IPhone 4S 5.1.1 Battery drain, fixed for my case

I just got a 4S, to replaced my missing iphone 4.
The firware was 5.1, so I upgraded over the air (using the phone alone) to 5.1.1
Then I restored by phone using the back up in iTune.
But I realised my latest backup was in iCloud (I did not backup all apps in iCloud), so I restored with iCloud again, after goto Reset Settings two times.
Starting to use the phone, experiencing very fast battery drain, 1% drop every 2-3 minutes.
at one time I notice the battery was hot and battery drain real fast. I found the reason:
the iCould continue to restore but stuck. Just goto Settings - iCould -Storage & Backup, at the bottom you see iCloud Restoring (or something) then phone..
Just cancel or stop it. Because in my case, all the apss I needed already restored.
Next day I still experiencing very fast battery drain, 1% drop every 2-3 minutes. I tried all the Location Service - System Services - Setting Time Zone (it is on all time (purple)), but actually its not the culpit, my friends has this on and all the time has a purple arrow, no battery drain issue.
Also tried removing email accounts, in my case, it still does not resolve it.
I decided to have a clean upgrade to 5.1.1 (over 890MB) instead of the phone over the air upgrade (50MB+), so I connect the iphone 4S to iTune , has it synced and backup.
Click the restore, and iTune download from apple and wipe/upgrade to 5.1.1 again. Restore it from itune after that (not set as NEW phone),
TA TA!!
All the problem gone.
Hope this help, if you have similar case like me.

It is me again, just to explain that the thing that sems to lock up the computer in step 7 of 7 is "Syncing GEnious Data to iPHone". I don't know if that helps,  but any thoughts appreciated.

  • Iphone 5 Battery Drain ****FIX****!!!!!

Got my iphone on launch day with ATT , been battling this battery drain for awhile! my phone from a full charge wouldnt last till 4pm with basic email reading, some facebook only.
as i was reading through the other thread with 190 replies!! i tried all the following
Restarting from New instead backup - didn't help
Turn off notification lte , all the other goodies the phone come with (come on whats the point?) - didnt help
someone mentioned that they saw a signal on their router blinking constantly while every other device was turned off.
i looked into my network log and what do you know... my iphone 5 constantly is trying to upload  or sync to the icloud account NON STOP every 5 minute or so!!
    THE FIX*
    >General and turn off everything on your icloud account!!! i left my contacts on.
its been two days now and my battery is a day night diffierence!!
my current setting everything is on except bluetooth!
i hope this post will help some other to enjoy the iphone 5 at the best!

I can only relate my experience, but so far my iPhone 5 has shown the best battery life of all the previous phones. The only thing I've done is to let it drain down to about 15%, shut everything down and then restart the phone with the charger and let it charge overnight. This may be old wive's tale/voodoo but it doesn't hurt anything so I always do it with a new phone. My wifi is always on but I don't use bluetooth. Anyway with the same usage as my other iPhones including a little more since it is a new phone to me my battery life has been great.
I didn't get the phone on the first day it was released, it came a week later. In the meantime I was reading that very long thread about battery life and was concerned I might see a problem. So I was keeping an eye on this and have had no problems. There may be individual phones with such an issue but it doesn't seem to be significant, at least we haven't seen reports in the news the way we have about the Maps app!

  • I have just got my new iPhone 4 white and the battery drains quicker than it should. How would I fix this?

I got my new iphone 4 white 32GB today and the battery drains quicker than it should

So based on that you're saying around 6 hours discharge? That sounds about right if you're on the web using 3G. Games and apps eat up the battery faster.
    Talk time:
Up to 7 hours on 3G
Up to 14 hours on 2G (GSM model only)
Standby time: Up to 300 hours
    Internet use:
Up to 6 hours on 3G
Up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi
Video playback: Up to 10 hours
Audio playback: Up to 40 hours
Knowing what you were using it for would help

  • Iphone 3GS 3.1.2 Battery drain problem

    Hi,
Recently i have purchased Iphone 3gs with software 3.1.2. I'm facing a serious problem of battery drain. Without doing anything, the battery drains so fast. Is there is any way to over come this problem?

