Iphone 4 wont restore! (-1) Error!

Just tried to update my mum's phone for her, completed a back up before the software is installed. Now the problem is when I try to restore the phone with the back up I just keep getting the (-1) error and the phone reboots itself.
Has anyone had this problem and is there any way to fix it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is VERY unsound advice. You should always have a current back up of your data. A back up is unrelated to the system software that Apple provides.

I've had this two or three times now and always seems to stem from a software update for the iPhone that doesn't work properly. This may then coincide with a loss of all my music etc from the ipod function. To be honest I've tried all the forum restore suggestions and nothings worked. I am now on my second iPhone and am going back to the apple store next week as my second phone has now died from the same problem. Sorry I can't give you a magic fix but I really don't think there is one. Sure talk to the apple helpline but all the diagnostics don't seem to be able to help with this problem.

Iphone wont restore, unknown error .

My iphone has been wiped so trying to restore connecting via itunes, it freezes on the apple logo so i did the switch to DFU mode, an "unknown error" pops up on itunes and says cannot connect/restore etc.

Iphone 4 wont restore - 1601 error

Iphone 4 - 4.1 factory unlocked - bought in Switcerland! - 1 mount old.
Issue: Iphone started to power off every 2 every hours and going in to the restore mode! Done a 4-5 restores on 4.1! But know it wont restore. It gives me
error 1601 - and wont pass itunes screen Preparing iphone for restore!
And also itunes recognizes iphone only in dfu mod! I tried in recovery mode
but itunes didnot recognized my iphone - tried on 3 difernt computers(windows platform)
I have tried almost everything! Change usb port,3 differnt computers ,reinstaling itunes, cleaning the registry after uninstall, tinyumbrella - to kick device, etc.
Anyone any suggestions? If it is a hardvare issue, will Apple accept warranty
because a got this iphone 4 for birthday - ( it is used in another country).
Also it is registered on my name!

apple only provides warranty in the country that the phone was purchased in so you will have to go there to get a warranty replacement

I'm not sure if you were restoring your iphone from back up if so, see below...
When restore from back up fails due to running out of hard drive space it does NOT clean up after itself. You have to do this manually.
Look in the folder Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup - here you will see folders that directly relate to your backups, all matching up with the times of your backups, and you will also see a folder or folders relating to your restore attempts, again matching up with times that you attempted your restore. I did this last night, so I know that you are quite safe to delete the folder with the time relating to when you attempted your restore - just don't delete your actual back up.
You are going to need the same amount of space as the back up folder that you are wanting to restore so it's worth checking how big this is and freeing up an equal amount of space before re-attempting.

HELP my iPhone wont restore!!!!

I connected my iPhone to my MacBook and as usual he connects with iTunes.
My iTunes asked for an update on the software of the phone. I confirmed and the process started.
The update stopped but before finishing.
I can't start up my iPhone and when I connect it to my iTunes he asks to restore.
He starts restoring but then stops and gives an error 1611.
Can somebody help me??? I have no idea what happend and how to restore this.

READ ALL OF THESE NOTES THROUGH AND THROUGH TWICE before proceeding. You'll need to somewhat anticipate the next steps as you're doing this!
1. Use a second computer and install iTunes... (DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT uninstall iTunes from computer #1 (AKA) the computer you are having the issues with. (You may lose ALL of your iPhone info which is saved on computer #1. The info is already gone from your iPhone, so you will have to restore it!)
2. On computer number 2, once iTunes is installed, hook up your iPhone. iTunes should tell you that it has found an iPhone in restore mode and it must be restored. Go through all of the steps until your iPhone is successfully restored. It should be very easy and iTunes will walk you through it. This will delete ALL of your info on your iPhone (which is really already lost) and it will get the iPhone back to the factory settings (just like it was the day you bought it)...
3. If you keep getting errors saying the iPhone can't be restored, re-install iTunes on computer #2 and try again. (I REPEAT, DO NOT UNINSTALL ITUNES FROM COMPUTER #1) or any computer you may have synced your phone to previously.
If reinstalling iTunes doesn't fix this and you still can not get the iPhone to restore, go to a 3rd computer and try until you get the iPhone restored to factory settings.
4. DO NOT PLUG YOUR iPhone INTO COMPUTER #1 YET!
Once the iPhone is successfully restored to its factory settings, walk back to computer #1. AGAIN, DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR iPhone YET!!
5. On computer #1 open iTunes. Go to Edit/Preferences/Devices and check the box that says "prevent iPhones/iPods from syncing automatically". If this is not checked your iPhone may sync to a corruped restore point and you'll have to start over and re-restore your iPhone.
*Note the device backup window on this screen. There should be at least one date and time from when you previously restored your iPhone. If not, you are probably screwed. Click OK and close that window.
6. Plug in your iPhone and let it do whatever it does. Now, on the left hand side of iTunes RIGHT mouse click on your iPhone icon. Click "restore from backup"
There will be a drop down menu that lets you select from your previous sync dates. AGAIN, if you haven't synced you could be screwed.
Select a date from you which you think the iPhone will work, and click RESTORE.
This should restore your iPhone back to that sync date.
This worked for me!!

Apple Confirms BRICKED iPhone(s) [Restore Mode Error]

Well this is the end of the problem I had from yesterday if some of you were around yesterday you might have seen my posts about taking the 2.1 update causing a RESTORE MODE error on my phone.
APPLE employee 'COLIN' and his manager which WILL REMAIN nameless confirmed when i brought my phone in that yes this infact does happen to multiple people. infact it happened to the manager himself of this washington apple store.
In conclusion If you have an error that causes your phone to be in a restore state and black screens on bootup with a iTunes symbol and USB cable, making sure ALL iTunes software should be properly updated fully before trying to reset to factory settings.
This problem was resolved and was just letting everyone know if this error occurrs to you it's fixable by apple or yourself with iTunes. Thank you all for you help, and tips it made this proccess alot smoother.
