Iphone 4s 5.1 text message issue

i am currently using a factory unlocked iphone 4s that i got direct from apple back in november. i had no problems until i updated to the iOS 5.1 and now i dont receive text messages at least 10 minutes up to 4-5 HOURS after the person sends it. the time stamp that comes in with the text says the time they sent it, and so i can tell i was supposed to receive it hours ago. also, the phone has been acting up, it will pick up some calls but not others. i tried calling from my mom's phone and it rings three times then goes to voicemail, but doesnt show up at all on my iphone call log or missed call log.
help? its BEYOND frustrating when you dont receive texts for 4-5hrs after the other person sends them. is anyone else having this issue? i believe its a bug with the iOS 5.1 because my phone was PERFECT before.

No, T-Mobile is not a supported carrier in the U.S. It's possible that the update makes the phone somehow less compatible with T-Mobile's system. If so, there may not be much you can do about it. However, you can try the standard troubleshooting steps of resetting your phone by holding down the power and Home buttons until the sliver apple appears. If that doesn't work, try restoring the phone as new.

That info is just as useless as the info from 02 lol, reboot device, update firmware, reset network settings, bla bla bla, I've heard them all as solutions to every problem I've had and it's never worked for any of them,
I've had no 3G for weeks O2 said it was because I was on ios6 (I lied) as they originally said it was because I didn't update to ios6, then they had me resetting settings even tho I told them problem was on their end, sure enough 100+ minutes of phonecalls and they finally admitted 4 of their transmitters in my area were damaged due to floods! Would of been easier to tell me that in the first place, they won't even speak to me unless I said I had updated to the latest software as they blame everything on apple, and if you do update they then blame it on updating!

My issue is my wife sends me a SMS and I get it twice within seconds of each other
I'm running 5.1.1 shes running 6.0
Problem was here when we both had 5.0
Problem was here when we both had 5.1
So it's not a firmware problem and apple has done diddly squat to fix it
The first is a text message the second is an iMessage both together or within seconds of each other
Pretty sure its her 3G connection at work failing to send the iMessage then sending a text message instead but then sending the iMessage at the same time because it just so happened to connect

Iphone 4s voice to text messaging suddenly stopped working. The little dots that appear while program is preparing to tranfer audio to text shake side to side and no text appear.

As ckuan said, there's no way to mark messages as urgent from the phone. So, either your carrier is doing something and you'll need to contact them or it't something on the other end. Is it just one person who's seeing your texts as urgent? Or everyone?

I have had text messaging issues. The messages disappear or never show up

I have had my Samsung ATIV SE for over six months now and have had it replaced to resolve a text messaging issue but the problem still exists and no one has been able to help me. Text messages randomly disappear. I just had a two week block of messages disappear for no apparent reason. I need a resolution and not sure where to turn. I was sent to Samsung and Microsoft and no one has been able to help me!!

It doesn't have to be any one in particular. I suggest going into the app store and doing a quick search for SMS. Pick one that seems reasonable to you. Our main interest is seeing if this has something to do with your line of service in general or if we can narrow it down to the phone/app.

LG Env3 text message issues

My mom uses a LG Env 3 phone. Recently, she is having issues receiving some text messages. She used to receive a group text message sent from my iphone to her and my sister who also has an iphone. This seems to have stopped worked since my sister and I upgraded to IOS 8. Also, when I send her a picture message now, she gets a message that the retrieval failed, but the message does go through. Because of the failure message, the normal message ringtone does not alert her of the new message. She is also receiving messages that just show as all small squares but I believe this to be messages that contain emoticons. I'm just wondering if upgrading to the LG Extravert 2 or LG Cosmos 3 will make any difference or if she will still have problems receiving messages from newer phones/operating systems. She does not want/need a smartphone at this time. Any advice/insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

I apologize for the inconvenience this might be causing. Is she able to recieve messages from other phones? Try deleting old messages to make room for new ones. This will help clear memory on the phone which can be preventing the text messages to appear. Keep us updated.

Iphone 5 ios 6 text messaging problems

I just purchased a new Iphone 5 ios6 Everything seems to have gone smoothly however there is a major problem with test messaging. it is intermittent.
At times I can get or receive a text from either another Iphone or another android or non smart phone. Then the phone cannot receive texts and the phone will indicate a sent text and I can watch the send bar and it verifys in green that the message was sent yet the reciever says no message received. This occurs whether I am using wifi or the verizon network. I have tried this locally in the house over my wifi to my wifes phone or to my sons Iphone. It does not work. I have soft started using the on/off power and home button simultaneously for the required 10 seconds - no changes. i have reset network settings nope, I have shut off imessaging, I have deleted all text messages, then tried, nope. I have used siri, voice recognition, typing for the text messages, nope. I have sent pics and text pics only text only nope. I have talked to a verizon tech who reset the network on her end nope. ( then we lost the connection - this was a land line discussion while I was making the restart network on my iphone)
I do not know whether this is a verizon ios6 ihone 5 bug so if I do not get a resolution quickly verizon can take back the iphone 5 and pay me for the lost time and business. I had no problems with my other phones which were not iphones!!!!

