IPhone 4 stuck on "connect to iTunes" screen after update uo iOS7

Hey guys.
So, second day here, without any progress at all. Yesterday I tried to update my iPhone to iOS 7, but now it's stuck on the iTunes logo screen, showing to connect phone with usb. I tried it all, recovery mode, DFU mode, re-installing iTunes, installing older version of iTunes, restarting pc, unpluging and so on.. nothing, just nothing, iTunes doesn't recognize it. You can hear only the beep sound when u plug in, and then it stays in "connect to iTunes" screen. My iPhone isn't jailbroken, if someone asks. PLEASE help guys, really desperete here, don't know what do really any more. Any help apriciated.

Hey corubathedog,
It sounds like your iPhone was kicked into recovery mode, which I understand can be very frustrating. However, the following article will help to resolve this issue:

  • Phone stuck on connect to itunes screen after update attempt

Hi, hope someone can help me. I connected my iPhone to my computer to transfer my photos from the phone to the PC. I have automatic syncing turned off.
When I connected, I was prompted to update the iTunes version, which I did. It's now version 9. Then I attempted to update the iPhone version. I got a message saying I had to transfer my purchases first, which I did. Then I tried the update again. The update seemed to take awhile, then I got a message saying it failed. There was a "More Information" button which just prompted me to send info to Apple, which I did. Unfortunately I didn't save the info.
At that point all my iPhone info no longer showed in iTunes, and the only active option is Restore. It does say "Your iPhone software is up to date," which would seem to indicate that the update did work...I tried disconnecting and reconnecting my phone. When I do this, I get the message "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."
I would rather not Restore the phone unless I have no other options, since I have 600 pics, contacts, etc on the phone...Of course not backed up since this is the first time I've tried to transfer data.
So I tried a few things:
    - I disconnected and reconnected the phone several times.
    - I restarted the computer several times.
    - I went to the Apple site and tried the troubleshooting steps for "stuck on connect to itunes screen" (which is what my phone is currently doing).
    - I ran the diagnostic checks in iTunes (output below - I ran this while the phone was plugged in yet it says it's not found).
    - I held down the Home and the Sleep/Wake button until I see the Apple icon.
    - I went to My Computer > Manage and tried to update drivers, but the phone doesn't show in the device manager.
    - I tried a different USB port and there are no other devices connected to the machine.
Nothing worked, my phone is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen and I get the error message every time I plug it in. I haven't tried another computer bc I don't have one and I'm not sure how to create/use another user account on this machine.
I wouldn't mind calling support but my phone doesn't work...Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Your only choice at this point is to restore your iphone. Since it appears from your post that you have never synced to this computer, you of course will not have a backup to restore from. That means your only choice is to restore as a new device & re-sync your itunes content. Unfortunately, all of your contacts, calendars, pics in your camera roll, etc., will be lost. Its not a good idea to use the iphone or any phone for that matter as a storage device, as things like this can & do happen. You should be syncing on a regular basis. The first thing done when you do sync is an iphone backup. You should also transfer pics in your camera roll to a supported application on your computer on a regular basis, much like any digital camera. You can always sync pics back to your phone, but if the only copies are on the phone, you run the risk of losing them.
See if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.

  • IPod stuck in "connect to iTunes" screen after updating software

I wanted to update my iPod touch to iOS5 after waiting for a long time. I synced and transferred purchases twice to make sure all my stuff was in my iTunes library, and then updated it. The update went fine but there was an error message saying that it could not restore the iPod. I went to troubleshooting and it said to update to the latest version of iTunes, which I did, involving a restart. When I started up iTunes again, it said it was the most recent version 10.7 and all of my songs, apps, etc. are in the library. The problem is I can't get my iPod to connect to iTunes now. It went into the connect to iTunes screen before I updated the software and it has stayed like that. I tried plugging and unplugging it, switching the USB ports and cables, putting it into recovery mode, but it will not show up on iTunes or on my computer. I also noticed that when I hold down the sleep/wake button for a few seconds, it shuts down immediately instead of having the "slide to power off" screen come up, and then the apple comes back onto the screen and it goes to the "connect to iTunes" screen again. I have tried all of the troubleshooting guides on the website, but it doesn't change the screen. I tried putting it into DFU mode and something came up on the computer saying "installing driver software" and it said DFU mode or something, which usually happens when I plug in my iPod, but after my iPod wouldn't turn on at first, and when it did, the same screen came up again. When I unplug it from the USB cable, it stays on the screen for about a minute before it turns off and the screen goes black. This is the screen it's stuck on
I'm not sure what else to do, all suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much.

