Iphone 4s bluetooth volume problems through Alpine HU

Having trawled through numerous reports of bluetooth problems with the 4S I have not found one which replicates my issue although I could have missed it.
Essentially I think my query boils down to " Does the 3GS output music, via bluetooth at a higher level than the 4S, assuming both using IOS5.0.1" .Because my new iphone 4S is much much quieter than my old 3gs and I want to establish whether this is a software problem or a faulty unit.
For the last couple of years I have been using a 3GS which paired perfectly with my Alpine CDA-9887/Bt400 stereo in the car, handled calls well and when playing music via the bluetooth input ( which it did exceptionally well) it was at the same sound level as the other inputs for a given vol setting, i.e. I could switch from radio, to disc to bluetooth withouth changing the volume.
Having just changed to an iphone 4S I have found that although the unit pairs ok and seems to handle calls well enough (although rather mushy sounding compared to 3GS) it is very quiet when using the ipod function via bluetooth.
Volume and sound quality are very subjective I realise but to give an indication of the problem, the Alpine head unit has a volume scale from 0-39. On all inputs (except with the 4S) a volume of 5 is fine for spoken voice, 12 good for music on the move 21 is very very loud pushing the cars speakers to the limit. These levels are approx the same when playing music through an iphone 3GS and an ipod touch via bluetooth.
By contrast the iphone 4S is inaudible at vol 5, needs 20 to be listenable to on the move and even at vol 39 sounds thin and about as load as a 3GS at vol18  so ful vol not possible from my iphone 4S
The main problem with this is that if you are listening to music from the iphone 4S then switch to the radio without remembering to drastically reduce volume it is likely to result in damage to the speakers and/or your eardrums. The problem is compounded as I use the TomTom app regularly and this exibits the same problem, the volume needs to be very high for instructions and then if I change input to listen to the news....ouch.
I have tried 2 iphone 3GS's and an ipod touch on this Alpine unit and they all work perfectly, being able to maintain the same output for a given HU vol level as the radio etc. I have tried increasing the bluetooth volume on the 4S handset, have tried clean restore to see if there is some obscure problem with my backup all to no avail.
Has anyone upgraded from a 3GS to a 4S and found the music level in a car via bluetooth much quieter, the same or louder and does this sound like a hardware problem.
thanks.

Funny Apple told me to eat **** and call my car place.
HELP !!!
It’s not like we are working with Samsun here. They should have thought it out fixed all the bugs then went ahead. I am...... ******!  My 3 week old Volkswagen Tiguan no longer plays my MUSIC nor my Audible. Its so not ok. This is a breach of contract. I am told by apple you don’t have to update but my carrier said just the opposite our phones will not work without the updates...

  • Iphone 4 bluetooth connectivity problems since updating to ios 5.01

My wife and I both have an Iphone 4 through verizon.  I updated my ios to 5.01.  Hers is still 4.3.10.  Since updating mine the bluetooth feature have gone crazy.  When I get in my truck (2008 Nissan Frontier) it just continually connects and disconnects with the built in blue tooth system in that vehicle.  I cannot make or take a call on the system it just keeps dropping the connection then re-connecting.  Funny thing is my wife's phone doesn't have this problem.  It connects and functions normally.
I wanted to just roll back ios 5.0.1 but I've found out you aren't allowed to do that.  Nissan has no updates for their bluetooth system either.
I have gone the extreme of completely wiping out my iphone and re-installing everything fresh and that has done nothing.  I have also tried completely deleting all the phone saved in the truck's system and re-setting them up and that too has done nothing to fix the problem.
Anyone have a suggestion?  I have to think that there is something in ios 5.0.1 that is messed up with bluetooth.

Interesting discussion. I too am having connection issues with an original iPad. I have an olde' linksys wrt54gs router with a Linksys RE1000 wireless extender (repeater). I can connect to the router just fine when I'm in range but can't use the repeater signal on this iPad only. Even when I'm right on top of it. One thing that may have helped is changing from WPA2 to simple WPA encryption in the routers settings. So far (crosses fingers), it's working ok.

