IPhone 4 Speed?

As I understand it, the IPhone4 has a faster processor than the 3GS. Will this result in faster page loading while on the internet (assuming you had both phones at the same location with the same signal).

Maybe, maybe not. If the page download time is fast enough then pages will display faster, but for most web sites the page load time is a function of the site bandwidth and network latency rather than the processing time on the computer.

  • What is the best place to do an iphone speed test?

What is the best place to do an iphone speed test? I hear some sites are not so accurate.
I ask because i would always have speeds above 750 kbps but now im not getting more than 400kbps after i updated to 2.0.2 . I just wanna double check that my speeds actually did suddenly drop with the update.

I am not sure these numbers are good, but I did some tests on my phone with different settings. All bars full on both Wifi, 3G and Edge using Telia here in northern Sweden (using above site):
    Wifi Download: 4.25 Mbps (4245 Kbps / 518 kB/s) transferred 2304 KB in 4.4 sec.
    Wifi Upload: 0.9 Mbps (972 Kbps / 119 kB/s) transferred 512 KB in 4.31 sec.
    3G Download: 1.17 Mbps (1177 Kbps / 143 kB/s) transferred 1280 KB in 8.9 sec.
    3G Upload: 0.16 Mbps (156 Kbps / 19 kB/s) transferred 512 KB in 26.81 sec.
    Edge Download: 0.2 Mbps (199 Kbps / 24 kB/s) transferred 256 KB in 10.5 sec.
    Edge Upload: 0.06 Mbps (60 Kbps / 7 kB/s) transferred 256 KB in 34.8 sec.
Maybe the numbers would be different if there were a similar test site in Europe, as I often find any speed tests depends on the physical location of the test server.

  • Best Airport Basestation settings for iPhone speed

Hi all, I thought I'd start a thread to capture the best settings for the Airport Basestations to get max speed for iPhone when using Wifi.
I've found there is a big difference in network speed between a Mac and the iPhone even when on the same WiFi network. Try any of these tests on your iPhone and your Mac:
    http://i.dslr.net/tinyspeedtest.html
    http://iphonespeedtest.com/
    http://testmyiphone.com/
    Background from this article:
    http://www.iphonefreak.com/2008/07/dsl-reports-offers-iphone-friendly-speed-test .html
Here's my experience to date (all subjective, no measurements yet).
    - WPA2 and any form of network encryption slows down the transfer speed to the iPhone
    - I'm currently using no encryption but MAC address filtering on the Airport BS
    - Basestation in bridge mode
    Please post your results

    Answered my own question:
The answer is set your Wifi to B only and all the speed problems with the iPhone 3G will be fixed! There seems to be a problem with the 802.11G on the iPhone in my experience.

  • How are Sprint iPhone speeds in San Diego?

I heard about how many people experience very slow speeds on Sprint with the iPhone 4s. Is that a problem that affects most people in a given location, or is anything being done to fix it? How are your speeds with it, especially if you are in San Diego?
I heard that in some places it's ok and others it's very slow, and I heard where it's slow on the iPhone, Android phones on Sprint are ok, and I know the iPhone is just as fast as Android phones on Verizon, so I'm confused about what the problem is. Still, I am interested in an iPhone and am trying to figure out the scope of the problem.

Thanks slattum99. By any chance can you check speedtest.net's app to see what the speed is exactly? I'm guessing by "good" you mean around 1Mbps, but I ended up getting the iPhone with AT&T and that gets me around 4Mbps. Maybe by the time my contract is through Sprint's speeds will improve even more.

  • Does ios 7.1.1 improve battery performance ,also what is its effect on the speed of iphone 4s????

Does ios 7.1.1 improve battery performance ,also what is its effect on the speed of iphone 4s????
if it increase battery i want to know if it reduce the iphone speed ,as after ios 7.1 my iphone got more speed but the battery drainage increased

Tx modular, I mean by speed the general performance of iPhone which optimized after iOS 7.1 but I am afraid to update to iOS 7.1.1 not to lose this perfect performance but also I need battery life optimization

  • Why is my 3GS a 5th of the wifi network speed in my house?