You try on another computer to help determine if you have a computer or iTunes problem. If it works on the other computer that indicates a computer problem and more work is required to fix that problem.
If iTunes on the other computer yuo can do the following to make that computer the syncing computer until you can fix the other computer. For how see:

  • 3rd gen - stuck on connect to itunes screen after update

I have recently tried to update my ipod touch 3rd gen to IOS 3.4.5.
10 minutes later it said that the update had failed. After that had happened the ipod was still on charge showing the connect to itunes sign, I looked at itunes and it wasn't recognised there or on 'My Computer'. I uplugged it and the Ipod continued to show the connect to itunes screen for 15-20 seconds after that the screen went blank. I tried to turn it back on again and it showed the apple logo and then straight back to the connect to itunes screen again for 15-20 seconds.
I have tried the following to restore it:
    1. Hold the Sleep/wake button
    2. Hold the Sleep/wake button and home button
    3. Hold the home button while plugging it into comupter and wait for it to recognise (it didn't)
    4. Reinstalling Itunes
None of these work. I really need the ipod to work help

Has your iPod ever been jailbroken firstly?
Is iTunes reading that the iPod has connected?

  • IPad stuck on "Connect to iTunes" screen after iOS 8.0.2 Update

Attempted to update to iOS 8.0.2 last night on my 4th Gen iPad. After verifying the download, the iPad instructed me to "Connect to iTunes". Once connected, iTunes stated that my iPad was in need of a restore, which I attempted to do so. Upon "extracting software" iTunes states that it cannot recognize my device and fails the restore. My iPad is still stuck on "Connect to iTunes" screen.
    So far I've:
Attempted restore on iTunes 3 times
Attempted hard restart (reboot) by holding home button and top button down for ten seconds.
Don't know what else to do, Please Help!!!!

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

  • IPhone stuck on "Connect to iTunes" screen. Connect to computer, "USB device not recognised". Can't reset. Suggestions?

Above says it all. Frustrated, no one seems to have an answer. Anyone know of anything that could get me closer to fixing it?
Happened when iPhone 4 was updated to iOS 5. Problem was Kaspersky was on - I know this because I have had trouble when updating my iPhone in the past when it was on. Unable to get anywhere in terms of restoring because it's stuck on Connect to iTunes screen, computer won't recognise it and reset won't work.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I had this problem before and fixed it. Its happened to me again very recently so its not uncommon. I had to completely uninstall ITunes and most importantly uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support which can all be found in the uninstall programs in the control panel. once you have done that, re install the most up to date iTunes (don't worry about having to find another Apple Mobile Device Support software as the most up to date version of that gets installed with iTunes). Once that is done take out the USB cable make sure the iPhone is off or blank ad iTunes is not open. Then simply plug in the USB and iPhone you don't have to hold any buttons and the phone should light up and you get a message about the apple mobile device support software being installed then itunes opens asking if you want to restore this iPhone. if this doesn't work don't worry take out the phone and try a different USB socket making sure iTunes isnt open for some reason it doesnt like it open.
Hope that helps im only saying whats helped for me so sorry if it doesnt for you

  • I have an iPhone 3g 8GB model. Stuck on the 'connect to iTunes' screen after update of 4.2 iOS. Solutions please?

I did the 4.2 update on my iPhone 3g. But after downloading and updating it, the phone is now stuck on the 'connect to iTunes' screen and does not move further. Tried the recovery mode operation also, but everytime in the end, it hangs at the end and shows the ''We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.' I tried all the usual suggestions of updating iTunes version and updating the Windows updates, but no luck. Even uninstalled the anti-virus. Please help.

It is restored now.  Thanks for the comment about disabling firewalls - we did that and tried again and it worked.

  • IPod Touch still stuck on connect to iTunes screen after the restore. iTunes went blank.

Hi, I'm having problems with my iPod Touch. My iPod went off because the battery was empty. And when I tried connecting it to my laptop to recharge, the "connect to iTunes" screen suddenly appeared. According to iTunes I need to RESTORE it for it to work. And that's exactly what I did. However, after the restore and all, the screen is still stuck on the "connect to iTunes" screen.
By the way, it's a 2nd generation iPod Touch. And it's an MC model.
And to make things worse, my iTunes screen is totally empty. The RESTORE option is gone and I really don't know what to do anymore.
Hope you guys can help me out! I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

I really don't know what happened but my iPod Touch is working now!!! Thank you so much! I'm not really sure if it went to DFU mode or not but all of a sudden I can access iTunes App Store already!!! WOOOOAAAAHHHH! And it asked me to type in a new name for my iPod! So everything's good! Thank you so much! Thank you! You have no idea how happy I am right now!

