My iPhone 4 keeps asking me for my voicemail password . . . what is that? Where can I find it? I don't ever remember setting one on my old phone . . .

If you don't remember your voicemail password, dial 611 on your mobile and follow the steps to reset it. Then once you're prompted again, you can enter this new password.

If I remember correctly, there was a way to modify your phone number stored in the iPhone 4 that allowed you to bypass the password, as it's set in the phone number for your voicemail:
416-555-1212,,1234
555-1212:      Voicemail phone number
,,:                   Pauses at 3 seconds per comma
1234:               Voicemail password
So when you call voicemail, it sends a pause, then the voicemail password. Then you are into the main menu.
Can this be done with iPhone 6?

You don't enter a password when you call voicemail from you own phone.
and your suggestion is not bypassing the password.
Just call 611 and remove the password (though I don’t recommend this).

Voicemail is handled by your carrier, not Apple. Try contacting them.

my first suggestion would be to call at&t (im assuming you have at&t) and have them reset your voicemail or have them configure your voicemail for use with a iPhone that may be the problem not positive just call 611 and try it out..

Voicemail is a function of the cellular account that you have with your cellular provider. Contact your cellular provider to have voicemail turned off.

Um, no. If you don't save your password for a feature/function/website/etc., then whenever you go to use that feature/function/website/etc., you'll BhaveB to reenter your password.
If you don't save your password, how is the device supposed to remember it so it stops asking each time?
