IPhone 4 stops ringing...no alerts sounds!

My IPhone is 5 months old. Frequently it stops rinigng or giving tones for phones calls, messages or alerts. The only solution is reboot the phone. Is anyone else encountering this problem?

i have iphone 4 running ios 5.0.1 and the following happened to me twice:
I hear my phone ringing I get it out of the case to answer and the display is black for a couple of seconds then the caller name appears with the option to "answer" or "reject" to my surprise since the phone had not been used for over an hour and should have locked automatically! Could this be the case, since it covers the phone from front and back! Can it prevent the screen from locking automatically cuz it touches it? However, when it was ringing it was completely black before the display came back on, while if the phone is not locked, the screen is generally dimmed not black. This happened twice with a one month of intervals between them. Also, once it happened that the phone was ringing, the screen is black, but there was no display till I pressed the home button. This time, the phone was licked and displayed "slide to answer"
Please help and tell me if this happened to anyone.

Thx, apple master and stedman but tried all of it and still doesn't ring . I have sound on my videos and YouTube tho. Very strange.

As always seems to happen, the next thing you try ends up working. Well almost. I
Deleted the contact and sent a message from that phone to mine -- problem persisted
Deleted the person from my FAVORITES in the phone app (the entry still existed even though the contact had been deleted). This worked!!!
It's kind of weird that the favorites in the phone app were somehow affecting notifications in Messages for a contact that had been deleted, but there you are.

Ringing Bell Alert Sound/ Keeping iMac On

Oy, where to begin?
I am awaiting Apple repair for a possible new logic board/hard drive on my 9-month old iMac. Couldn't boot, didn't recognize its own HD, wouldn't boot from Installer Disc, finally got it to boot after 2 days of the unplugging trick. Constant flashing folder with question mark or flashing grey globe. I have had it on since Friday around noon - afraid to turn it off as I may not be able to turn it on again!
I've backed up sufficiently and am working on what I can while it's still alive. Now I'm getting an odd ringing bell alert - my bell warning going haywire is what it sounds like. I was finishing a project in iDVD and started Firefox up and it went off - is this a sign that I am overloading it with activity? I am also getting a flickering mouse when on the web.
My mac was freezing up on the web and in Mail, I was getting the beach ball, unable to copy and paste into Word without it quitting, (not enough memory, maybe)among other problems.
Can anyone enlighten me about the bell? And is it OK to keep the computer on indefinitely? It tends to freeze in sleep and screensaver (I've disabled both of those) but I am worried about it overheating and frying if I don't turn it off sometime soon. I have no other backup computer.

The system sounds are all aiff, AFAIK, so a search for .aiff should turn it up.
There are some sounds in the Developer package and FYI, any sounds you add, don't add them to the system library, but if you create a sounds folder in the
/Library directory they will be seen by the system without modifying the original library.
In Sound preferences, these additional sounds show up as "System Shared" and not Built-in.

Oh no! We'll get it ringing again! Have you tried flippingn the little switch above the volume buttons on the side of the phone? That may just do the trick!

My iPhone 4's ringer or alerts, texts emails videos on YouTube or iPod won't play sounds however when I get a call the sound is loud an clear. I know it's not a problem with the speakers. It once said that it was connected to a tv when connected to dock.

Recently my iPhone 4's sounds are going haywire. I have a Jensen radio iPod dock that I hooked it up to earlier on in the week(first time too) and when it played a song, my iPhone said that this video was being played on a television. Since then the ringer(at times) along with my texts, you tube videos and iPod on my iPhone won't play music through the speakers. However sometimes my ringer comes through. Same as alarms. When I try to adjust the volume settings it doesn't do anything. My speakers work fine. It's just getting it to recognize its not being played on a tv anymore that is annoying.
Does anyone have any clue what to do?

DaVBMan, thanks for that post. That clears up something for me. I think I have experienced that funny noise as well. It sounds like a Morse Code message. I have heard that same noise while at Church on it's PA speaker system. When I heard this, I figured the speakers were picking some radio frequency noise, but I couldn't understand what exactly it was. When I purchased my iPhone, I already had an old cable, stereo jack on one end and RCA plugs on the other. I noticed the same noise on my speakers. So, I am figuring if I replace the cable, I should be fine.

Iphone 4s will ring but other sounds do not work

We have an iPhone that was submerged in water last year. After allowing to dry out completely it now works well. We use it as an iPod since we have replaced this phone. We have been using it on an iHome to play music but I found out today that the ringtones work but no other sounds. Is there a way to fix this?

The problem is likely to be with the dock connector at the bottom of the iphone. It is possible that the iphone thinks that an accessory is plugged-in and its sending audio to that accessory Or it could be the problem with the headphone jack.
1) plug in the headphones and press volume up or down button. It should change the headphone volume and display on screen.
2) unplug the headphones and press the volume up or down button. If the phone still shows that headphone volume is being changed, then you need to clean the headphone jack properly. You can use alcohol or contact cleaner or deodorant with alcohol
If the above is unsucessful, then your dock is the likely cause. Try cleaning it with cotton and alcohol or contact cleaner or deodorant with alcohol and hope for the best. If nothing fixes the phone then there is a short circuit and part needs to be replaced. Also make sure you turn off the phone before doing any cleaning and do not use more than a drop at a time to clean..

I had the same problem until tonight. Played with ring tones, do not disturb, volume, and everything else posted. What I found is that when you go to sounds/text tone, there are two types of tones in the scrolling menu. The top set of tones are for alert tones and the bottom set are ringtones. They are separated by a gray bar that states their purpose. Many of the tones are the same name. You need to set your text alert in the Ringtones and reminders, alarms, and such in alerts. The weird thing about this menu is when you go to sounds/ringtone the menu is reversed. Mine works in locked mode or unlocked now. I have an Iphone 6 8.1.2. My problem started after my latest OS upgrade. Hope this helps.

To start troubleshooting this issue where you are unable to adjust the volume after receiving a call, please go ahead and first force close all of the apps currently running on the device, and then reset it by following the steps in the articles below.

IPhone 6 Plus speaker sounds distorted with popping sound when phone rings or alerts play.

My iPhone 6 Plus is less than a 2 weeks old but since day one its speaker sounds distorted. The ringer or alerts or even the new email alert have a popping or clangy sound to them. Is this a software issue or hardware? My phone is uptodate and Ive tried hard reboots to try to alleviate the problem but it didn't fix the problem. Should I try to restore it? Also, If I take it in to my local Apple store and they replace it, will my new ZAGG screen protector just be a wasted $20???

Make sure the Side Switch is in the correct "up" position, meaning pushed closer toward the face of the phone (the side with the screen), then try pushing your volume buttons see if the ringer volume changes, if that doesnt work go into your Settings>Sounds and check all of those settings