Here's what I do that usually keeps battery life accurate. Drain the battery till it's dead, charge up full and do a hard reset while it's still plugged in and it usually works. If this fixes it just keep killing the battery and charging it full. If it acts up repeat steps above. Mine works almost everytime when it starts acting up. I was just trying things and this worked. Hope this helps

  • Iphone 4 from sprint and battery drain issues

how many people out there bought a new iphone 4 from sprint and having the rapid battery drain issues?  there is a big thread on the 4s but not as much on the 4 and im trying to decide if its best to just exchange it or try more fixes.

I have the same issue. I am with sprint. The battery goes down in 6 hours, mostly in standby and some emails. I can actualy see the battery meter going down every 30 sec when reading my mails. iCloud is disabled as also push notification. The phone gets also hot. This issue is completely stupid and remember, I had iPhones for the last 3 years. My last one was the 4. It is first time I have such a problem. My friends that have the 4S with AT&T do not have that problem. As a mater of fact, I compared today and mine goes down 50% faster. I will have to return it and switch to another provider.

  • My Battery Drain Workaround for iPhone 4S on 5.0.1

    Hey all,
i suffered from the battery drain issue with my 2 iPhone 4S's. I found that when i used cloud backup and WIFI sync, the WIFI would continously stay on in standby mode, which was draining the battery very quickly.
I turned OFF iCloud Backup AND WIFI Sync
and this seems to have resolved my issues. Now wifi turns on when in standby.
Unsure if this is your problem?
Leave your phone in standby for around 5 minutes, press the home button to light up the screen and if you see the wireless icon straight away then you know this is your problem. You should normally see the 3G logo then it should initiate the WIFI and connect.
Has been great for a few hours now, even with Microsoft Exchange (Push Method), background apps and Siri.
Hope this helps you as it did for me. I've sent feedback to Apple and hopefully this issue will be fixed soon.
    Other workarounds that may work:
Turn off Time Zone in Settings
    Disable location services for reminders
Let your battery drain fully and power itself off and fully charge (Full battery cycle)

You may have discovered the problem. Since I bought the 4S never enabled those features. Never had the battery problem. After a day with full charge and about 20 calls, I still have 90% !

  • IPhone 5S Getting Heated and Battery Drain issue

From Past 2 Days , my iPhone is been getting heated and the battery drain is 1% per minute.
Earlier When i used to put it on standby it used to be only a drop by 1-2 % through out night. Now it has gone down to -35% to 40% drain.
    I have tried
    -Resetting all settings
    - Restoring to fresh new iPhone
-let my battery down to 0 and then charge it to 100% again
But Nothing Helped, i am out of the country for work and i visit an apple store here.
Any Suggestions, How do i Fix it?

I have a VERY similar issue to extremecoder...
Iphone 5s 16gb (purchased from Apple Online U.K. on 8th December 2013) was fine until the last two days onwards. I am now getting incredibly quick battery drain. The image is a screenshot taken this morning. Phone was charged to 100% last night and used for an hour or so, with battery level on 50%. I then switched off overnight as I always do.
Turned it back on again this morning and was at 48%!
Now look at it.    Do I have a case here for a replacement phone?
P.S. Location services, bluetooth etc all off as they always are. Nothing has changed at all in my usage habits with the phone.

  • Water damage to my iPhone 5s and now the battery drains quickly

My water bottle leaked through my bag and got into my phone, when I discovered this I have no idea how long it had been sitting in water for. It wouldnt turn on so I immediately put it in rice in a snap lock bag. After a few hours it turned on again and all seemed to be fine but now the battery drains very quickly, even when no apps are open.
I only got the phone a few weeks ago. Is this something that will be cheap to fix by apple or am I better off trying to do it myself?

Also my finger print thing doesnt work but I can live without that, but i cant live withouth a battery

  • Plugged in my new iPhone to charge before letting battery drain to 0%. Did I ruin it?

I plugged in my new iPhone 6 to charge before letting the battery drain to 0%. It was at about 86% when I plugged it in to my computer to restore everything from my previous phone and then left it to charge to 100%. Will my battery be ruined because of my failure to let it drain before charging it? Pls help!!

You aren't supposed to let it drain fully before charging it - in fact, repeatedly doing so can damage the battery.
Charge it whenever it is convenient for you. Try to avoid running it all the way out unless necessary.
Apple does recommend running it out about once per month, and you can also run it to 0% if the battery gauge seems to be incorrect.

  • Lion battery drain fix in newest update - help???