    I have a strange problem.
I have a MacPro, an Air and an iMac all hooked up via Timecapsule wifi + 2 Airport Express for better signal in our house.
When only the iPhone is turned on, the speedtest shows me that is has full 10 mbit access to wifi.
When I turn on any of my computers, they also show 10 mbit access.........
But then the iPhone speed/access drops to a 5th (around 1-2 mbit).
Why???? This is really annoying, as I do a lot of streaming to my iPhone and 1-2 mbit is too slow.
Why do I need to turn off all my other computers to get max speed on 3GS?

    some questions...
what speedtest are you using to get these results on the computer... is it one located on the internet?
what speedtest are you using on the iphone... does it connect via mobile safari or is it a testing app?
    do i understand correctly:
iphone only (all computers off) the internet speedtest shows 10M down and something up
computer only (iphone other computers off) the internet speedest shows 10M down and something up
but when you have a computer and the iphone on the speed on the iphone according to the internet speedtest shows 2M down and something up
    is that correct?

  • AEBS, speeds suddenly slow on my Mac only

The past few days, my internet at the house has been quite slow, where everything has previously gone fine.
I've tried a restart, to no avail, and ran a quick test with my iPhone on the same network, using iNetworkTest.com.
    iPhone speed - 718kbs
    Mac speed - 80kps
My phone was next to the Mac running the test, and as I said, previously have never had any problem. I've restarted the AEBS, Restarted the Mac, and have seen only minor improvement.
    Anyone have any other suggestions?
    Thanks

same here except Im getting 30kbps
I think I'll try disconnecting the aebs from power, waiting, then reconnecting - before I go ape with my ISP.

  • AT&T or iPhone?

A lot of feathers seem to get ruffled whenever it seems like someone is bashing the iPhone. I am asking an honest question here and do not mean any insult. I know variants of this question have been posted in the past, but here goes: Back when I had 1.1.4 installed my iPhone was virtually perfect. Good reception, texts received as soon as they were sent, responsive return to the home screen, everything was good. The 2.0.1 update caused my reception to definitely decrease, but not to such extents as some of the people posting on here. In places where I used to get 4-5 bars, I now get 1-2. I will send a text message and the recipient will get it 30 minutes later. This is more than just an inconvenience, this is the way we communicate with each other at work. It is extremely important that my phone is working properly. I'm seriously considering ditching the iPhone. My question is this. Is the iPhone to blame and maybe I should get an ATT non-iPhone, then I won't have to pay for a termination fee. Or is ATT to blame, in which case I'll be rejoining Verizon. Anybody that has had ATT in the past, or has them now with a non-iPhone, feel free to respond. Thank you.

Everybody needs to realize that bars are just estimates of the reception level. When you are comparing two phones of the same type, and they are sitting right next to each other, but one has more bars, one of the phones is probably just estimating wrong: they both are getting the same reception. Your reception is still the same in those "certain areas." Your reception is not determined by bars, bars are determined by your reception. It could have been that the reception standard was raised with the software update because the bars might have been estimating on a lower-scale, so, in 1.1.4, when it was displaying full bars, you weren't actually getting full service, but something short of it. I discovered this when I was comparing an iPhone 2G with 2.0.1 against an iPhone 2G with 2.0. The one with 2.0 was displaying a higher signal, but when I went to a couple iPhone speed test sites, the results were the same/very close to eachother. Not any significant difference. The iPhone 3G is a different scenario, though.

  • Battery Life/3G Speed - Getting Better

For the first week of having my 3G, I was very close to taking it back. I did the reset to get my phone up to date on the last build for the 2.o software. I love the software and the connectivity to our Exchange server. Works flawlessly, and amazingly fast even when 3G is off.
Here is what I did for the battery...
    WIFI when I need it
    3G when I need it
Turned Push off for my mobile me accounts, because I dont really need PUSH for those and Exchange works with out the push on
Turned off SHOW traffic on the maps and the GPS, unless I need them
I use my phone so much that for the first 7 days, I was charging 2x a day. I was getting pretty concerned as I was charging my 2G iPhone every day, but it usually had .5 to 2/3 life left after a full day. Today, as I type this, on a slow day I have used the phone about 3.5 hours, mostly music, web, email and a few calls. I have 70% of my charge left after the 3.5 hours and 12 plus hours of standby.
The true test will be tomorrow, when I get to work and add the heavy phone use.
As for the 3g, I have been using the iphone speed test and have found that while the 3G speed is not as blazing as I thought, when I switch between 2G and 3G, the speed is at least twice as fast if not more. What I did not realize before is that my 2G was just slow as heck. I have had as much as 5 bars in Chicago, near Ohare, Austin downtown, Houston Galleria Area. I have tested 2G vs. 3G in each location and each time it has been 2xs as fast.
Anyhow, more battery studies coming this week, with music play time.

