IPhone 4s and iPhoto question

I downloaded iPhoto to my iPhone 4S and it automatically downloaded all of my photos through the Cloud to my phone.  I think all of my photos are duplicated between iPhoto and the Photo default app that came with the phone.  What is the advantage of iPhoto on my phone?  If I chose to remove it to free up space on my phone, will my photos be safe on my computer and my Photo app?
In relation to this.  Before iTunes upgraded to the latest version, I would plug my phone in and set the sync settings for my iPhoto on my Mac to Photo folder on my phone through iTunes.  Where are those preferences located now???
Thanks!

  • Iphone 4 and Iphoto

ok so today i shot a video with my iphone 4 and try to import it in to iphoto. i have done this many times now with my iphone 4 and iphoto. but for some reason now it won't recognize my iphone 4's video format. i checked it and its a .MOV file and i check another video i shot before and its a .MOV file. im wondering if some one can help me out.
    what iphoto error says:
    " Unreadable files: 1
The Following file could not be imported (The File is an unrecognized format)
    /Users/......../Pictures/iPhoto Library/Import/Originals/Roll 1/IMG_0163.MOV"
Its the same file type as other videos ive imported on iphoto.
Can Some Help me out here. i tried restarting my iphone and iphoto, unpluging my iphone and plugging it back into my mac. nothing is working.
    Thanks

HI Guys, I had the same problem..
This is how I solved the issue, hope it helps for you. Go into 'Disk Utility' in your Applications/Utilities folder. Open it up and click on your main Hard Drive and at the bottom of the page you will see 'Repair Permissions'. Wait for several minutes (sometimes it can take a while) and then restart your computer and try plugging in your iPhone again.
I found that sometimes videos sent to me through WhatsApp or once I've used 'Front Row' for some reason jogs the permission preferences in iChat and iPhoto.
    Hope this helps!

  • IPhone 4 and iPhoto 9 import issue

I just bought an iPhone 4 to replace my iPhone 3GS a few days ago. I finally had a chance to try its camera this weekend. Much to my surprise, all the photos I imported into iPhoto 9 on my MacBook Pro lost their XIF and geotag data once they landed in my iPhoto 9 library. I deleted the photos from my iPhone 4 so I couldn't go back to verify that the information was there. So tonight, I went out for a walk and I shot a few more photos with my iPhone 4. Instead of importing them into iPhoto 9, I used Image Capture to import them from my iPhone 4 into my MBP's Pictures folder. Then I checked and all the XIF and geotag data survived the transfer. I then imported the photos into iPhoto 9 by dragging them onto its icon in the Dock. I then was able to view the XIF and geotag data from within iPhoto 9.
So my question is, why can't iPhoto 9 import the XIF and geotag data in photos directly from the iPhone 4? Is there any way I can fix this via some optional setting or am I do I need to wait for Apple to resolve this issue?

I don't have any problem importing photos from my iPhone 4 with iPhoto '09 (v 8.1.2)--it just works, so I really don't know what might be going wrong. I import by selecting my iPhone 4 in the iPhoto Devices and then select the ones I want to import and click on import selected. It has never failed to also import the EXIF data including the geolocation/camera info.

  • Importing movies to purple iMovie from iPhone, iPad, and iPhoto

I have created movies on my iphone and on a Lumix camera. I am trying to figure out the best way to have all my movies in iMovie rather than iPhoto.
I have already likely made the mistake of transfering my Lumix data to an iPad with iOS while I was in Asia. In retrospect, I suppose the best way to get those pictures from my iPad to iMovie would have been to not export the movie from my iPad to my Camera Roll and into iPhoto but rather from my iPad to iMovie.
I also suspect that my iPhone pictures seen on Photo Stream on my iPad would have been best exported to iMovie and from my my iOS iMovie App to send to my Mac iMovie application.
    Are these two ideas correct?
However, some of my movies are already imported into my desktop iPhoto. So, I tried dragging and dropping to my Mac's desktop. I then imported my movies (that came from my iPhone) into my Purple version of iMovie. That was fine except when I trashed my desktop movie to the Trash, it became greyed out in iMovie. So, next question is what I am doing wrong at this point?
Next, my movies from my Lumix imported into my iPad were also then transferred to my Mac OS iPhoto. I dragged those pictures to my desktop but the format is not xx.mp4 but rather is xx.MOV. Is there a better way of dealing with my iPhoto xx.MOV's to get them into Purple iMovie?
Finally, should I just leave all my movies in iPhoto and when in iMovie desktop just view them from the Aperture or iPhoto sidebar?  Can they or should they be imported from the sidebar into iMovie?  If so, can they safely be deleted from iPhoto or will my iMovie clips return to being greyed-out?
I would ideally like all my movies in iMovie and not have duplicate movies in iMovie and iPhoto. What is the best way moving forward to do this properly and to be optimizing my time and organization?
    Thank you

