IPhone 4S 3G on by default after 5.1 update

I'm on 02 in the UK and after the iOS 5.1 update, "Enable 3G" is set to On by default on my IPhone 4S so as I don't have 3G reception where I live I have to go into settings and turn it off to be able to pick up the 2G network signal. I also have an iPhone 4 (for work) and on this phone the Enable 3G setting remains off until I switch it on. Anyone else have this issue?

Before the update I was on 5.0.1 on both the 4s (on O2) and the 4 (Vodafone), if I wanted 3G I had to go to settings and enable 3G by turning it on. The selection was under Settings/General/Network/Enable 3G On/Off. If I left it off then turning the 4s or the 4 completely off and on again made no difference now after the 5.1 update Enable 3G is selected to "On".  If I turn  it Off and then switch the phone off then on again Enable 3G has been set back to "On". This only affects the 4s there has been no change to the way 3G is enabled on my 4.
I always left  3G off unless I need it for data as it severly reduces the battery life, now it seems that if I have switched the phone off at night and switch it back on again in the morning I have to remember to turn off 3G. As I wrote in the original post if 3G is enabled and there is no 3G signal available the phone takes a long time searching for the 2G network. It must be a bug that affects the 4s because the 4 behaves no differently.
I tried turning off Siri to see if that was somehow linked to this but it makes no difference.
So to summarise, on the 4s if I go into Settings/General/Network/Enable 3G  and turn off 3G then cycle the power  when it comes back on Enable 3G has been turned back On and the phone takes a very long time to connect to the O2 network. If I repeat the same action on my iPhone 4 Enable 3G remains off.

  • Iphone 3gs does not turn on after ios 6 update

After the ios6 update, my iphone 3gs does not turn on. I see the apple logo, after a minute, it boots again and i see the logo again. This process seems to continue like a circle. After a search the net, i see that i am not the only one. A quick fix and suggestions please, as i need my phone of course.
Btw, Apple, i know that this is an old hardware and i will buy the new iphone 5 when it is available here in my country in December. But of course, you claşmed this update supports my 3gs, you should immediately find a fix
    Regards..

Well, i don't see an another solution possible; you should try again and again to restore. Btw, my phone seemed to operate strange (even the stock mail app began to crash) so i tried hard reset (home button + sleep/wake button until seeing the apple logo). After that i found my phone again in dfu mode this night so began restoring again now.
It seems that apple didn't tested ios6 enough with the 3GS. I have a 32 GB phone so this will be near 60 gb download from the icloud over my broadband connection.

  • My Iphone 4S doesn't turn on after IOS 7 updates

    Hei guys,
I have an iphone 4S. Few days before the release of IOS7 I managed to download the beta version to my iphone. Everything was going fine until the first update of IOS7. It shuted up completelly. I manage to make it alive again, but today, it got ran out of battery and now I can't turn it on any more. I tried quite a few things. My Itunes recognizes the iphone when I plug it onto my computer, however, everytime I press the hold buttom, it doens't turn on. I've tried holding home and hold buttom as well, but everything I have is a weird screen with a big sort of finger print white in the middle of a black screen.
Do you guys know what I can do in order to solve the problem? I've restored and resetted the iphone as well, but it insists in not turning on.
Thank you guys for your attention
    Leandro

    Hi Enriquedelgado35,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has steps you can take if your iPhone won't turn on without being connected to power:

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • How do i get my iphone 4s out of recovery mode after trying to update to ios 8.1

Okay, so, my iPhone 4s has been crashing a lot lately and I find myself having to reset it several times a day just to get it to stop. IMessages wont send properly and neither will text messages. Today I decided that maybe it keeps crashing because it is not up to date with the latest software. I plugged my phone into my laptop, backed it up and tried to update it... it crashed...  About 90% of the way through the update, my laptop told me there had been an "Unknown Error (6)" ... after 2 hours of continuously trying to update it, and failing miserably, I downloaded ReiBoot... nothing happened... after a further half an hour my phone has now decided to stop showing the "connect to iTunes" thing on the screen. instead, every time I press the lock button or the home button, it comes up with the apple logo as if my phone is turning on, then nothing happens..
After hours of trying everything I could think of I have given up..
CAN ANYONE AT ALL HELP ME?!?! :/ xx

See: Resolve iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support
That error usually means that your computer antivirus is blocking the update.
It can also mean that your phone was jailbroken, or your computer was used to jailbreak some iOS device in the past.

  • Iphone 4 stuck in recovery mode after trying to update

I tried to update my iPhone 4 via iTunes to iOS4.3. and after a while, iTunes gave me a error saying that my iPhone cannot be updated because of an unknown error (10) it's now stuck on a screen showing a USB cable and the iTunes logo. I tried restoring again and now i am getting the unable to restore error 11 message and it is still stuck on the screen showing a USB cable and the iTunes logo. I've also tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling but nothing seems to work.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. thanks.

No, i phoned Apple and they suggested the following:
    1) Power off
    2) Hold down Home button
    3) Simultaenously plug into computer whie holding down Home button
    4) Hit restore button in iTunes
Still does not work for me, but i think my iTunes may haven been corrupted during installation, so will try it on another computer and see if it works. I read error 10, is something to do with iTunes.

  • IPhone 4S stuck in recovery mode after trying to update to iOS 7.

After trying several different things, I still cannot get my phone out of recovery mode. I'm studying abroad and would very much like to not be stuck in Belgium without a phone. I also don't want to go buy a new one if there's a fix for this. I have tried everything from modifying hosts to using TinyUmbrella and it still will not restore. Any ideas?

hi, Dear Dude, I have ever encountered this kind of situation. My iPhone stuck in recovery mode and I try these two methods.
first method is mainmenu--->then,settings--->then,general settings--->then,tap reset option--->then,reset your iPhone
second method is to use iPhone Data Recovery. To me, a computer newbie, it's convenient and useful. It brings my phone back to normal and enables me to recover all my lost data with just one click.
    Either of it can try!

