IPhone 4S 10x slower than iMac

Good day,
I have iPhone 4S and 27" iMac (Quad i7) on same wifi network, currently both sitting about 6 inches away from Time Capsule on same wifi network (all hardware is up to date with firmware/OS software).  Were both working fine for last couple of days, but today the iPhone is over 10X slower than the iMac.  From SpeedTest.net I'm getting over 30 Mbps down on the iMac, only 1.3 (at best!) from the iPhone.  "4G" on At&t currently getting me 3.5 Mbps down on the iPhone.  Have done hard reboots of phone and Time Capsule, still getting same results.
Anyone have any sugguestions as to what might be going on and how to fix it?
Thanks!

6" is too close.. wireless stuff should have 2M at least.. having both items so close is not helping at all. Perhaps you are just showing how extreme the problem is and what you are trying to do to fix it.
If you are on lion, first thing is download the tool utility.. not use the toy.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Go into the wireless setup.
Change wireless names, short, no spaces.. pure alphanumeric.
In advanced change the 5ghz wireless name..
ie TC24ghz and TC5ghz work fine.. GLFifer's TC 2.4ghz is not.
Fix and lock the wireless and channels.
There are exactly 3 non-overlapping wireless channels at 2.4ghz (unless you are in Europe and you can just squeeze in 4), 1, 6, 11 (13 in ETSI).
Lock to one of those.. test.. then try the next one.
You can fix the 5ghz as well although it isn't as serious.
BTW use 5ghz when available as it is much faster.
Iphone is only 2.4ghz. Having just the iphone and not sharing it with imac will help.

  • My iPhone 5 is slower than my iPhone 4s.

My iPhone 5 is slower than my iPhone 4s. I have been using the iPhone 5 for about four days.
    1. I live in a very populated area of Texas, and I know 4G is available in my area, but I always am connected to 3g.
    2. Everything moves slower on the 5 than the 4s.
       A. Siri speaks in a lower pitched voice. She talks slower. She is more robotic sounding than the 4s.
        B. Siri takes a long time to respond. When I command "Text  George", Siri will spin and clock for 40 seconds to a minute befiore she responds with " Okay, I can text George" . When I speak a text it takes a long time to send.
        C. I have a new 2013 Ford that has Microsoft SYnc. My 4s found the bluetooth device immediately, i put in the pin and it sycned great and worked great. When I attempted to sync my new 5, it took a long time for the 5 to conect with my car. After entering the Sync pin, it took a long time to connect.
I called Verizon and the customer service rep states he had a call with the same problem earlier today.
I did erase all settings and re-activated the phone, but it is still slow.
Furthermore, I gave my old 4s to my son, and I still can use it.  I can have the two phones next to each other and the 4s works fine...the 5 is slow, especially with Siri use.
I will try to follow up with more info at a later date as I experience more problems

Did you set up your iPhone 5 as new or restore from a backup of your iPhone 4S?
Set it up as new and see if it improves.

  • IPhone 3G operations slower than iPhone 1

While I am browsing the website disappears frequently and the phone goes back to the home screen. Things are also slower than with the iPhone 1. Everything is slower: downloading email, etc. I have synced it recently. iPhone

it's either ATT or Apple and not just your phone. alot of us have the same problem. i'll suggest the same thing i've said to someone else...
if they haven't fixed this by your next billing cycle... tell them they can deduct the $30 data cost from your bill until they've resolved it or you're not paying.
Apple and ATT are making a killing on these phones, and they will try to avoid reembursing for services they are not providing. let them know that if they want to see $$$ they need to provides the services listed under the contract.

  • MacBook Pro slower than iMac wifi

My MacBook Pro (2 yrs old), is MUCH slower on our wifi network, than my imac (5 yrs old).
The MBP is actually closer to the router, and when I run speedtest.net, the imac is showing better/faster results than the MBP.
    Any ideas would be great.
    thanks

The operating systems are the same, as well as browsers. This has been going on for some time now. I notice it especially when updating software, like iphone, from the Apple servers via itunes or app store.
Regular web browsing with Safari is also much slower on the MBP. I usually have it connected to the power cord too, so that's probably not it. any other ideas?
    Ill try disabling IPv6
    thanks!

