IPhone 4 won't update to iOS8.2

For some reason my iPhone 4 (yes I know it's old!) won't acknowledge that it needs an OS update. It says that iOS 7.1.2 is still up to date. However I'm pretty sure that the iOS 8.2 is out and it should be updated to that. Is there any reason this is happening? Can anyone help? I am using a couple of apps on my phone that require the new OS.

Why?
Are there any whizzy new features (that the hardware can support) that you actually need.
My 4S has upgraded easily this week nearly a month after everyone else, and is still speedy enough (no performance failures seen) that its functionality remains all I need.
Don't use Fitness, wont need a Watch so...

My apps on iPhone 5 won't update after installation of ios8.

    Hi davieg502,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that it can be frustrating when your iTunes or App Stores do not function the way you would expect, especially with application updates. In this situation I would recommend the steps located in the attached article to start the troubleshooting process.
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
If the issue persists, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi networks and connections.
    Cheers,
    Joe

  • IPhone 5s won't update to iOS 8.0.2

My iPhone 5s won't update to iOS 8.0.2. I had been using beta versions of iOS 8 but even though there is a '1' in the Software Update box, it tells me my software is up to date (iOS 8).
However, I also get messages telling me my current iOS will expire in x days. I now have dozens of apps waiting to update, telling me I have to upgrade to iOS 8.0.1 or later.
I've tried to manually install iOS 8.0.2 but I get a message saying the firmware isn't compatible.
    Any ideas?

Ask in the developer forum; someone there should be able to help you.

  • My iPhone 5 won't update/install apps !! Any idea why ?

I own an iPhone 5, an iPhone 4s and an iPad 2.
They are all not jailbroken and are all running on ios 6.0.1
While my iPhone 4s and iPad 2 have no problem updating existing apps or installing new apps, my iPhone 5 won't update/install apps all !!
To be fair, about 2 week ago, all my iPhone 5 update/install won't work but after a day or two, they started downloading.
But now, my iPhone 5 updates and installations have been stalled for a week.
What is happening ? Can anybody please help ? Thanks.

    Okay fixed it:
First of all make a backup and sync your iPhone in iTunes.
Next reinstall your iPhone using DFU mode:
(FIND HOW 2 GET IN DFU MODE ON GOOGLE, APPLE DO NOT ALLOW TO PUT IN LINKS HERE :-( )
Then choose to put your latest backup back on your iPhone.
And voila you should see you now can recieve updates from App Store.
    (It worked for me)

  • My iphone 4s won't update to ios 6! please help!

My iphone 4s won't update to ios 6! I tried by my iphone it takes so long updating then it ends saying error!! I tried by using iTunes too, when it's done and installing it says error too!! this got me crazy!! any solution ? please help!

I got instructions to connect my iPhone4 to iTunes. Each time I was prompted to restore the phone, I ended up getting an error message that the iPhone could not be restored. I checked that I had the latest version of iTunes-I did. I tried two more times and got the same error message. I disconnected the usb/phone, closed iTunes, and restarted the computer. This time the restore worked and iOS6 loaded. Unfortunately, the last backup to iCloud that I was told I had was in June. Don't know why this happened as it should have backed up every day. Now I am working through restoring my settings and apps from the last three months. Thankfully, I didn't 'upgrade' my iPad, so I have a template off of which to work. I hope this helps.

  • IPhone 4 won't update email or send texts

My iPhone 4 won't update my email, send texts or show my call log.  Restarting hasn't helped

Update (for anyone else who has had this problem):
A few days ago, my iPhone decided to get its act together and fixed itself.
I had seen some indications out there in researching this that if you just give it time, it will correct itself.
Low and behold, after checking in on it every couple days, it finally started downloading and updating correctly.
I don't know that I can really offer anything to do or not do.
All I did was just not worry about downloading new apps, or updating the current ones.
Didn't sync with iTunes/Outlook, and just used the phone in the condition it was in.
After several days, it went back to normal.
I have several educated guesses on what may have caused it, but nothing at all definitive.
Anyhow, there you are: apparently the solution is to do nothing, and let the iPhone sort out its own problems.

