IPhone 4 speaker crackle/distorted

A couple of days ago my iPhone 4's built-in speaker got this real bad crackling/distorted sound, it honestly sounds like the speaker is blown.  The sound doesn't go away as I turn the volume down.  This happened over night, I noticed it when my alarm went off in the morning.  I do listen to music (usually Pandora) and watch YouTube videos, but it's never caused a problem in the year I've had it.  Has anyone had this problem or have any idea about what I should do?  I live about 2hrs from the nearest Apple Store so I can't just make a quick trip.

UPDATE -- Woke up this morning (luckily before my alarm) and there is now no sound coming out of the speaker at all.  When I have my earbuds plugged in, the sound comes through fine.

Thanks Goshia - plugging/unplugging the headset 8 times cleared the problem.
Now why does that do that?!!
Thanks again! I no longer have to look like an idiot with something growing out of my ear.

  • IPhone 6 Plus speaker sounds distorted with popping sound when phone rings or alerts play.

My iPhone 6 Plus is less than a 2 weeks old but since day one its speaker sounds distorted.   The ringer or alerts or even the new email alert have a popping or clangy sound to them.  Is this a software issue or hardware?  My phone is uptodate and Ive tried hard reboots to try to alleviate the problem but it didn't fix the problem.  Should I try to restore it?  Also, If I take it in to my local Apple store and they replace it, will my new ZAGG screen protector just be a wasted $20???

  • My iPhone 5 speaker is going out intermittently.

My speaker seems to be going out intermittently. For example, this morning my phone was connected to my alarm clock and it odd not play music when my alarm went off. It was silent. After disconnecting it, I received a call but there was no ring or vibrate. I thought the phone must have been muted but it was not. This is not the first time this has happened. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

  • Iphone 5 speaker is not working

    Hi
My iphone 5 speaker is not working and I am out of 1 year warranty. I feel bad to pay for speaker again after spending 700$ on a phone that doesnt last 1.5 year. Is there anything i can do about it. I tried resetting my phone, restarting and all. I believe a lot of customers have this problem - making me believe this is manufacturing fault. I know i can pay 60 bucks to get a new speaker; but is there anything Apple can do? should I do anything at all?
    thanks

Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.

  • IPhone 5 speaker not working correctly

My iPhone 5 speaker works, and it doesn't if it gets turned up too loud, or my phone rings for a call, it's like it's too loud and the speaker stops working until I blow into the speaker. This doesn't always work either and requires acouple tries. Can someone please help? I don't want to send it in

There is a known problem with the original speaker module installed in the Iphone5.  If you experience crackling, static, or no sound at all from your phone and you've checked to make sure the volume is on, then it's likely an issue with the speaker module.  Apple will replace the phone or module for free for a year from the date of purchase but MAKE SURE YOU MAKE AN APPOINTMENT with the Genius bar, don't just show up, they only do repairs or exchanges if you have an appointment.  You can make one on line.  WARNING - if you purchased your Iphone5 from Verizon or another carrier and they are willing to exchange it make sure you don't get a refurbished phone because it's likely to have a defective original module in it too.  Make sure you get a NEW, recently manufactured Iphone5 with the new generation speaker module.  I went through three phones before I went to Apple instead of Verizon and got it replaced.  if they have a new speaker module in the Apple Store, they can just put a new module in your phone on the spot and you're good to go.  If they don't have one in stock, they just give you a new phone.

  • Speaker Crackle/Static MBP 2.16ghz

Does anyone else notice that the right hand speaker crackles every now and then. It sounds a bit like static, normally happens soon after it has powered on.
Also the speaker sometimes sounds a bit distorted. This is very noticable during the start-up chime.