Try running powercfg -energy from the command prompt. It might provide a few clues as to why you're seeing such low battery life.

  • Anyone having trouble with Accuweather?

It's been going on for weeks; if I'm lucky enough to pull up a page in Accuweather, I'm unable to pull a second. It happens on both of my Macs. I figured it might be an issue with my ISP, soI booted up into Windows on my Mac Pro, but didn't have this problem. I deleted the Safari .plist file, repaired my permissions, ran Drive Genius and rebuilt my disk. No go. Finally I launched Firefox - and had the same problem. So it doesn't seem to be a Safari issue for me, but a Mac issue. Any ideas?

Takes up to 15 minutes for system to check imac software for updates.  And once checking is over, updating software, such as itunes, turned my green light on apple's airport extreme to blinking amber.  Thought it was a bad modem and slow att dsl service.  Bought a new modem and installed.  Everything is working with same slow speeds (from iphone "speed test" I get download results around 500 kbps, paying for 1,500!) except the software update checks and downloads.  Downloaded updates from the apple website works.  Also got same negative results when using software check from system preferences.

  • How to put the Motorola NVG589 in 'bridge mode' (or as close as you can).

OverviewMost people don't need advanced features that personally owned routers offer and will be just fine using the NVG589 and turning off their personally owned router.  But if you're like me (and I know I am!) then you are probably reading this thread because you have ip cameras, personal clouds, photo servers, guest wifi, VPN's, xbox, QOS settings, et al.  I have an ASUS RT-N66U , a VIP2250, and a wireless reciever with a WAP; but your settings should be similar.  The NVG589 does not have a simple 'Bridge mode' setting so you will need to get into weeds to get this working.  I hope you're ready. First StepsMake sure you have a laptop or a computer that you can connect directly into the NVG589.Unplug all ethernet cables from the NVG589 except for the one going into the aforementioned laptop.Write down the MAC address of your personal router (the WAN MAC address if you see different ones for LAN and WAN) Settings on the NVG589Login to your NVG589 by going to 192.168.1.254Go to 'Home Network' then 'Subnets & DHCP'.  Your password is on the side of the modem. If your 'Device IPv4 Address' is the same subnet as your local router, I suggest changing it.  I changed mine to 192.169.2.254 but you can stick with whatever you like / need.  My subnet Mask remains at 255.255.255.0Change 'DHCPv4 Start Address' to 192.169.2.1 (or whatever your above Device IPv4 address is but with a 1 at the end instead of .254)Change 'DHCPv4 End Address' to 192.169.2.5, Just a few more than the Start Address.  We need these for any WAP extenders for wifi TV's.  It's important that you only have the laptop plugged into the ethernet at this point.Click 'SAVE' at the bottom.Go to 'Home Network'  then 'Wireless' and turn wireless off.  You want to use the wifi on your own router right?Go to 'Firewall' then ' 'Packet Filter'.  Disable Packet Filters.  Again, we want our router to do the work.Make sure you don't have any of your own settings turned on in 'NAT/Gaming' (don't worry if you see 1 in there already that you can't delete).Go to 'Firewall' then 'IP Passthrough'.  For 'Default Server Internal Address', select or type in 192.169.2.1.For 'Allocation Mode' select 'Passthrough' (I had to do it in this reverse order to be able to type for some reason)For 'Passthrough Mode', select 'DHCPS-Fixed'Type in the MAC address for your router under 'Manual Entry', lowercase is fine.Click SAVE.  It will tell you that it needs to reboot.  Hang on for a minute.Go to 'Firewall Advanced' at the top and turn everything OFF.Near the top of your screen, you should see an option telling you to reboot the router. Go ahead and do this now. It takes about 2 minutes.Personal Router Settings.
Unplug your laptop and plug in your personal router while the NVG589 reboots.  Plug your laptop into your personal router and login to it.  For me, it was 192.168.1.1 (hence why I changed things above)For the ASUS RT-N66U, I had to go to my WAN settings, then 'Internet Connection'.Change 'WAN Connection Type' to 'Automatic IP'.  This will give your personal router the external IP of the NVG589 and is the key to making this whole thing work. Some folks will have to manually enter in an IP and this can be found under the 'Broadband - Status' section of the NVG589 settings.  If you don't have 'automatic IP' then I feel bad for you since you will have to manually change this every time your IP changes.'Enable WAN', 'Enable NAT' and 'Enable UPnP' is all set to YES for me.  I recomend Setting your own DNS server.  I use Google's but you use whatever you like.  Google's is 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4'Account Setting - Authentication' is 'None'.There are no Special requirements from ISP at the bottom.Hit APPLY at the bottom and your router will reboot.I also changed settings in my IPTV under LAN:Profile was None.Choose IPTV STB port, I set to LAN3 & LAN4.  I plugged my U-Verse WAP for the wireless reciver into the NVG589 and I plugged the ethernet cable going to the VIP2250 into LAN3 on my personal router.  I'm really not sure if this was necessary but I'm having 0 issues with this setup.  I initially tried putting the WAP on my personal router but had issues so I stuck it back on the NVG589 and it's fine.  I could probably just plug the VIP2250 into the NVG589 as well but I'm just enjoying the small victory of using my personal router for now.  Hit apply at the bottom, another possible reboot. At this point, I checked the internet and everything was working great through the router.  I restarted by 2 TV boxes (the VIP and the wifi ones).  Everything is peachy. Your mileage may vary.  Good luck.    EDIT to update WAP configuration.