Regarding iPhoto "also importing into my local iPhoto library" -- that is up to you and is controlled by a setting in the menu  iPhoto > Preferences > iCloud > Automatic Import.
I have used both Photo Stream and the USB import method and find it easier to not use Photo Stream and just periodically do the USB import and immediately delete from the Camera Roll.
Another option you may want to look at, if you just want to delete a number of pictures already imported in the past is Image Capture. It allows you to select photos on the phone (previously imported or not) and delete them without importing if desired.

  • New iphone 4s and multiple questions

    So I have multiple questoins...
So I tried out a droid for a couple weeks and well in the end I decided the iphone was the better choice for me. So the droid was my first smartphone and when it was set up it imported all my facebook, twitter, gmail and phone contacts. (I found this really annoying since I have so many contacts that I would really care less to have in my "contacts" list ) I have quite a few contacts on all of those places.so as you can imagine my contacts are a little out of control. Anyways on the droid there was a way to filter my contacts to just show contacts with phone numbers. So here I am on my iphone 4s and all those contacts are there. I haven't found anywhere on the phone yet to filter out contacts yet. Is there a way to "group" or "filter" my contacts so I I can just find the ones with phone numbers? Is there an app maybe that will group e mail, facebook, twitter contacts or something?
    The second question is...
My sister, mother and I share an itunes account (I had an ipod touch before upgrading to an iphone) so that way if one of buys something all of us get it so were not paying mulitple times for the same app. We all sync on different computers since we don't live with eachother. I haven't been able to look into it but the new photo stream feature yet but... when everyone updates to IOS 5 is there a way that each persons photos from their device wont go to the others devices. Is this set up through your itunes account or icloud or something? If they want to use icloud/photo stream would they need to make their own apple id? If they use that apple id on their device for icloud. If they signout and log into my account for downloading apps will that mess up their icloud?
    Thanks,
I would really appreciate an answer on the contacts the most.

  • New to mac and iphoto, questions about photo structure & organization

I bought a new Macbook Pro a couple of days ago and am still figuring things out. I wasn't displeased with windows...I just decided to try a mac anyway, So far, I adore it except for one thing, the pictures.
I spent hours researching whether to download and use picasa 3 for mac or iphoto. I decided on picasa....and now I've changed my mind. (Mostly because I tried to take pictures of the moon tonight, and they looked great in camera, but Picasa could only pick up a black screen whearas iphoto actually saw and defined the moon- and with the editing software on the two, the picasa auto-edit looked like a picture that was created in microsoft paint, and iphoto came out with a beautifully contrasted photo).
Now that I decided to use iphoto, I have been researching how to switch and still seem to have a lot of questions. (I've poked around numerous forums but have found conflicting answers on different sites).
    1) I organize my pictures by folders with the month and year. I know iphoto organizes events, which it seems to determine based on photo similarity. Will my photo structure still appear in finder -> pictures?
    2) Is it possible to stop iphoto from organizing my pictures and just trust me on what I want?
    3) All of my friends and family use PCs, and there is a chance that due to financial concerns, when I eventually replace my macbook pro (far in the future) I could switch to a pc. Does iphoto make transferring pictures more difficult? (If I understand correctly, it does not change the photo file, a jpeg is still a jpeg but I want to be sure)
    4) I do not want iphoto to duplicate all of the pictures already in my library....if I import from finder-users-pictures, will it simply use those, or duplicate all 150gb worth of pictures?
    5) Any other tips for someone completely new to macs and iphoto?
    6) This is very silly, but how do I uninstall picasa (I know how to uninstall on a windows but want to make sure I do things correctly on my mac!)
Also, just a "bonus"- regarding events vs. files I create, will iphoto create events within the program but leave my file structure in the library it imports from alone? If I use finder to go to where I store my photos, will I still see my file structure regardless of what iphoto does?(Does that make sense? I'm having a hard time trying to describe it)
I apologize if this question is foolish or misplaced- I did read many other posts but didn't see the answers I was looking for.

