IPhone 4 w/ Bumper in Universal Dock?

Will the iPhone 4 w/ Bumper fit in the Universal Dock if we don't use one of those iPhone 4 adapter plates?

I can understand Apple not making a million different dock connectors to fit every single 3rd party case available for all the iPhones and iPods, but I find it hard to believe that they can't make one more size to fit a case that they make exclusively!
This is especially true after all this signal issue crap that's haunting the iPhone 4 right now. Personally, I would have bought a bumper case no matter what because even though I hate phone cases, this one actually helps with both the signal issue and a better grip on a rather slippery phone.
Apple needs to step it up and create a new 3-pack product so all of us with bumpers can use our universal and sound docks.

  • Play iPhone thru my PC (via Universal Dock)

    - I purchased an Apple universal Dock and connected my iPhone 3G with OS 4.2.1 to my PC. I've seen an occasional "this device is not supported" warning when I placed the iPhone in the dock, but this alert does not always appear.
    - I am trying to play songs from my iPhone through my PC. I haven't done this before, but used iTunes on my PC, but wanted to try the phone since the dock comes with a nifty remote.
    - The remote works fine, but the music is played through the iPhone speaker. Not the best fidelity.
    - Please tell me if there is some way to configure my iPhone or PC so that, when the iPhone is connected to the PC via the universal dock, songs played using iTunes ON THE PHONE are played through my PC.
    Thanks.

There is no way, the iPhone does not use disk mode so iTunes on your PC cannot access the library on the phone.

  • IPhone doesn't work with Universal Dock remote?

    Hello,
I received an Apple Universal Dock with remote for Christmas, and I'm pretty sure I remember it and the remote working just fine with my iPhone when I first set it up. Today, I tried using it again, and found that I can't use the Universal Dock's remote for anything other than controlling the volume, and even though I can raise or lower the volume with the remote, the volume change is not reflected on my iPhone's screen - the iPhone's ipod volume indicator doesn't move.
The Universal Dock and remote work just fine with my wife's second generation nano, and the iPhone works without any problems when docked into a Logitech mm50 speaker system - the mm50's remote is able to jump forward and backwards through songs, pause, play, etc. The problem seems limited to the combination of my iPhone and the Universal Dock and remote.
Is this normal? According to the Universal Dock's package and documentation, it is compatible with the iPhone and doesn't mention anything about the remote having limited capabilities when used with the iPhone.
If this isn't normal, does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
thanks in advance and best regards,
    tom

i just bought this dock as a car dock. I have it hooked up to power 12v and output to 1/8 into head unit. Now, I have to be in iTunes music to get it to work and it only allows volume, playing of files in a playlist and to next song. Are any of you guys having issues with VERY limited use of the remote and lack of really a benefit from using a remote because you have to touch it anyways to change through songs or video??? Are you guys wondering why you even bought it if the remote is not supported as a functional addition?

  • I have an iPhone 4S and bought the Universal Dock, I use the iPod and move photos, but I can not move slides on TV with the HDMI cable. What can I do?

I always use Keynote for presentations and would like to use the Universal Dock to put the Iphone and move slides. Someone got something?

Have you tried this without the universal dock?

  • Cabling from Apple Universal Dock to TV (with iPhone)

    Folks,
I am well able to get video signal from my iPhone sitting in my Apple Universal Dock to TV sets (and yes I am using Apple's Composite cable) but audio signal just doesn't come through using this cabling system. When I plug in an additional cable from the roung separatel "LINE OUT" port in the Apple Universal Dock and plug other end of that Y-cable into the audio in ports on the TV, I get the audio.
I thought the whole idea of using the "component" cable (yellow going into the yellow video port on the TV, red and white going into their respective audio ports on the TV) that the entire video and audio signals were sent out the long'ish horizontal connector from behind the dock and funneled into the red, white, and yellow connectors on the component cable's other end thus making it unnecessary to use both the "line out" port on the dock in addition to the long white horizontal plug.
What is up here and is there such a thing as one cable that has on one end the long white horizontal type plug as well as a line out plug and on the other end the red, yellow, and white plugs that go into the TV? There is none on the Apple site - just the COMPOSITE cable which is for TVs (the newest types) that offer essentially 5 ports - 3 for just video and 2 for audio.
What IS the correct way the user is supposed to be doing this????

I saw the Chart, I got the same problem as last year when I had my iPhone 3G 16GB. Apple NEVER SOLVE the issue and simply put the iPhone 3G being supported in the chart. It's not hard for them to add the 3GS for the next printed update.
Very dissappointed with Apple on the universal dock and AV component cable combo. They are not cheap either!
Anyone knows how can I connect the iPhone 3GS to computer monitor or projector just like what they did in WDC?