    MBP 2.0 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Mine started getting severe static and crackling from both speakers. It got really bad yesterday - non-stop and really loud for a couple hours until I shut it down for the night. Same issue occurred just this morning.
I asked a friend who said "sounds like interference" - so we did some home-tests...when I unplugged the power cable, the static lessened (but still loud) and after a few minutes, it stopped. Plugged it back in, the static started again. Unplugged the power and used a different outlet, same static. Turned off airport, and it got really loud. Turned on airport, static lessened...and eventually stopped.
Our conclusion...the magnetic power adaptor may be causing the interference. The static lessened when the airport was on because the waves grounded it more (remember the old days of radio).
I also found topics in the forum on others who has slight static from the left speaker when booting up..which is where the magnet is located...
Need to talk to customer care and see what they say...
I've been using Macs since the early 90's (my first laptop was a Powerbook 2300 in 1996) and definitely this new model has the most problems. So sad.

  • ITunes 10.5 plays & imports CDs with crackling/distortion

    Hi all,
When I try to play or import a CD, I get a horrible crackling/distorted sound, and the music is barely audible underneath it. This started happening since I upgraded to iTunes when I installed iOS 5 on my iPhone. The crackling happens either when listening to the CD, or when listening to a track I have recently imported from the CD.
It seems the new version of iTunes is unable to communicate with my CD drive properly. Apple, what have you changed in the new version?!
Is anyone else having this problem?
At the minute I can get around the problem by importing my tracks into Windows Media Player and then moving them into my iTunes library...
    What this is not
It's not a playback/sound drivers issue. All the existing tracks in my libary play just fine, including tracks that I imported with the previous version of iTunes. Other applications and music players are playing audio just fine too.
It's not an issue with my CD being damaged. The CD plays and imports perfectly in Windows Media Player and other players. Also, I've tried CDs which were working just fine with the previous version of iTunes, and they're now playing all crackly.
It's not an issue with my installation. I've tried removing all Apple software from my PC, restarting, and reinstalling it all - to no avail...
    My details
    Samsung R60 laptop.
    Windows Vista (arggh, I know)
    iTunes 10.5.0.142
If you've had anything similar please reply!
    Thanks

Same problem here with 10.5.1.  I even connected a new cd drive and it's still not working properly.
Here is one work around that appears to temporarily fix the issue:
    1) Restart Itunes
    2) Change setting to "show cd"
    3) Right click to copy
    The above worked for me.

  • IPhone 4s speaker went off

After update with IOS 7, my iPhone start has a different sound for text messsage, it's great. But turns out to weird sound on the "Whatsapp". After few days now my iPhone 4s speaker doesn't has any sound at all. I have to use sound dock, handsfree, or normal speaker in fo call (can't speaker out).
Is the problem with the IOS and I should re-install the IOS, or the problem with the speaker hardware?
I read there are many complain about iPhone 4s for speaker.
I did restart the mobile, still it doesn't work.

  • HT4623 My iPhone 4S speaker suddently doesn't work properly from one week ago? How I can do? 4s is still under warranty?

My iPhone 4S speaker suddently doesn't work properly from one week ago? How I can do? 4s is still under warranty?

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps, like resetting you iPhone, for example?  Or restoring it?
If not by all means do so because your problem could be caused by software glitches that could be solved resetting or restoring.
Warranty is for one year from date of purchase and two years if you bought Apple Care at the time of purchase. If your iPhone has a hardware issue within warranty, it would be replaced by Apple.  If it is already out of warranty, you might be eligible for an out of warranty replacement where you pay a much lower amount but this varies according to the country and currency, so it is better to check with Apple or with an authorized reseller.

i have acidently poured candle wax into my iPhone 3gs speaker!
I have used a pin and the like to get it out from where I can see, but I am pretty sure it is also somehwere else in the system, because I have to press it on loud speaker every call I make.
Where would I get help fromm an expert in Sydney, Australia?
    How do I fix it?
    Thanks in advance.

Not an easy fix. Search for a third-party repair shop where you live. Apple doesn't fix stuff like this, but they will swap your phone for US $149.