Your questions are neither foolish nor misplaced.
The first thing I strongly suggest is that you make a trial iPhoto Library. Import 100 or 200 pics and explore. Iphoto isn't right for everybody, and if you're going to use it you will need to rethink things a little.
    1) I organize my pictures by folders with the month and year. I know iphoto organizes events, which it seems to determine based on photo similarity. Will my photo structure still appear in finder -> pictures?
A: Events are based entirely on Date and Time not on 'photo similarity' You can set the interval for what makes an Event in the iPhoto Preferences: iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> General Pane: Autosplit into Events... And select from the drop down menu.
Will my photo structure still appear in finder -> pictures?
Yes or no, depending... iPhoto can run as a Referenced or Managed Library. In the former case, yes you files will be visible in the Finder, in the latter case they won't.
Note that Referenced or Managed refers +only to file storage+ It offers no extra functionality, it does nothing at all. App like iPhoto are your go-to app for your photos. If you use it, then you never access the photos via the Finder. Ever. It's always via iPhoto or the many, many hooks into the OS that it has.
I'll detail more on Referenced v Managed below.
    2) Is it possible to stop iphoto from organizing my pictures and just trust me on what I want?
I'm not sure what you mean by this. Iphoto does basic date and time organisation by default. You can change it, you can change the location of the photos in Events, merge them and then using the other tools available - Albums, Smart Albums, Faces, Places etc you can organise your photos whatever way you want.
But what do you mean by pictures. There is a distinction between Photos - the image of your child holding his dog - and files: A Jpeg is just a file. Iphoto is designed for you to +forget about the jpeg+ and get on with the interesting bit: the pics of your younger and his pet.
A Jpeg is a Jpeg is a Jpeg. If you migrate to another app or an entire OS you can export the photos plus any and all metadata you've added to the Finder and move it on. (Caveat: You cannot export Faces. There is no agreed standard on any system for exchanging this info.)
    4) I do not want iphoto to duplicate all of the pictures already in my library....if I import from finder-users-pictures, will it simply use those, or duplicate all 150gb worth of pictures?
It can do either. And this brings me back to the Referenced v Managed discussion above. By default, iPhoto will Manage the files, that is, it will copy them into the Library. You can choose not to, but I strongly recommend that you don't:
    *How to do it:*
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
    *What Happens:*
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
    *Some things to consider:*
    1. Importing and deleting pics are more complex procedures. You have to to put the files where they will be stored before importing them. When you delete them you'll need to remove the files from the HD yourself.
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
    4. Because iPhoto has no tools for managing Referenced Files, if, for some reason, the path to the photos changes then you could find yourself resolving aliases for +each photo in the Library+ one by one.
    My own opinion:
I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
*If you want to edit the photo in another application:*
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
    5) Any other tips for someone completely new to macs and iphoto?
    *To Push Home a point*
For someone inexperienced with Macs and inexperienced with iPhoto I cannot stress enough that Managed Library is the way to go. I understand there is comfort in seeing all those folders. But inside the Library that's all there is: all those folders, stored so that an inexperienced user can't grub things up!
The iPhoto Library Folder is a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. Want to see inside?
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Standard Warning: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
Now close that window and forget about it.
So, once you've imported your photos to iPhoto in a Managed Library, the surplus duplicates are +your folders+. Of course, in time, trash them to get back the wasted disk space. But don't do it today or tomorrow. There's no hurry. When you feel confident that you understand how iPhoto is working and that's it's working for you, theat's the time to reclaim the space.
I organize my pictures by folders with the month and year.
If you want to duplicate your Folder Tree in iPhoto:
Start at the bottom of the hierarchy and drag a folder of images to the Album Heading in iPhoto. The pics will be imported and an Album of the same name created.
You can then create the Enclosing Folders in the iPhoto Window (File -> New Folder) and drag the Album to it. Folders can contain other Folders (Nested Folders) and Albums.
However, is your folder system date based? Then this form of organisation is a bit pointless in iPhoto when Smart Albums or the Calendar tool (Click on the wee magnifying glass in the Search Box) mean you can find the photos taken on any day, month or year at a click. With Smart Albums it's easy to find photos from specific range - say, June 3 to August 25, 2009 etc.
If your folder system is theme based - Xmas pics, Birthday pics etc, then you'll find Keywords are much more flexible, and can be used in conjunction with other criteria for making Smart Albums and searches.
    6) This is very silly, but how do I uninstall picasa (I know how to uninstall on a windows but want to make sure I do things correctly on my mac!)
Drag the app to the trash and empty it.
    Regards
    TD