  • Iphone 4/4s bumper dock adapter

    Hi there,
I'd like to get a dock adapter for my iphone 4s to enable it to dock with the bumper case fitted.
I know it works with the universal dock without any adapter but this doesn't support the phone and could cause damage. It also doesn't look right without any dock adapter fitted.
I've searched the internet for hours but haven't found any suitable solution. Why don't apple make a dock adapter for the iphone 4/4s that enables it to dock with the bumper case fitted?
    Thanks, Matt

I don't know what options you have looked at, but the solutions that I have looked at are dock exteners and dock extension cables.  I personally opted for a dock extension cable.  Click the following link to get an idea what is available:

  • IPhone 4 with bumper and official Apple Dock

I don't seem to this subject anywhere - but it's one that is really annoying me.
I use the official Apple dock regularly everyday to keep the phone in view and synched as I'm a graphic designer. I also hate putting cases on things. So this 'fix' that Apple are offering becomes a problem for people like me who use a dock (and spent £25 getting one) as the iPhone 4 with a bumper case on - will not fit in it.
I spoke to Apple yesterday and they won't admit or deny it! I also spoke to two people on Apple Chat and the first cut me off and the second just kept copy and pasting this: "I do not have information confirming the iPhone will 100% fit snuggly into the iPhone 4 dock with the bumper on."
Anyone else think this is not acceptable - as in the 'fix' doesn't help me or others who use the dock frequently.

Well, the lesson I learnt with the original iPhone, is to NEVER buy the specific dock for your iPhone - buy a universal dock, and then the adaptor plates to fit whatever you want to dock in it. That way you only have to spend £7 each time you get a new device, not £30 (or however much the proper dock is).
Plus, you can use the universal dock WITHOUT an adapter - in which case, your phone, in the case, will fit. It's not ideal, as your device won't have physical support (it'll be held up purely by the dock connector which could strain the connector and the port on the device), however my 3G in a case was used (unsupported) in such a dock every night for the past year with no apparent ill effects to either the phone or the dock. At work I also have a universal dock, but this one had some sticky foam pads added to it to give a bit of support. You might also find that the dock adaptor for an iPod classic will provide suitable support - they're a similar shape.
Having said all that, I really can't believe that only one company (that I've heard of) makes dock adapters that fit an iPhone with a case on. The whole point of the universal dock was that you could have plates that fit anything - and I'm really surprised Apple, never mind anyone else (barring the one company I can't remember) haven't capitalised on this opportunity to make even more money by selling bits of plastic.
Apple make dock adapters. Apple make bumpers. They really should be making dock adapters that fit the bumpers!

  • IPhone (3,3G,4) does not work with Apple Universal Dock.

I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch that has been upgraded to iOS 4. My iPod Touch will no longer sync via the Apple Universal Dock. Also, my new iPhone 4 also will not sync via the Apple Universal Dock.

Trust a geek not to give up. I decided to get to the bottom of the "iOS device does not work with the Apple Universal Dock" problem. I noticed that the iPhone 4 and iPad came with slightly different USB-Dock adapter cables. I wondered if that might be the issue. My Apple Universal Dock was connected to my Mac via the original dock adapter cables which are slightly larger. I connected the newer cables between the Mac and the Apple Universal Dock and .... voila! Both the iPod Touch with iOS 4 and the iPhone can now connect via the Apple Universal Dock. Apple changed something in the way the adapter cables function.
Of course I still have the problem with the car head unit dock adapter ... Sigh. I'll have to call Best Buy ( uughh! ) and find out if they'll do the update for me. The were the vendor authorized installer.

Has anyone tried Universal Dock's remote with iPhone Photos? I can't get it to work.

  • After updating my iphone 3G and my ipodtouch 3G ios5, universal dock and remote control doesn´t work

After updating my iphone 3G and my ipotouch 3G with ios5, the apple remote controls (the white and the aluminium one) doesn´t react when iphone or ipod are docked at the universal dock. The remote controls both still work with my Macbook, therefore it must be a problem with the dock. I have tried to connect both with the dock (Menu + left for 6 seconds) but it doesn´t help. Further the volume control doesn´t react on the iphone and the ipod when they are docked. Neither the one on the touchscreen nor the buttons. The day before the update everything was fine. Anyone any idea?
    Thanks!

Look at the previous posts on the right under the heading: "More Like This".  I appears that others are having the same problem.

