Iphone 4 syncing- new pc-help!

I have an Iphone 4 that was synced to my old pc ( the motherboard crashed) so now I have a new laptop and it wants me to re-sync my phone (while erasing everything) to my new pc. So I guess, how do I sync without erasing because my new pc is empty? or how do I get my old stuff (songs, apps, etc) on to this computer so that it is not empty anymore?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  use your backup copy of your computer to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy, not good, then take your hard drive from the old computer and copy everything to the new one.

  • Sync my iphone to new laptop HELP!!!

i currently have my iphone synced to a PC at work but I have now purchased a new Laptop at home. Over the weekend I connected my iphone at home and downloaded the new update.. However I lost all my videos, films, music and apps.. So when I arrived at work this morning I had to re-sync my phone to retrieve them all. HELP!! How do i now get all of the above onto my home laptop as I no longer wish to use my work PC.. And don't want to lose all of my purchased items every time I connect at home.. (i am using the same account)

Back up your media in iTunes and restore iTunes on your new HD again.

As for the contacts, set up one contact and one event in your calendar before you connect your iphone for the first time to Vista. Then your contacts and calendar will be merged with your first sync.

  • Urgent Iphone with new laptop help needed!

ok so i did a fresh reinstall of leopard on my macbook without thinking about syncing my iphone.
now whenever i plug my iphone into my laptop it thinks its a camera and opens image capture and asks me what photos i want to download off it. It wont show up on the desktop or in itunes.
I have all the music, apps etc backed up on my machine. i do not however have backups of my contacts!
i have a backup of the iphone in itunes, but i cant get to a point of restoring the phone to the back up i have, as plugging it in does nothing.
there is a setting to erase all content and settings on the iphone, will this render it as if i had just bought it out of the shop, meaning i can resync with my 'new' laptop?
    HELP!

I managed to fix it myself in the end, with a slight work around. once i had reinstalled leopard, i noticed a utility called migration assistant. I used that to transfer my old user account off my time machine and restore all the settings etc. now my iphone syncs with my laptop again. hoorah!
Interestingly, i tried the migration assistant when installing leopard (the whole 'setting up your computer' process) but it refused to do anything. I would tell it what to restore from time machine, it would accept, and then sit there with an empty progress bar that did not move all night. And i mean all night!

  • IPhone syncing, new computer old iphone.... major issues.

I recently bough a new macbook pro, i have an old iphone 2g (dont ask me why i still have this ancient beauty, i just love it). However I havent updated my iphone in over a year and need to update it.
Since this is a new computer and I do not have the other one, which I would usually use to connect to my iPhone, the new computer won't let me sync anything without deleting everything on it.
How do I sync all my stuff (or at least all my contacts to my address book) so that i can restore and update the iphone 2g for to this new computer??? thx for the time.
o and is there any good free 3rd party software that can assist in this if apple can't... and no i do not have a backup on my new mbp, so i can't just restore and use a backup.

I already have some contacts in my address book. So I tried to look for the iPhone under >import however, nothing.... So do i just press sync on my iphone on itunes? Will it give me the option as soon as i press it or just delete everything.... dont want to press something and make a mistake that will cost me all my contacts.

  • Syncing iphone on new computer - help needed please

    Hi Everyone
I am stuck on a problem I have been trying to fix for a few hours with no luck after searching the community forums.
Last week we bough a new PC and set up iTunes one the new PC transfering the iTunes library successfully from the old PC to the new one.
All songs came across and appears to be working OK and iTunes is now looking at the correct library.
Tonight my son connected his iPhone to the PC to add songs.  Problem is it wouldn't let him add any songs.
Went into his device and checked the 'Manually Manage Music' and when I went to 'Apply' I got a message saying that this phone was not sync with this PC but with another library, which I assume is the library from the old PC, which I transferred.
The message said that if I sync everything will be deleted and updated from the new library.
If I do this does it mean that ALL his songs will deleted?
There are about 1000 songs on the iPhone and he doesn't want to have to manually add them all again.
So, what will happen if I do select Sync?  Will it delete his songs and he will have to reload?
Or will it delete the songs and replace them with the songs new library that are already on his iPhone?
    Does that make sense?

"Went into his device and checked the 'Manually Manage Music' and when I went to 'Apply' I got a message saying that this phone was not sync with this PC but with another library, which I assume is the library from the old PC, which I transferred."
This is correct. Iphone will sync or maually manage with one and only one computer ar a time.  Sycning or manually managing with another will indeed erase teh current content and replace with the selected content from the new computer.
If you have moved everything from the old computer to the new one, then hes should be able to sync everything right back to the iphone from the computer.

  • Can I get original files back? Itunes wont sync new music, Help!!

