When I open the camera the camera screen is black

If this is arrising every few days, then I would say you have something more than a regular software glitch. The next step in user troubleshooting is a restore. First from a backup, then as a new device. I tend to believe this is an issue in iOS, I would try from a backup first. Make sure all of your data is backed up, synced to the computer you use and pictures are imported to the computer. That way if anything is lost in the process, it is on the computer for the restore. If doing it from the backup doesn't work, then restore as a new device. If the error still exists, then I recommend making an appointment at the Apple Store Genius bar ,as it would then seem to be a hardware issue.

I have to believe this has something to do with iOS 7 issues. I have taken my screen blacked out 5s twice to the Genius Bar and the found a bunch of system apps had crashed. So if this is the case, is iOS7 the problem?

My camera screen is black/blank and the touchscreen buttons on it are not responding or very temperamental. Screenshots work. I can only very occasionally view the camera roll through 'camera'. This has happened before when storage full but I always get a message too, this hasn't happened this time and the storage isn't full. Tried to use camera via Videostar which brings up a message 'in remote camera mode' and 'waiting to join multi-camera group' this may be usual for videostar? It's an app my daughter uses but I think it might be connected to the camera not being in use. When searching for remote camera mode I found apps that can be used to make iPhones into security cameras and wondered if it's possible that someone could have connected to my phone without my knowledge? If you see a closed lens or black screen when you open the Camera app, try these steps:
Make sure that there’s nothing blocking the camera lens. If you’re using a case, try removing it.

Restart your device, then open the Camera app again.
If your device has a front and rear camera, try both cameras by tapping (camera swap icon). If you see the closed lens or black screen on only one camera, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider for more help.

IPhone 4 iOS5 screen blacking out

Since installing iOS5 on my iPhone 4, my screen has been turning off at random times. The only thing which brings it back is locking the phone and pressing the lock button again. This has happened during games, web browsing and writing a text message. I have restored the phone and the issue still exists.

I am having the same issue on 5.1.1 (Snowbreeze jailbreak, BB 04.12.01) It has shut down 4 times, usually while using the camera. The screen goes black, or to multicolored stripes. It will only come back with a hard reset. Is this a software issue since others seem to be experiencing similar symptoms?

My iphone 5 camera went black and flashlight off also, anyone deal with the same problems?

Another stupid thing, there are so many apple authorized reseller here who offer applecare but again applecare doesn't work in my country. Apple hasn't put my country on the applecare service list. Not even my provider can help repairing my iphone 5 camera. So what's my guarantee thing for? really?
Since i got my iphone 5 for two months, the camera started indicate some problems. It starts with blinking screen, it turn pink and flickering then freeze. It was still on iOS 7, so i thought by updating will help solving the bugs problem. I have restore it too, nothing really works. Now my camera just a total pitchblack screen that i cant operate anymore and even my flashlight stop functioned too now...

My phone worked for a maximum of 5 minutes, before lsoing signal. Disabled LTE and it works perfectly. Spoke to some Samsung mates and they had the same problem.

I have a white iPhone 5 64gb. Everything works fine except when I try to use the camera I get a black screen. I have tried replacing the camera but it still has the same issue. I have tried using a different camera app but it crashes when I press the shutter button. What should I do?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).
However, as you've stated you've opened the device, all support from Apple and these forums has been voided. Good luck.

Iphone start up screen black and white stripes

My iPhone 4S powers up with a black and white striped screen then goes black. If I do a reset, it will eventually come back, work properly, and then go black again. When plugged into power, with screen set never to sleep, it works.

That's a sign of a hardware fault.

It sounds like the iPhone screen is not fully turning on or lighting up. I found this troubleshooting from the following article named:

Display has no backlight or dark screen
Toggle the ringer switch to see if the unit vibrates. If it does, it could be that iPhone is getting power, but is not displaying any image.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
While connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone.

Why is my iPod 5 rear camera screen black?

I cracked it a while ago, but both cameras (front and back) still worked.
And then I tried fixing it myself with a new screen, but i pressed too hard on the screen which messed it up, but both cameras still worked.
So then i took it some place to get it fixed, which i payed a lot for, and he fixed the screen but then when I tried to use the camera it was black.
My mom took it back and he said he wanted my password for it, but i wasn't there so i wasn't gonna just give it to him. He said he needed to look in the settings or whatever. But i wasn't there so i wasn't gonna hand out my password over phone. So i just took it back and looked at all the settings and nothing would change anything.
I tried restarting a couple times and i reset it. When i reboot it sometimes the front camera works but the back doesn't. Its either just black or it freezes.
I just updated to iOS 7.1.2 so maybe its a software glitch? And my flashlight doesn't work either.
If i can't get this figured I'm gonna be really mad because Apple products keep messing up so please help.
Im not paying anymore money trying to fix this after so many times. If there are any free camera apps just like the normal one could you please tell me. Im honestly just done with apple products. They all break after like 2 years.
P.S. I have no case on it so the case isn't blocking it or anything.

Try:

The phone does not do that on its own. You actually need an app for that. Try resetting the phone: press and hold the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the slider if you see it. The phone will power down and up again.

if the camera stays black when trying to use it in any application it is likely a hardware issue at that point because the aperture on the camera isn't opening. the only way to is that is by actually having the iPhone repaired through an apple store or through contacting apple support and going through a mail in repair.
if the iPhone is out of warranty though there would be a cost to have it repaired and it may end up being cheaper to take it to a third party to have them repair or replace just the camera.

Yesterday I updated my Iphone 5 with the new iOS 8.1.3
Unfortuntely now my camera shows only black. Also I am unable to switch from Picture mode to any other.
Front Camera works once every 10 attemps. Camera system is very unstable (Freezing Picture, slow,..)
Tried reset. Not successful.

Contacted Apple support 4x and asked for a call back. They wrote back that they cant rech me under my number.. Others can..

N97 camera screen goes and stays black after 10 mi...

Since a month im the owner of an N97. Cost a lot of money. From the start the camera-screen goes black within ten minutes after booting. And it stays black, so the camera functionality is completely gone. The primary and the secondary neither work. I did hard resets, firmware upgrades, soft resets and i brought it to a Nokia service center twice. The second time they returned it after 2 1/2 weeks (today) but the problem is still there. Now I just wished i bought an iPhone instead, and its driving me mad...What to do? Like I said, I already went to the Nokia service centre twice... and did all the firmware upgrades.

Almost the same here, with an N97, I found that I have to close the "so called" lens protector after the "processing image" disappear, and or close it when not processing anything, also I have to close it before it goes to stand by and that way the camera will work fine.
Also don't open and close and open the "lens protector".
In my case with a turn off and then on the camera comes to live again, is a pain, but not as bad as hard reseting all the time.