a couple of notes I would like to make on this. for the most part it's correct. Bullet 1.) 192.169.2.254- I would not change it outside the 192.168.x.x class network specification. Doing this can cause some connectivity , DNS, and routing problems going outside the class.  Example (and yes I did this once!)-- I changed my base IP address to 135.153.1.1 as well as changed everything else. Everything worked ok till I do a traceroute or a path ping. This problem was really pervasive when on my iphone, speed tests would be way, way off, and wireless would sometimes have problems connecting. many times the first hop which should be my router didn't resolve properly and I also created other DNS problems (page can't be displayed, etc...) For this example I would stay within the confines of the wikipedia entry for private network.   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_network it states24-bit block10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 16,777,216
    single class A network
    10.0.0.0/8 (255.0.0.0)
    24 bits
    8 bits
    20-bit block
    172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 1,048,576
    16 contiguous class B networks 172.16.0.0/12 (255.240.0.0)
20 bits 12 bitsof course the common block everyone with a router uses.
    16-bit block
    192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
    65,536
    256 contiguous class C networks 192.168.0.0/16 (255.255.0.0)
    16 bits 16 bits
In this addendum I would say use
192.168.2.254 or 192.168.168.10.254172.16.0.1 or 172.17.0.110.20.1.1 or 10.30.1.1 Either or would be fine. Avoid the headache I created and stay within a private network setting. most DNS boxes already know what the private networks are. If you stay within the confines of them you are not adding frustration to your cause.    bullet 3 to bullet 5.) a tweak of subnets and IP's Now you can leave this at 255.255.255.0 /24 (default) which would give you 254 Ip addresses on that NVG589 to use. however if you are not going to use them just eliminate them. Much less work on broadcasting that the router will have to do. Since you are passing the IP right to your router anyway save the work for the router behind.for instance if you want a shorter range255.255.255.240 would allow 14 IP addresses total this can also known as 255.255.255.240 /28255.255.255.224 /27 This would allow 30 IP addresses total
what you essentially do is cut down on how many hosts you actually have. Essentually you are making the NVG (as well as any router made by any manufacturer) smarter buy giving it a short phone book to work with. An example below for the NVG589device IPv4 address: 172.21.0.1
    DHCPv4 start IP address: 172.21.0.7
    DHCPv4 end IP address: 172.21.0.14
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.240 DHCP addresses available: 8Static IP's available: 5
Another example I would usedevice IPv4 address: 10.20.1.1
    DHCPv4 start IP address: 10.20.1.5
    DHCPv4 end IP address: 10.20.1.30
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.224 DHCP addresses avaialble: 25static IP addresses available: 4
    Another example using 192.168.x.xDevice IPv4 address: 192.168.15.1
    DHCPv4 start IP address: 192.168.15.5
    DHCPv4 end IP address: 192.168.15.30
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.224 DHCP addresses avaialble: 25static IP addresses available: 4 Note: I do not count the base IP address as a useable IP (another headache I learned to avoid the hard way).    Continue on:  From the bullet point of Go to 'Home Network' then 'Wireless' and turn wireless off. You want to use the wifi on your own router right?I would continue on.  Final note:  I don't get here all the time to check and see who replied so if there is any questions please drop me a line as I don't come here very often.  Thanksdavid