  • MBP slower than iMac on wifi

My MacBook Pro (2 yrs old), is MUCH slower on our wifi network, than my imac (5 yrs old)>
    How can this possibly be?
    thanks

I measured the speeds by using them at the same time. The MBP was not loading pages, or the ones it was loading were taking FOREVER. While the imac was breezing through pages. Apple.com for example.
This is not a new issue, i've noticed it in the past.
Also, updating apps. The MBP was taking an absurdly long time, while the imac breezed through it.

  • Malloc()/free() performance in JNI C code 9-10x slower than C application

I posted this as a bug report, but thought it might be worth also seeking advice here.
I'm working on a product under Windows which is integrated using JNI to a 3rd party file format conversion C++ library which uses a lot of new/delete (malloc/free) calls. I found the performance to be dramatically slower when running under Java compared to a standalone executable.
After many steps, I eventually wrote a small C program which simply loops over many malloc/free calls for 16 bytes, and took an average time. I found when I run this C program in a cmd.exe window, it runs about 9-10 times faster than if it is executed via JNI (Java calls the routine just once).
I can only guess that the JVM is somehow over-riding malloc/free, but this is an extremely high performance penalty. I found under Java 6, the JNI code runs about 5x slower, which is an improvement, but still very slow.
Does anyone know if this behaviour is expected?
    Cheers,
    David
    EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
    EXPECTED -
I would have expected that the performance of malloc/free to be the same regardless of whether my native code is executing inside a JNI call, or as an ordinary program.
    ACTUAL -
For Java 1.5.0_0-b03, some example timings in milliseconds (Pentium 4 1.8GHz):
    0.004461
    0.004494
    0.004498
    For Java 1.6.0-b105:
    0.002367
    0.002375
    0.002366
When run as a process in a cmd.exe window:
    0.000487
    0.000497
    0.000489
    REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.

The speed of which Java executes is highly dependent on what device you are running it on. For example we have noted that a number of our J2ME programs run very slowly on many Motorola implementations, however that exact same code runs increadible fast on Nokia phones.
You can't really make a broad sweeping statment like C# is faster than Java and vice versa. All you can really say is that on this specific device with this version of the VM running this application, C# is faster. Changing any of those parameters may result in a significantly different result.
Really it comes down to what does the device manufacturer really want to support. Nokia has put a lot of effort into their J2ME platforms. As a result, their VM implementations are getting better (and faster) with every release. Other manufacturers are not making this same kind of commitment and as a result, their handsets are less optimal for running J2ME applications.
So I guess the short answer is. Your question cannot be answered until you identify the version of the device, and the specific version of the VM you ran your test on.
By the way, if you ran it on an Emulator, all bets are off. Performance on the Emulator and performance are usually different and can be significantly different.
    Cheers,
    Angus

  • Query In SP runs 10x slower than straight query - NOT Parameter Sniffing Issue

    Hi Everyone,
I have a real mystery on my hands that appears to be a parameter sniffing issue with my SP but I think is not. I have tried every parameter sniffing workaround trick in the book ( local variables, option recompile, with recompile, optimize for variables,UNKNOWN,
table hints, query hints, MAXDOP, etc.) I have dropped indexes/recreated indexes, updated statistics, etc. I have restored a copy of the DB to 2 different servers ( one with identical HW specs as the box having the issue, one totally different ) and the SP
runs fine on those 2, no workarounds needed. Execution plans are identical on all boxes. When I run a profiler on the 2 different boxes however, I see that on the server having issues, the Reads are around 8087859 while the other server with identical HW,
the reads are 10608. Not quite sure how to interpret those results or where to look for answers. When the sql server service is restarted on the server having issues and the sp is run, it runs fine for a time ( not sure how long ) and then goes back to its
snail pace speed. Here is the profile trace:
Here is the stored procedure. The only modifications I made were the local variables to eliminate the obvious parameter sniffing issues and I added the WITH NOLOCK hints:

    Hello,
If you're in a country where there's an apple shop (unfortunately not mine), go check it and ask the employee about it: he's gonna check your Iphone on a "device"
I've got an iphone 5 and it's working very well with me but I have to admit that its battery lasts (slower) than my Ipad 2.
Still i can help with some tips that may improve your iohone's battery by an hour in addition (hopefully):
    - close all apps by multitasking....
    - do NOT keep the brightness to the max
Believe me you're gonna regret changing your phone to a samsung
Hope i've helped and sorry for my bad english (has english as 3rd language)

24" iMac running slower than when I bought it.

