IPhone 4S audio problems

There was a lot of complaints in the forums until recently about audio problems in the iPhone 4S. Different people had different problems. Mine is that the person I am calling, or the person that is calling me, cannot hear me, although I can hear them. I never saw any mention of resolution to those problems. Does anyone have any idea what the resolution might be?

I have a similar issue. I just installed a Jabra Drive and now, the default audio source is the Jabra...even when I am not near the device. When i answer a call, or make an outgoing call on my iPhone, I need to manually switch the audio source to the iPhone.
This was never an issue with my Morotola H17 bluetooth ear piece.

  • Iphone 4s audio problem

My iPhone 4S will sporadically go mute.  either I can't hear the caller or they can't hear me.  I've had this happen primarily with Bluetooth devices such as my Motorola headset (which I swapped out just to make sure it wasn't that) and my car's built-in Bluetooth.  I never had these problems with my iPhone 3GS before.  I'm hearing that there are a lot of other people like me having similiar problems, even with the iPhone 4.  I'm really frustrated because I can't conduct my business like this.  Any suggestions?

I'm currently running at 60-70% of calls being mute. In addition when I do hear the incoming audio it sounds like the person is talking under water. I have run the gamut of fixes so far, reinstalling all software, texts from Vodaphone and a new Sim card, all to no avail. Next step is a visit to the Genius bar and a bit of Apple baiting. Incidentally apologies to callers families if indeed they were under water and I failed to contact the emergency services but couldn't get any audio when I rang!

  • Iphone 4 Audio problems?

Just got my iphone 4 last year. One day the microphone stopped working, didnt drop it or anything. Then the audio stopped working when i tried to play music, (There is no volume bar when i try to play music) It seems as if it thinks its plugged into a dock and when i press the volume buttons on the side the volume bars dont show up either? i've tried cleaning the phone nothing works? When i use headphones the music works but it'll randomly stop so i need to take out the headphones and plug them back in. The weird thing is my alarms work and i can hear the sound perfectly. It also works when i plug it into an ipod dockHELP.

I will note that I just read about syncing here and although I had "Manually manage music and videos" checked, I did not have (Preferences > Devices) "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically" checked.  I don't know if that has something to do with the issue, even though I've not changed my Preferences for iTunes in a while (why this happened now, I don't know).  Anyway, I've checked it now and will see if that helps.
I hope I get some knowledgeable advice here regardless.  I would appreciate feedback either way, and would like to know if there's anyone with a suggestion for the second problem (iTunes sputtering it's play randomly on a previously problem-free mp3, then ejecting my iPhone).
    Thanks.

  • NEW! iPhone recent audio problems/audio stops during phone call

I have only noticed this problem for the last 1-2 weeks. I didn't think much of it, until 2 other friends were talking about the same problem.
I will be in the middle of a conversation on my phone, when I notice that the other person isn't talking back...I'm getting zero audio out of the earphone. They can hear me just fine, I've discovered. I have to disconnect the call and then call them back.
One friend has an iPhone 3G. I have the 3GS. I'm using firmware 3.0. He has updated it to 3.0.1. Another friend has a 3GS with firmware 3.0.1 as well. Same problem.
I have noticed that it MOST frequently happens after about 4 minutes of conversation time, but it's not every time.
Has anyone else been experiencing this? This isn't the usual dropped calls or "call failed" message.

Guys, my daughter in Norman at OU has had problems all day. Phone shows 3G connection and full strength on bars but slow texting, dropped calls and sometime even unable to call out. Rebooted phone twice with no luck.
Strange its Oklahoma. Several have made appts to genius bar. Tried to make on in OKC at Penn Square around her classes but could not. Only a few available next week on Tues and Weds. They seem pretty booked up - I bet with the same problems.
I suspect this is an AT&T issue, but if anyone gets back from the Genius Bar with answers or ideas, please post them here so we can all learn. Thanks!