  • IPhone 5 Won't Sync After iOS8 Update

I have updated to iOS8 & now I'm unable to sync my iPhone 5 with iTunes 11.4. I initially did the update via OTA & noticed the problem, so I downloaded the ipsw file & did a restore. I then setup the iPhone from my last backup & the problem was still there, this time I was unable to sync most of my apps & none of my music collection. I now currently on the second restore & this time I'm going to try setting the iPhone up as "new" & then try to restore the apps etc manually instead.
Has anyone else either on an iPhone 5 or another iPhone who has updated to iOS8 experienced this problem too?

This appears to be a common problem. In fact, so common, it can't be accidental (see My MacBook won't sync my iPhone since I downloaded IOS8, is anyone else experiencing the same problem?) It appears to be a deliberate ploy, that, in my opinion, amounts to commercial blackmail, by Apple. I've been a loyal user of Mac products for almost 15 years since I bought my first ipod and MacBook. Today, I have an ipad2, iphone 5 and 6 and a MacBook of an older generation, lovingly cared for, carefully nurtured but well past its sell by date...according to Apple. So my operating system has gone as far as it can go. But still I refuse (I cant afford) to budge. So get itunes 12, someone suggests. Can't. It doesn't operate on my size of MacBook, the ones Apple wants to forget. Y'know, the ones they built the sales of their company on? So, upgrade to ios8, my iphone5 insisted, your world will be a better place.Buy an iphone6 and all your problems will be solved. U2?
Excuse me, no, it isn't. Now my iphone wont sync and itunes refuses to transfer my musical choices to my devices. Not only that, I can't do a manual backup to my computer, only icloud.
So, I've forked out a heap of money, in good faith, for a product, of Apple's design, that gives me less than what I had before, deprives me of my own music collection (28,000 tracks) and limits me to choose my listening pleasure, only from music bought from itunes. There's something rotten in Silicone Valley.

  • IPhone apps won't update, iTunes Store won't open

I can't figure out why my apps won't update on my iPhone. I have rebooted, deleted the apps that wouldn't update and froze (waiting) and rebooted after that. I may not have the greatest wifi connection ... I am out of town and dependent on hotel/convention center wifi. Went to App Store to reload the deleted apps (some), but same thing.  I saw a response regarding iTunes, went there...took forever for iTunes to open, it kept stating I couldn't access iTunes Store, and after hitting "okay" probably 4 times to confirm that iTunes wouldn't open...it did.  So I thought that was the problem and returned back to App Store and tried to reload just one app.  Well it's been an hour and a half or more, can't reload it. It creeps along and I thought the app was loaded, but no. I can reboot only, not reset because I am no in home like I said. This is more than "fairly frustrating". What the heck can I do?

Do a hard reset by pressing and holding the sleep/wake button and home button together until apple logo appears.

  • IPhone 3G won't update to 2.1; claims unknown error (-19)

Hi guys. Trying to update my vanilla 3G (which was only restored two days ago) to the 2.1 update today and it simply won't update. It manages to download correctly but just after 'extracting' it fails. I've restarted the phone, i've restarted iTunes, swapped USB ports and all i get is this: http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/8817/picture146yk2.png
Any ideas? At the moment i'm doing a massive, long backup with the hope that I will be able to do a restore & update and restore from the backup but I doubt this will work as every backup i've made in the last few months is reportedly 'corrupt'. Would it be worth phoning Apple support?
    Thanks,
    Phelim

My friend encountered the same problem with the 2.0 or 2.02 updates. We narrowed it down to the internet connection (believe it or not).
Their macs and dell were networked via a Hawking wireless router setup. Somehow, the iPhone update file would get corrupt and not allow the iphone to update.
When either the mac OR the dell was plugged into the cable modem directly (not the third party Hawking device), the updates went smoothly on both iphones.
And this happened on separate occasions.
I'm not sure if this was due to error or "noise" on the cable connection that somehow were not being corrected or perhaps were being mangled by the wifi device.... but it sure fixed the problem 100%.
Try connecting your computer directly to your broadband modem. See if that allows you to update.
    good luck!

  • IPhone 3GS won't update to 4.3.1

    Hello there,
My iPhone 3GS is on operating system 4.1. There is a newer v4.3.1 but everytime I click the update button it tells me the iTunes version is up to date. I'm not trying to update the iTunes. Just the iPhone system.
Can anyone help? Do I have to be connected to iTunes to update the iPhone system?
    Many thanks for any help.