It would help us to help you if we could have some more technical info about your iMac.
If you so choose, Please download, install and run Etrecheck.
Etrecheck was developed as a simple Mac diagnostic reporting tool by a regular Apple Support forum user and technical support contributor named Etresoft.
Etrecheck is a small, unobstrusive app that compiles a static snapshot of your entire Mac hardware system and installed software.
This is a free app that has been honestly created to provided help in diagnosing issues with Macs running the new OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
It is not malware and can be safely downloaded and installed onto your Mac.

  • I just restored my 24 inch imac and it seems to be running MUCH slower than before. Any Ideas why? thanks in advance for your help!

I have erased and restored my 24 inch Intel iMac. I have upgraded to the last version of X os. My system is running WAY slower than it was before. Even opening windows seems to lag and the spinning wheel come up for everything. Every task is slow, even typing this! lol
    Here are my specs:
    Model Name:          iMac
      Model Identifier:          iMac8,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2.8 GHz

      Boot ROM Version:          IM81.00C1.B00
      SMC Version (system):          1.30f1
Any ideas would be helpful. Is this a hardware issue?
    Thanks!

    Matt:
Thanks for the update. It is good to know that the maintenance procedures helped. Regular maintenance and a good backup are key to computer security. Gulliver's article has a suggested schedule. Dr. Smoke's FAQ on Backup and Recovery has excellent information and advice. I part company with him on his insistence on Retrospect, which I have found to be difficult to use. SuperDuper has been shown the best backup software in these tests.
If you usually leave your computer on or asleep, it is good practice to shut down and start up in Safe Mode occausionally. I do it about once weekly.
    Good luck.

  • Is the performance of iOS 6 on iPhone 4 slower than iOS 5?

Is the performance of iOS 6 slower than iOS 5 on iPhone 4 (GSM) ?

I haven't upgraded after a visit to my local Apple store. On playing with the iPhone 5, I found Safari to be very slow so I logged on to their wifi on my 4s running 5.1.1 and loaded the same uncashed webpage on both. iPhone 5 18 seconds and my 4s 8.5!
Hmm, I then tried the same with 2 other 5s, exactly the same. Next I tried a demo 4s running 5.1.1 and it was he same as mine.
Lastly, today I tried a friend's 4s  running ios6 and it was way slower than the iPhone 5s in the Apple store.
Conclusion? Keep away from ios 6 for now.

  • Why is my iPhone 5 S WiFi speed 50% slower than my MacBook Air 2012?

Why is my iPhone 5 S WiFi speed 50% slower than my MacBook Air 2012?

    Hello jagimc,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398
Wi-Fi disconnects, or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including: previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords, recently used Bluetooth accessories, VPN and APN settings.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • Will the iPhone 3Gs 32 GB slower than the 16 or 8 GB 3Gs models

i just want to know that will the 32 gb iphone 3gs will be slower than the mobels with less storage as i had a n97 32 gb wich was slower than the 16 gb n97 mini

    No.
The iPhone 3GS 16GB and 32GB have the same processor, the same amount of RAM, and the same graphics card.
The only difference with the 3GS is the storage capacity.
The same for the iPhone 3G and with the original iPhone.

If you want to clean up your hard drive some, here are some of my tips, also.
Hard drive getting full or near full?
Do a search for and downlaod and install OmniDisk Sweeper and OnyX.
Here are some of my tips for deleting or archiving data off of your internal hard
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Other things you can do to gain space.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive older emails you want to save to disc, Flash drive/s or to ext. hard drive.
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, Flash drive or ext. hard drive and/or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Uninstall apps that you no longer use. If the app has a dedicated uninstaller, use it to completely uninstall the app. If the app has no uninstaller, then just drag it to the OS X Trash icon  and empty the Trash.
Also, if you save old downloaded  .dmg application installer  files, you can either archive and delete these or just delete the ones you think you'll never install, again.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its thing initially, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run all of the processes in the tabs. Let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be thinned out, moved, also, to the external hard drive and then either archived to disc, Flash drive or ext. hard drive and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!
