IPhone 4 wifi playing up=no push notifications

Hi All,
Hoping that I can explain this the best I can and that someone will be able to help me.
I'm having a really annoying time with my iPhone because of what seems to be something related with the wifi connection.
When at home, I switch off my 3G connection and use only my wifi connection. I do this as I had experienced trouble when I first got my phone because although the wifi icon was active it was using my 3G connection and I burnt through the usage on my plan in the space of 2 days without knowing!
What is happening now is really strange and, as far as I can tell, has only been since installing iOS 4.2.
When I turn the screen on (via home button or sleep/wake button) the wifi icon is not displayed until about 1 second later. This leads me to believe that somehow, unless the phone is "active" the wifi is not being streamed into the phone which is resulting in absolutely NO push notifications being sent to the phone. Nothing. No Emails, no facebook, no PingChat you name it-NOTHING!
This is obviously extremely annoying as a) I want to be alerted when I receive mail etc and b) I am now having to individually check all the accounts/apps for new messages etc.
The reason I think it may be iOS 4.2 related is that I can't remember this happening before the upgrade, and my wife's phone (which I haven't yet had the time to upgrade) displays the wifi icon constantly and receives all push data.
Sorry for the long message but I wanted to explain it as best I could.
Anyone experiencing the same problem or perhaps have a solution. I'm hesitant to keep the 3G on as well as the wifi due to problem I had previously had.
Thanks all for your time.

Turning 3G network access off alone does not turn off internet access via the cellular network via EDGE or GPRS, whichever is available at the time with 3G access turned off.
Turning Cellular Data off on the iPhone prevents internet access entirely via the cellular network.
With wi-fi access on and the iPhone connected to an available wi-fi network while the iPhone is not connected to a power source, wi-fi access will be turned off when the iPhone is asleep to conserve battery. When waking the iPhone up, it will quickly reconnect to the wi-fi network. When the iPhone is connected to a power source while connected to a wi-fi network, it will remain connected to the wi-fi network while asleep.

  • Upon transferring from 4s to 5s, some push notifications stopped. How do I get them back?

I transferred my data from my old iPhone 4s to my new iPhone 5s and some of my push notifications (like from AP Mobile, Dark Sky, Weather) stopped working. These notifications still arrive on my iPad 3, so that's how I know that there are notifications that I am missing.
What I've tried: I've deleted, for example, the AP Mobile app, restarted the phone and then reinstalled the app from the cloud. I've repeatedly turned off its settings and turned them on in the Notification area of Settings. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Should I have done a sync with iTunes after I deleted the app?
What still works: turning on an app's push notifications for the first time works as expected, and the push notifications from Apple's own iOS7 apps work fine.

  • Enabling push notifications has not worked

I have downloaded Viber on Iphone 4 and reinstalled twice and push notifications are on, but I cant get past the window notifying me that 'push notifications need to be turned on'
What can I do to make this work please

Try the Apple troubleshooting tips here -> iOS: Understanding Notifications
    Troubleshooting notifications
Push notifications require an active Wi-Fi or cellular connection. If you are not receiving notifications for a specific app, try these steps:
Verify that the app supports notifications.
After installing an app or restoring a backup to a different iOS device, open the app at least once to begin receiving notifications.
If the app requires entering or logging in to an account, you will need to do this before receiving notifications.
Check Settings > Notifications to ensure that the app is configured for notifications.
If notifications do not appear only in the Notification Center, verify that the Notification Center setting for the app is enabled.
If you are still unable to receive notifications and you are using a Wi-Fi connection, verify that the network or firewall is not blocking access to port 5223.
If that doesn't do it, check out Vibers support article -> Push Notifications for iPhone - How to enable
You can email them notifications test results.

  • Push notification from an app that doesn't appear in notification settings

I recently upgraded the OS and all my apps on my iPhone.  Now I am getting push notifications from an app called geared.  I want to turn these off, so I go to Settings->Notifications and from there I want to go to Geared but there is no Geared button.  And yet this app is sending me push notifications.  It's very annoying.  How can I turn these off?  I'm on an iPhone 3G running iOS 4.1.2.

    Hi Jamie,
I am assuming that you have a 32- bit machine. Adobe after effects and Premiere pro are not compatible with 32- bit machine. Please visit the link below for more info.

Yes, I have the latest update for WWF.  I have deleted and reinstalled it about a dozen times. I have contacted the developer, and they said it's not the app.  In doing a search on push notifications for iPhone, I see tons of problems with it. Let's get it fixed!  I have push notifications problems with other apps as well... it's not just WWF.

  • Always connected on server of push notifications from Apple

I have a App that show me all stablished connections in my IPHONE 4,
and the webserver of push notification is always connected even with the Notification turned off.
    Why?
    Can it drain battery?!

UPDATEIn Whatsapp I unpluggged th eoption "show chat in the messages folder" and now when I get a new Whatsapp message, in the home screen I get the notification from the app (and not from Messages) but without the preview?!

  • Does a push notification use wifi if my iPhone was asleep?