I recently upgraded my iphone 4 to ios6 on wifi. My laptop charger has been broken for a while so i havn't been able to sync my iphone to my itunes or back it up in any way. Now that the ios6 upgrade is done, my phone completely turned off and is now showing on the screen to plug in my phone to itunes.
DESPERATE, i am back on my laptop with a borrowed charger and i plugged my phone into itunes. It now says i have to restore it back to factory settings. Meaning, i will lose all of my contacts, pictures, etc. because i havn't been able to back it up onto my laptop.
I definitely don't want anything deleted off of my phone. Did any body else have this problem? Is there ANYTHING i can do to refrain from restoring it and losing all of my memory?
Couldn't you have backed it up to the "iCloud"? or some other cloud based storage before you did the upgrade? If you do not back things up before you upgrade your OS, you are only asking for things to go wrong.

  • Audio Problems On iPhone

My iPhone really has been doing everything. Now I have audio problems my phone audio will work for a little while then cut off. Like I can't even see the volume slider on the screen.

Thousands of people including myself have this same problem, and have been experiencing it for months.  Apple has not done anything to address it.

  • IPhone 5 audio jack problems

My iPhone 5 audio jack seems like it's broken or something. Every time I put my headphones in and I move them a little bit the music either pauses, changes into a different volume , only plays on one side ,or sounds like static. Is is broken? If so can it be fixed? Also it isn't the earbuds since it did the same thing when I use a brand new pair!

Bring your phone to Apple for evaluation.  If defective, it will be replaced (free of charge if within the warranty period)

  • Iphone 3G audio player skipping beats in between songs

    Hi,
I have been using iphone 3G for over 6 months.Since the time I updated to 3.1(and 3.1.2 now),I have a strange audio problem. While playing songs, the ipod moves to a different point of the song(for 1-2 secs) and returns to the original point. This makes listening to songs horrible. Also the same thing happens(say a couple of times) for certain songs everytime I played it.I thought this was an OS issue and updated it but to no avail.Everytime I completely erase the songs and sync to a new playlist, a new set of songs have the skipping goin on.Plz help and thanks in advance.
    Guy

I too have this problem. I first experienced it on my 2G after upgrading from v1.1.4 to v2.2.1. It appears to me to be caused by high-bitrate VBR .mp3 files. AFAIK the 3G doesn't have a dedicated hardware audio decoder, so it is dependent upon the ARM11 processor. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't include any tools to get an idea as to the load level of the phone. Of course there other are ways to accomplish this. I spent the time to sit down, play some songs and gather data. Right now I'm just cruising the forums to see how many other people are running into this.

  • HBO GO - new audio problems...

I have used and loved HBO Go, first on Roku, now even more on Apple TV.
Two things happened in the past few weeks.  First I THINK I selected subtitles for one show "Jaime", or they suddenly appeared.  i don't really see where settings are in HBO that mention anything about sound or audio.  I do for AppleTV as a whole.
These problems are ALL on HBO Go only (on Apple TV only) and only certain shows (Treme, J'aime) series that I was watching fine before.
It seems to have changed the mix so that I can only hear the ambient sound and no dialogue.  Sound effects, phones ringing.  I have surround sound and its only the front speakers.  However on films for example, no problem at all.
I notice that my receiver indicates some change in the audio settings.  For a week I was convinced it was my receiver (Onkyo) but it is only happening on HBO GO on Apple TV and here again, only certain series that were playing fine before.
SO confused.  I have no more subtitles anymore, and I only mention that because its the only other thing that has changed since this started.
Finally, I reset my AppleTV back to system setting, which meant re-enterring all the username password info again, and absolutely nothing changed.
I use HBO GO on computer and iphone and no audio problems at all.
SO HBO GO seems to have changed its own audio settings for certain programs only.  Netflix, Hulu, all play fine, only, as far as I can tell, some series on HBO.  Apple TV doesn't seem to be malfunctioning in any other way.
Any help of references much appreciated

    Hi ,
I am sorry about the issues you are having with your HBOGo, but I will be glad to help. I will be sending a private message to gather more information.