  • Iphone 4s Bluetooth Connectivity Problems

My Iphone 4s seems to have connectivity issues via the bluetooth.  I have two devices that I use, a Blueant V1 (I think 5.3) and a GoGroove Flexsmart X2.  On the gogroove, the audio works fine when I play music via my car radio.  The hands free calling worked the first time I tried it and then I have had problems ever since.  The lights on my gogroove will indicate it is connected; the phone will say it is connected to the gogroove.  When i make the call, the screen pops up allowing you to use either speaker phone, regular phone, or the gogroove.  It always is automatically initially set for the gogroove but then automatically switchs to speaker phone a few seconds into the call.  When it does that, I can't even get the speaker phone to work.
The Blueant V1 does the same thing.  It will say I am connected, the Blueant will tell me I'm connected and then the above situation results when I actually make a call/
I've tried reset all settiings on my iphone.  I have reset it multiple times.  I have unplugged and replugged the gogroove as well as turning on and off the BlueAnt.  I have used the forget this device command as well and it doesn't seem to work.  Short of a voodoo, I don't know what to do at this point.  Is it possible I have a defective bluetooth chip?  Anyone else having these problems.
The gogroove does work excellent for Audio and playing pod casts from Sticher.

Same problem. My car is a citroen c4 grand picasso year 2010.
4s since upgraded to 6.0 the phone cannot recognice the car and car cannot recognize the phone.
Before the upgrade I could make and receive hands free phone calls, listen music through itunes or spotify, etc
    Any solution please?

  • MacBook pro, snow leopard, iPhone and Bluetooth PAN problems

    Short Version:
I am having connectivity issues connecting my new MacBook Pro (MBP) to the Internet thru a Bluetooth PAN on my iPhone4. This has been working fine for a few days and then today it just stopped working responding that my iphone connection is not available, it's off, too far away or whatever. This is not the case. When I try to connect the iPhone to the MBP the iPhone is saying my MBP is not supported. I can pair the devices, but as soon as I try to connect to the Internet thru the iPhone via the MBP the connection fails.
    Long Version:
I received a shiny new MacBook Pro only a few days ago and I am having Bluetooth Paired networking issues as of today, 2nd, March, 2011. The MacBook Pro is running Snow Leopard 10.6.4, and is brand spanking new, unmodified, factory defaults.
The iPhone(s) I am using are iPhone 4's with iOS 4.1
On the first day I paired the MBP with both iPhones with ease, it was so easy my grandparents could have done it. So point and click and it just worked....
The iPhones are set up in iTunes with names similar to dave1 and dave2
On the MBP I can select which device I want to connect to the Internet by going to the Bluetooth icon and connecting to whichever iPhone I have handy at the time. Since the plans are limited connectivity, I do load share between the two.
Today, for no apparent reason, I have been unable to connect to my wife's phone just getting a basic "The Bluetooth network is unavailable" message telling me the iphone is out of range, not on, etc etc etc. Not true.
No problem, I just connected to my phone instead. Occasionally I tried her phone again, but it just never worked. I eventually got her to reboot it, still no joy.
Then, a couple of hours ago, while in the middle of reading my rss feeds, my Bluetooth connection dropped out. My phone is sitting right next to the MBP. So that's not the issue. No amount of reboots of either the MBP or the iPhone have fixed this. I have unpaired and repaired the devices (on both phones) countless times. I have removed the sim card and rebooted, I have disabled and reenabled Bluetooth on both, rebooting before doing this, and after and during, I have reset network settings. Nothing I try is working here.
Pairing alone is an event, but here's an example of what's happening:
I go thru the motions, the MBP shows me a number (eg, 451234) and the number is displayed on the iPhone. They see each other. The numbers are the same. Good. I click PAIR on the iPhone and MBP and everything appears good. But then if I go to connect to the iphone on the MBP I get the out of range error.
I have made both discoverable, and tried to connect to the MBP from the iphone, and got a different error message altogether: Connection Unsuccessful - "{insert my name}'s MacBook Pro" is not supported. W-T-F? It was an hour ago? What has changed?
Then, the only option on the iPhone is to "Forget Device". ok, forget it, and start again. Same same.
Neither the iPhones nor the MBP have been upgraded or changed in anyway today, or even recently. In fact, as mentioned earlier, I was actively using the connection without any issues for a number of hours when it just stopped for no apparent reason.
Not that these matter, but I am in Thailand (live here for the time being), I'm on the TrueMove network, which offers 3G coverage in my area (Patong Beach).
This could easily have been filed under MacBook Pro, iPhone, OSX and possibly many other discussion headings, because the issue can be any or all of the OS, the MacBook Pro Bluetooth adapter, the iPhone Bluetooth, (iOS for that matter), or some other unforeseen conditions...
My head is sore from pulling my hair out. I am open to any suggestions (reasonable or otherwise!)
For further info (not that this post is long enough already, or anything, but), I thought it was interesting that the phones didn't fail at the same time, so I pulled out an old iPhone 3GS and set it up, but after pairing, the two can still not connect.
I know its not an issue with the data plan on the iPhone since I'm here surfing now without an issue, so it's not a data problem.
    Open to ideas....
If you've read this far and you're ever in Phuket, give me a call... I'll shout you a beer