  • How to fix continued crashes and hangs of iPhone, iTunes and iPhoto.

    PROBLEM
I started to suffer these immediate problems when getting iPhone:
    1. When the iPhone is connected to the computer, iTunes would hang, and also iPhoto would hang.
    2. Both would need to be restarted from the opt-apple-esc key option.
    3. When iTunes was re-started, it would not "see" the iPhone, or even if it "saw" the iPhone, it would refuse to sync. This refusal was either from (a) an error reporting a connection error, or (b) the process of synch would hang.
    4. iPhoto about 1/2 of the time would not properly import photos.
    DIAGNOSIS
After trial and error, I came to the following conclusions:
a/ Part of the problem involved the USB connector on my laptop. It was not connecting 100%, so by jiggling it and making sure it was clean, the connection errors started to decrease some, (but did not go away).
b/ By pulling up the Process Monitor, I noticed that the CPU was becoming overloaded each time the iTunes and iPhoto applications crashed. (I have an older machine, a PowerBook g4 17" with 1GHz CPU, 2 GB RAM.
    HOW TO FIX PROBLEM
    The following worked for me:
1/ For iPhoto, change the settings so that it does NOT automatically launch when the iPhone is plugged in. This is done with iPhoto>Preferences>General: "Connection Camera Opens" > No Application. You can still use iPhoto with your iPhone, but it will not automatically launch when the iPhone is plugged in. This will stop the hanging. [at least it did for me]
2/ For iTunes, disable the option to "sync when plugged in" iTunes>Preferences>Syncing> check the box "disable automatic syncing".
The effect of these actions is to disable the complex chain of events that occurs when the iPhone is plugged in. I believe my CPU just can not handle them. So once they are disabled, there is no problem doing this manually. iPhoto does not launch, even if you have not photographs to upload, and iTunes does not try to launch and sync all in one giant transaction. You simply click the "sync" button when you wish to sync.
My suggestion is that if you have an older mac, check to see if the CPU is getting overwhelmed. If it is, then these setting might help you. For me, after they were put in place, I've not had quite as many problems. About 1/2 the time, iTunes will not sync, but this is easily fixed by simply quitting and restarting iTunes. That seems to work most of the time.

    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • I just imported photos from my iPhone 4 and iPhoto crashed while finishing import and those photos are gone from my phone and computer

I just tried to import photos form my iPhone 4 to iPhoto...it seemed to get all the way to the end and then iPhoto wasn't responding in the
"finishing import" stage. I had already chosen (for the first time ever because I didn't trust it) to delete the photos from my phone. I seems to have imported some (though I can't find them) and deleted them from my iphone...so the import wasn't complete but there are photos missing from both my comp
and the phone. CAN ANYONE HELP ME FIND THEM?  I restarted my computer and then launched iPhoto holding down command and option buttons and chose to "rebuild library from automatic backup". I still can't find them.
    help?

    hi rosanne,
may i know where to find the modified folder? i have the same problem, unbelievable!
    Thanks!

i just updated my iphone 4 and the latest iphoto software - and now it's acting strange:
when i've taken new photos on the iphone and plug it in to the imac, to load the pics into iphoto, it shows the latest photos as well as some random photos from 6 months ago.
before the updates i would just plug in and only the newest photos would show up.
    any idea what's going on?

still trying to find a solution... does anyone have any idea? thanks!

