Iphone 4 won't boot up

I plug in my iphone 4 and the battery symbol shows pretty much dead but it won't boot up, never takes a charge - new battery.  Is the motherboard fried?

Charger is faulty or battery is faulty. Try different charger. Make Genuis reservation and take iPhone to Apple for quick (minutes) free battery diagnostic testing.

  • My iPhone won't boot up anymore, help?

Hi, I'm Lee! My iPhone will not boot up, and I don't know what did it. My friend said his iPod won't come on because he charged it on a friend's XBOX overnight, and so did I. I really don't know if the XBOX did it, but it's possible. The other day I turned it off to save power, and when I tried to turn it on, it wouldn't completely boot up. The Apple logo shows up for about a minute and then the loading symbol comes up and just keeps going and it won't ever get to the lock screen. I've tried to restore it. It won't show up in iTunes so I heard about putting the device in Recovery Mode to make it recognizable. It made it show up, but every time I tried to restore it gave me error codes like 21, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, and 1604. My iPhone was on 5.0.1 and at the Restore page in iTunes that only had options to Update and Restore. Update was grayed out, and there should be an update to 5.1. Then today when I tried restoring it the message at the top was stuck on "Verifying iPhone restore with Apple..." iTunes isn't frozen on "Verifying iPhone restore with Apple," it just won't say anything else. I've tried everything and nothing works. I've even tried holding the Power and Home buttons forever, and still, nothing works. Please help!!

I've read all the error codes already. I've downloaded 5.1 again and tried to restore and it's stuck on "Verifying iPhone restore with Apple" again. After about 10 minutes, iTunes doesn't recognize my iPhone anymore and the tab with my iPhone goes away but it still says "Verifying iPhone restore with Apple" at the top. I'm going to try reinstall iTunes. This should fix things.

  • Iphone won't boot past apple logo

I'm the repair tech at my local radioshack and have a customer phone I can't figure out. When I attempt to power it on, I get the apple logo for 5 seconds, then nothing. I've attempted to put it into DFU mode, and attempted recovery mode, at no avail. I've even tried to boot into safe mode, and the same thing occurs. No matter the power source (wall/computer), I get the same results. Phone is out of warranty, so do not recommend that I bring it to apple - they won't help me here. Any ideas? I need the help!
    iPhone 5s

I See a lot of those on my bench. The cause is the charge IC is burned out usually by a non Apple cable. The only way to get it to fully boot is to put a fresh charged battery in. Once a new fully charged battery is in it will continue to work fine including charging. But if you ever power off the device or it turns off due to dead battery it will not boot up on its own And you will need to swap batteries again.

  • Iphone won't boot.  Is it bricked?

    Hello,
    I have a 3G iPhone still running 3.0.
Tonight I received a text message at about the same time I was dialing a number and it froze my phone.
I have attempted to hard reset it several times and I get the "apple" boot screen but after about a minute it goes away.
Same thing when docking it. I get the apple then it shuts back down.
    Any advice?
    Thanks

Try to connect in recovery mode and restore. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • Iphone won't boot ... possibly fried?

Here's the issue. I cannot get the iphone to boot or do anything for that matter. What happened was I went to put the iphone in the charger and mistakenly sat it in my ipod charger which is connected with firewire. It was no more than 5 seconds when i realized what i did and grabbed it before I could get "oh sh**" out. I saw the apple logo sit on the screen for about 30 seconds and then I put it in the iphone charger. I didn't really look to see if it was charging, but when I hit the home button (I had the phone on), I saw nothing. I hit the power button but nothing happened. I tried the hold power and home for more than 30 seconds and nothing happens. I connected it back to the USB cable and nothing happens. Did this quick connect fry my iphone? It would appear so since I cannot get the phone to do anything.
    Any suggestions? Condolences?

There's clearly something wrong, but it is unlikely that a few seconds with the Firewire charger did it in, especially as Apple says you can charge the iPhone from a Firewire port (It's in the tutorial on syncing; it says "Firewire can be used for charging only, not for syncing.")
If the Apple logo doesn't come up after holding the Home and Sleep buttons for 10 seconds and doesn't go into Recovery mode after 30 seconds you need to take it to an Apple store to get it fixed or call Apple iPhone support.

  • IPhone won't boot past white apple

I have quite a few (over 30) applications installed on my iphone. I deleted a bunch of useless ones on the phone yesterday, and then went into settings and noticed the phone seemed to be stalled (settings screen was blank for a long time). After awhile, I reset the phone by holding down the home button and the standby until the white apple appeared.
The problem is that the phone never got past the white apple. Even after waiting an extremely long time. And even after trying numerous hard resets. Furthermore, the phone does not show up in iTunes when connected to my mac, but iPhoto does launch automatically to pull in photos. But since I can't get the phone to show up in itunes, I can not even restore it.
I am running an original iPhone, with firmware 2.0 (havent upgraded to 2.0.1 yet).
does anyone know of a way to snap my phone out of this? Some special key combination that goes beyond the standard hard reset i have been trying? Is there some way to force it into a "recovery mode" or something like that?