  • Outgoing Audio Problems

I have an intell iMac 2.4 GHz, with 4 GB ram. About six months ago I started to have outgoing audio problems. It's an old computer but works pretty well. Well, except for this. It doesn't matter if I use FaceTime, Google Hangout, Skype (video or just audio), the is static and screetchy noises on the receiving end. I can't hear it on my end. There is no problem with incomming audio, either through voice or video chat, or other steaming services. Can anyone help me out. What do you think this is? A simple mic problem?

Had the same problem, no audio on incoming or outgoing calls and only could hear the conversation of the call if I put on speaker. It seemed to start after I did a recent IOS update this past month. I tried restart, reset and restore of my iPhone but nothing changed. It appears not to be a software issue but a hardware problem. I got my phone this past summer so it was still under warranty and got it replaced.

  • Audio problems in video imported fro iphone4

I imported some videos made on iphone on a windows XP - without using itunes.
Now the videos present audio problems in avidemux.
If I convert them using Handbrake in several formats (e.g. avi), I can't manage to make them readable by Windows MovieMaker

Is there a way to extract the audio so I can clean it up using Sound Soap
iMovie 06 has some good filters for that.
I also use Final Cut Express, so maybe it would be better to just export it to FCE and then extract the video from there?
Final Cut Express (or iMovie 06) will give you better quality but it won't solve the buzzing noise. I also suspect a grounding problem.

  • Audio problems while playing videos from superdrive

Hi, i've got a macbook pro with leopard and a bootcamp partition with windows xp.
When i play videos (divx or dvds) from my superdrive under windows, i have audio problems (like noise), but the same videos are fine in leopard or if i play them from another storage, for example from usb.
Perhaps it's a problem with last bootcamp drivers..or maybe there is something wrong with my superdrive. i remember this wasnt an issue when i bought my mac (less then a year ago).
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Mirko

    I'm having the same problem.
I had a video file that I had to convert for my iPod & iPhone, after doing so, only a white video screen and just the audio.
What the heck is going on? it seems like a few people are having this problem!

  • Weird audio problem during calls

I have a weird audio problem and was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or could help...
My wife and I both have iPhone 5's and sometimes (not all the time) when she calls me (or I call her), it connects, but no matter which audio input I choose (phone, bluetooth, speaker, headphones), I cannot hear her, but she can hear me... I hang up, call back (and when I call, there is no dialing sound, nor any other phone sounds) and it's the same thing. Sometimes restarting the phone works, other times I have to restart it 3-4 times before it'll work again.  I try different things during these calls, like turning on/off bluetooth and/or wifi (pretty much anything I can think of that would make a difference), but nothing seems to help.
The (other) weird part is that after the last time of this happening, I tried calling my iPhone with my office phone and it worked fine, so then I immediately call my wife back with my iPhone and it was doing the same thing again. I called her back using my office phone and could talk to her fine...
This problem has been going on for a few months now and I have tried restoring the phone a couple times (and I am on the latest iOS) and sadly, that hasn't done anything to help... Does anyone have any ideas what is going on? I'd make an appointment for the problem, but since it doesn't do it all the time, I don't know what good it would do... But it is getting very frustrating!
    Thanks for any help!
    -Jason

Thanks for the response!  It happened again yesterday...  It seems to be happening more frequently in the past few weeks now.
I checked the link and have tried all of the things listed at one point or another over the past few months.  I did just check my Carrier settings and it said it had updated (it's on 14.1), but I am not sure when that happened (could have been today, could have been after my last restore last week, not sure).  I'll keep my fingers crossed that maybe that fixed it...
If it continues to act up, would you recommend that I bring the phone in to an Apple store or an AT&T store?  I bought the phone through Apple, but my carrier is AT&T (and if you suspect that the problem may be with the cellular conection), maybe the AT&T store would be the better choice?
I really wish the problem would be more consistant or go away, cause trying to get the problem solved is driving me crazy!