My computer had to be taken to the shop last week and the whole system had to be wiped and recovered. I forgot to tell them there was another file I wanted saved so I lost a lot of my music.
I managed to download the free version of touchcopy and get my music back on to itunes. The music that I lost comes up with a question mark and wont play on itunes but is in ipod and plays fine. Is there anyway I can get the original files of these songs on to my computer as I cant make playlists or anything with these songs?
Also in my ipod a few of the playlists have been screwed up and there are about 5-6 versions of 90s music, recently added etc that have nothing in them. Is there anyway to get rid of them?
My main problem now is that itunes wont sync the new music that Ive just added (it wasnt on the ipod before). When i plug my ipod into my computer itunes tells me "sync is complete" and it also shows up with "do not disconnect" on my computer. How do I sync this music on to my ipod??
Sorry for that incredibly long winded problem, I really hope someone can help me!!

I know that sounds so obvious, but I can't figure out how. There are six folders in the iTunes Media folder. Under advanced preferences there's a box that says iTunes Media Folder location with a "change" or "reset" option. What do I change it to? I tried the reset option, but nothing changed. I was hoping it would magically get all my stuff in order but it didn't. I was scared to try the change option. Most of my library is also in my iPhone and iPad and in the right folders/places and  I'm scared to sync them with my Mac because I don't want them all screwed up. And the syncing through iDisc on my Mac isn't working because it can't find my iTunes Media folder and the six folders/documents in it.
I'd appreciate a step-by-step if possible. Literally. I've been using computers for years and my Mac for a little over a year and never had problems with it until this. I also noticed that several times in iTunes help it says " don't change the folder name or location for iTunes Media." duh. Read that too late.
    Thanks

  • Transferring photo albums from iPhone to new laptop help?

My old computer crashed all my data is not recoverable. I have some phone albums on iPhone 5 that I want to download to a new computer, but I can't get them to show up in iTunes or iPhoto when I sync my phone. The only images that download are the ones from the camera roll. Any suggestions on how I could save these images?
    Thank you.
    -F

Photos outside the camera roll can only be transferred to the computer if you use 3rd party software, like Touchcopy for example, just to name one of the many a search will bring up.

  • Can't delete music off iPhone from new computer - help.

I bought a new computer a while ago. Im trying to update my music through my iTunes on my computer - but it won't let me delete anything thats on my iPhone already. I can delete it straight off my phone - but when I plug it in everything syncs back up :s The computer is authorized already with my iTunes account.

I feel really silly but I just figured it out - for anyone possibly having this problem - in the new iTunes you have to go into your device - music and if you scroll allllllll the way to the bottom it says "Manually added songs" and you can delete from there. I kind of miss when you could just right click on them in your Music file and delete it that way. It seems much simpler.

  • Iphone sync new computer

    Hello,
I am retiring and my iPhone is synced to a Dell pc at work. At home I have a Mac Book Pro. If I try to sync my phone with the Mac, it will replace the contents of my iPhone with the contents of iTunes.
Can you tell me how to sync my iPhone to the iTunes so the contents of my iPhone replace the contents of the iTunes/
    Thanks
    Claire

If you have unique contacts and calendar entries on your computer, tehn when you first sync, you should get the option to merge the data.
The pics synced from teh other computer to the iphone will be erased.  You need to copy them from the old comptuer to the new one.
Pics taken with the iphone should be imported to your comptuer regularly as with any digital camera.
The music sync is one way - the only exception is itunes purchases: without syncing - File>Transfer Purchases
I would copy everything from the old computer to the new one.  Do you not have a backup copy of your data from the work computer?

  • TS3418 SyncServer crashes on Windows XP, when iTunes starts iPhone sync

SyncServer crashes on Windows XP, when iTunes starts iPhone sync...Help!

    Many thanks, Paul.

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair".
    Does iTunes launch properly now?
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post:

  • I manually deleted my iphone photos through windows explorer now it wont sync new music or backup. any help please?

i manually deleted my iphone photos through windows explorer now it wont sync new music or backup. any help please?

If those photos were part of the camera roll, they were part of the backup as well and you can restore from the latest backup you made on the old computer. After that transfer the photos to the new PC, follow this article: iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
Then sync again to the new one, which will erase the phone again.
You can also try to copy the backup folder from the old computer to the new one and see if the old backups get recognized, check this article to find the location on your PC:
Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes
If the photos were not taken with the phone, your data is gone, photos you sync from iTunes to the phone are not included in the backup.

  • Help! Where are my contacts & text messages after syncing new iPhone!