  • CineXplayer on the new iPad: why does my avi movie "trembles" while playing?

    Hi all,
I just purchased the CineXPlayer from the app store because I wanted to play a few AVI movies on my new iPad. I am really disappointed because the app couldn't handle the very first avi movie I threw to it.
The same AVI movie plays fine on my iMac using VLC. In cineXPlayer, the movie "trembles" but the sound is ok. Can anyone suggest where the problem might be?
I have removed cineXplayer and on the lookout for a free app for my iPad. Any suggestions?
    regards,
    Ali

Let's get your phone back on track.  Is this the first time the iPhone speeds through a song? Is the software up to date?  You can view that here http://apple.co/1K1avN8.  Does the phone have any physical damage?

  • Edge network is pretty decent, look here

i was googleing dslreports on my iphone and came across an iphone speed test and i did it and my average speed on edge network was 200Kb/sec+!! go to this site www.dslreports.com/stest and touch on iphone speed test and it will tell u how fast the network is in your area.

I'm not positive about this but I don't believe this makes any difference in regards to EDGE access.
Several factors are involved - reception level, if you are moving or stationary and the number of other AT&T subscribers with or without an iPhone that are accessing the same cell tower as you.

  • Home Hub 3 problems

Had infinity since June 2010, recently moved home (from one infinity exchange to another infinity exchange) and as part of the move the infinity install was done at my new property and bt provided a new Home Hub3.
Connecting via a ethernet cable works fine.  But trying to connect wirelessly is another issue.  Three mobile phones (2xAndroid and 1x Blackberry all b/g/n) work fine.  My HP laptop (4 years old HP drivers nx7410 b/g) connects but the signal drops out repeatedly and is v'slow, the other laptop which is newer (Samsung n710 intel wireless driver and utility b/g/n) won't connect at all, either via WSP or by manually setting up the connection with the PSK.
I swapped the homehub3 for my old infinity homehub2 and everything connects in an instant.  Is there something I should do for the Home Hub 3, I've tried enabling and disabling WSP but no joy.
    Any clues?

    Hi All
I joined BTI about 6 weeks ago and have been having problems with iPad and iPhone speed since the change. I have a whole host of computers in the house so I knew it was something specific to iDevices. After much digging it looks like the issue maybe to do with QoS (Quality of Service) it's a protocol that's meant to ensure good service thing is BT HH3 sets it automatically and you don't get the option to switch it off iDevices don't seem to like QoS so I started messing with the HH3 settings.
Before my changes ipad was getting somewhere between 0.58mbps and 1.5mbps instead of the 38mbps seen from my 'doze 7 PC and MacBook Air. So I set the Channel manually by going in to advanced setting then back to wireless, you'll need to check what signals are in your area so you don't choose an over used channel. I used inSSIDer for this. To be honest that didn't make any difference to the iPad's so I started looking at the other settings.
I changed the wireless interface type from 802.11 b/g/n to 802.11 b/g and reset the HH3, that seems to have done the trick as the iDevices are now showing 20+mbps consistently. I haven't got any 'n' devices but honestly 'n' is only any good for transmitting information between your local WLAN computers anyway as the higher bandwidth of 'n' would be wasted on the WAN link which has a max of 40mbps which 'g' already exceeds at 54mbps (OK I know it probably averages out a lot lower in real terms).
So if you're having speed problems you might want to try this, nothing stopping you flipping the setting back if it doesn't work or if it introduces other problems.
    Good luck.