  • Iphone 4 and Iphoto uploads

I have just tried to upload my new photos to iphoto from my new iphone 4 and it is not recognising the file types so will not upload them.
Error message reads, Unreadable file: the following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognised file type or the files may not contain valid data).
    Help!!

Hi, I've suffered this same problem. I recently migrated from a PC to a Mac and none of the other posts I've found on Apple have helped. I tried deleting the plist file for iPhoto, resetting the iPhone and doing any of the iPhoto library rebuilds. In the end, I found this post online that helped me 100%. I'll post the steps and the link to the post for credit. I hope this helps someone else too. Please see the post about restarting the computer or not.
    Post: http://www.calpernia.com/iphoto-wont-import-iphone-4-media-a-fix/
    Steps:
    * Quit iPhoto
    * Open Activity Monitor (Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.app)
    * In the search window at the top right, search for PTPCamera
    * Click on PTPCamera in the list of results to highlight it
    * Click on Quit Process (the red stopsign icon in the upper left of Activity Monitor)
    * Choose “Quit”
    * If you don’t already see “Image Capture Extension” in the list, search for it in the search box. Click on “Image Capture Extension” in the list of results to highlight it
    * Choose “Quit”
    * Go to Macintosh HD > System > Library > Image Capture > Devices and open PTPCamera.app back up
    * Unplug and re-plug the iPhone 4. iPhoto should open, if you’ve set it to do so when a camera is plugged in. Otherwise, open it. You should see your media available for import from the iPhone 4 when you click on the iPhone 4 in the devices list.

  • I have the iPhone 5C and have question about he Nike IPOD app. It keeps telling me to move around to set up the sensor to start timing my workout. I went on a 20 minute walk and it still did not set the sensor. Help is needed.

I have the IPHONE 5C and am having trouble with the app Nike + IPOD.  I go to timed workouts and select 20 minutes and the select playlist and it give me the workout section to start my timed workout.  It will say walk around to activate your sensor.  Well, I walked 20 minutes last nigth & it it still was telling me to activate my sensor.  I was able to still enjoy listening to the music I have on this phone, but frustrated with this silly voice telling me to walk around to activate my sensor.
Have anyone out there had this frustrating problem.??

I used to use an iPod Touch and the sensor on my non-Nike running shoes. I bought a little key pouch that fastened to my laces and stuck it in there. It worked find.
However, with an iPhone, you don't need a sensor. Download the Nike+ Running app from the App Store (or Runmeter or Endomondo or Runtastic). The phone has built in GPS and an accelerometer. It doesn't need the foot sensor like the iPod Touch. You can use any shoes you want. Or no shoes!

  • How do I upload pictures from iphone 5c and iPhoto for editing in photoshop elements 12 please?

I used to be able to edit all my iphoto pictures in PSE10. I  set the advanced section of preferences in iphoto to edit in PSE.  Since installing Photoshop Elements 12, I cannot get the transfer into PSE  of the photos (unedited and unreduced)  to work.
The general preferences only give a camera the options of connecting to iphoto, aperture, image capture, or, no application. Assuming my phone is a camera for editing purposes, I would like to give it the option of connecting to PSE 12.
Also, I would like to import my photos from the iphone 5C into PSE12 for editing. There is an import action in PSE12 which does not seem to work with the imac and iphone.
In addition, my email application is greyed out in the general preferences;  I use Microsoft Outlook for Mac.
How can I change the settings  in 'general' and 'advanced' preferences to work for me, Please?
    Thanks
    Z

Check to see if the iPhone is a remove able drive then go thru folders looking for dcim folder that holds the pics on the iPhone