Ok, now I do wish I could edit....
I forgot to APPLY the network settings for the USB cable to work. Connected thru USB I can tether.
So, I kept playing, and playing some more...
I had previously unpaired everything, and gone as far as removing network devices HOWEVER...
I didn't remove the Ethernet, Firewire or Airport Network devices.
Now, I have done so. I REMOVED EVERYTHING
    No pairing, no network devices.
Bluetooth was already turned off, and I rebooted.
I turned off tethering and rebooted the iphone.
I turned on bluetooth (on the MBP), I turned on tethering. I browsed for the iphone. It said I was already paired???? Ok, repair AGAIN, and THE IPHONE SHOWED MY BLUETOOTH TETHERING BLUE BAR at the top of the screen!
I opened a web page, no go... d4mn, I was close...
Opened network preferences and the created a new bluetooth PAN and voila! Internet back on the MBP. I am about to reinstall the ethernet and airport (I can live without firewire for now) and see what happens.
Basically, the link I posted two posts ago, I had already done that, but I NEEDED to remove ethernet, firewire and airport as well...
So MAYBE it's fixed, we'll see for how long. I'm not going to mark this as answered for now, because basically, it has failed for no reason, and I want to know why...
Hopefully someone can come up with something, but having to delete and reinstall all pairings and network devices (to me) is not really a solution, it's a workaround (at best).

  • IPhone 5 Bluetooth Audio Problem w/ Car Stereo (Pioneer AVH-P3300BT)

I tried looking around to see if anyone else had this issue, and didn't find an answer.
I have a Pioneer AVH-P3300BT car stereo, and while it doesn't play music via bluetooth, it does have a very nice setup for talking on the phone.
It's always worked fine with my iPhone 4, 4S, and also several Android handsets. It even worked fine on my 4S after upgrading to iOS 6. But now I have an iPhone 5, and the audio quality is just horrendous. I can kind of hear the person on the other end, but according to whoever I'm talking to, my voice sounds garbled and "demonic". The iPhone 5 on iOS 6 is the only device this happens with. Is there a fix for this, or is it at least a known bug? I would hate for my expensive car audio setup to be rendered useless for the purpose I bought it.
The deck also displays other information from the connected phone, such as signal strength and battery level. When the iPhone 5 is connected, it shows a dead battery (even when full) and a completely full signal (which is almost never really true).
I can use the phone with my Plantronics bluetooth headset and there are no sound quality issues there.

Same here. Why doesn't anyone from support offer a Solution or at least reply????
This issue has nothing to do with your brand of audiosystem. I talked to quite a few iPhone 5-ers and they ALL have the same issue.
    @Apple solve this!!!! And reply!!

  • VZW and RIM are treating us like morons re: the Tour Bluetooth volume problems. Fight Back!