Rus, I've had similar issues on my iPhone 5. I was having issues that some people on my contact list just weren't getting my texts. I could text them before I got the iPhone and they received them no problem but now it wouldn't go through. Like you the phone said it went through but they never received them. I could receive their texts and even if I replied to their texts, they didn't receive it. I could call them though. I contacted Verizon and Apple but they we no help. What I figured out on my own was that if I deleted their contact from my address book and added it back in fresh, the problem was solved. It's happened to me with 4 different people that were in my contacts already and I deleted them and added them back in and it works fine now. What I believe was happening was I came from a non-smartphone. To transfer my contacts over I downloaded Verizon's contact transfer app on my old phone and uploaded them to it. When my new iPhone 5 came in I downloaded the same app and used it to transfer my contacts to my new phone. I think some of them got corrupted for some reason during the process. I don't know for sure if this is what was happening but since non of the new contacts that I added in after I got the iPhone have any problems I'm guessing I'm right. My concern still is that I will continue to find people in my address book that wont' get my texts and I just won't know it for sure. Good luck!

I am very frustrated with my iphone. Texting is a huge part of my business and communication with children needing to contact me. The texts do not come through, only send sometimes and I am sick of this. The "fixes" dont work, I have only had this phone 6 months and have had my carrier replace it because I thought it was a phone issue. I am very ready to throw this phone into the garbage where it belongs and go back to android. Any suggestions?

SMS is a carrier feature, contact the carrier to troubleshoot.
There is not messaging issue with iOS.

Iphone double notification of text messages?

I suddenly started getting notification tone twice for every text message received. Nothing else has changed on my iPhone 4s. Is there any fix please?

Sorry but this settings change is NOT the culprit. The repeat allows a further notification after 2mins or more - these repeats are instantaneous. I did try setting no repeats, but no go.
BTW I have discovered by experimentation that a hard reset (home plus on/off until the Apple logo appears) cures the issue, at least for now.

Replying to text messages - issue !

I've only had my iPhone 3GS 2 weeks but twice when I have opted to reply to a text message the send button has not been activated. By that I mean that the text does not show as white and the message will not send. Service is fine, does anyone have any ideas as to why ???

I called after work today and they suggested I go to my local VZW store to get a new SIM.
So I went. I explained the situation we're having and the guy also said he had never heard of it before. Before we started any troubleshooting, I told him I would text him and show him the issues. I had rebooted at work and had not sent any texts until I got to the store.
I sent the guy a text, it went through.
He replied.
I typed a reply, failed.
Rebooted.
Repeated first 3 steps. His face was like
We went straight to a replacement SIM. Phone went through activation and all that jazz.
Uninstalled Handcent SMS to eliminate a 3rd party app being the problem.
Problem remained with stock Messaging.
Was asked if I was rooted, I am and on a non-OEM ROM, but the issue had never come up before. He didn't have an issue with it, he was pretty knowledgeable about ROMs too.
Was asked if I used Google Voice for calls/texts, said no as I only use it for voice mail. Verified GV is set to not do any calls.
Was asked to try Google Hangouts for SMS, I've never used it for that, so we enabled SMS. Problem remained.
Rebooted a couple of times, a couple of times was stuck on 3G but eureka! SMS went through.
Eventually the phone locked in to 4GLTE
So it *seems* that it was the SIM all along. So far so good, let's see how it goes over the next few days. Try going to a store and getting a new SIM.

Why does my Iphone 5 alert my text messages after I have already read them?

I recently got an iPhone 5 about a month ago and for the first two weeks it was running perfectly but lately I have noticed a few issues with it and the biggest one being that my phone delays the alert of my text messages. For example, I could be on my phone and the badge saying I have a text message will show up but my phone won't ring or create a banner until minutes after I have already read the message and moved on. I'm wondering if this is a data usage problem on my part or something along those lines, or if it's just a malfunction of the phone. (Note: I have only used 4 GB of my phone and have about 9GB left) Any help regarding my issue would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

This problem is usually carrier related. Contact the carrier.

IPhone slow to send text messages (iOS6)

Hi,
since the update to iOS6, my iPhone 3GS has been incredibly slow to send text messages. It takes upwards of 5 minutes to send a text message not even 100 characters long. It is certainly not the network because I also had this issue in another town some 40 miles away. I have sent messages to multiple contacts, all with different carriers than me or the same carrier as me and the problem persists with all my contacts. Does anyone else have this issue or a solution?

SMS requires a cellular connection. iMessage (to other iOS users) and instant messaging apps like Whatsapp, LifeProfile, Pinger, etc, will work over any data connection, including WiFi.

Iphone 4 wont send text message

I've got an iphone 4 and sometimes it will stop sending text messages. the send bar will load the whole way up until the last %10 then i'll get the red message send failure notice and it wont send any other texts until i turn it off then turn it back on. it's not really that big of a deal but it's really annoying. anybody know how to fix it?

Most likely this is a carrier issue, but you can try resetting your phone - press both home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo appears.
Note that your profile has inconsistent info: iPhone 4 and iOS 3.0.1. The iPhone 4 requires iOS 4.x. Please correct.
