IPhone 4S both volume buttons turn volume down.

IiPhone 4S 16gb locked to EE
problem is both volume buttons turn the volume down.
pressing either volume button once brings up the volume window but doesn't increase or decrease the volume
Holding either volume button will decrease the volume only way to turn it back up is to go into settings or use that access thing (so a circle comes up) not ideal.
i Have changed the volume flex cable still same symptoms
i have factory restored it many times still the same
i have upgraded iOS from ios7 to iOS 7.3 or whatever the latest one is still the same.
any other solutions? Or fix's?
Tthanks Nat

Unfortunately this is probably a hardware issue and you will need to take it to an Apple Store.

  • Why does the iphone volume randomly gets turned off/down.

Around 4-5 times a day I have noticed that the volume on my iPhone has been turned all the way down. Anyone have any suggestions what is doing it?

well i just did two test videos.
just like a while ago when I first encountered this issue.
take a video with the volume buttons up = upside down when played in VLC
take a video with the volume buttons down = normal.
such a shame when they released the feature to use the volume button as a shutter button.
this wouldn't be such a big deal if I could upload 1080p to YouTube from my phone. But NOOOO, but I have to first upload it to my computer, then upload it to YouTube, and thats where the problem comes to play.
so whatever. ill just have to remember to take videos with the volume buttons down.

  • The volume down button has become hard to push down, almost stuck and my phone does at 20%-30% on my iphone 5. Do I qualify for it to be swapped?

I have an iphone 5 and I've been in before for the speaker because it doesn't sound as loud as before. Te volume down button takes effort to turn the volume down where as the volume up button is literally just a click. Also my phones been dying between 20%-30% sometimes higher. I have an appointment at 5pm today and I wanna ensure I get a properly phone working before my warranty is up (within the next two weeks) what should I do?

I said that cause I've gone in for two of the issues before and all they said was to do the whole restore backup stuff... Partial is hardware and from my understanding the either fix it or swap it out. I just wanna make sure I have a working phone before my warranty is up. Otherwise I'm going to have to pay a deductible for a new phone... So I guess what I'm trying to say is, is there anything I can say to benefit me?

  • How to get my lock button to stop turning volume down then locking, and my side volume button to stop locking my iPod?

Recently sent my iPod touch 4 generation into a local place for a battery change, and now it's suddenly swapped the lock button and lower side volume button. The lock button now turns the volume down then locks, and the volume button turns down and locks too. Anybody know how to stop this? It's annoying! Thanks for your help:)

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem take it back to where you got it fixed. They messed up.

  • I dropped my iPhone 6 plus and now the volume down button is lodged in. How do I fix this?

I haven't had for my iPhone 6 plus for long - almost a month. But I just noticed that the volume down button is lodged in and it is stuck which must have been from me dropping it. But it doesn't affect the volume whatsoever as I can still lower or increase the volume, I was wondering what can I do to fix this or if I bring it to apple will they fix it for me for free?

Since you have dropped the phone I don't think that they will do the repair for free, sorry.
But you should not try to repair this on your own, make an appointment at the Genius Bar at an Apple Store and see what they decide.

  • Iphone Turning Volume Down by Itself

So here is my issue. The iPhone will turn it's volume all the way down, by itself, leaving me unable to hear any alerts, phone calls, or alarm clocks. Whenever I use the side volume to turn it up, it will just automatically turn it all the way down. The strange part is that when I use the iPod it doesn't turn the volume down on that. Hence it is basically just turning down general volume (ringtones etc). I am thinking it might actually be a hardware issue. I will do a genius appointment but can anyone give me help/advice? Thanks!!

Hey, so yea i made some progress with the situation. So i discovered that the top left corner is near the module that controls volume. For example if you press down on it hard your volume will flutter. So if it goes crazy i just tap that a few times and it will usually be okay for a while. However, I figured out the main problem was that steam (condensation) was getting into my phone so now that I stopped having that happen it is much improved. I am debating getting a new iphone cuz it is also my alarm clock and in the middle of the night it will at times turn itself down so...but hey man thanks for responding I'm happy i'm not the only one having this problem. Keep me posted. Take care.

  • HT4528 My volume down button doesn't work on my iPhone 5

Just yesterday my volume down button stopped working. Did a reset on the phone and no fix. Any suggestions without having to go to the support desk?

    Hi Gogettem,
Depending on what 'reset' you have done there may be other options.
It will also depend on what you mean by stopped working.  If you mean that the button itself is stuck in then it is a hardware issue and needs replacement.  If you mean that it still pushes like normal but it won't change for you or won't give you any indication of changing then it's possible the below solution can work.
First make sure you backup your iPhone to either iCloud or iTunes.
Then use iTunes and while the iPhone is plugged in click on Restore iPhone from the summary page.  When the restore finishes, the important part is to restore as 'new' first and do NOT restore from backup.
When you restore as 'new' you should test it.  If it still does not work then you need a replacement.

  • Iphone 4 ringer volume keeps turning itself down

iphone 4 ringer volume keeps turning itself down?

    Hi cainstigator,
If you are having issues with your iPhone's volume setting not staying the way it should, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
Force an app to close in iOS
Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • IPhone 4S ring volume keeps turning itself down

The ring volume keeps turning itself down, I have been into the Settings and turned OFF the "Change with buttons"
and set the volume as high as it will go but after leaving the phone for an hour or so the volume is wound back to
minimum again. Siri is turned off.

Try this... You will Not Lose Any Data...
    Turn the Phone Off...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... (But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    Turn the Phone On...

Nothing YOU cand do.  You'll need to bring the phone to Apple for replacement.

  • My power button doesnt work. Ive seen someone who has reconfigured their buttons, so that if they press both volume keys phone turns off. Ive looked into this, and it seems to use a jailbroken app. Can I do this with a non jailbroken phone?

This person was able to choose which action, (shaking the phone, pressing both volume keys) turned the phone off/sent it to sleep instead. I have a 3gs.

Sounds like a very uncomfotable situation. This is, however,  user-to-user technical support forum. Your post is really outside of what's appropriate here. For an issue with the store, I would take it up with the manager directly or, if you don't get a hearing, ask for the name of the district manager. For Apple Care, you would also need to request to speak to a supervisor.
If all else fails, write a letter to corporate headquarters. See the Contact Us link at the lower right.
    Best of luck.

  • My ipod touch keeps turning the volume down by its self  and when i try to turn it back up it wont let me also when the sound is off the speaker that comes up when you turn it on down on the screen wont go it just stays there it doesn't go!Any ideas why?

It wont let me i dont know why so i cannot play music on my ipod which defeates the reason i got it.Also when it turns the volume down its self or i on the rare occasion that the volume works and i turn it down the speaker comes up and will not go.It stays there which is making my ipod difficult to use.Its been doing this for about a week now.I used it alot and i feel lost without it haha. Does anyone know why its doing this? Or a way i can fix it? I've cheaked for updates and there is none!
    Thankyouuu
it looks like that when it is locked and when its unlocked it looks like this

Have you checked the volume button? It might be physically stuck. To determine whether a hardware repair is needed, you need to follow these steps:
    1. Try doing a hard reset:
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
After that: test the device to see whether the issue is solved.
    2. If the issue is not solved, you should backup the device and restore it as new.
    In that case, use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup.
If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.
If you get specific error messages/codes in iTunes when updating/restoring, check this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694 for causes and solutions
    Good luck