    Hi,
I was reading earlier that Apple's lastest Lion update included a fix for the battery drain issue, so I installed the update.
The MacBook was plugged in at the time so I let it charge up to 100%.
It was fully charged for over half an hour before I unplugged it.
It immediately dropped to 97%. I plugged it in again put after another half hour it still says 97%.
When I change the icon to show in Time format it says (Charged) - I assume this means fully charged - and when I pull the plug it first says (6:16) and after less than a second it drops to (5:26).
Is this happening to anybody else?
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers.

Please be aware that you will notice a drop in battery life for a period of time after running a repair however this does tend to settle after a week or so.

  • IOS 5.0.1 Battery Drain Fix

I need to say at the outset that I didn't have an issue with battery drain UNTIL I did the update.
I did the update using Software Update on the phone. It measured 55 megs. Update went fine but noticed within the hour that the battery was draining quickly. I tried restarting the phone and the battery percentage went UP from 95 - 97 %. Strange.
Overnight I noticed a drop of 7%. I tried to retrieve the full update from iTunes but was unable to because it already had the update. So I called Apple and was told to force the phone into Recovery Mode by holding the Home button while plugging the phone into the computer. This forces the update.
If you back up prior to this you can just restore the phone from that backup and save yourself some time .
Now, 3 1/2 hours later, with light usage, the percentage hasn't gone down at all.
If you've done the update, and continue to have these issues, you might want to try this as a solution. It is Apple sanctioned as their first tier solution.

About all that can be suggested is to use the feedback form and talk to Apple. They have communicated with some users, trying to get more info to find out just what the battery drain is so they can fix it. Unfortunately with the myriad of operating systems, apps and individual tweaks, there could be several combinations of settings that are draining the battery.
My personal suspicion is that it has something to do with iCloud and the wifi syncing. (My ipad, before I changed the setting, was reaching out to find a sync on a regular basis. And it may still be doing so, however I set my iTunes to not automatically open to keep my device from trying to sync several times in an evening...not to mention the constant aggravation of iTunes opening regularly)
That said, I could be wrong and it could be an app that users have in common, or several apps.

  • Battery Drain Fixed

I have been experiencing random battery draining on my phone where the battery would drain after a few hours after a full charge. the only way to stop it when it started draining was to switch off and then back on.
Im sure i have found the culprit it is the Facebook app whenever i use this app the battery drains really fast after i close it. If i dont use it the battery lasts well over a day.
So give it a try hope it works for you too carnt hurt can it

It happens to me one time. After itunes deauthorize/authorize and then sync problem was solved

  • Iphone 4s 2 months old battery drains

my iphone 4s is 2 months old and the battery goes from 100% to dead within 2 hours.. the problem started this weekend.. using version 5.1.1   Location services are off, brightness is at 40%.  I haven't downloaded any new apps..

Restore iPhone with iTunes on computer. At end when prompted, Set Up as New iPhone. See if the battery is better. If still problem, all iPhone 4S have full Warranty, make Genius reservation and take to Apple for resolution.

  • IPhone 4 GSM overheating and battery draining fast.

I recently updated to 6.1.3 and eevr since my phone have been ovrheating and the battery has been draining REALLY fast. I have tried basic trouble shooting that includes mail, wifi, 3g, and even a factory restore to "new phone". The problem persists. Has anyone ls experienced this have found a fix? I also purchasd a new battery and am waiting for that to arrive. i will install this but I believe it is firmware related and not hardware. This is also in part because apple ran diagnostics and had said the battery appears to be oprating properly.
Help for this would be greatly apprciated. Thanks in advance.

    Did you read this
    www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
Should make an appoinment with the Apple genius and have them evaluate.

  • IPhone 5 not charging after battery drained

the battery of my iphone 5 drained and i have left it
charging for about two hours now and it hasent even shown
the battery icon that its actually charging .
for startes the cable is not an original
any suggestions (besides using an apple cable, i will try that
the moment i have one with me)

I had the same problem, there isn't any helpful answer TBH, this is the one I can find for now, which seem to work for me:
Here is a fix: Pur iPad in DFU mode...
Hold the power button for 3 seconds
Begin holding the Home button without releasing the Sleep/Power button for 10 seconds
Release the power button and continue holding the home button until you get a popup from iTunes that your device is recognized as being in recovery mode.
That’s it, you’re in DFU mode. If you get stuck in DFU mode and need to get out, just hold the power button and home button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.