When my phone is awake all Internet access is via wifi. The wifi turns off when the phone sleeps and then starts again when it wakes up; BUT there is a slight pause. So if my phone is asleep does the push notification wake the phone up then wait briefly for the wifi to connect before accessing the Internet? Or does the push notification "see" that the wifi isn't immediately available and start a 3G session?

If all you did was remove it from the device list (by clicking the "x" next to the device name), it should reappear on the device list automatically if it ever goes back online.  Read point number 3 under "Remove an iOS device...on which you can't turn off Find My iPhone" here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmfc0eeddd.

  • IPad 2 push notifications don't work on home wifi network

I have a new iPad 2 and I'm trying to use imo.im for instant messaging. however, in most cases, I do not get push notifications for new messages at all, and when they do appear, they are delayed by several minutes. I installed the push test app and am getting the same results. Usually, it will work for a couple minutes if I turn off the wifi and re-enable it on the iPad, but then it stops working again.
I have changed the dns servers on both the ipad and my router to use google's servers, but that still doesn't fix it. Push notifications do seem to work on other wifi networks, so it seems like it's something with my router, but I can't figure out what it is.
    Thanks!

I'd like to add one more data point. I tried the exact same tests on my iPhone 4, but did not get the exact same results. First of all, all push notifications work fine on my iPhone using 3G. When I connected to my home wifi network where I experience the problem with my iPad, push notifications worked, but were slightly delayed compared to the 3G connection.
So it seems like the problem is on the iPad when it's connected to this specific network. Also, after using it more, the push notifications seem to come and go randomly, so it's hard to predict when they will stop working.

  • IPhone 4 push notification delay

    Hi guys,
I have a problem with iPhone push notifications for the last two weeks. I use the same wifi network at home and in the office and the same devices (MacBook Pro with retina display, iPad 3rd gen and iPhone 4). While the iPad and MacBook Pro receive iMessages, Emails, Twitter and Facebook notifications and all the other notifications at the same time, the iPhone receives it 5–10 mins later or even more.
I have push turned on. I have tried to restore the iPhone and restored data from the backup (because I need data on it). I don't know what is the reason and why it started happening. I haven't install new apps this time or changed settings etc.
Any ideas? iPad and iPhone has the same iOS 5.1.1. Mac has the latest Mountain Lion 10.8.1 as well.
I saw people saying it's the problem of iOS 5.1.1, but iPad works fine in my case, so the problem might me different.

Okay, if you set up Gmail and Yahoo mail in the Exchange fashion, then push should work. However, there have been a number of posts on this and other forums about the failings of Yahoo push for some time now. I would believe this could be your issue with that. As far as Gmail, if you have push set up correctly in all the areas for that and it is set up for the Exchange version, it should work. I do not use either of these mail providers, so I cannot make comments based on personal experience. As far as Facebook is concerned, I would suggest turning off the notification and then turning it back on again. I use Facebook but not push notifications as it is not that important to me, however there is a section in Settings, Facebook and that sets push notifications.
If none of this corrects your Facebook issue, I suggest a restore. When connected to iTunes, you can click on Restore. Make sure you do a backup of the iPhone, you sync your contact and calendar data to the supported application on the computer and import photos from the camera roll. Try a restore from a backup first, and if that doesn't work, then a restore as a new device. Then sync information back to the iPhone from iTunes.

  • Push notifications and GPS not working on wifi - please help

    Hi,
I have an iPhone 4 with at&t (US) and latest iOS. but I am outside the US for a month and I have put the phone in airplane mode so that I don't receive phone calls or texts (I can choose not to answer phone calls but apparently I will receive the texts no matter what unless I put it in airplane mode)
But I still use the iphone for everything else. I have the wi-fi on and I have my own wi-fi network where I'm staying.
    but i'm having problems:
    1. I do not get any push notifications on my iphone. I have not modified much from the default wifi router settings. all i have done is set a WPA TKIP password. all the other settings are the default. no port filter or firewalls on the router as far as i can see.
    2. google maps is not able to pinpoint my location. I can see the maps fine. but when i hit the button to locate my position, it tries for a while and then says "cannot determine location".
    3. after a while with the iphone in 'sleep mode' (i.e. the screen is off - the phone is not off), when I turn the screen back on and try the use the iphone with the wifi, the internet no longer works although it shows that it is connected to the wifi network. then I have to go to the settings on my iphone for the wifi network and hit 'renew lease' for the internet to work again on my iphone. this is really annoying....
.. and *I do not have any of these problems when I'm on anyone else's wifi network*. so, I'm guessing this has something to do with my personal wifi connection at home.
can someone help me figure this out?
the wi-fi router is an Aztech HW550-3G. and the broadband connection is from a WiMax internet modem.

    Julian.

Your problem is there is no record of where your base station is. Since you have airplane mode on your phone cannot use the gps receiver or the mobile network to pinpoint the location. For the location of the base station to be known it needs to be recorded in a database on the internet.
Instead of turning on airplane mode, remove the SIM from the iPhone. With airplane off and no SIM you will be able to use GPS but not make or receive phone calls and text. It may also update the location database with your base station location, but I cannot confirm it.
