IPhone 4 went to restore mode after updating to 4.1 - it's NOT jailbroken

I just clicked on the download and update then an error popped up and then it went into restore mode.
I don't want to restore it because I don't want to lose my data. I synched the phone right before I updated it.
My phone is not jailbroken so I'm not sure why this happened.
How can I recover my data?
Please help!
Need my phone ASAP!
Thanks!

If you synced, then you should have all the data on the computer.
You should be able to restore from a the latest backup.
I highly doubt that you will be able to do anything without restoring.

  • My iphone went into restore mode after updating to Iso7....is that normal?

my iphone is still in recovery mode....is that normal? will i loose any data? did this happen to anybody else?

    dfu mode
How to enter iPhone DFU mode
Connect the iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes
Turn the iPhone off (hold down the power button at the top of the iPhone)
Hold down the sleep/power button and home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button
Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an iPhone in recover mode has been detected
When you are in DFU mode your iPhone screen will be completely black
Even though the screen is black, that doesn’t mean the device can’t be interfaced with either iTunes or a custom firmware client (for jailbreaking, etc).
Remember that if you see the restore logo, iTunes logo, or any message on the iPhone screen, you are not in DFU mode but standard Recovery Mode. Again, DFU mode is signified by having a completely black screen on the device. If anything else is the case, repeat the steps above until you enter into DFU mode successfully.
    Exit DFU mode on iPhone
The simplest way to exit out of DFU mode is to hold down the Home and sleep/power buttons on the iPhone while connected to iTunes. Then just hit the power button as and this should reboot the device as usual.
And if you’re curious, yes this works all the same on an iPod touch.

  • My Iphone 3GS is in restore mode after updating to IOS 4.3

I need help I was trying to update my IP 3GS and now i'm stuck in restore mode is there a way to fix it with out losing my contacts?

    Check this out:
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on): If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software.

  • My iphone 4 stuck in recovery mode after updating to ios5.1

i got my iphone 4 updated to ios 5 months ago and it was successful. However, i was updating my software to ios 5.1 using the phone itself and it went into recovery mode after that. The moment before updating it was fine and now it stuck in recovery mode, showing the itunes logo and usb cable.
I connected my phone to the itunes on my laptop and it shows that my iphone is in recovery mode and must be restored.
I've tried restoring it but after the restoration cycle was done, it pop up a window saying there's an error (1) occuring and my iphone was unable to be restored.
I've tried it again and again for hours from yesterday evening until now but it's still the same. Anyone can help? I got no more phone to use at the moment.

download a program called RecBoot, very easy to use, connect your iphone and click on "exit recovery mode" and it will restart normally. I had the same problem as you, but I solved it with this program.

    Hello..
After updating my iphone 4s, my iphone got stuck in recovery mode. I don't really care what happens to my contacts, old texts, or apps.. All I want are my pictures. Anyone have any idea on how I can get them back? I have over 1,200 pictures & I none of them can be found on my iCloud. Someone help me save my photos!!

You may need to try this More than Once...
Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
But... if the Device has been Modified... this will Not necessarily work.
Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...

  • IPad stuck in restore mode after update to iOS 8.02

I attempted to do this yesterday and after the update was extracted I kept getting an Unknown error 3104. I tried everything form editing the hosts file in Windows 8.1, disabling my Anti-Virus. Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, resetting my router, etc, etc but nothing worked!!! This was very distressing for me as I couldn't use the iPad!!
This morning I tried one last thing. I Downloaded iTunes on another Windows 8.1 PC I have and connected the iPad to it. It detected that it was in Restore mode and download the update from Apple and finally restored the iPad to factory settings!! After this I connected the iPad back on my original PC and restore it to how it was from the last backup made yesterday. Phew!! Apple should say something like this for other users or at least provide some way to get out of restore mode if an update fails or becomes corrupt!!

Apple does make the suggestion to try another computer and another Internet connection for that very same error code that you got.
Restore or update on another computer
Try to restore or update on another computer with a different Internet connection. This will help rule out other issues on your computer that might stop iTunes from communicating with the update server.
Errors 1639, 3000-3020, and 3100-3999 (with the exception of 3194) are sometimes caused by your network settings. If your computer uses a managed network, refer to your network administrator. Proxies, firewalls, and other network security measures can cause these errors. If necessary, find a different network connection to restore the device. For example, if you're restoring at work, try to restore at home or on a friend's computer and network.

  • IPhone 4S stuck in recovery mode after update attempt.