  • IPhone & Universal Dock - No video out after resume from pause

OK - original 16GB iPhone, latest universal dock and Apple Composite cable, hooked to a 42" Sony LCD TV. iPhone is at latest revision.
Used to be that if I used the remote to pause a video, I could wander off, make a cup of coffee, and when I came back, even though the iPhone was locked, I could press play on the remote and carry on where I Ieft off. Recently though, when I try to resume from the paused state, I get sound but no video and I have to walk over to the docked iPhone, unlock it, and then I get video out.
I can only assume that this bug was introduced (or the previously working feature was removed) by a software update. Whatever the cause, it is a pain.
The cynic in me would assume that it is Apple's sneaky way of reducing the feature set to below the minimum expected so as to drive users to buy an Apple TV. The optimist in me assumes it is a bug and it CAN BE FIXED IN THE NEXT RELEASE!
    Anybody else experienced this issue?

I also believe this is a bug, but I found a workaround. I after starting the video you press the wake-up button, the iPhone screen goes off, but the video keeps playing. Now if you pause using the remote, you can also resume using the remote without having to unlock the iPhone.
The weirdest thing about this is that after doing it once, you can unlock you iPhone and be able to pause and resume as expected. As soon as you change the video (that is, you turn the video out off) the iPhone forgets what he just learned and doesn't resume from the remote again.
So as a rule I always turn the iPhone screen off after starting a video. So I'm able to use my remote nicely. I hope this works for you too... and that it gets corrected in the next SW version!

  • "old" Universal Dock not working with iPod Classic/iPhone

I purchased the Universal Dock back when it came out. Now I have upgraded to a new Classic & iPhone and neither seem to work to the TV through it. I took having to spend another $49 on the chin and bought the new composite AV cable, which by the way does work with YouTube after Apple told me it wouldn't, nice bonus. The new cable works great (haven't tried charging yet), however, plugged into the dock, the remote works, but I get no audio or video out to the TV. iPhone gives me the standard not compatible and wants to go into airport mode which is fine, but then the video plays on it's (iPhone) screen. The Classic pretends everything is working great. Do I have to go spend another $49 on a new "Universal" dock now?

Did you already have a look here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300233? It specifies exactly what combinations of cables, docks, and iPod models do and don't work. Looks like the old dock doesn't work with the new iPod's.

  • Original iPhone, latest firmware, universal dock, composite AV cable ...

    and a plasma tv...
I am trying to watch some ITunes U movies on my plasma set while working out. So i buy a universal dock, the composite AV cable for the iPhone, hook it all up and try to watch an episode. What happens is that the video on the iPhone becomes frozen with the title, and i get sound but no video on the Plasma. The Plasma (having S-Video and Video in connectors) displays S-Video as the input source...
So, a basic, stupid question. If i have, let's say an HD video on the iPhone, and try to play this over TV Out, is that supposed to work over a composite cable? Or do i need to convert those videos to 576i first? Meaning, does the iphone do any kind of conversion on the fly for the signal, or not?
If it does, what else could be the problem here?
    Frank

    Frank,
I am able to play videos from my iPhone using composite cables. I have a Panasonic plasma TV and when I first tried to play a video I found It would not play using my normal "cable" setting. I had to use the remote control that came with my TV and select another "cable" setting, after which it played perfectly (sound and picture). Finally, make sure that the input jacks are pushed in all the way.

  • IPhone 3G Universal Dock Adapter Number?

Thank you for your response -- (its my first ever response) -- Universal Docks that have the large round IR window on the front are OLD Universal Docks and they will not work, they are for the older ipods before the video ipods came out. They also have a SVIDEO port in back. again these are for the old ipods. the newer Universal Docks have a small slot for a IR window and these are the new NON_SVIDEO versions and they my friend do work with the iphone/video ipods and of course the latest Iphone 3g -- if you purhcase the latest AV cables that connect at the bottom of the device...

  • IPhone 3G Universal Dock Adapter + dual dock(bt)?????

has anyone tried this? I had iphone and apple bt(which *****),
dualdock was good as it could hold both of them and keep them pair.
Now things got ugly, 3g iphone doesn't come with dock, and they sell 3g dock
but not 3g dual dock, so I have to either use travel cable or put 3g iphone
in 3g dock and bt in dual dock(or travel charger), which is completely
waste of space and usb port.
So how's this combo? iPhone 3G Universal Dock Adapter( http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB546G/A?fnode=home/shopiphone/iphone_accessories/cablesdocks&mco=MTI3Mzc4Mg&p=1&s=topSellers ) + dual dock
does it work? has anyone tried? I'm sure it will look ugly but if there's
no plan for 3g dual dock, then I'd try it...