  • Iphone stuck on "Connect to iTunes screen", iTunes won't detect it

I have an iPhone 5. I tried to install the IOS 8 update via iTunes today, but after about 15-20 minutes, my phone went to the "connect to iTunes" screen and would not complete the update. I don't recall if an error number popped up, but at any rate I can't find out what it was or even if there was one now.
Since attempting to update the iPhone, I cannot get past the "connect to iTunes" screen. My computer detects that there is an apple device, but that's about it. When I plug my iPhone into the computer, iTunes runs in the background but does not pop up like it usually does. Additionally, now if I bring up the task manager and end iTunes, then iTunes still will not pop up if I attempt to run it again with the iPhone still plugged in. iTunes will only pop up if I unplug the iPhone and then run iTunes. iTunes used to pop up automatically once the iPhone was plugged in. As for trying to unbrick my iPhone:
I have tried turning the iPhone off and on again. It goes to a black screen when off, as usual. It goes to the Apple logo, and then right back to the "connect to iTunes" screen once turned on.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes after unplugging the iPhone, and then plugging the iPhone back in once iTunes was reinstalled.
I have verified that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
I have verified that the Apple Mobile USB Driver is installed
I have tried switching USB ports on my computer
I have tried putting my phone into recovery mode by unplugging it, holding the home and power buttons and then plugging it into the computer while still holding the home button, but there is no effect.
I have tried updating the phone by going to device manager, then to the update driver screen for the Apple device, and then manually selecting the update from Common Files>Apple>Mobile Device Support>Drivers, but there is no effect.
I have tried removing the SIM card, but even without the SIM card it still goes to the connect to iTunes screen once turned on again.
I have tried putting back in the SIM card, but no effect.
My iPhone has previously had trouble with the last update too, but I was able to get it working again somehow. I've since forgotten how, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't this difficult. I do not know if the last update was ever installed at all after I fixed the iPhone, so I do not know my iPhone's current iOS version. I think it is iOS 7.1.2, but I do not know how to check.
I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Nevermind, I was able to fix it. I had to put my iPhone into recovery mode, and then plug it into someone else's computer with iTunes. That got it back to normal. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is? I'm hoping I won't have to keep repeating this process every update...

  • IPod Touch stuck on "Connect to iTunes" screen after attempting to install iOS6

Like the title says, I attempted to update my iOS on my 4th generation ipod touch. Not only did the update not install due to some unknown error, my ipod has been stuck at the dreaded "Connect to iTunes" screen. It isn't being recognized by Windows 7 when I plug it in, either. I've gone through the apple pages and followed their trouble shooting guide, and still nada. I've reinstalled iTunes, restarted my computer, done the sleep/wake and home button tricks, updated the drivers, uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers, used 3 different cords to connect my ipod to my PC, let it die then try to connect it; you name it. Does anyone else have advice on how to fix this? It's only a month old, and this is really frustrating.

To try recovery mode try using this program instead of the buttons.

  • IPad 3 stuck in "Connect to iTunes" screen after attempting to update to iOS6.0

Tried to update to iOS 6.0, and the iPad 3 is stuck on the "Connect to iTunes" screen.  After plugging it back in and connecting it, iTunes recognizes it, and sees it in Recovery mode. Nothing has worked so far.  I've tried:
    1. connecting to another MacMini and trying to restore (same (-1) error)
    2. Deleted the iPad software update from the library and tried to download and restore again. (same (-1) error)
    3. one hour on the phone with applecare tech support. multiple things tried: holding the sleep/wake and home buttons ect...  (same (-1) error)
Has anyone else seen this? I noticed someone else asked the same question, and someone offered a blank link.
    I'll try anything.
    Thanks guys

    Yes, thank you though.
I've done that roughly 30 times over the last 8 hours.  That was one of the methods I tried with AppleCare Tech support.
The biggest issue I'm seeing is that the device can't BE turned off.  Holding the slep wake button does nothing.  The "Connect to iTunes" screen (usb to iTunes logo) seems to be stuck on the screen, unless it's going through the restore process.
When I go through the restore steps via iTunes, it gets all the way to the "Installing Firmware" portion, (roughly about 75% done according to the ipad screen, and thats when the error message pops up again.
I even just tried doing the whole thing from a PC and got the same message.
    ...I touched a PC...
    ...Must sterilize hands...
    thanks for the reply though.
Hopefully, I can figure something out, or I might have to make a two hour drive to an apple store to get a replacement.