I have a first-gen iPhone that worked near flawlessly for a year, until I upgraded the iPhone to 2.0. Ever since, I have been dismayed with Apple's lack of progress fixing my issue. My phone has quite a few apps as well. I also fear using them, because occasionally (about twice per week for way too many weeks) it will break down and not get past the white Apple logo. It always requires a restore in DFU mode to get it working again. All of my apps work until the kill switch is turned. It happens at random intervals and with no particular app. It is not a hardware problem. I have met the same results with another guaranteed-working iPhone. I have restored w/ and w/o backups- no luck.
Can anyone recommend a way to work around this problem? This is my phone and I can't have to do this so often.
    Thanks.
P.S. It's worth noting that I get about 400 errors on every sync. The 3 that are repeated every few seconds are the following (copied from the console):
8/16/08 6:55:18 PM [0x0-0x1e61e6].com.apple.iTunes[3712] MobileDevice: AMDeviceStopSession: Could not stop session with device: kAMDSuccess

  • IPhone 2g won't boot up AT ALL ?!

I was going to charge my iphone on the dock, when i put it in the dock, suddenly, the screen goes all black. I hit the sleep button to boot it, but it won't boot. I tried the home button and the sleep button wont work. So went to apple.com for support, and they said to hold on the home button, while holding you add the usb cable to the iphone and then iTunes will recognize it. So i tried what apple.com told me.. but the iphone won't boot up at all! Not even a apple logo shows on the screen.. HELP PLEASE?

There are two thing you can try to solve this:
    =================================
First you can try to do this: Reset Apple Finder
    =================================
    - shut down your Mac
    - start it again with holding down the shift key (OSX will start in "save mode")
    - go to this folder: Macintosh HD/Users/___/Library/Preferences
*Macintosh HD is the name off the HD, can be different on you Mac.
*___ is your own user name
    - search for this file and delete it: com.apple.finder.plist
*By deleting the file you will reset the finder settings, this will solve the problem. There won't change anything for you after deleting the file. This file contains only settings the system made by it self. But now your Mac will start properly again and make a new com.apple.finder.plist file
Now restart you iMac without holding the shift key, so just a normal start-up. Now Your Mac should start normal again!
    =================================
If this did not work, you can try this: Repair the Disk Permissions:
    =================================
    -Search your installation DVD's.
-Insert the disc 1 and sthut down your Mac
-Start your Mac again while holding down the C key
-Now your Mac should boot from the CD, this can take some time.
-After a while you will see a installation screen where you can chose a language.
    -Chose English and continue.
-Then click some time's next and agree with the "Software Agreement".
    -Open Disk Utility.
You can find it on top in menu Utilities > Open Disk Utility.
-Select your hard disk in the list of disks and volumes on the left side
-Go to the First Aid (tab somewhere on the right).
-Click the button to verify the permissions.
-Then Click the button to repair the permissions.
-Exit the Disk Utility and the installer.
Last thing you can do now is hoping your mac will start fine.
Hopefully this is helpfull or solved your problem.

  • Iphone 4s won't boot on and itunes doens't detect it when on battery. Plug it in and Apple logo appear then disappear, try to recover, but there's a 1602 error. Is it dead?

Iphone 4s won't boot on and itunes doens't detect it when on battery. Plug it in and Apple logo appear then disappear, try to recover, but there's a 1602 error. Is it dead?

  • Iphone 5 won't boot up

My Dad's iPhone 5 won't boot up. It only shows the iTunes symbol/lightning cable symbol. I've connected it to my own laptop with a current version of iTunes and it asked me to update or restore the device. I tried updating (since he didn't want to lose his photos, etc. with a restore), fully downloading the 1.7ish GB file, but the phone displayed the apple logo and a gray bar underneath and my iTunes gave the following error:
"The iPhone "iPhone" could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (27)."
    And then this:
"Your iPhone can't be update; you must restore it to factory settings.
If you previously backed up the iPhone, click Restore Backup after the restore process completes."
I would do a restore but my Dad doesn't use a computer so he hasn't done any backups and he hopes for a chance to recover the data from the phone. Is there any way to access and recover the data without the phone booting up properly? Could an Apple tech at a genius bar be able to recover the data? I don't want to wipe it if there is any hope.
Help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

The iPhone is in recovery mode and the data is gone. You must restore as new and the phone will be wiped. If your dad had iCloud backup on, you might be able to get the data back.

  • My iphone four won't boot up in itunes. Help!

    Hi there,
My laptop recently had a software update and went wrong, so took in the apple store. They rebooted the system and cleaned it up, but now my iphone four won't boot up in Itunes. Any thoughts on what I can do?
    Thanks very much in advance.

I am in a Mac but I am having a similar problem with my iPod Touch (3g) and iPad 1.  Tried everything in the support article, including uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes.  When I did that, it worked for two syncs and then stopped working.  It does charge the device, and it opens iPhoto and I can import photos from the device to the computer, but not the other way. Have tired different cables, and no help.  It does sync to my windoze computer at work no problem.  All started after reinstalling Snow Lepoard.  OS and iTunes all up to date.

  • My ipod touch 2nd gen 8 gb won't boot! (I did hold home and power)

So my ipod touch 2nd gen 8 gb won't boot. It never really fell on the ground it was not jailbroken and I had it for almost a year. Yes I have googled it, yes I holded home and power button at the same time,  basically did almost everything possible. I'm thinking it's the battery but might be something else. If you recognize this problem and know how to solve it, please reply here. I also can't connect to itunes in case your wondering

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • DVD drive won't boot from Leopard or Tiger disks

    Hi,
I have had some issues booting from the OS install disks with my DVD drive, is it the drive or is it the software?
    Can this be fixed?
    Thanks
    Tom

There are known issues with some Leopard discs not booting, but if your Tiger disc won't boot either, I would say you probably have a defective optical drive.