  • Photo Files and iPhoto Questions

I have a few questions in relation to my actual picture files and when they are imported into iPhoto (on my mac).
Intro: Let me catch you up on my situation, I have all my picture files (around 8000 of them!) on my time capsule; most of them are organized in their own folders (such as halloween 2011 and christmas 2010) but some of them are unsorted in their own folders (such as unsorted 2012 and moms cam). I've imported all these into iPhoto, the folders all appear as events, and I have applied faces and locations to almost all of them (about 85%). Now my questions:
1: If I delete/move some pictures from my time capsule around the folders (so I move some picture from moms cam to halloween 2012 and thanksgiving 2012 folders), how do I sync this with iPhoto? (Ex. I have deleted some pictures from "my graduation" folder in my time capsule, but on the iphoto event for "my graduation", all the pics are there even the ones Ive deleted) Will I have to manually delete these from iphoto as well?
    Status: unanswered
2: Is the data saved on the picture file? So If I were to delete the event from iPhoto, and re-import the folder, will all the faces and locations that Ive added on iPhoto still be saved? or would I have to manually add all the faces and locations again?
    Status: unanswered
3: My main photo files are the files on my Time Capsule; If, by chance, iPhoto turns out to make its own file system of the photos I import, where would that location be? Are they individual files (such each pic as a .jpeg file) or is it something more like a single file with all the pictures and data?
    Status: unanswered

1 - is the Time Capsule being used as an external hard drive or as a Time Machine backup drive - you must not use it as both
2 - is the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library" is checked ( - a managed library - default and strongly recommended) or have you unchecked i (a referenced library - which it sound like you have - this is strongly not recomended)
for your question 1, if you have a referenced library - iPhoto never does anything outside of its database - the iPhoto library - and it does not "sync" or watch external folders -  if you choose to manage the originals then you must do that  - one of the many reasons that a referenced library is not recommended is that improting is more difficult and deleting is more difficult
for question 2, if you delete photos from iPhoto then they and all of their associated data is gone - if you reimport the "same" photo, its is totally new to iPhoto - you are starting from scratch with it
for your question 3 - this is not a matter of chance - you either have a referenced library or a managed library which you choose - and in a referenced library the originals are not copied to the iPhoto library - for a managed library they are and are stored in the masters or originals folder in iPhoto depending on your version of iPhoto which you do not share as bit for bit copies of the originals

  • Iphone 4s and iPhoto problem - please help me!!

    Hi there
I have searched the discussion boards for an answer to my problem, but cant find one yet.
I have a brand new imac with Mavericks installed and up to date. My iphoto is the latest one according to the app store and I have ios7.0.3 on my iphone 4s.
I have about 300 photos on the iphone and i connected to the imac with a usb cable and it appeared as though all the photos were imported in the usual way, so i agreed to delete them off the iphone when prompted to do so.
However, the events for the appropriate dates have been created, but they are grey and all claim to have 0 photos in them.
When I look at last import, it says that the last import was the import I did a few days ago and appears to ignore the one I have just done.
Please can anyon help me find where my photos are in a simple way. I am getting very cross and frustrated. I have used macs for 7 years with no problems until this.
I would also add that my iphoto is very slow and regularly stops responding so that I have to force quit.
    Help appreciated!
    Thanks a lot
    Nick

Thanks to LarryHN and Old Toad, my problems are nearly over, I hope.
I did the repair and, thankfully, my missing photos are back.
However, I now have about 100 photos which are on my iPhone 4s camera roll and when I plug the phone in, it says that it has already imported them, but I can't find them in iPhoto!
I can see the pictures on the mac when the phone is plugged in and I look on the iphone, but I cant see where they are.
Do you think that having photostream has complicated matters at all?
Also, why does the photo stream on my phone (and ipad) show more photos than the photostream folder fir Nov 2013 in iphoto? Is there a delay in appearing in iphoto?
Finally, about 3 out of 5 times, iphoto becomes really slow and stops responding, requiring a force quit. Any ideas why this is and how to fix it?
THis is a great forum, thanks to everyone for help so far.

  • Iphone 4S and iPhoto on macbook pro problem!

most of my photos from my iPhone 4S are showing up in iPhoto on my macbook pro, however, there are a few that aren't flowing into my iPhoto stream. i just noticed this problem in the last couple of days, previously all of my photos appeared in iPhoto.

FYI downgrading is not supported by Apple which is why you don't readily see information on how to do so.
If you have indeed done everything in the article mentioned.
Disconnect device, take screen shot on device, and attempt again
    - also make sure if you have parallels are disabled while testing.
