IPhone 4 update to iOS 5 lost my contacts & alphabet tabs

The whole updateing tooked 8 hours, all my friends told me that the update should last only 45 mins to 1 hour. My computer made a backup and after the update, it loaded the backup to my iPhone. Everything else went perfect but all of my contacts vanished. I heard that I should have had Outlook in use, so iTunes could have used Outlook for the contact back up. I have Windows Mail in my computer but I don't use it. My friends who had updated also their iPhone 4 to ios 5 told me that they neither have the Outlook, but the contacts came back perfectly with the back up. So why the update lost my contacts?
I know it's not possible to get them back anymore, but I also noticed that before the update there were A B C D E .. -tabs in my contact application. Now they are missing! I want the tabs back, how can I get them back? When I feed new contacts into the application, the names are all under each other and if I want to find a contact with the letter V, I have to scroll down all the other contacts to find finally the names starting with V. Before the update I could just press the V tab on right side of the screen.
I have allready done the manufacturer settings back and then up loaded the back up again. It didn't help. I have also added the contacts into iCloud, the names still doesn't go under the correct letter, the tabs are in iCloud but why doesn't it use them? They are in mode "all contacts".
Please can anyone tell me how to get the tabs back! Thank you!

Mildly amusing that the instructions for force-closing a program are the IOS 6 instructions, which do not work on IOS 7.
Otherwise I'm having a little success with this. Some apps (not all) are updating. It seems that a few more apps update each time I go through the process (close everything, sign out, and either reset or reboot, then go to the app store, sign in and try to update all). So far it has been a very lengthy, iterative process.

it was not downloading iTune videos, I downloaded an app from the AppStore and there I have the videos. Also I shut off safari after receiving that message. Edited my information and reset most of the things.

I've tried looking for the devise in My computer but all it says is iCloud. I really want to find the DMIC folder and I don't know how!

You should not see anything labeled iCloud in Windows Explorer.

It has been very well publicized that youtube is not included in the ios 6 update. Google it.
You can download the youtube app from the app store if you like.
If you have been sycning your apps as is the design of the iphone, then simply sync them back to the iphone.

IOS update and I lost my contacts

I just updated my iPhone 4 with the new iOS and now my contact are gone and my husband's contacts are they instead. What did I do wrong?

Basic troubelshooting steps have not changed in iOS 7. Restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.

1. importing from sim - got nothing.

Yea I guess that now. It would be nice to have known this prior to doing an update. Apple's self help guides do quote that the contact information is contained within a backup:
Backed-up information includes purchased music, TV shows, apps, and books*; photos and video in the Camera Roll; device settings (for example, Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts); app data; Home screen and app organization; Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS), ringtones, and more. Media files synced from your computer aren’t backed up, but can be restored by syncing with iTunes.""
It also seems crazy that the backup would store recent calls i.e. the numbers but not the names they are linked too. Oh well I hope Apple either edit the above clause or make an easier way of backing up contacts to itunes. I don't want the numbers on my phone to be merged on my email program!

If you dutifully backed up the phone prior to the update, be it on the iCloud or on a computer, merely resync the data back in.
If you did not, you can now start contacting your friends/family/acquaintances, cause the data originally on the phone is GONE.

Stolen iPhone, updated to iOS 7

Hello everyone.
Two days ago, my iPhone was stolen. Fortunately, I had updated my software to iOS 7, which I hear has upgraded its security features. I'm not sure if there is a way around it, but I believe that you need a person's Apple ID password to wipe/reset the device, as well as to turn off Find my iPhone.
Fortunately, I did have Find my iPhone turned on. However, I have logged onto Find my iPhone on my Macbook Pro, which indicates that my iPhone is offline. I tried to set up "Lost Mode", but of course, that only works if your phone is online. Therefore, the Lost Mode request is pending. The thief must have turned off airplane mode for a moment though, because for a brief period of time (a minute maybe), I did receive email notification of his location. However, the Lost Mode request still did not go through.
I am wondering, can the thief do anything with my device? I have suspended my cell phone service (so I know that Find my iPhone will no longer work unless the device connects to wi-fi). Since it requires my Apple ID password to reset the device, which only I know, is my iPhone at all useful to that person? Especially since I am assuming that they would like to sell the device.
I am still hoping, although very unlikely, that my phone will be returned to me, especially since purchasing a new iPhone 5s could take several weeks.
Any and all comments would be appreciated, as well as advice from anyone who has experience with a stolen iPhone.

IPhone updated to iOS 8.1 unable to connect to internet

I've just installed iOS 8.1 on my iPhone 5.
the iPhone is able to connect to a wifi and access internet at any other wifi network other than the one I use at home.
However before updating(when I was using iOS 7.1.2) the iPhone was working normally,it was able to connect to connect to the wifi and access internet.
The router I use at my home is a netgear one.
The iPhone works just fine with any other wifi other than the one i use at my home.
The wifi works fine with other devices I've -laptop,iPad 2(still using iOS 7.1.2)

An iPhone will not pair via Bluetooth to a computer (Mac or Windows) except for personal hotspot and then only if your cellular plan supports it. Bluetooth: Why can't I pair my iPhone or iPad with my computer?
If you are attempting to use Handoff/Continuity, that does involve Bluetooth but the devices are NOT paired; Bluetooth just needs to be on and the devices in range of each other.