  • Iphone is stuck on boot screen after new IOS6 update

Hi everybody. I have yet, another problem.
When the new IOS (6) was released, i of course recived a notification on my phone about it.
It said that the new operating system was out and my phone was ready to upgrade.
My situation at the time was that i was not connected or even near any wi-fi for my phone to connect to, and i was on a data plan for my phone so either way the data would be downloaded and put onto my iphone
    (I have a regular iphone 4 BTW)
I agreed to upgrade my phone and set it down to handle its business, checking occasionally on its progress, i noticed the progress bar sliding across and thinking: "Ok my phones ugrading, nice and easy, new IOS wonder what apple will fix for me."
Then after a while of updating, my phone screen went black. I tried to turn it on and the "Connect to itunes" screen popped up.
(This was a problem because i wasnt near a computer with itunes)
After reaching one, I attempted to finish updating my phone when a bomb dropped on me.
A pop up in itunes read. (Itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode would you like to restore it.) or something like that) and this surprised me because I had alot stored on my phone
    contacts
    settings
    A TON OF MUSIC
    etc.
And getting over the stress of my problem i restored it.
leading to ANOTHER set of problems
My phone being stuck on the apple screen upon activation
I have tried everything to get my phone to its former glory but nothing has worked  I've held the buttons, ive searched many times on how and nothing has worked.
SO please, if anybody knows what is happening and has ANY Experience please respond
    thanks.
    Vaughn

So you updated the phone without first doing a backup.
Now you want to recover the data that was not backed up?
Ummmm.... there is nothing to recover.
FYI, music has never been a part of a backup, it should already exist in the iTunes library on the computer that the device syncs with.
Also, if the device had been used as designed, all your contacts, notes, calendar entries, etc would be synced with a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.  While this would not eliminated the possibility of data loss, it would certainly minimize the data lost.

  • Why my iPhone 4S keep reseting by itself after iOS 7 update?

    Hello:
This s not funny at all.  After I updated to IOS 7.0.3 couple weeks ago, there s several times my phone is reseting by itself.
When I try to turned ON again, s telling me the battery s dead and need to connect it to the power source.
After connected, is coming back again to the live and telling me the right charge of battery I had before.
Battery it was never empty or close to be. Always is around 50 % of capacity.
This happens on the middle of a call, texting or mailing.
Tell me what I could do to stop this mess up,
    Please.

I tried everything. I restarted it, I putted it on factory settings, I deleted every App but nothing helped.
In Apple Store, they told me that it is a hardware problem and my phone isn't able to use the new iOS 7.1 because my phone is too old but it's only 2,5 years old.
I suspect that something in that conversation was seriously misunderstood.  The iPhone 4S runs iOS 7 without any issues.
If the device has a hardware issue, then it does not matter what version of iOS is on the device, it will not function properly.

  • Iphone 3G intermittently does not ring after 4.01 update

I am having an issue with my Iphone 3G after I've done both the 4.0 and 4.01 updates in that it intermittently will not allow phone calls to go through. The calls get sent to VoiceMail rather than ringing. The phone is not on vibrate. I'm not sure if this may be related to the Wi-fi issues that I've seen posted here. It is intermittent so it's hard to pinpoint when this occurs. Has anyone else had this similar issue and what can be done to fix this? I don't want to upgrade to the Iphone 4. Thanks

This happens to me too, occasionally, and I am on 4.1. I'm new to the iPhone, and there really do seem to be a lot of bugs, for a phone that's supposed to be a leader in the market. Can't say I'm all that impressed.

  • Why my iPhone  4s sound bug become  serious   after i had updated to IOS  8 ?

Why my iPhone4S “sound bug" become very serious after I had upated to IOS 8?

The same reason why you can't use it under iOS5. It's exclusive to devices since the iPhone 4S.
    (for selling new products)
So iPhone 4S, iPad 3, iPhone 5 and iPod Touch 5.
Thinking about other features, you may be interested in 3D-Maps, but there for, you need an A5 CPU or better.
    So iPad2, iPhone 4S, iPad 3, iPhone 5 and iPod Touch 5.

  • IPhone 4S taking forever to sync after iOS 7 update

My iPhone 4S is taking forever to completely sync the back up after updating to the new iOS 7 operating system. It's stuck in step 6 of 6 'waiting for items to copy'. Please help!

I was having this same problem with iPhone 5 with the latest version of iOS 7 and iTunes.  It was just taking forever on the 'waiting for items to copy' step.
I disabled Genius on my iTunes setup, and immediately it resumed and completed that step.  Seems like it was waiting for Genius results that weren't there, or weren't available.
I have a large iTunes library and still like to manually manage the music on my iPhone.
I guess I'll live without Genius until Apple can fix this.
iTunes Genius can cause manual sync of music to iPhone to hang for a long time.

  • Iphone 3G not appearing in Itunes after 4.1 update.

I'm having this problem with my Iphone 3G. I updated to 4.1 and i was going to sync all my apps and music when my iphone wouldn't appear in itunes. I've tried everything restarting my computer and everything i think it is that the ipod services and itunes helper are not running but when i try to turn them on they fail. can anyone help?

I'm having a similar problem. I was running the same update. Not only does I-Tunes fail to recognize my I-Phone, my I-Phone is not operable. It just displays the moving circular icon in the middle of a black screen, as if it's doing something. What a drag.
