IPhone 4 vibrated whilst mid chat, now won't turn on, or charge

Hi,
I have had my Iphone 4 16GB for just over 18 months.  I am a fairly heavy user.  Whilst talking on the phone a couple of days ago, it vibrated for a good 5 seconds, then cut off.  I tried to power the phone back on again, but it would not start, so I assumed the battery had gone.  I put it on charge, but nothing happened, I didnt get the red battery icon battery - there was no response whatsoever.  I tried to put the phone into reboot by holding down home and power, but nothing.  I then tried to put it into recovery by holding down home and power, then releasing power after 10 seconds....nothing.  I then tried to restore using itunes.  It didnt recognise that I had connected my phone, until I did the recovery reboot, where itunes popped up with the message saying it had recognised a phone in recovery mode.  I tried to restore, but I am getting messages that it has failed.  Whilst it is connected to itunes, the phone is still completely dead.  The only thing that I can add to this, is that a couple of days previously, I had noticed the phone getting warm on charging, but also that the battery seemed to be depleting quicker than normal.  Can anyone please give me some hints and tips - Ive been told that because of its age, if I was to take it to an apple store, the only option I would have is to buy another iphone for £180, and that I would also need to pay for the single repair cost of £25.  Is this true, or is there someway I can save my phone?
I am very grateful for any assistance.
Thanks
Sarah

Thanks Me.  That has been advised by someone very special to me, so will give it a go.
Thanks for being an ANGEL, I shall have HOPE, but I do think the phone is BRICKed

  • I tried to update the software for my iPhone 4S. It froze, and now won't turn off, or on, or sync.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

I tried to update the software for my iPhone 4S, 16 GB to the most recent version (8.1?).  I don't know what I was updating from, because I can't access that, but it was whatever was installed on it (I got it about a year ago, so probably 6.something).
It froze, and now won't turn off, or on, or sync with my macbook plus, which is what I have always sync'd it to.  (I backed it up and sync'd it right before I tried to update the software.)
Since it originally froze almost 3 hours ago, it shows a white screen with the apple on it and a line underneath.  When I try to sync with my laptop, it says it needs me to enter a passcode on the phone, which I can't enter because the screen is frozen.  So I'm unable to access the iPhone portion of iTunes.
I have tried to turn it off, with no luck.  I have tried rebooting my laptop and syncing, but I still get the same result.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I really wanted to wait to update the software, but I was having internet connectivity issues for the past 3 weeks, and Sprint suggested updating the phone's software.
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi NWL1,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPhone won't update and is stuck. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • My iphone 3gs was working normally but now won't turn on

Yesterday my iphone was working normally but this morning it won' t turn on.

Wow, that's crazy! I'm so sorry to hear. I actually had requested
several times to have my insurance cancelled because it never covered any
of the issues I've had in the past. When I amended my plan a few months ago
they must have reactivated it. Nowhere on my digital bill was the insurance
listed so I had no idea I was even paying for it. I'd normally be livid
but, it actually worked in my favor.
I would for sure check into your legal options. For now I suggest getting a
cheap refurbished phone until you are due for an upgrade. Don't commit to
their payment plan that you will be paying well after you are qualify for
an upgrade. If I thought any of the other cell phone carriers weren't just
as bad in some way or another I would switch but, I honestly don't know
anyone who's not getting screwed in some way. This is definitely some next
level bull, though. Now I know why no one from Verizon has commented in
    on this thread.

  • Was playing the Ipod and it went black and now won't turn on

was playing the IPod touch with camera and it went black in the middle of a game ans now won't turn on.

After charging for half an hour, reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If it now works you are done.
    - Connect it to the computer.  If it appears in iTunes restore the iPod
    - If not seen, see if placing he iPod in recovery mode will make it visible so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:

My 5S just started doing this on Thursday: every fraction of a second or so it oscillates between connecting and disconnecting with the charger (USB or wall, doesn't matter). Since it's still under the limited warrantee, I took it to the local Mac dealer (I live in a small town w/out an Apple store) and they shipped it off. I'm waiting now for the replacement--telephonless, too!
What concerns me is that many people seem to be having this issue.
You were right to be suspicious of the Apple store employees. Once they replicated the behavior that you experienced, they should have immediatly offered to exchange your phone. Anything else, in my opinion, is unacceptable. As long as your phone is still doing it, I'd go back, ask for the manager and tell them to exchange your phone.

  • My baby bit down on my iphone 4. It now won't turn on. There is no visible damage. It won't trigger itunes or restore with the usual hold/home technique. Any ideas?

My baby bit down on my iphone 4. It now won't turn on. I tried charging it, using the hold/home technique, and plugging into itunes. itunes won't recognise it and nothing is working. Any ideas?

    Try this:
    Your phone is off...correct?
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you(hopefully) see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button.
If that doesn't work...it's a trip to the Apple store. An out of warranty replacement is US $149 if a hardware issue.

  • My iPhone added a device successfully but now won't stop searching.  Any suggestions?

MY iPhone added a device successfully but now won't stop searching. Has used all battery  any suggestions

Bluetooth when turned on is always in a discovery/pairing mode. It does not really use that much battery when doing so, but if you want to turn it off, you can do so from the Control Center, an easier way to turn it off. I've never turned mine off, and it does not make a noticeable impact on my battery. I suggest you check to see if there isn't something else that is consuming your battery.

Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart. If still nothing, connect to Wall Charger for 10 minutes, iPhone may turn ON itself. If still nothing keep on charger and Reset. It can take about 20 seconds of holding both buttons while on charger.

This is exactly what has happened with me. I feel so ****** off. Apparently this is pretty common. I am in the works to get a content writer job for one of the most widely read technology blogs, and guess what my first article would be on?

  • I just got my battery and iphone 4 screen fixed and when it turned off because there weren't any battery left, I tried charging it. Now it won't turn on or charge... what do i do?

I just got my battery and iphone 4 screen fixed and when it turned off because there weren't any battery left, I tried charging it. After charging it for like thirty minutes, I pressed the home & lock button and it turned on for a moment for me to see that it was only at 1%... So basically it wasn't charging for that entire half hour. Then, I tried connecting it to my computer and nothing is popping up... so it won't turn on or charge... what do i do?

Who repaired the phone? I suggest taking it back to this repair facility. Since Apple replaces phones instead of repair, the repair facility would be the one to take care of your problem.

My Iphone 5 won't turn on or charge. I've tried 3 different chargers, a reset but still nothing. Any ideas or tips?

    Hi there Betty Boop 64,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
