IPhone 4S AT&T off contract

Hey guys,
I just came back home after getting my new iPhone 4S at the Apple retail store, I've bought the iPhone from AT&T without a contract at full retail price 649 + taxes. The person who sold it to me kept repeating it won't be unlocked be I bought it anyway
Now back home I want to activate it but I don't want to take the risk of losing the unlock because I don't have a microsim other than the one from AT&T.
So my question is if I connect to iTunes with the AT&T microsim will I still get the iphone is unlocked message ?

Tough question: Can I purchase an off-contract iPhone 5 from Verizon and let my brother use it in Europe?

I have an iPhone 4S with Verizon, and I wanted to know if it would be possible for me to buy an iPhone 5 for the off-contract price just as if I was purchasing it for myself, and then ship it to my brother in Austria and let him use it there on the GSM network.
The reason I think this might be possible is because the GSM part of the Verizon iPhone 5 comes unlocked out of the box (or so I've been told)
One obstacle that might stand in the way is if I have to activate the iPhone 5 with Verizon before I send it to him.
Let me know if this would be possible.

If it is truly unlocked (versus the sim slot being unlocked), then yes you would be able to do this. I have no way of actually verifying if my VZW iPhone 5 is truly unlocked (I don't know of a local iPhone 5 AT&T customer to use their sim to see if my phone will work) but maybe someone on here has been able to verify this further than just what some articles state. Otherwise, if it's just the sim slot being unlocked then you would need to keep the phone active on VZW and your brother can use simcards on Europe to roam instead of paying the VZW roaming charges.

Discount for off contract Iphone

Last month I found a link in myverizon that said I could get $15 off a month for my off contract phone.I applied for it and it's its suppose to start in Jan.Has anyone else actually got the discount ? If so,have you added another phone ( that's already paid for) and received the discount for it also ?
I just bought my husband a verizon iPhone 4s ( unlocked) and want to add him to the acct but not at the higher rate ( will get him a prepay if I can't get the other rate)
Anybody else get this deal ?

I bought an AT&T off-contract iPhone5

but when I connect it to iTunes it has someone else's information there. Also, I bought the iPhone5 at a store and support said I had purchased it online. Was the iPhone5 bought online by someone and an Apple sales person sold it to me by mistake? Was the iPhone5 bought online and the person changed their mind and cancelled the order, but their personal information was added to the iPhone5 anyway?

I have any IPhone with at&t lock, I bought this iphone from ebay. that time didnt know what is lock phone or unlock phone. then I end up with iphone like Ipod recently i heard that at&t is going to unlock the phone off contract. I would like to knw if this going to work with my case. I bought this phone on OCT, 2010

This is AT&T's published statement, and all we know at this stage:
"Beginning Sunday, April 8, we will offer qualifying customers the ability to unlock their AT&T iPhones. The only requirements are that a customer’s account must be in good standing, their device cannot be associated with a current and active term commitment on an AT&T customer account, and they need to have fulfilled their contract term, upgraded under one of our upgrade policies or paid an early termination fee."

Definition of "Off Contract"?

AT&T unlock requires the phone to be "off contract". It's always a mystery on the definiton of "off contract". For example, customer John bought an iPhone 6 from AT&T with subsidized price $199 and signed a two-year service contract. After one year, John put his SIM card into an old iPhone 5 and sold the iPhone 6 to Mary for $399. John continue paying his AT&T bills. Now Mary wanted to unlock the iPhone 6 she bought from John. Is this iPhone 6 considered "off contract"? From finacial perspective, No. Because John hasn't fufilled his 2-year commitment yet. But from technical perspective, the iPhone 6 does not associate with John's line any more. To make things more interesting, what if Mary is an AT&T post-paid customer with no contract commitment? What if Mary put her SIM into the iPhone 6? Does she have to wait for 60 days before she can submit an unlock request?

You can get around not signing a contract with at&t however if you do so then you will not be able to use visual voice mail "big loss". however if you do unlock iphone using a hack off of the Internet it voids your warranty and i think it might be illegal in some states but don't know cus i from the UK. However without signing with at&t there is no warranty and if your iphone breaks as quite a few have, e.g. the screen no longer responding or whatever you will have to shell out all that $399 again so it is your choice but personally i would just sign the contract.

Now here's the unique part. When I go to turn it back on, the apple loading screen pops up but it takes somewhere from 3-5 minutes for it to boot up. Then the lock screen with the time and whatnot shows up. From this point on, my iPhone has a chance to shut itself back down and I have to repeat the process over and over again. Most of the time the lock screen flashes and then goes straight to black (shut down) but sometimes I can make it a few menus before it shuts itself down.
The only way to keep the iPhone on is to plug it into a charger of any sort. I'm fairly certain it isn't a battery charge issue because this happens at any % of power and sometimes my iPhone can use up all of its charge and not have this happen while other times I can be at 90-100% and it could randomly shut itself down. What can I do in this situation if some has some solution to this problem please let me know on [email protected] Thanks!

Sounds like your phone is in recovery mode. In this case, all data on it is gone. There's nothing to back up.

You have to have iCloud enabled and Find My iPhone set to On on your iPhone in order to find it. If you're saying you turned this off before losing it I'm afraid you're out of luck.

ICal and iPhone's calendar are off by 1 hour

Just a thought - have you got both machines set for the same Time Zone?
iPhone - Settings : Date and Time : Time Zone
also, check the Calendar setting lower down.
Then check your MacBook's time zone setting too

You will have to activate the phone through them.

My advice is to try not to treat this like it is a paid service provided by compensated professionals. Ask nicely and one of the nice folks here might take some time out of their weekend to offer advice.

Had exact same problem. Rang Apple support and various apple repairers. All of them said in effect, too bad, you'll have to lose everything since your last backup. It's a work phone with very important stuff on it and the latest backup was on a computer that had a virus. Convergence of crap :/
Happened to talk to a friend who said to try replacing the battery. Did that. Problem fixed. All data saved.
To all Apple support people: rather than say 'once it's in recovery mode you lose all data' try saying 'replace your battery and see if that works first'!!!!