    Hey everyone,
I recently tried to update my phone to ios 7.1.  I was just about finished when iTunes told me that it was out of date and needed to be updated.  I updated it, but it put my phone into a recovery loop that I can't get out of.  The phone is NOT jailbroken.  I've tried to get out of it through TinyUmbrella, change the host file in etc/hosts, and hard reset it multiple times.  Any ideas?  Trying to do it without restoring, as I have pictures I still need to back up.
    Thank you!

Turns out we had a backup right before it did the update, and we have all the pictures and contacts with it. Just did a fresh restore and set it up with that backup.

  • My iPhone 5 went into recovery mode after I tried to update it to iOS 8. Any suggestions?

I have tried those apps that allow you to exit out of recovery mode. But none of them worked for me. I don't want to restore my iPhone because I haven't backed it up for a while now...

  • IPhone 3G went into recovery mode after installing iTunes 9.0 and 3.1 OS

    Hi there,
I recently had to waste about 2hrs time, to get a not working 3.1 OS update fixed on my iPhone 3G. This is not the kind of hassle I would expect from Apple!
I am using a MacBook with OSX 10.5.6 and an iMac with SnowLeopard and iTunes 9.0.
When upgrading from 3.0.1 to 3.1 on the iMac my iPhone 3G immediately went into some kind of "recovery mode". Three attemps failed to get that fixed. The iPhone would always be recognized as a iPhone in "recovery mode".
iTunes would then connect to some kind of Apple service, to restore/recover the phone, but then fail again and again with a "2600" or so error. Detailed info on that error would furthermore lead to a Apple website, that was not accessible ("sorry, there is no information available...").
Finally I had the idea to connect the iPhone to my OSX 10.5.8 MacBook's iTunes 9, which surprisingly managed to get the iPhone out of recovery again. First all my app store apps were gone, but then I found a tab within iTunes, where I could recover all my apps (after checking the option "overwrite apps on iphone").
This was by far the most stupid gone wrong upgrade process on a before well working phone and an iMac, I have ever encountered.
Thanks for the wasted time, Apple. Proably you guys should get things straight before releasing banana phone OS updates, that work on one Apple and not the other.
    Cheers
    Christoph

Awesome, thanks!! I actually read on another forum about doing that on an XP computer because Vista and 7 drivers get screwed up for the iPhone, so I just got done doing it on an XP computer and it WORKED!!!!
    Thanks for the reply!

  • My iphone 4s is in recovery mode after updating and keeps getting error 4005

    Hi there,
I recently tried updating to iOS 7.1 using iTunes. Don't know what went wrong but I got an error (quickly clicked it away so don't know what the first error was) and it is now in recovery mode. Whenever I try to recover it with iTunes it stick with "waiting for iPhone" and after a couple of minutes it gives error 4005.
I have tried several USB cables, computers and ports. Even switched the docking port and battery from another 4s, but with no positive results.
Is there anything else I can try? Switching out certain hardware to figure out which is faulty??
I am tomorrow going to try the same thing on a iMac. Anything else?

    Hi Rajarani,
Thanks for thinking with me. I have tried all of those steps except for the direct internet connection (im on wifi with my pc and laptop) but iTunes uses a IPSW downloaded before so internet is only necessary for validating?
I have also tried it in DFU mode, but once it is preparing iphone for recovery it reboots to recovery mode.
    Thanks anyway!

  • IPhone 4s went into recovery mode while updating to newest IOS

While I was updating my iPhone 4 tonight to the newest IOS, it stopped and gave me the 'this iphone is in recovery mode' messagae and the only option was to restore it to factory settings.  I am running the newest OS on my imac 10.9.2 and my iphone is not jacked.  I bought it from Apple/AT&T and it has only been backed up to itunes via my iMac since I bought it.  I am frustrated but at this point, I'll never know what caused this.
When I clicked restore, the screen said it would erase all data and load the newest IOS.  Assuming it is a successful restore, can I sync my iPhone to my last back up to get all my data back?  If not, what are my options?
    thanks for any help.

  • HT201210 Restore mode after update

I downloaded the new update for my iphone last night and this morning itunes tells me I must RESTORE and lose all my photos! Help!

Sometimes an attempt or two is necessary.  Here are some tips on "device not recognized by Windows"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
If that doesn't work, look up dfu mode on Google.  Dfu mode puts the device in a status where it is recognized by iTunes but has no screen display. If you have to take this step, be prepared to try it a time or two to make it work.  The key will be that it is detected by iTunes, as being in recovery mode,  but there will be no screen display on the device.
