and it should work)
11- If you do not like to keep the "White dot" on your iPhone screen - click 3 times to the home bottom and the "White dot" should disappear (if you want it back - click 3 times to the home bottom and the "White dot" should be back)
I found this trick at :  http://www.iphonefaq.org/archives/972122 -  My iPhone ring/silent switch is stuck on mute, how can I turn on sound? - On the comments of " hi iphone users i have had " Submitted by jodray (on February 5, 2013 - 10:05am.
Hoping it will work for you.   Best regards.