  • So I was going to buy a 3G phone but...

I get a phone home, and there is NO 3G, although it works on the street fine and also have WIFI, but when I turn to 3G I get no BARS, when I turn it OFF (3G) I get full strentgth.
So what gives, why would it work on the street and not 200feet away? Could low battery do it?
    Then again, NON 3G=full bars.
    Thanks

*> In conclusion, stop trolling, stop lying.*
*You sir are a non computer person and do not understand computers, wi-fi, and download speeds at all.*
*I had a friend that told me he got 300K per second, and I said really, for how much? That's 1 Mega byte in 3.2 seconds. or 3000 mega bits per second. I tested his line with a speed test and he was getting about 100K per second or 1 MEGABYTE per 10 seconds, or 1000 mega bits per second.*
*As I type right now, you either don't know what you're talking about or simply misunderstood.*
*My Wi-Fi gets about 10,100K per second or when I download a file, 1.2MEGA BYTES per second, meaning, I can download a 700MB CD in 600 seconds.*
*Here, take a look, see, this is wi-fi, 10xxx per second, wireless.*
    *http://img380.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture4iy6.png*
*Anyway his device was 5 times faster than iPhone and was tested at CNET as well as testmyiphone.com and he got 1900 megabits, or 190K per second, or almost 200K per second, or 1 MB in 5 seconds, and the iPhone got 58K or 580 mega bits or 1 MEGABYTE in 20 seconds, and is much slower than his other device.*
*Learn the difference, so many confuse megabits and megabytes all the time and high speed sells packages as 786Mps which really means 78K not 780K where my line is sold through cable as 10MBps = 1 megabyte per second, or 10,000K, and 784K (as seen by packages) are 78K or almost 100K meaning, 10 seconds to download a megabyte.*
*So no, I am not lying. Learn the difference.*
*iphone 5 times slower than his other phone.*
*iphone came in around 58K, other phone 190K, or 584 and 1900 any my computer if on the same numbering system is 10100, or 101K or 1.1MB, again, another person that has no idea what they are talking about.*
*My speed (and wireless at that, is 88% faster than the rest of the country and 92% faster than the rest of the world).*
*Believe what you want, but at least learn the correct terminology...*

**For those that are, like my friends and this person here, many, and I do mean many, are misinformed...**
*I pay $24.99 for a 10Meg service which really translates to 1.2MEGABYTES per second download.*
*Take a look at this image that I snapped when I was testing...It shows my speed (wireless too) at 10525 or 1.0Meg per second, as in megabyte, not megabit, which is what the other numbers before it are, so when you see a cable or DSL selling a package for 512, or 1.5 speeds, they are talking about 150K per second, or 6 seconds or so to download 1MB.*
    *Notice on this chart it says 512, 1M, 1.5, 3M (or 300K), 5M (or 500K) or 10M (meaning 1 megabyte).....which is what I am getting.*

Many, even after years and years of being around, don't know the difference between megabyte and megebit (which is what service providers sell their packages at) and are mislead thinking 1.5Meg service means 1.5 megabyte when in fact it means 150K per second......
The fastest you can get in this country today is 30M service, or 3 megabyte per second, only in Boston that I know of.
SO it seems that this replier does not know what he is talking about and I don't mean to flame him but if I have to give a class on speeds and how they are marketed and so on, so be it.
I also discovered that the iPhone speeds are GLOBAL and that other phones DO NOT have problems so its the phone, not the service provider and I am speculating that the antenna is either faulty, or tuned down for longer battery life. That said, I was in the Apple store and played with a ATT phone (older iphone) and it was faster than the newer iPhone and this was an ATT phone (who is a friend of mine), so maybe he tweaked his out, I will be talking to him and will report back on this as this is an EPIC problem that seems to be global. Apple will not be able to sit and do nothing about this, the repercussions are to huge, google iphone 3g slow speed woes and you will see story after story, hopefully, this can be fixed on the next batch of phones, regardless of battery life, I am thinking you are going to need 2 batteries to get though a day and the phone is going to have to be self replaceable. Note the screws this time.
    WE'll see.