VZW is playing dumb with everyone who raises the issue about the Tour BT outgoing volume being so low that nobody can hear us.  They must think we are all stupid.  Instead, lots of us are looking at alternatives to VZW, as a result of being treated like morons.  We could all leave VZW and they will pretend not to know why their market share dropped.  Pretty stupid business practice if you ask me.  All they really need to do is fess up, acknowledge the very real problem, blame it on RIM, which is where fault belongs, and then pretend to side with their bread and butter customer base.  Maybe they missed that day of business ethics class.
I returned my Tour during my 30 days, as did a ton of others.  I unwound my 2 year contract committment and I am again a free agent, able to join forces with anyone able to put a working device in my hand.
VZW, its been a long run, but I dispise being treated like a moror any longer.
RIM, I have been using your devices since before they were even phones and I had to buy them directly from you.  I expected more from you as well.  Shame on you for releasing such garbage and then hiding from it.

Please remain courteous and on topic. Thanks

  • Iphone 4s earpiece volume problem

So my 4s was working great, with no battery issues but now my earpiece volume has dropped so low I can hardly hear it. It did this randomly. No Siri use prior to it happening. I tried changing languages to reset the springboard and also a hard rest which didn't help. I just wanted to see if there is something I should try before going in for a new phone.

Make sure you remove the transparent plastic screen cover the iPhone ships with prior to making appointment to get replacement.

  • My iPhone 3GS no longer connects through Bluetooth to my MacBook Air, nor my BMW X3.  Is this fixable?

My iPhone 3GS no longer connects through Bluetooth to my MacBook Air nor my BMW X3.   I've made no recent adjustments, it's just stopped functioning.   Any ideas?   Can this be fixed, or is my iPhone on the way out?

Problem solved!! I finally managed to pair the SE HCB-100 car kit speakerphone with the 3GS. I surfed the SE web site and it mentioned resetting the speakerphone. Tried it on 'one color ID' but it didn't work so I did it on all 'color IDs' and left it on reset mode when it 'accidentally' was picked up by my 3GS while searching!!! Found 'headset' and then recognised it as HCB-100. One happy guy for the holidays!!!

  • IPhone 4 stops playing music through AUX and/or Bluetooth

I recently updated to 5.1.1 and my phone will stop playing music through the headphone/AUX jack. Pulling out the cord and plugging it back in reinitiates the music, but it will stop soon afterwards again. The song is still playing (becauseplay icon still up). Thought it was a problem with the cord, but other iPhones (not updated--friends phones) work just fine for long periods with no interruption.
I checked out the headphone jack looking for lint or debris and did not find any, so I did a restore. After restore of phone same problem, random cutting out using the headphone jack.
This morning it is doing the same cutting out while playing music with my Bluetooth Bose speaker... so I tested it with my physical stereo system dock, again, music cuts out...
What is going on with my phone?
(Keep in mind that I've tested all my music devices--Bluetooth speaker, physical stereo dock, and car aux jack/cord with other NON-updated iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S with no problems like the one I am having.)
    Thank you.

I can confirm that I have exactly the same issue - music cuts out when using headphones.  Sometimes it goes from play to stop and I can click play to start it again. Other times it stops (but is still playing) and I have to unplug and plug the headphone jack in again.  Seemed tgo start after turnign on iTunes Match - Although the songs that stop are not in the cloud - they are on my phone.  I have disabled itunes match to see if that will help and will report back...

  • Iphone 4s Bluetooth problems after upgrading to IOS 6.0

I use the bluetooth to connect my Iphone 4s and my car stereo (Alpine CDE HD138BT)  Prior to the IOS 6.0 Upgrade when I streamed music from both Pandora and my music files I was able to view the artist, song, album on the stereo and even use the stereo control buttons to skip tracks, search, etc.  After the upgrade I can still pair the two and play music but I lost all of the other additional features and can no longer see the information or control it from the stereo.  I have deleted the pairing on both and then re-established again but that didn't fix the problem. I found on the stereo specifications that it uses Bluetooth version 2.1. Is there any way to force the Iphone to revert to a previous version of bluetooth?  (I am also going to post on an Alpine site to see if they plan on doing an upgrade.)

I had the same problem. My phone wasn't finding it so I tried plugging it into my laptop and it said I needed the latest iTunes which I already had.... I unplugged my phone from my laptop and did a soft reset to my phone (hold down the lock button and home button at the same time until your phone turns off) once it turns back on you should find the update... Click general... Software update. Worked for me!