    Hi anyone who can help!
I've just had to replace my iPhone 3G which was faulty, and got my new one today without any problem.
I did all the right things by syncing all my iPhone content last night with iTunes so that I could reload them onto the new one.
But when I plugged in the new one to sync from 'back up', it said the new iphone's software was too old, and that I would first need to
1 - set it up as a new phone
    2- upgrade the software
3 Then sync again using the 'back up' content.
Well I've done the first two but after that I've found it impossible to back up using the original content and now I fear it's synced it again with new material, ie an empty phone basically! What I really need to know is all that content, ie my entire phone book AND text messages thread (going back a year) still retrievable? I've located all my contacts in the address book and I may have to re-enter them manually, which I can live with, but what about the text messages??
Any help at all much appreciated!
    simon

Text messages aren't included with the iTunes sync process except for being included with the iPhone's backup, and the same for contacts unless you are syncing contacts with a supported address book app on your computer, which must be manually selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
Before syncing contacts with the Address Book app on your Mac, enter one contact in the Address Book app on your Mac. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.
The same applies to calendar events before the first sync with iCal on your Mac.
If you transfer your iTunes library from your PC to your Mac per the instructions included with this link, no iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased with the first sync with iTunes on your Mac.

  • Got a new Macbook Pro. Move iPhone sync from PC

    Hello everyone,
On Saturday I received my built-to-order MacBook Pro.
I am planning to use this as my main all-purpose computer from now on, so I would like to have my iPhone synchronized with my MacBook Pro.
The problem is -as usual- the synchronization procedure for my iPhone. I have never done a PC to Mac migration yet so I would really appreciate your help:
Right now my iPhone is synchronized with my desktop PC. All my music, my applications and videos are in this PC.
What I want to do is synchronize it with my MacBook Pro , so is it possible to:
    Retain all my applications
Retain the SETTINGS for my applications
Retain the files contained in my applications (such as 8mm camera)
    Retain my list of Contacts
    Retain my Calendar
I don't really care so much about the videos and music (although it would be nice if I could tranfer them as well) but the applications are critical for me.
So can it be done? And what is the ideal procedure to do this? I have had many frustrations in the past when moving from an old Windows XP PC to a Windows 7 PC. I almost lost everything and I don't want this to happen again.
Thank you in advance for your replies!

So, is there no way to transfer my application settings after I setup my iPhone as new?
    Correct.
If no change after restoring your iPhone as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup in regards to the problem you are having, this won't prevent you from restoring your iPhone with iTunes again from your iPhone's backup.
Do you think it would be safe to go through your procedure first, so that I can get my contacts, apps and calendars in my Macbook Pro and then set it up as new?
This is what I would do first after transferring your iTunes library from your PC to your Mac per the instructions included with the link provided - syncing contacts and calendar events with the Address Book an iCal first. You can then try restoring your iPhone wit h iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup and if no change with the problem you are having after doing so, restore your iPhone with iTunes again - this time from your iPhone's backup.
If I drag and drop the applications to the newly setup iPhone won't the settings be transfered as well?
    No.
As already provided, 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app is not stored with the app install on your computer. 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app are included with your iPhone's backup which is stored completely separate from the app or app install on your computer.

  • I just got tOhe iPhone 4Gs today and had contacts and photos uploaded from another phone synced new phone with iTunes for music and accidentally restored it so all my old iPhone stuff is on the new one is there any way to fix this

I just got tOhe iPhone 4Gs today and had contacts and photos uploaded from another phone synced new phone with iTunes for music and accidentally restored it so all my old iPhone stuff is on the new one is there any way to fix this ?! Please help !!!!

Could you be more specific about what exactly do you want to fix now?

  • Not a question but a complaint.  The new ITunes software doesn't support the IPhone.  It is extremely difficult to find your IPhone, what applications are on the phone and to re-sync new and updated applications.  It is focused on selling and not support.

The new ITunes software for Windows, ITunes vers. 11.0.1.12, is extemely clumsy for managing my IPhone 4.  The help material is designed for the older version so is of no use.  The interface is extremely difficult to use except for buying music or video.  I'm trying to managing updating applications and syncing with my IPhone but there I can't find a drop-down menu or anything on help that tells me how to get to the IPhone window so I can initiate a re-sync on my IPhone.  This is very frustrating because Apple is supposed to make things "intuitive" and have "good" help.  Well, it's NOT intuitive and there is NO HELP.  You need to fix this.  I mean a terrible map application and now this terrible interface.  Nothing but downhill since Jobs left us.  Just remember, we all bolted from Microsoft because of this sort of crap and we can all bolt to Android if you keep up this trend.

Ctrl + B to show the Top Menu
    View > Show Sidebar
    View > Show Staus Bar
Deactivate Search Entire Library to speed things up.
This should make managing your iPhone the same as it was before.
